you know, i actually like this show. prolly one of the realest TV families ive watched (reality TV or not).

is it me or does Run have a Cosby-esque persona to him?

kiml122 06-16-2006 08:59 PM

Y'all know I was ready for this show to return. I was happy to see the older kids go visit their mom. I was wondering what was the deal with her since she wasn't or at least they didn't show her at Angela's high school graduation last season.

I was LOL when I heard him say this ( I say it all the time). I know those kid's parents were like "Rev. Run.... " .

Around these parts, Cotto Mattay = "country speak" for "God (Cot) Al (to) Mighty (Mattay) ;)

Justine, Diggy and Russy have raspy annoying voices
like they need to clear their throat or take a Hall's:confused:

Okay... I was thrown off. I guess I don't know too much celebrity news because I thought Justine was their mom too lol

I thought about the same thing if I have more than one boy... I have two brothers that passed and I considered naming my sons (or I could just do a first/middle name combo- it wouldn't sound right though) after my brothers, but I never considered adding Jr. to it. Neither of them had children so I guess I could, it would just be odd to have two Jr.s (or 3) in the house from the same daddy.

After watching the season 1 marathon today (in honor of Father's Day), I noticed that all three of the boys are named after the Simmons' boy. Jo Jo is named after Run, Russy is named after Russell and Diggy's real name is Daniel (Run & Russ' brother as well as their father's name). I guess it's a way to keep the legacy going.

I peeped that the other day when I looked up how long Jus and Run had been married. Knowing that, it makes the names more meaningful.:)

Yeah, I can't believe I watched the whole first season and never heard them call Diggy 'Daniel'. It made the whole name situation make sense<insert lightbulb icon here>.

OK. I'm slow. Sorors give me some clarification on the siblings. Vanessa, Angela and JoJo are not Justine's kids? If that is the case I would never have known looking at Vanessa and Angela because they look like they belong to Run and Justine. The only thing that throws JoJo off is his darker complexion.

Run and Valerie are the parents to Vanessa, Angela and JoJo. JoJo's complexion is similar to Valerie's.

Justine is mom to Russy, Diggy, and fetus. :)

OK. So another question why are the three older kids with Run & Justine and not their mother?

Check that out....I remember when Run got divorced from his first wife and from what I remember he has always had the kids.

dzdst796 06-20-2006 10:52 AM

Thanks for that info. I didn't even know he was married before.

So all of y'all are just gonna act like their mom and stepdaddy don't look like they met at rehab?

OK, my bad. Maybe I didn't have my glasses on while watching the episode and am making a bad generalization about the folks... However, stepdad does look like he has served a little time. And mama too....

Maybe the older kids were with Run because he was a little more financially stable. Although he could have just as well paid child support and given them the same lifestyle....Things that make you go hmmmm.....

Soror, you are soooo wrong for that, CTHU!!:p

Sophist08edLady 06-20-2006 10:48 PM

Actually "Redefined" is correct. It was well known "back in da day" that Run and Russ had issues with "da pipe". Run turned away from drugs this was a part of his spiritual revolution. Russ too, that's why he became a vegan and a Buddhist. It is also well known that his former wife did not decide to follow his lead and Run ended up caring for the children. When Justine met him, he was a single father.

It is more interesting that the children(Vanessa, JoJo and Angela) call Justine mom.

That is what threw me off. I was trying to think back, like "don't they call Justine mom?" Hell naw. I would have to be long in my grave before my child called anybody else mom. Even then my ghost would haunt them. I don't even play that step-mom crap. You, hypothetical person whom my ex-husband may someday choose to marry, shall have no derivative of the word "mother" in your title. And that's about it.

Soror Redefined, I was thinking the same thing about the crackishness of the mom and her husband...

Soror-twin, I DO agree with you about the step-mama issue, HOWEVER, if you were a crackhead (at which time I would have to beat you down and drag you to rehab) and had been since lil' Skee was a tot and step-mama was the only REAL mother figure she had ever known, could you blame her?

Aside from it all, their family has a different dynamic. They are close knit and probably don't even sweat it like that. Justine does everything for them (from what we can see). She gets her props for that.

Yes I could and would "blame her".

kiml122 06-21-2006 09:18 PM

Actually I can see them calling her mom. My step brother was raised by my mom from the time that he was 6, why do you ask because, basically his motther told his father to either come get him, or she was going to put him out in the streets. Nope she wasn't on drugs, but as you see she is/was crazy. My mom raised him and he calls my mom, mom. You would never know that he isn't my blood brother and his father not my bloos father because we are that close.

spr06diva 06-21-2006 09:39 PM

lol

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! And I woulda never guessed that the 3 older kids had a different mother...they treat their stepmom w/ such respect and the 2 daughters even kinda look like her (so i thought). Valerie and her new husband do look abit run down though, lol. Does anyone know how long Justine and Run been together or married?

I feel you, and you have the right to be mad.

I am noting that their situation may be different because they may have never had that type of relationship with their birth mother and Justine may be the only REAL mom that they have ever known. I know people who were in similar situations that have adapted to calling the stepmom, foster mom, aunt, whomever "Mom," and still refer to their birth mother as "Mom." Birth mom can be as pissed as she wants to be, but if she didn't do what needed to be done at the times when it REALLY mattered, she needs to get over it.

Miss. Mocha 06-22-2006 02:33 PM

Okay, for the entire first season, I wondered where the mother of the three eldest children was. I wondered if she was dead, strung out, a jump-off, a bust-down, or what. They never mentioned her. It was like The Village. "The thing we do not speal of."

It was nice to see the older children so excited about their other siblings. It was also cool to see that side of the equation.

CrimsonTide4 06-22-2006 09:38 PM

Diggy, I think you should write a rap about your big azz teeth.
Them are some big azz teeth.

CrimsonTide4 06-22-2006 09:50 PM

Yo Jus has some flow and Diggy's rap was pretty cool. :D

i was born in a hospital, lol.
Run has hair on his shoulders. LMAO @ his conversation with the MD. This man is nuts.:p

raregem1913 06-27-2006 11:02 AM

Justine's voice is kinda "touched" too. She's whiney like Fran the nanny lady.

Diovanka8 06-27-2006 12:16 PM

I really enjoy this show. It kind of reminds me of the Cosby show in a weird way. It's important for these young kids to see this unit. I love the show!!!

Miss. Mocha 06-27-2006 02:15 PM

This may have been mentioned, but does Justine have a real voice? Everything that comes out of her mouth sounds like whining to me.

I often watch this show and think...where did he meet her, and what were the circumstances surrounding their first encounter, and subsequent first date?
