We're apparently due for some snow tomorrow. It's a whopping 8 degrees F right now. Maybe it will just be too cold to snow?

DC_Zeta1920 12-08-2005 10:52 AM

We are due to have snow beginning tonight into tomorrow morning. They are talking 2-4 inches (and I am also hearing 3-6 inches) of snow with sleet and freezing rain. It snowed here on Monday and with good road conditions traffic was the absolute worst, so I can only imagine tomorrows traffic.

PM_Mama00 12-08-2005 11:31 AM

We're supposed to get 6-8 inches tonight. Woohoo there goes my Thursday night plans. As long as it stays decent around January 7th, I'll be happy. But let's face it.... Michigan is worse in January.

KatieKate1244 12-08-2005 11:42 AM

They've been saying for about the last week or so that we're supposed to get 2-4 inches. My town will probably get a dusting, and the next largest town over gets hit with 6 inches. At least that's how that went last year.

(And yes, the schools do close here for even a .5" of snow!)

Dionysus 12-08-2005 01:28 PM

I'm stuck at mom's work. Her car did not do to well this morning, so I took her to work on the way to school. Well, it got worse and worse on the way. We did an 180, fortunately there were no cars near us. There's no way in hell I'm going to school! YAY for computer labs!

CFB was closed today, so no work for me:D

Xylochick216 12-08-2005 02:54 PM

We're supposed to get a few inches tonight, plus about half an inch of ice. I love snow, but ice isn't so fun.

Me too! I frittered away the whole day! Now I think the streets are clear and I can keep my haircut appointment.
Priorities, don't ya know....

ISUKappa 12-08-2005 04:59 PM

Started snowing sometime last night, have about 6" total so far and still coming down. This is one of those times I'm really glad I have 4WD. The plows haven't even really been out much because it's coming down faster than they can clean the roads.

ETA, this had to be the lamest 2000th post, evar.

Sister Havana 12-08-2005 05:17 PM

It started snowing here about an hour or so ago and it's really blowing and coming down fast. We're supposed to get 3-6 inches by tonight.

This is one of those times I am really glad I take the train and that my bus stop (for the bus to the train) is on lower Michigan Avenue, where I'm basically sheltered from the elements. :D

But I have a meeting tonight that I can't miss, since we're having elections and we need to make sure there's a quorum. (we were supposed to have them last month but there wasn't a quorum.)

AGDee 12-08-2005 05:26 PM

They've upped our prediction and it's now 5-8 inches. That could be enough for the kids to have a snow day.. we'll see. I'm going to try to make it into work no matter what.

Tom Earp 12-08-2005 05:35 PM

Typical of Kansas City.

Maybe 1-2 inches.

OOPs, Maybe 2-4. 4-6.

Oh, Hell No!

10-12 inches.

People playing bumper cars on the Streets of course!

Schools all closed to day along with Govt. and Courts. Still Bumper Cars. Got to work and back paking lot wasnt plowed! Customer Parking left much to be desired and

was snowing so damn much, couldnt keep up with it.

Plowing was major streets early. Got home and of course made one pass at street. Parked on the Street and tried to start Snow Blower. It basically said, nope, I am not going to start:mad:

Been single digits for many nights and just barely double digits during the day!

Global Warming WHERE?:o

I'm WISHING and PRAYING for that.
I could use a day to get my own work done.

bluefish81 12-08-2005 11:53 PM

It snowed all day today. It must have started sometime last night. Apparently the City of West Des Moines was afraid to get their snow plows dirty or something because they sure as heck weren't using them. It wasn't until I was coming home from work that the streets were finally cleared off.

aephi alum 12-08-2005 11:58 PM

We're slated for 4-8" over tonight and tomorrow. Guess who's telecommuting.

That sucks!!!

PM_Mama00 12-09-2005 12:19 AM

It's snowing like a biatch here. I think we've got a lil more than 3 inches so far but that's just looking at my footprints in the driveway. Driving wasn't toooo bad, but we were in a Jeep Liberty which I must say is excellent in crappy conditions.

KatieKate1244 12-09-2005 03:00 AM

It's slightly too warm for the 2-4 inches we were promised, but it's been raining slush. It's gonna freeze right before dawn, and that's going to cause some major ice issues tomorrow.

Yeah when I got in at 12:30am, it was about 3-4 inc already on the ground. The roads were PRETTY bad..no plowers out or anything. So its 6-8 inches before 8am. I'm hoping that school is cancelled tomorrow morning cuz i have this exam to write.

Xylochick216 12-09-2005 06:11 AM

We've got a few inches on the ground, but we've had a lot of ice overnight. I left my house at 3:05 this morning for work, and my usual 18-minute drive took over 40 minutes. I slid off the road once, and I never broke 20 mph. I love snow, but ice is no fun :(

DolphinChicaDDD 12-09-2005 07:04 AM

WE GOT OUT OF SCHOOL
NO MORE SCHOOL TODAY!!!!!

AGDee 12-09-2005 07:06 AM

So, my kids have a school day and the News 4 team just said they were reporting from Woodhaven and I looked to see where he was and he's at the entrance to my subdivision! Looks like the main roads are rough, but once I get to the freeway, work won't be a problem.

There's one of those interesting things about lots of snow... there is sometimes too much snow to get to work, but there is NEVER too much snow to get home..LOL.

I'll be working today.

ETA: The drive in to work wasn't bad once I was on the freeway. BUT, News 4 filmed me driving the down the street. It could be my 2 seconds of fame!

Sister Havana 12-09-2005 10:32 AM

Oh, was it a nightmare on the roads yesterday. I am grateful to the public transit gods that I didn't have to drive all the way into the city! The train ride was fine, no problems there. But I caught a ride with a friend of mine from the Belmont train station and it took us an hour and a half to get back to town! (This trip normally takes 15 minutes if that.) It took my sister two hours to get home from her job two towns over. My mom had a two and a half hour commute.

My friend's husband had the biggest nightmare. He left Mundelein (way up north) at 4pm. By 7pm he was only about halfway home. (It took him two hours to get from Army Trail Road on I-355 to North Avenue on I-355, and that's the next exit!) As of 9pm he had only made it two exits closer. I have no idea when he eventually made it home. (We passed over the expressway on the way back from Belmont and it was a giant parking lot - no one was moving.)

And at Midway Airport, a jet skidded off the runway, broke through a barrier and ended up in the middle of Central Avenue at 55th Street, hitting a couple cars in the process.

I drive a Jeep Liberty and this morning it was AWESOME. My house only has street or alley parking, and both of my roommates are still stuck. I had to come into work and was able to just pull right out of where the plows had piled up all the snow. The hardest part was scraping my windows as I'm way too short and so is my ice scraper. I just had to crank up the heat and let that defrost my windshield.

Hooray for 4wd, I just got the Jeep in November and it's been a godsend compared to the VW Beetle I was driving.

You can buy a super long made ice scrapper/snow brush. I have one that is telescopic. Its awesome. Wait until April-ish, and they all go on clearence at Target/Walmart. I picked it up last year, along with my collapseable shovel.

Just when I was feeling sad for living where there is no white christmas. I do not envy those who have to deal with this.

Add me to the list who had a not so fun drive. My 15min. drive from the nw burbs turned into 3 hour tour to get to my brother's place in Chicago. As I drove over the expressways, they just looked like giant parking lots. Guess who slept over?

This morning the main streets were clean. I saw one person's mini-van stuck in a ditch which must have happened last night because of the amount of snow on top of it. I am so thankful for front and rear defrosters on the windows.

My SIL's best friend called because she thought the SIL was on that flight since that the one she sometimes uses when she goes out of town on business.

I just now got finished shoveling. It's a winter wonderland.

I don't think I can wait, I fell over trying to reach this morning. I'm just too short! It was kinda funny I came to a stop this morning and all the snow from the top slid down the front of the jeep! I have to get a snow brush that can reach the top, or it could have been a disaster!

Tom Earp 12-09-2005 06:12 PM

SNOW!

Isnt going to melt anytime soon! KC just set a Low Temp. this Morning,-6!

Ass Wipes still havent plowed all of the employee parking behind the Shop.

I was right there with ya. Even though my communte was not that bad it took me 1 and half hours to get home when it usually only takes 45 minutes. It wasn't the roads that took so long it was the expressway. 53 up North was jammed packed and took me an hour on it when it normally takes me 15 minutes. I heard on the radio this morning that it took some people almost 5 hours to get home and that was just in the city of Chicago and its surrounding suburbs.

As for the Midway plane crash so far they have one casuality and it is a 6 year old boy. :( Can you imagine sitting in your car, waiting for a light to turn green and a plane crashing into your you?! It's just unreal!!

That's horrible. :(

We got slammed with ~ 8" of the white stuff. My car stayed snug and warm in its garage while I telecommuted. :)

RACooper 12-09-2005 09:18 PM

:D Man all you folks are sooo down... this stuff is the greatest - I look forward to the snow every year. As for the driving it is a blast; its so easy to go slipping and sliding over the back-roads (in a controled way).

I'm just looking forward to the fun in the snow over the holidays - ski-doo, skiing, snow shoeing, and general fun times up at the cottage - and hopefully a little camping.

preciousjeni 12-10-2005 05:17 PM

Ok - there was definitely a pile (eight inches) of snow atop my car roof today. My car is teeny (Honda Civic HB) and was absolutely hidden with snow!

Tom Earp 12-10-2005 05:40 PM

Welcome to Global Warming!:o

Tom Earp 12-11-2005 04:43 PM

House got warmer just watching it!:D

Xylochick216 12-16-2005 09:35 AM

We had another half inch or so of ice yesterday. Going home waws bad enough, but coming in this morning after it refroze was hellacious. I love snow, but ice is no fun.

Kansas City Weather Idiots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Snow starting later today. Maybe 1-2 in. Or, maybe 2-4, oops, well it could be maybe 5.
