Congrats to Texas, tho obviously, this SC alum is disappointed. But gotta say it, I'd rather lose by 3 in Nat'l Championship than lose to Notre Dame or UCLA in reg season. lol

RE: Young knee down forward lateral. Yes the logical thing would have been for SC to call a time out. Except Pete Carroll is not a fan of replay in college ball, so no SC fan knowing that expected him to call a time out for that. And yes, UT probably would have scored on the next play or two anyway. And SC screwed up on a number of occasions. It was a great game but as much as it pains me to say it, Texas deserved to win.

RE: Leinart's comment. I agree it was uncool, but give the guy a break. He's just lost his first game in over 2 years, only the second loss in his collegiate career as a starter. Its not like he has any experience with handling that type of emotion. And upon further thought, I think he probably meant HE still feels USC is the best team, more of an I love my team statement than a put down of UT. (At least that is how I choose to keep my Matty love alive. lol)

AznSAE 01-05-2006 02:28 PM

you would think usc fans to have a much bigger showing since the game is practically in their own back yard and a national chapionship on the line.

Ticketmaster got 1,000 tickets for sale to the general public at $175 face value.

Most tix I saw were 800-1000 for endzone, 2000-3000 for anywhere else. So I chose not to go. lol

Unfortunately, as much as I wish that were true, it isn't. I live in Lubbock & went to law school at Tech, and I can't tell you how many Texas Tech fans I heard say "I HATE UT, and I hope USC destroys them. I don't even care if they are from Texas."

Seriously, what's up with that? Why are they so bitter? Even my Aggie friends were respectful of the season the 'Horns have had!

I think Texas Tech should lose their Texas citizenship. Maybe New Mexico will take them.

My brother e-mailed me from his blackberry during the game a few times...one was an "oh well" and the other was "what the hell?" I can't imagine how much fun that game was to watch live...it made me kind of nauseous on tv!

HOOK 'EM!!!

BobbyTheDon 01-05-2006 02:48 PM

Dude believe me. I was at the game. My face value was worth 300 bux. I didn't pay for em. My friends are ballers and wipe their ass with benjamins. There were SOOOOOO many Texas fans outside CRYING, like bawling because they couldn't get tickets. Hundreds...thousands. On the same token, there were ALOT of SC fans saying selling their tickets to TExas fans because they figure, "ok dumbass, pay 5 times as much".

THis is how a conversation could have went down.

UT: Hey yall! I'm from TExas! I'll need Tickets!
SC: How much you got
UT: I brought 2 grand sir
SC: Throw in your daughter and we got a deal
UT: Older or younger?
SC: Older you idiot. And throw in your cowboy hat.
UT: Ok sir

The Texas fans next to me got their tickets for 800 bux. Pretty good deal now that I think about it

And PS. I'm sorry but I watched those replays of the game from last night. BetaRulz, sorry man. but that WAS a fumble. He caught the ball had posession and immediatly WHACK.

Next Vince Youngs knee WAS DOWN! Holey shit. And it's not like Texas hurried their ass off to get the next play in. They took just the same amount as time as they normally did .Why the hell didn't the replay guys replay that crap? And PETE CARROLL should have used a TIMEOUT to call a replay!?!?!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?! Why should HE have to call a timeout? It's the replay peoples freakin JOBS to get their shit right. But no. they didn't. SCREW THAT. I knew they got freakin jipped. I knew it.

And Lifesaver, that whole Temple Owls 2005 thing is weak. Yeah Temple probably wuold have beaten those guys from OKlahoma back then, but you know damn well the reason why they never were brought up is because they were what 0-11 ? Tell that jackass he's not funny and I will take a #2 on his chest.

God I can only say, someone please clone Vince Young, someone teach him how to throw the football correctly so I can watch him as a QB in the NFL, and hell...Reggie played some QB in HS....make the switch Reggie!

Yeah. I would NEVER....EVER!!!!!!!!! Pay for something that much. Ok maybe if my name was Fletcher Jones the III. Spoiled motherf'er. It was fun, and my friend could have made atleast a 10 grand if he sold all of our tickets

exactly. There were some really questionable moves by SC. I don't wanna sound like a dick, but it seemed as if SC was saying " here Texas, we've won before here you go"

It was really uncharacteristic. In the stands we were like, wtf are you doing? Give the rock to Lendale! You're scoring TOO Fast! AH!!!!! Keep VINCE off the field!

Hey, Texas was the shit last night and took advantage of SC's mistakes. When someone gives you a lemon make some lemonade right?

Yeah well Texas got some "Country Time" and pour some liquor in it.

Congrats Texas

The worse part of last night was making the LONG drive home from Pasadena to Huntington and getting a phone call from my cousins from...yeah, UT.

I swear how can I have cousins with accents like that? I wanted to strangle them through the phone.

" Hey bawwwwwb! It's ya cuzzzin Tuan! Ya Californyuh boyz lost to some Texas boyz!"

" Hey bawwwwwb"

"Hey Bawwwwwwb"

"Hey Bawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwb!"

I don't think anyone's answered this properly yet, actually.

In the middle of the fight song we chant: Give 'em hell, give 'em hell, make 'em eat isht. But at the END we chant:

YAY Orange!
YAY White!
YAY Longhorns, fight fight fight!
Texas fight, Texas fight, YAY Texas fight!
Texas fight, Texas fight, YAY Texas fight!

And THEN we sing the Eyes of Texas, spliced into the fight song. Does that make sense? LOL.

Yeah, I dont get that either, cause its all those rednecks (hating on UT) that are all about Texas stuff (the state, not the school). All REK, pat Green, redwings, big trucks, etc.) Tech is an odd duck like that. (with the exceptions of the professional schools; law, medicine) My only explinations are:

1) Lubbock isnt really a part of Texas. You cant live 8 hours from the capital and still be in the same state. I think Lubbock is closer to 5 other state capitals then to its own. I grew up around there. Its kinda sad too when you realize that Lubbock is the second largest town in the Big 12.

2) I think its a big case of trying to talk alot of isht so you look like an equal. Cause Tech has the rivalry with UT, but UT has no rivalry with Tech. Kinda like when you go to prison and you have to kill the biggest MF on your block to prove you are a tough guy so no one rapes you in the showers. Tech is the skinny guy that dosent wanna go to the showers. Tech is a good school in its own right. But its no UT. It shouldnt claim it is either, or even claim its on par (and I know plenty of alums and undergrads who do). Texas has two flagship universities; UT & AM. Thats all. Its not a matter of opinion either. Its how the law is written, funding is set up, regents, system, etc. Like I said, Tech is a good school, but the UT hatred is unfounded, unprofessional and immature.

You hit the nail right on the head. UT could care less about Tech, but Tech wants to make their match-ups into some kind of epic rivalry. Um, no.

There is alot of Texas state pride here, don't get me wrong...and they seem to have alot of respect for A&M, but their hatred of UT is just irrational. Oh well. I like living here, but that is one thing I can't stand. What're they going to do when Texas State becomes flagship #3? Heh.

Is Lubbock really that bad? My other cousin went there and she loved it.

Ok my cousins in Texas... 2 went to UT (started a fraternity there, another was an ATO), another went to SMU. Their sister went to Tech and I think the baby son went to Baylor. ANother cousin went to Texas A&M.

Everyone said that Tech was filled with hicks, and A&M was filled with cult like people. UT has girls that don't shave their pits (my cousins words, not mine), and SMU has all the money.

Personally, I like all the Texas schools. But I always find myself rootin for A&M and SMU over anyone else. If it's A&M and SMU then I hope that there would be a big massive orgy amongst me and the women because SMU girls are hot and I hear A&M girls know how to party.

And hey man. I live 8 hours away from my capital. And I am very much California!!!!

amycat412 01-05-2006 04:20 PM

Seemed like most of Los Angeles was united in rooting for USC, whether they went there or not. Except... UCLA fans who were acting much like you describe Tech fans acting.

it was funny during the pre-game show when they showed a map of the U.S. and the states that favored either texas or usc. there were like 10 states that were in favor of texas and the rest for usc.

i wonder how much the gamblers lost on usc?

LOL 1600 in the room of 5 I was in alone. Of course really 1400, because my bet was a double or nothing carry over on a bet I had w mr amycat's brother that USC would finish the regular season undefeated and be in the nat'l champ game.

dzrose93 01-05-2006 06:04 PM

I'm not a huge Longhorns fan, but I pulled for Texas last night for three reasons:

1) Because it's a Southern school.
2) Because USC has been hyped up so much lately, and I was ready for a changing of the guard.
3) Because Matthew McConaughy looked HOT when he was talking smack about USC during the pre-game show.

In all honesty, though, I could probably omit reasons #1 and #2 and just go with #3. I love me some Matthew McConaughy. ;) :D

As my Brother UNLDelt pointed out, there were Delts from both Texas and Southern California on the pre-game show.

Texas = Matthew McConaughy
SC = Will Farrell

I'll bet Matt would beat Will in arm wrestling as well.

You nailed it on the descriptions dude. Like you had lived here your whole life or something. Of course there are exceptions to the stereotype, but a lot of it fits.

I should have clarified. I dont care for Lubbock. I am sure some people like it. One can definately have a good time there. Dump 26,000 18-23 year olds anywhere and they will make their own good time. Its just in the middle of nowhere and the weather sucks. Bad. And its a dry county.

That's what I thought b/f I moved here...the middle of nowhere part is true, but the weather is great, not including the twice a year hideous wind/dust storms....our summer nights cool off enough to need a sweater, and it's dry...none of that humidity I hated in DFW.

Re the dry county - that's not much of a hindrance. All that means is we can't get it at the 7-11 or the grocery store. It flows free @ the restaurants & bars, and the strip is a 10 minute drive from campus.... Try going to school somewhere like Tarleton, where the closest beer barn is 30 minutes away in Proctor. Bootlegging is big bidness in Erath Co.!

But, back to our regularly scheduled discussion...I was amused to hear on the radio this a.m. that sales of UT gear has skyrocketed out here in Red Raiderland...hmmmm.

Tom Earp 01-06-2006 06:46 PM

Yes, but another Big 12 Team Won in a Bowl Game. It still is the best League in College!:)

California, The Land of Fruits and Nuts and AAARnold the dumbanator. Well actually I hope He comes down on the Nutsoids (Poloticians).

Well, not to dumb, He has Money and Married into the Kennedy Money!

Go Maria, run the State!:D

Texas, was there in Tyler when it wasnt S**T when Dad was In Boot Camp there. Had more creepy crawlys and sand than a sprout of Grass.
