I'm envious of you that you are going around Ireland in May!!!! We hope to go there in a couple of years so let me know everything you do, what your recommendations are etc etc :)

I will definitely fill you in on Ireland. It's just too bad that it's so far off! I'm going to spend most of my time on the western coast mapping the countryside and such (Shannon/Galway area), but afterward I'm going to travel to Dublin (and beyond!). I have a friend that lives there, and it would be silly not to visit.

TwinStars09: I'm super excited for you! Fellow 2007 Ritualist! This is the one job that I couldn't end my time as a collegiate (sp?) member without holding. I hold our ritual so dear to me, and I like passing that on to our newest members and our actives alike.

ThetaPrincess, Congrats on passing your exam!:)
LoggerTheta and TwinStars09: Congrats on becoming Ritualists for your respective chapters!:)

I'm happy that I'm about halfway done with my Christmas shopping, and hope to finish the rest of it up today. Then I just need to get it shipped back home since I'm flying home for the holidays.

I'm estactic because I did get the promotion that I was up for at work so I will be moving closer to my family in a little over a month or so. My company is relocating me to Omaha. Lucky for me, one of my Theta sisters from college lives there and she's already helping me out with looking for a place to live.

Sadly as a result I'm no longer going to be advising the chapter that I currently advise, which makes me sad because I've really enjoyed working with the women of the chapter.

ThetaPrincess24 12-10-2006 01:21 PM

Congrats on your new position!!! My best friend lives in Omaha. She just graduated medical school from Creighton.

My Christmas shopping is finally done! So is my decorating foolness for the year. I think i bought a little too much this year but that's okay :) Our bathroom is even decorated :) I'm excited too because the Pampered Chef stuff that I ordered should be here next week :)

My challenge this weekend has been studying for my Tuesday final and helping my daughter come up with an idea for her science project (boo!).

ThetaPrincess24 12-18-2006 03:04 PM

7 days left until Christmas!!!!!! Who's not ready? :) My shopping and decorating are done, but I keep finding little trinkets that I want to buy people!

My final went well last week. Now I'm having trouble unwinding and feel like I should still be studying something. My husband will be gone for three weeks next month :( One of the weeks he'll either be in England or the Czech Republic. We dont know yet. He's going to be gone in February and in March too. I dont like all of the traveling but once again i keep telling myself frequent flyer miles! Marriot Hotel Points! Hilton Hotel Points! My daughter's fish died last week as well so when the kids come back on Wednesday we are going out to buy another one. I dont think my daughter really cares, but my husband says he misses the fish.

My husband bought my 9 year old step son a drum set for Christmas. I dont think this was such a hot idea.......but oh well. I've stocked up on Excedrine Migraine so maybe I'll be okay.

Last night I cooked a formal dinner for my husband as an excuse to use the new china place settings that we got. It went quite well! I made a city slicker salad (spinach, strawberries, almonds, and poopy seed dressing), oregano chicken, and herb seasoned vegetables, with whole wheat rolls and riesling. He ate it all and kept saying how tasty it was and how I did a good job with the presentation. So I felt good. :)

Hope everone is doing well and has a Merry Christmas!

bluefish81 12-18-2006 10:23 PM

With the exceptions of two presents that I need to buy when I land in Iowa - one being coffee beans - I'm done shopping. Plus, all my gifts are shipped and most of them are wrapped too.

I feel like I'm being pulled in a million different directions with trying to get relocation details done along with holiday things. My goal next year is to not be moving anytime close to the holidays. It's very frustrating and while my move date isn't until next month sometime there's just so many loose ends to tie up.

Good Luck with the drum set ThetaPrincess! I always wanted one of those when I was a kid, so I'm jealous of you step-son.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!

blackngoldengrl 12-19-2006 05:59 PM

TP24, that dinner sounds delicious! Right now I'm in the dregs of studying for yet another exam (of course)! Tomorrow it'll be psychiatry-disorders, drugs, treatment. It's actually been really interesting, so maybe 3rd year I'll like my rotation.
Needless to say, I have not purchased one Christmas gift. :( Ah well, tomrrow afternoon will be fun then...

Happy Holidays!

reverie 12-22-2006 01:37 AM

I haven't been here in forever...I studied abroad in Cameroon in the spring so needless to say there wasn't a lot of internet time for me although I suppose I don't have much of an excuse now.

I am enjoying senior year craziness though and I promise I will be better!!

Christmas is so exciting. Although I finished my Christmas cards, I have yet to mail some of them. Whoops.

Study abroad sound so cool! I've never heard of anyone doing one in Cameroon though. I'd like to hear more about what you studied there and how it was!

ThetaDancer 12-22-2006 02:54 PM

Just caught up on everyone's updates...sounds like you have all been busy!

I've been spending most of my free time doing last minute Christmas things...sending the last of my cards, baking, shopping and wrapping. I'm spending the next three days with my family, which I am really looking forward to.

Merry Christmas everyone!

blackngoldengrl 01-11-2007 12:32 AM

My Big is engaged! She called me earlier today, but I had to hear it over the voicemail as I was too busy to get to my phone. BUT! She has been seeing her fiancee for almost 4 years now. She's a first year in medical school and he has a degree in law. We never did candlelighting or anything at my chapter, so I can't sing any songs, but I was happy to know I could share it with you all!

Happy New Year!

LoggerTheta 01-19-2007 07:41 PM

WooHooo! Who's pumped? I AM! Because Spring Formal Rcruitment 2007 at the University of Puget Sound starts THIS EVENING! *does a happy dance*

Awww good luck!!

LoggerTheta 01-21-2007 09:09 PM

Preference is tomorrow night, so we're getting close. I'm so excited! Updates to come.

ThetaPrincess24 01-25-2007 08:15 PM

So how did your recruitment go? :)

LoggerTheta 01-25-2007 09:05 PM

So it was kind of an odd year for the Greek system at my school, and there was a really small number of girls who went through (about 80!!!) Kappa Alpha Theta got 7 fantastic new women. I really can't tell you all how great these new ladies are. They're pretty much the cream of the crop! Pledging is tonight. It's my first ceremony as Ritulaist, so I'm super excited!!! We're also going to be holding a few COB events in the next week or so I think, so we may pick up a few more!!! Yay!

blackngoldengrl 01-26-2007 01:39 AM

Congrats, and welcome to the new members!

ThetaPrincess24 01-26-2007 03:43 PM

I'm so excited to have 7 new sisters! I remember my pledge ceremony.......I remember thinking how awesome that was. it also got me more excited about initiation too (and rightly so because initiation is much more awesome!).

blackngoldengrl 01-26-2007 10:05 PM

I definitly should be studying, BUT there is an excellent PBS special on, "slavery and the making of america," AND I just got my copy of "bound by a mighty vow." Both reflect my history, so I couldn't be any happier to push off pulmonary medicine...for now!

Monday I will be helping out with "rush" at Hopkins in my first experience as an alumna. I'm very excited! And coming up, a B'more alumnae tea at an historic hotel here in the city.

Have a good weekend everyone!

blackngoldengrl 03-26-2007 05:27 PM

Hi all!

It's been awhile, I've been busy and on vacation! We just had Spring Break and I was in St. Maarten and Puerto Rico. I must say I reaaaally enjoyed St. Maarten. The trip was cut short b/c of bad weather here in B'more, but it was beautiful there. I'll post a pic if I can figure out how.

Hope all is well with everyone else!

P.S. I didn't end up helping out with Hopkins Rush (they didn't end up needing me) but the Tea was delicious! I booked for Mother's day in May.

ThetaSis2GPhiB 03-29-2007 03:26 AM

Hi blackngoldengrl! I must say I am jealous of your tropical vacation. Sounds lovely...

I don't have any travel plans for the spring break season, but I will be traveling a lot soon for work so I'll get my fill of airplanes, baggage claim, and rental cars. It will get tiring, but I truly am excited for a week-long conference in NYC in late May...should be fun in the Big Apple.

Sooner than that, I can't wait for this weekend. My oldest sister (I'm the youngest of 6 girls) is flying out from Georgia with her 2 sons. My parents also live in San Diego and Sunday is our Mom's 73rd birthday. This sister is who I reference in my GreekChat screenname: ThetaSis2GPhiB. She is GPhiBLtColonel and posts on a semi-regular basis. We're the bookend twins in our family. We have a set of idential twin sisters, so I guess the rest of us feel the need to pair up. My oldest sister is the only one in my immediate family to join a sorority. So I guess I followed in her footsteps.

Happy Springtime everyone and early wishes for a Happy, Blessed Easter!

ThetaDancer 03-29-2007 05:59 PM

Blackngoldengrl- Your vacation sounds so nice! I'm jealous of the nice weather there.
Thetasis2GPhiB- I always love NYC! I hope you also have a wonderful time with your family.

I also have some traveling coming up. My younger (biological) sister is spending this semester abroad, studying in Vienna. Next week I'm headed to Austria to visit her! We're also going to be spending some time in Prague. I'm really excited to travel and to see my sister...it has been a while!

Other than that, I've just been keeping busy with work and looking forward to the nice weather that spring and summer bring.

I also want to pass on early wishes to everyone for a Happy, Blessed Easter. Hope all is well!

That should be an amazing trip! I have heard great things about Prague from friends who've been there. Enjoy your vacation and travel safe!

What is everyone else up to?

TwinStars09 04-17-2007 03:08 PM

Hey Thetas!

We initiated eight beautiful women into our chapter on Friday, the 13th! Pretty much the the best news I've got :)

ThetaDancer 05-02-2007 10:58 AM

Hey Thetas!
I haven't posted in a while so I just wanted to take a minute to update everyone. I've had a lot going on lately!
In the beginning of April, I spent almost two weeks visiting my (biological) sister, who is studying abroad in Austria. We had a really wonderful time. I was also able to spend time in Prague, which is an amazing city. It was nice to see my sister, see part of the world, and get a break from work. :)
I also recently found out that I have been accepted into the graduate program of my choice. Next fall, I will be attending the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee! I couldn't be more excited.
I hope things are going well with all of you and I can't wait to read some of your updates.

MissLadyMoTheta 05-10-2007 08:51 PM

Hey gang!
I chaired my very first meeting as ABC for Thetas. I was terribly nervous but excited because after losing a majority of our board this year, I have three new advisors to help out!!
Our main goals now are to really make an impact with informal recruitment (major opportunity for us) and bring back traditions and adopt new ones Any ideas???

undtheta2000 05-10-2007 11:26 PM

Greetings!

Hello Theta sisters! Just wanted to take a minute to give an update. I'm 9.5 days away from the end of my first year of teaching Special Education at the elementary school level. I've been working on a Masters in special ed and part of the program I'm doing (Resident Teaching) is to teach in the school setting, basically as a paid internship-type position. At the end of finals week and have one last assignment to submit via email.
Teaching is great- love it despite the tough times, behaviors, and paperwork. Tons of stress!!! Next year I'll be switching gears and moving to the preschool level with a Preschool Special Needs Program in the mornings. I'll be working with Infant Development as well in afternoons next spring. Very excited!
Summer class beginning after Memorial Day.
That's my life in a nutshell! :)

Congratulations on the ABC role. It carries a lot of responsibility, but you get a great chance to give back so much to the college chapter women.

In regards to traditions, I would start with ritual. Also talk with the chapter members about what they would like to leave as their 'mark' on the chapter. Do they want it to be an annual lunch with local alumnae? Maybe you start or re-start doing a Senior Service?

I wish you the best of luck and send Theta Thoughts your way!

blackngoldengrl 06-22-2007 07:24 PM

I just finished step 1 of the medical licensing exam. (please excuse spelling, it has been a long day) And i must say, it was ROUGH! i hope summer is going well for all of you. I'm beginning the full week of vacation I get before i start rotations...happy summer!

CONGRATS thetaprincess! What wonderful news to hear!

Smile awhile as only Thetas do
while twin stars are shining over you.
Theta hearts you know are true,
glow with love for only you.

Theta lips are smiling through the years,
poised to laugh and kiss away the tears.
Give your heart to one that's true,
to your Theta girl.

Whew! Here's the news: I'm finally done in Ireland. For the past 6 weeks I've been out in the field hiking through peat bogs and climbing mountains 7 hours a day studying geology in Western Ireland. Now I'm done, and I feel great about it. I'm in England now, and in about a week I'll be in Iceland. After that I come back to the states, and continue doing field work for my Senior Thesis project. I hope all my Theta sisters are staying busy (but happy!) too.

bluefish81 07-06-2007 12:38 AM

I haven't posted in this thread since before I moved from Michigan to Omaha and that was at the end of January! Things in Nebraska are going well, loving the new job I'm in, definitely glad that my company gave me the opportunity. I like not being couped up in a an office building all day and I think this is a great job to be doing at this point in my life.
It's nice to only be a few hours away from a bunch of my friends and family instead of eight hours.
Things were so crazed the first few months that I didn't get involved in the local alumnae chapter and I've recently contacted the president. I'm looking forward to attending those meetings this fall.
I'm not having that exciting of a summer however - I decided to turn the one day that I was supposed to have off for the 4th into a five day weekend for some much needed R&R. Tomorrow I think I'm going to take my four year old nephew to the zoo or the science center. I've gone on a few weekend trips, but mainly to either Des Moines to visit friends or KC to visit friends.

Hope everyone else is having a great summer! :)

blackngoldengrl 07-20-2007 06:43 PM

Congrats Thetaprincess!

As I last reported, I finished the first step of licensure to practice medicine. Today I got my scores, and I PASSED!!! Woo hoo!

On the other hand, my vacation didn't go so well, since my kitty of 17 years was dying, and finally passed away on June 30th. I miss her, but I'm glad she isn't suffering.

I don't want to leave this update on a sad note, so I will say that I'll be meeting up with the alumnae group on Tuesday for dinner. I haven't seen them in a while, and it will be a nice way to cap off the day.

Time to celebrate! Have a great weekend, sisters!:)

Congrats blackngoldengrl on passing scores! What a relief to get news like that. My sister (biological & also a Theta) just took the Bar exam last week after graduating from Law School this spring. Fingers crossed that she passes- scores back in about 6 weeks?

I am excited as tomorrow I'll be meeting a friend from my chapter for supper. She's a couple years older than I am, so I haven't seen her in at least two years, probably 3. Since then, she is married, living in a different city (only about an hour from where I live & we went to school) & I just found out is expecting a baby this spring.

My summer classes are finished & only about 3 weeks until my (taking) classes start, and less than 4 weeks until (teaching) school starts. Where did the summer go?!

ThetaDancer 09-27-2007 10:24 AM

Just wanted to check in with everyone!
I started grad school in the beginning of September. So far, so good...although it is a ton of work. I'm slowly finding my balance though and getting into new routines.
I'm also keeping busy with work and Junior League, and I'm in a friend's wedding in a couple of weeks so I've been trying to help her get things ready as much as I can. Busy busy busy!
How is everyone else???

ThetaPrincess24 10-18-2007 05:27 PM

Hello Thetas! I'm long overdue for doing one of these so here goes:

I'm currently working 5 days a week at a family practice. All of the health providers are nurse practitioners and most of our patients are on medicaid (state funded and is not to be confused with medicare). Since i cant say anything nice about my patients with the exception of the children, medicare, and private insurance patients( though some of these tick me off too), I'll stop here.

Recently I became a The Body Shop At Home consultant. I'm so excited about my new business. I figured since I've been using the products since 1993 I ought to be able to sell them well :) I really like the company philosophies as well and what they support which helps my enthusiasm to sell:) I dont even have my starter kit yet and I've already made a sale, and potentially already recruited someone to be a consultant. I'm planning an open house/business launch party in two weeks and planning a GIrls Night Out party for my daughter as a mother/daughter type of thing. my website should launch soon as well.

My oldest step son is still running cross country and is excelling in his honors classes. He's still hell bent on going to medical school though he's unsure of what kind of doctor he wants to be which is fine. He's only a high school sophomore and has plenty of time to decide. He also just turned 16 and cant wait to get his license and a car of some sort in February (Kentucky has a 6 month driver's permit period before being able to get your license). My step daughter was chosen to be in the gifted program at her school (she started middle school this year) and she too is also doing well. She's taking a break from sports this fall but is still keeping up with the violin, her school's math team, and will be joining me in my Yoga class next week. My youngest step son has found his sport in football. This is the first year he's played football but is already quite good and plays running back. He is also playing violin.

My husband just got a promotion at work and then his division was bought out by AT&T. His job is safe and he still loves his job however this could mean a possible move to the Atlanta area after the first of the year. I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand Atlanta has more opportunities for me as far as nursing jobs, socially (Theta, BSP, Junior league, alumnae panhellenic, etc), and excellent shopping, but on the other hand the traffic........I HATE ATLANTA AREA TRAFFIC!!!!!! traffic makes me tense and nervous. I can barely handle the traffic here which is zilch compared to atlanta, but anyways we'll see what happens there.

Other than that I'm trying to get more involved in my xmas shopping, taking pilates and yoga three times a week, and am currently reading three books (one about buddism, history/science behind the bible, and leonardo da vinci).

HOpe all is going well with everyone! :)

blackngoldengrl 11-04-2007 09:28 PM

I met our Grand Council President last night for the first time at our chapter's 25th anniversary celebration. She is pretty funny in addition to being very friendly. The celebration was great and I'm hoping to see another 25!

Thetagirl218 12-15-2007 05:23 PM

Hello Ladies,

I haven't posted in quite some time, but I am now! This was my last semester and I was busy finishing my BAE in Secondary Education! I am now graduated, and both excited and nervous about being an Alumna!!! Just an update on me!!!!

As for black and golden girl's post, the Grand Council President is very nice! I have met her on two occasions as I was a founder of my chapter, and she was always very sweet!

ThetaDancer 02-18-2008 03:54 PM

Hello Theta Sisters!

I just wanted to bump this thread in hopes of hearing updates on how everyone is doing.

I don't have much news to report. Grad school is keeping me super busy. I'm finding time to volunteer and be active in Junior League when I can. And, I'm just desperate to get out of this Wisconsin weather. It has been the worst winter I can ever remember and I'm so ready for it to be spring!

How is everyone else doing?

LoggerTheta 02-18-2008 04:10 PM

Well, I don't have a lot to report, but I'm in my last semester as an undergrad, so that's really exciting. I'm in the writing stages of my Thesis paper, and it's been a long time coming (almost a whole year now), and this is really exciting because in March (during my spring break) I get to go to the Cordilleran/Rocky Mountain GSA (Geologic Society of America) conference in Las Vegas to give a poster presentation about it. Just the fact that I'm an expert on a catastrophic mudflow that took place in the Puget Lowland about 16,950 years ago, makes me giddy beyond all reason.

In other news, going along the lines of what ThetaDancer said, today is the first monday here in the Seattle area that's sunny and warm enough (read... JUST warm enough) to wear a skirt for chapter!
