Apparently all isn't "kosher" at Hyles Anderson College.

Look what I found:

But wait... there's more!

Sorry for all the multiple posts, but I'm digging and finding out even more dirt. This is starting to get scary:

"Besides Hyles own church and schools being scandalized with immorality and pedophilic activity (numerous FBCH men have been charged or convicted of child molestation), Hyles spawned a number of "ministries" (there are approximately 200 independent Baptist churches nationwide that hold Hyles and his teachings in high regard) that have been scandalized in the same manner. For example, seven Hyles-affiliated churches from 1984-1993 have been rocked by child molestation scandals (San Diego; North Sharon, MI; Petersburg, VA; Anniston, AL; Monroe, LA; Beaumont, TX; and Hyles own church in Hammond). From 5/16/93-5/20/93, Detroit television station WJBK-TV aired a five-part exposé on Hyles and various associated ministries."

I'm going to go waaaaay out on a limb here and say a wee bit f*cked up?

EDITTED>>> One of the "testimonials" on the websites exposing Hyles speaks of having a bus route (for bringing people to church) 'canned' for bringing I quote "black kids to church" <it's the first webpage>

ooooops.... another "testimonial":
Quote:

Jack Hyles would say and do anything to validate his ministry and his massive ego. Numbers were ALL that mattered to him. I have seen buses full of black children who, while not being allowed in the bus ministry, were driven down the alley behind the church, told to repeat a prayer, and counted as "souls won on church property" during big days. It was a disgraceful practice!
The more I look at this the more it reminds me of a slicker version of the Phelps clan and the WBC (thank God they don't have a "college").

a.e.B.O.T. 07-08-2005 11:34 PM

Oh, well they do have a program for people who only speak spanish...

God, you had to mention that f*cker, didn't you?? I've relished every moment I haven't been in Topeka and witness his disgraceful practices.

BirthaBlue4 07-09-2005 11:53 AM

Its really sad when this kinda stuff goes on and they have the audacity to use God as a "helper" in their own personal madness. I know this is nothing new, but to have a college to formally breed insanity is a bit much.

AchtungBaby80 07-09-2005 02:46 PM

 I really can't believe any of this.

Jill1228 07-09-2005 09:32 PM

Great minds think alike! i was thinking the same thing! :D
I started reading the rules and I definitely know some people who would love this school (like people in my mother in law's church)

Note to self: Do NOT show this to my Pentacostal Mother in Law...she will pray for her grandson (my stepson) to go to a school like this

SO NOT GONNA HAPPEN!

All you have to do is tell her that it is not accredited, no one can argue with that if they want them to have any success in life!

If I remember correctly, they don't have any national groups, they have their own greek-letter organizations called collegians.

Can this really be taught?

What happens when you get your degree in Marriage and Womanhood and you can't find a husband? Your education has gone to waste!

There are a couple girls in these pictures. I'll let you judge for yourself.

I think that guy and girl are standing to close to each other. Behaviour like that could lead to dancing!

Perhaps the final thesis towards that degree involves actually getting married. Like you can't complete your course of study without it. Gives a whole new meaning to being in college for your MRS degree.

Hyles-Anderson still isn't on The Facebook yet. I'm stunned. ;)

AOX81 12-11-2005 02:52 PM

Sounds like a cult to me...will we be making any trips to Waco?

pinkiebell1001 12-11-2005 04:47 PM

Did anybody catch this "lovely" quote???

“A man's main business is God; a woman's main business is the man.”
-Dr. Jack Hyles

No joke - I have a senior is my seminar class (that I teach) who is going to BJU in the fall. Seriously... he is BEYOND excited.

When he told me... I had to turn away to keep form laughing.

/hijack/

You're a much kinder person than me - or better able to control their laughter.

One of the grad students (UofT School of Theology) in my Scripture in the Christian Tradition hails from BJU (so many jokes to make)... and I gotta admit he has provided me with the most amusement this academic term ~ nothing beats watching him try and score points against the prof. A Prof that happens to be a priest that taught ecumenical theology at the Vatican - and is fluent in Aramaic, Hebrew, Greek, and Latin (and can quote various translation of scripture in each as well). I think the grad guy was shocked that a Catholic priest could go toe-to-toe quoting scripture... and the works of Calvin, Luther, Wyclif, etc.

If Fr. Donovan was such a nice guy he might actually get offended... but he usually views it as an chance to explore various interpretations (literal/allegorical/theological/spiritual) of what happens to be in question. For an indication of what Fr. Donovan is like check out the link where he discusses the his art collection:

AlphaGamDiva 12-12-2005 12:47 AM

didn't read this whole thread, but got the jist. i was at work on saturday, and there were 3 girls that came in for updos and make up and stuff......going to a Baptist Independant college "function"....couldn't call it a dance b/c they have a 6 inch rule.....meaning that a guy and a girl cannot be closer than 6 inches to each other. her and her b/f had never kissed, held hands or anything, but that he had put his arm around her once, but they didn't tell anyone!!!! the horror!!!

how does this prepare anyone for the real world? i mean, the 6 inch thing is one (weird) thing, but actual degree-obtaining classes on understanding your husband.....come on!

pastafarian 12-12-2005 12:22 PM

Someday, I hope that the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster will have a college of its own.

KDlady04 12-18-2005 05:27 PM

hehe I wonder what the rejection letter is like...

maybe I should fill out a devilish application and see what they send me.

good grief!

Beanblossom1 01-06-2006 08:23 PM

I'm guessing they don't have a class called 'Woman the Satisfier'. ;) Maybe I should apply to teach that class - will give new meaning to their missionary degree.

Sister Havana 10-26-2006 02:45 PM

Bumping to let everyone know they've updated their website and they have the new catalog online. :D

Who's up for a field trip? ;)

RedRoseSAI 10-26-2006 02:53 PM

OMG, I SAW one of their missionary buses this summer! It was going east on Milwaukee, east of Damen and North. I hope the nice fundie kids enjoyed the Wicker Park freak show!

ForeverRoses 10-26-2006 03:33 PM

OHH- I think I saw a girl's ANKLES in one of the pictures.

I'm surprised they allow the "young ladies" to watch men's intramural sports. I would think that the sweaty men might arouse "inappropriate thoughts" in the young ladies.

Sister Havana 10-26-2006 05:15 PM

Dr. Wendell Evans is speaking in Elgin next month. RedRoseSAI, let's go! :D

GeekyPenguin 10-26-2006 05:41 PM

"We do not fellowship with liberals."
Sounds like they've been talking to some people on GC.

"The nine million dollar campus..."
My law school cost almost four times that and we have fewer students.

A MAN is teaching the women how to be good wives.

If you are divorced and under 25, bad. Divorced and over 25, okay.

I also like that there is a picture of the chapel on every page.

And how can you get a B.S. degree when you've never taken a science course?

CutiePie2000 10-26-2006 05:45 PM

" Men have the opportunity to participate in exciting football, indoor soccer, basketball, and softball leagues."

I guess women are not to participate in sports... No comment.

This really amuses me. I guess a man would be able to tell a woman how to -- uhhhh, never mind.

Since they're privately funded, then Title 9 doesn't apply.. sadly.

Anything is possible when you make up your own school. I like that a non-student woman married to a student can get a Certificate in Wifery and Motherhood.
