I have decided Greek Chat need a new motto...
Breaking stereotypes, one PNM at a time

Anyone like it???

Enjoy the ride. We are all rooting for you!

Considering I'm blonde and was an engineering major for a bit, I got a VERY different impression from what she wrote (and not the positive kind).

:( I'm sorry if it sounded like I was expecting her to not be smart. I think we all stereotype to some degree. The woman I talked to knew this, and we talked about the crap that she got from people and how she dealt with it. Still, I'm sorry if I came off as judgemental.

See how things can be misread though LOL. I know another Engineer who could probably be considered blonde.(WW for Smrtblnde) She is definately smart. I'm a brunette and I bet there are way smarter blondes out there LOL
Have fun today though. It looks kinda dreary here in Pierce County. Hope it's better for you up there in Seattle. :-)

aabby757 09-13-2006 01:38 PM

this is a really fun thread!

I don't know if it's from a part of the country we don't hear much from in terms of recruitment, if it's because SuzieQ is being so great at her posts, if it's because the school has a large greek system with great sororities or a little bit of both but I'm having a blast with reading it.

Have a great time and continue to have success with your rushing.

And, btw, I didn't take any offense with the "very blonde" comment. I knew what you were talking about but I can see how it would rub some people the wrong way.

Anyway, CAN NOT wait until this is all over and you will tell us who is who. The best part bar none to all these rush threads.

Good luck!!

GtownGirl98 09-13-2006 02:44 PM

I agree with the best part being the reveal... it is kinda anti climatic to read the posts and then not know who is who... but I will leave it to each person to decide what they reveal.

Though at the same time I understand when a PNM doesn't want to reveal it...it's a diffcult choice

thetygerlily 09-13-2006 08:59 PM

Yay for a UW thread! I didn't go there, but I live close by. I have to root for the lilies, since that's my name :-) I can't wait to hear more- good luck & have fun!

Day 1 of House Tours!

Hey everyone! I got my schedule this morning!!! I was so happy to find out that I received a full schedule of ten houses! I felt really lucky since I have heard this is not very common. However, since the house I ranked bottom is on my list, I know I was invited to exactly 10 and know which 6 cut me. I will no longer be visiting the following houses:

Peony
Lavender
Lily
Daisy
Forget-Me-Not
Rose

I'm sooo happy with my schedule though, getting invites to half of my favorites. Today I visited five houses that I had ranked high on my list. Therefore, it isn't surprising that I had a good time at each of them.

I started out in the Violet house. Maybe it was because it was the first party of the day but it didn't go as smoothly as the others went and I won't be too surprised if I'm cut. However, I would be happy to go back and meet more people to get a better feel for it. Their house was AMAZING. Wow. All of the houses are beautiful, though.

Then I went back to the Orchid house. The conversation was easier here. I feel like it's hard to say distinctive things for some of the houses. It just felt comfortable, and they live in a big beautiful house.

Next I went to the Carnation house. I liked their house pretty well. A lot of people sleep in sleeping porches which I don't think is a bad thing. And it was nice talking to a senior who was pre-med.

Then I got to go back to the Sunflower house, which was a favorite. It still is. The women I talked to yesterday came back and said hi, and I got to know other women. They just seem like really smart, active women who are easy to get along with.

Lastly, I went to the Iris house. I really love this house too. Once again, the people I talked to before came back to say hi. And I could actually remember their names without looking at the nametags! It was the same way at the Sunflower house. I feel really good about this house.

I would like invites from any of these chapters, but my two favorites are Sunflower and Iris. :) Tomorrow I get to go back to what was my #1 yesterday, the Holly house. The other four I see tomorrow I ranked as my bottom four but I am glad I get to have another chance to check them out (I've read enough threads to know that people can change their minds a lot!)

Oh, and if you haven't already be sure to check out the chapter directory I'm not kidding when I say that every house is big and beautiful. :)

BadSquirrelBeta 09-13-2006 09:54 PM

Go! Go! Go! And good deal on getting a full schedule! Was it/is it cold up there? It was dreary and cool all day down here (South sound)...no wonder I am soooo tired. Do you have big football plans for the weekend?

It was freezing! It didn't rain but it was in the low 60s. I had planned on wearing a skirt, then capris, and ended up wearing pants!

I bought the Dawg Pack, so I have tickets to all of the home football games... but Preference makes it so everyone has to miss the Saturday game! I still need to find someone to buy my ticket.

BadSquirrelBeta 09-13-2006 10:06 PM

I am sure you are more than willing to trade Pref. for one football game! Just think, if all goes the way we are hoping for it to go for you, you will be attending the next one with your sisters!! Keep us informed. Pack your parka, thermal underwear and umbrella for Pref. if this weather keeps up!!

Buttonz 09-13-2006 10:13 PM

I'm glad you had a full schedule and lots of fun, I hope you have as much ufn tomrrow :)

Guess you'll have to root for Iris since Lily is out of the running! ;)

aabby757 09-13-2006 11:14 PM

I realize that some sororities don't name their chapters in order of the greek alphabet but I realize that many of the do. I am very very impressed at the amount of UW sororities with one letter chapter names (kappa; epsilon etc) which in my mind means they have been on campus for many many years and that it was one of the sororities first chapters installed. I know that may be an incorrect assumption on my part but I'm still impressed by that.

And realizing by the pictures I have seen on the greek web site that washington state is absolutely gorgeous.

DGMarie 09-13-2006 11:36 PM

Some sororities start a new greek alphabet chapter for each state, so they may have 4 Alpha chapters. I'm sure someone can say which do which. Delta Gamma doesn't do it this way; each chapter goes in order regardless of location.

f8nacn 09-13-2006 11:37 PM

Nice chapter houses at UW...

Jill1228 09-14-2006 12:50 AM

I gotta say it:
the photos of the houses do NOT do them justice. I drove through Greek Row a couple of months ago and they are really gorgeous

PeppyGPhiB 09-14-2006 01:20 AM

Yes, many of the UW chapters are some of the oldest in their organizations. I know our chapter there was established in I think 1903 or 1905.

What impresses me about UW's Greek houses is that not only the sororities have beautiful homes - most of the fraternities do, too! On a lot of campuses in the West, the sororities are nice but the fraternities leave a lot to be desired.

suzieQ 09-14-2006 11:06 PM

Day 2 of House Tours!

Today wasn't as fun as yesterday because at this point I was exhausted... but it was still fun. :) Last night I had to write a paper and study and this morning was my last class of Early Fall Start!!! Yay! I get to sleep in now. :)

I started out visiting the Daffodil house. I'm not sure about this house. I liked the two people who gave me the tour okay. The house is beautiful. I just don't think this is the house for me. I would not mind going back tomorrow, however, just to make sure.

Next I went to the Tulip house. The girls here are really really sweet. The physical house is soooo cool. One of my favorites. I could really see myself hanging out at this house. It's not one of my favorites but I still like this house. I got to talk to someone I talked to yesterday. She is someone I could see myself hanging out with, but I'm not sure about how good of friends we could be. The girls are almost too sweet. I can't explain it. I just don't click as well here as some of the others.

Next I went to the Lilac house! I am sooo glad I got to go back here, even though I didn't originally rank them in my top ten. Last time I was really turned off because I wasn't one-on-one with the women. Today I had a great time.

Next I went to the Holly house. This was one of my absolute favorites from the open houses. It is a favorite of a lot of people, though, and I am afraid I am going to get cut. :( It's sad, but you can really tell how selective the houses are by who is invited back. I feel like most of the girls that got invited back were prettier than me. I have really loved the girls I have met in this house though... I just hope they feel the same way!

Finally I went to the Primrose house. I got to meet actual women from the sorority this time! Unfortunately, I still don't feel like I fit in here. I don't click with the girls and it's just not what I'm looking for. It's a little too small for my liking. I know that this can mean that the girls are closer, but many of the girls live in their annex and it just doesn't sound like an appealing set-up. The main reason that I don't want to go back, however, is that I couldn't see myself being sisters with the girls. They aren't mean or rude or anything... I just don't feel like I fit in.

Today we ranked our top 6 as #1, then the 7th as #2, the 8th as #3, etc. I ranked the chapters in the following way:

#1

Holly
Sunflower
Iris
Violet
Lilac
Orchid

#2 Carnation
#3 Tulip
#4 Daffodil
#5 Primrose

My goal again is to get a full schedule! However, it would be nice to go back to six of my top 8.

I'm really nervous. I'm afraid I will only get invited back to a few. I don't know why I suddenly feel like this. I wasn't this scared for the first invites! I guess I have just talked to people and know which houses are considered "top houses"... some of these are my favorites and I am worried they will cut me severely.

_Lisa_ 09-14-2006 11:09 PM

Good luck Miss SuzieQ. I'm anxious for your next update! :D

Hi suzieq
Just wanted you to know that you're pseudo-names have been decode by some of the houses. Please be careful in your future posts

So what if they've been decoded?

Let her be honest and leave her alone.

I get the feeling that the above post was left just to start shit in what was otherwise a great rush thread.

Ditto. So what if someone has "supposedly" figured it out?

The best rush thread ever posted on greekchat used real names the entire time:
CurlyGirly's UF Rush.

"Not clicking" with a house is a typical feeling we've all had when rushing. So what? Besides, if she's invited back to the "not clicking" houses, she might get a totally different opinion & actually CLICK!

suzieQ, thanks for continuing to post your story!! Keep up the great work!! :)

Buttonz 09-15-2006 01:28 AM

Sounds like you had a good time. Nerves are normal, but hopefully when you get your next set of invites everything will go your way and you'll calm down.

Good luck :)

FSUZeta 09-15-2006 06:59 AM

suzie has said nothing that should offend any sorority-keep going suzieq and keep posting. don't worry about psuedo-elle wood. good luck getting all your faves on your invitation list today!!

Point? There's a rush thread at my undergrad this semester, and I know who everyone is...and??

The houses should thank her for the feedback.

GtownGirl98 09-15-2006 10:37 AM

Why are some people hurt by other peoples feelings? Why can we not understand that pnms aren't writing these posts to hurt the groups feelings but to share their experience with us? And that we should take the information that they post and use it to our advantage... fix what is going wrong. The threads that are full of fluff are the ones that I don't click with... but that is my personal opinion. As a sorority member who knows that one of those chapters that she isn't clicking could be mine... I like her thread anyway...

SuzieQ... click on!

adpiucf 09-15-2006 11:19 AM

Have fun and continue to keep an open mind.

To "ElleWoods"-- if you can decode which sorority house has members that mostly live in a certain section, good for you. Here's a cookie.

KSUViolet06 09-15-2006 11:23 AM

Honestly, I've seen rush threads at my school where the PNM didn't like my chapter. I was active and could've easily had her cut from my chapter and probably a few others based on what she said, since she was easily identified by what she posted. But I didn't. Why? Because I didn't care that much.

adpiucf 09-15-2006 11:28 AM

Even if you did, that's still ok, too. The PNM has managed to advertise who she is and that she doesn't like your chapter, so if you did care enough you could take this information into consideration with your next round of invites. More and more sororities are using the internet as a recruitment tool. I am very surprised at the way some PNMs portray themselves on MySpace, GC, etc.

In this case, however, I don't see where SQ has revealed any personal info that tells us who she is.

I know we all like the daily playback of a recruitment thread, but I think for a lot of PNM's they'd be better off not posting their story until after recruitment.

suzieQ 09-15-2006 02:59 PM

Sorry to dissappoint everyone, but I am withdrawing from recruitment.

After originally getting invited back to 10 of the 16, my R.C. called me and told me that this round I was only invited back to one.

:( I'm already dressed up and I look really cute.

Here are the code names decoded.

Violet Alpha Chi Omega
Tulip Alpha Delta Pi
Sunflower Alpha Gamma Delta
Rose Alpha Phi
Primrose Alpha Xi Delta
Peony Chi Omega
Orchid Delta Delta Delta
Lily Delta Gamma
Lilac Delta Zeta
Iris Kappa Alpha Theta
Holly Kappa Delta
Forget-Me-Not Kappa Kappa Gamma
Lavender Gamma Phi Beta
Daisy Pi Beta Phi
Daffodil Sigma Kappa
Carnation Zeta Tau Alpha

Luckily, I have a great group of friends in my dorm to help me get through this.

Suzie, I am so very sorry to hear you dropping out.

I wish you the best of luck with everything.

I'm sorry things didn't work out for you. I hope you will consider COB. I don't know how many chapters usually do this at your school, but so many wonderful ladies from GC have found their homes this way. You've had such a positive attitude and I really commend that. Best of luck to you in the future. Keep us posted!

WOW! I just looked at the site for her campus. KD is the youngest group there and it was founded locally in 1922! That's an extremely established panhellenic group!
