Well, ladies, it's my first week at my new job! It's going well, and I think I'm going to be VERY happy there!

Also, my BF was supposed to leave for Israel today and had to postpone his trip a few days, so now he won't be gone as long...just 10 days of missing him instead of the full 2-weeks! :p

sigmaceli 04-10-2008 12:03 AM

So, I can absolutely discuss it now, and you'll all be reading about it in the Triangle soon!

I got chosen to be a 2008-09 Leadership Consultant! I am stoked! :D

YAY! Congratulations! That is such an honor! You're like our own little GC celebrity of sorts! I hope you have an amazing time this next year and pop up on the boards every so often and let us know where you are!

sigmaceli 04-12-2008 08:49 PM

Thanks! I'm hoping to blog my experiences and keep everyone updated. And of course, I'll definitely be keeping my new GC Sisters updated on my progress!

sailboatgirl 04-13-2008 07:13 PM

Congratulations! What a wonderful opportunity...to spend a year traveling and representing Sigma!

ms_gwyn 04-13-2008 11:45 PM

Congrats on the LC...

Finished my first week of Culinary School....have to say it is an eye opening experience and I am glad that I have done this.

so jealous. My dream is to go to culinary school....just didn't realize it until about 5 years after college. Still have student loans to pay off.

THANK YOU...

Also, I am still paying loans from my jaunt in college (sans the BA!) and I have financed this journey COMPLETELY via loans....it may kill me down the line...

But I also look at it this way, I would love to have a BA, but for what I really want to do with my life...I don't need it.

To be honest the only reason I would finish getting my BA (I am only short residency credits at whichever university I choose to enter), is to obtain my MLIS and work in archives .... it would be nice, but a long way down the line.

My dream job is Cooking, Writing, Designing and Crafting each for 3 months of the year. Attending Culinary School (Pātisserie & Baking program) is my first step in my dream.

This is the year of first step, starting with September 08 and realizing my dream of becoming a Sigma :D

sigmaceli 04-17-2008 12:23 AM

SO COOL! It's amazing when you find your calling and a tasty one at that! :D Keep living your dreams and making Sigma proud!

KSUViolet06 04-28-2008 01:03 AM

I have 2 more weeks left in the semester and can't wait for it to be over.

In other news, one of my chapter sisters is getting married on Friday. This one is particularly exciting as she has been one of my best friends and was also my house roommate!

KSUViolet06 06-02-2008 04:26 AM

It's been kind of quiet in here, hope everything is going well for everyone!

I survived my first year of grad school with a 4.0 this semester.

I'm also going to be a bridesmaid in my big's wedding (with all the rest of her littles which is neat). Yay.

SuperblySigma 06-02-2008 09:45 PM

Aww, congrats, KSUViolet.

I am at summer school in another city and I got lonely without my sisters... so I made some letters and put them in my window. :D

ms_gwyn 06-02-2008 10:08 PM

well I just found out that I got an A- in my bread class, my instructor was being very generous with me, I believe....next section we are making, pies, tarts and cakes!...YAY back to desserts....the breads were killing me!

ilovetheviolets 06-09-2008 10:55 PM

After losing/leaving my job right after my honeymoon in SEPTEMBER I FINALLY got a job, and it is a phenomenal job...I am so incredibly excited!

Congratulations! What a relief that must be!

glamorbomb 06-13-2008 08:43 PM

Since this is the "random" thread...

I actually met a Sigma very randomly on livejournal (of all places) who is now one of my very best friends. We live in different states but we try to see each other as often as possible. We were posting in a livejournal community about music and she noticed in my user info that I was a Sigma so she messaged me and our friendship blossomed from there! I always love sharing that story :P

That's Sigma related. Unrelated?...

My 1 year wedding anniversary is next month and I'm super excited. We're going to California to celebrate because he's never been to Disneyland (or world) or to a beach. He's actually never been west of Chicago. He asked me the other day if any of the Great Lakes counted as a beach, which made me laugh hysterically.

It also reminded me: I have lived in four different states all as different as can be. I can't believe how many differences there are between all the states of the same country!

As for Forever 21, I used to LOVE that store when I lived out West. There are no Forever 21s here, and it makes me sad :(

And my last random: I am reading a fabulous book called "French Women Don't Get Fat." It actually encourages you to eat chocolate... I have no problem with that! :D

KSUViolet06 09-20-2008 07:21 PM

Not much to report lately, other than that school is kicking my butt.

SigmaShelley 09-21-2008 11:33 AM

Was at a Mizzou tailgating party yesterday hoping to find some new Sigmas at Mizzou. Instead met two new sister from Stephen's college who were just a delight. While talking to them a sister from Nu chapter stopped by also to visit. It was fun to see all of us together via a purple shirt!!!

sailboatgirl 09-21-2008 03:15 PM

Saw this thread bumped and thought I'd share random tidbits from the life of sailboatgirl...

New job (started in April) is going well! There was a HUGE adjustment period for me (long story), but I'm loving it now.

Also, semi-related to the huge adjustment period with work (and several other things as well), my boyfriend and I broke up late this summer. It's been another ROUGH adjustment for me, but I'm doing pretty good now...reclaiming myself and what I want, and mourning the loss of the relationship with the man I thought I would marry.

I'm glad that fall is almost here...so ready for the time of change and reflection that it always brings me!

BetteDavisEyes 10-02-2008 09:45 PM

Sorry to crash but did anyone see the latest copy of UsWeekly? It's the one with Leighton Meester on the cover. Carrie Underwood is in there wearing her Tri Sigma shirt and posing with sisters. It's really cute. :)

ShyViolet 11-11-2008 09:58 PM

A big bit of randomness from the life of Laura (and an explanation for my lack of presence on the boards here and a number of other websites)...

I finished and submitted my doctoral thesis on Friday. Oh yeah! 400 pages, including six chapters, six appendices, and about 150 images. The text alone is 80,000 words, and I shudder to think what the appendices might be (they're not included in the word count, thankfully). It was a lot scarier than I anticipated to hand the thing (well three copies of it) over to the office.

Now what do I do? :D I have a lot of free time (aside from teaching and working in the visual resources collection), which is going to take some getting used to.

How is uni/grad school treating everyone else??

Cheers,
Laura

This is absolutely randomly random, but I am sitting in front of GORGEOUS Jocelyn in her composite from 2005!

Go Alpha Beta! :)

Thank you! How long will you be in the area?

It's a small world.

sigmaceli 11-21-2008 03:27 PM

Small world indeed! I'll be with the chapter until Sunday. :)

KSUViolet06 12-14-2008 11:27 PM

My finals are over and I'm so excited to relax!

I hope everyone is having a good holiday season.

Cricketbug 01-11-2009 11:31 AM

I'm new but have some random-ness!

Starting new semester of grad school (CU Denver) with 3 classes. Am I insane? PLUS, I have a 3 year old, a husband of almost 10 years!, and 3 cats. And I have a job which I love.

However, said job just got more insane. I'm a High School language arts teacher who just got thrown into the Special Ed coordinator position, since our previous SpEd teacher gave 4 days notice over break and just left. Nothing like taking your first SpEd class for your MA and getting told to learn on the job.

ms_gwyn 01-11-2009 02:04 PM

I have been really quiet on GC lately and wanted to give my sisters an update!

I have finish school, now in externship ... I will be starting my business now and also I am restarting making my soaps and candles...

2009 will be a great year!

ShyViolet 04-16-2009 12:24 PM

Wow that does sound busy, Cricketbug!

Things are going well in Scotland. I had my viva (thesis defense) in January, and passed with minor corrections. :) It lasted less than an hour, and they told me straight off that I had it (which is apparently rare). So I suppose I did something right. ;)

I'm tutoring and lecturing still, and looking for proper jobs for next year. I'm also dancing a lot (still) and have been cast in the lead female role in a new Irish dance show which will premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this August. Exciting times!

Hoping all is well with everyone else.

Sigma Love and Mine,
Laura

KSUViolet06 05-07-2009 03:59 AM

Just finishing up year 2 of grad school. YAY.

KSUViolet06 05-25-2009 11:57 AM

It is SUPER quiet around here lately, but HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY LADIES!

Any plans?

ilovetheviolets 05-26-2009 01:20 AM

Postive: I continued my move today into the phenomenal city of Philadelphia. Negative: I am also continuing my job search...oh the joys of this economy!

sigmaceli 05-26-2009 09:24 PM

Boo on the job search! I know many from last year that are still struggling to find jobs right now. It's seriously scary...but I'm happy you're all set with your move, Randi!

As for me, I just moved to Baton Rouge last week! I'll be starting as a GA for LSU Orientation next Monday and I'm really excited!

violet_sigma3 05-28-2009 10:38 PM

Tomorrow the kids who were sophomores in HS when I was a senior will graduate, and I feel extremely old. On a funny note, the 7-10 year old girls at work told me I looked like I was 16, 12, or 20. How that works, I have no clue.

Shellfish 06-04-2009 12:22 PM

Hope you guys don't mind a crash from a KD, but here's a cute find for any collector of old books and/or sorority antiquities:
http://cgi.ebay.com/1938-Social-Precedents-Sorority-Ethics-Booklet_W0QQitemZ220427773311QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH _DefaultDomain_0?hash=item335284e57f&_trksid=p3286 .c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12|66%3A2|39%3A1|72%3A570|2 40%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A3|294%3A50

It's a college etiquette guide from the 1930s. I'm tempted by it, but it would be even better for an ASA or Tri-Sigma.

unicorn 06-15-2009 10:34 PM

That's really cool, Shellfish!

My random: I finally scored an interview... it's part-time, but I can certainly use the structure and cash. Woohoo!

ShyViolet 07-14-2009 04:40 PM

ShyViolet's Graduation Photos!

So these have been awhile in coming - but here they are. Photos from my PhD graduation. :) I now have a piece of paper that says I'm clever and fancy academic regalia to show for my three year's work (plus a two volume thesis). Graduation was fun as there were four of us from the department getting our PhDs, but busy and a bit stressful trying to keep everyone happy and entertained, as well as trying to enjoy myself. :p

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...K/101_1360.jpg
This is me at the castle - chilling in the ruins. Graduates got in free if they were wearing gowns (students get in free in their undergrad or graduate gowns).

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...K/101_1369.jpg
Much silliness ensued in the castle... Like this and...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...K/101_1372.jpg
This! I think everyone has to have one of these obligatory, let's wear the "hood like an actual hood" photos.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...K/101_1374.jpg
Nice one for the family (I still haven't sent graduation announcements - now they're post-graduation updates... Oops).

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...K/101_1390.jpg
Jumping over the PH cobbles. I stepped on them for the first time when I landed - it was weird! (Students daren't step on them for fear of being cursed by Patrick Hamilton, who was burnt at the stake as the first martyr of the Scottish Reformation on that very spot. Apparently, he'll make you fail your degree, so tradition has it that when you finish, you go jump on the letters).

Enjoy! Hope everyone else is having a good summer and to those in grad school: there is light at the end of the tunnel. ;)

Sigma Love and Mine,
Laura

KSUViolet06 07-14-2009 04:42 PM

Congratulations, Dr. ShyViolet!

ilovetheviolets 07-19-2009 10:15 PM

so my random updates...

i found another job (i think) and am very excited about having structure in my life again. in preparation my mom and i went on a little shopping spree as my last job had me working from home. this does not leave you with a lot of clothes to wear to work when your daily uniform was pajama pants and t-shirts.

update #2, my husband's music can now be found on itunes. i'm so proud of all the work he puts into this as he does have a "day job" as an engineer that keeps him busy. if you want to look it up search "stolen rhodes".

update #3, i finally met a sigma i have been talking to for over a year via facebook. she is wonderful! i got to perform circle degree for her. this makes her the first woman i was able to do that for. hopefully there will be many more.

xoxo <---can't wait for gossip girl to come back!

oops...p.s...CONGRATULATIONS SHY VIOLET! That is a huge accomplishment.

Yes I did! I'm a copy editor, so I see everything before it goes to print.
