So does anyone know for a fact that what happened in the movie "United 93" actually happened?

The only truth they will know is the phone calls. Was the black box recovered? If so, shouldn't it have the conversation of the pilot and co-pilot.

Everything else is just going to be dramaticized based on what the directors, well people in general, think would have happened.

The black box was recovered and the families were allowed to listen to the tapes. They speculated details based on what was heard on the tapes of the black box. They heard the hijackers, they heard the refreshment cart ramming into the door of the cockpit and lots of shouting, both in Arabic and English. Between the cell phone calls made and those tapes, they have been able to piece it together pretty thoroughly.

From what I have seen reported on the news and read in the magazines (Time, Newsweek, etc. The producers were very careful about making it as realistic as possible. Granted there is the cockpit tape (that I understood would NOT be released to the public, even though it was heard in the Massoui trial) to use for the movie. But apparently many of the actors are actual pilots and flight attendents for actual airlines. Also, the director had sequestered the "terrorists" in a separate hotel, and anywhere else needed from the actors portraying the passengers, pilots, etc. Those actors did not see the faces or talk to the actors playing the "terrorists" until the scene where the plane is taken over was filmed.

I saw it. Very moving. Reminded me of a few things that I had forgotten about on that day but it also took me back to that day.

I saw it this past weekend. I wasn't very moved, I thought they could have done a much better job. The end was better than the first hour and half, but by then I was kind of tired of watching it. Also, the camera was so jumpy it was hard to pay attention.

Not necessarily so. Commercial aircraft already fly with armored flight deck access doors, and many pilots are armed. There are other ways now to thwart a 'squawk 7500' situation (hijacking), but those details (what few I do know) I'm not at liberty to discuss on an open forum.

It's gonna be very difficult these days for terrorists to re-create a takeover of aircraft like that of 9/11, but if you get a REALLY determined group of terrorists, it could happen again. They'll find a vulnerability in aircraft security and exploit it, just like the 9/11 hijackers did.

Wow!


I found the movie quite intense. I was bawling through many parts of it. I was also internally "yelling" at airport security, air traffic control, the military and the president.

I could hear people crying throughout the whole movie.

When the movie ended, there was silence. Not a single person spoke as they were getting up to leave the theater. People just wiped their tears and walked out.


It was eerie.




I will admit, it's a tough movie to watch. It was an amazing movie, but I'm not sure I can watch it again. But here's the irony, I'll end up buying it because I'm a history teacher. Go figure.
