Oh my gosh ... that dancing banana is soooooo cute!

Good luck Copa!

MTSUGURL 10-01-2005 04:15 PM

Did they say how long you would have to wait to hear something?

copacabana 10-01-2005 04:40 PM

lmao I love the dancing banana! That's totally cute:D

No, they did not tell us how long we'd have to wait to hear something. I asked my friend (who took me to the COR party) and she said that if we don't hear anything by Monday she'll ask about it. So we have really no idea what's going on...

UKDaisy 10-02-2005 02:59 AM

I love this thread!!

I'm sending you all kinds of good thoughts and prayers and vibes!!!

:D

ps... I think its totally a huge plus that you have a girl friend in the sorority. i think that helps especially with the fact that she's willing to check for you.

mmcat 10-03-2005 12:26 AM

sweetie....
fingers and toes crossed.
may it end happy.

copacabana 10-03-2005 05:28 PM

*sigh*...I haven't heard anything at all from banana, so at this point I'm pretty much assuming that I didn't get in. My friend only said she knows that four or five (out of about 9 of us at the COR event) got in, but she doesn't know who (since she's just pledged, she didn't vote on who got in or anything). I'll most likely find out tonight after their meeting, but I feel like I would have heard something by now.

EDIT
So I emailed one of the other girls that I went to the COR party with and she said that the girls that SHE talked to at banana told her that they don't actually have any open spots right now but they're going to have more COR events and they'll call us if they want us to come back.

So now I'm even more confused! Hopefully my friend will be able to clarify for me tonight what exactly is going on, because it seems like nobody really knows what banana is planning to do with us, if they're planning anything at all...

TriDeltaSallie 10-03-2005 07:14 PM

Oh my heart goes out to you!

When I rushed, I went through what was then called open rush. I received a bid from one house where I had friends, but that wasn't the house I really wanted. I waited all day and all evening of bid day to see if I got a bid from the house I really wanted. They never came. I was so disappointed and tried all day the next day to understand why I didn't get a bid when I had pretty much been assured at preference that I would be getting one.

As it turned out, since I lived off campus (at home) my bid did not get delivered to me on bid day, but they brought it to me the next day. The girls who were supposed to bring it to me got lost, etc. (I know. They should have called, but...)

Anyway, all that to say that things happen behind that scenes that you wouldn't expect. Hang in there and I hope it all works out for you to be a "banana"! :)

UKDaisy 10-04-2005 08:21 PM

This is frustrating I know. I remember back in the day when I did COR the first time. I kept waiting, and waiting, and waiting for this one sorority to invite me to events. It def. doesn't help the nerves!

Keep your head up girl!!!

mmcat 10-05-2005 12:02 AM

how sad my friend.
just remember your importance and your value and do not allow this to bring you down.

Lindz928 10-05-2005 11:22 AM

Question.... Why are they having COR events if they don't have any open spots?

I agree. If that's just a nice way to say you didn't receive a bid, they need some serious help in the communication department.

copacabana 10-05-2005 05:19 PM

I think everyone was just kind of speculating...but I feel like the chapter should have told us when we were there what to expect.
I don't really have any news yet...my friend told me last night that there were definitely people voted in and the final vote was held last night. This morning, the chapter emailed all of us who went to the COR event and said that they will be in touch with us later this week.

I agree with you. It's a little weird for them to keep you waiting as long as you have. But hat news is good then! At least you have some sense of when you'll find out!

Drolefille 10-05-2005 05:26 PM

From my COB experience, we never really tell the girls coming to our events how many spots we have open. However, we certainly wouldn't COB if we didn't have any spots at all! And I suspect that if we only had a couple of spots, only a couple of girls would be COB'd at a time. If a girl lost interest or was for some reason voted down, we'd COB someone else, but we wouldn't do a larger scale COB for a tiny amount of spaces. Did I make sense there?

I wish you luck. Seems like if they've voted you should know, but i'll keep my fingers (and toes) crossed for you!

KSUViolet06 10-05-2005 06:53 PM

We don't disclose the number of openings we have either. We also never told girls when we were doing membership selection. We did give them a set day by which they could expect to hear something (whether you get a bid or not, we still call and let you know something).

I can totally understand that-- it's really none of our business how many girls the chapter is going to take and when they're going to be voting on it, after all-- but I think it would have been nice to get a general time frame ("We'll call you by next Friday" or "We'll let you know by Sunday"), because a lot of us have never done this before and don't really know what to expect. I know that I personally have been really jittery ever since going to the event-- constantly checking my email and phone to see if they've contacted me for the last five days. Soo...hopefully I'll hear something in the next few days...

BetteDavisEyes 10-06-2005 02:16 PM

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you sweetie. I hope that everything turns out for the best.

honeychile 10-06-2005 09:08 PM

Whatever the case - keep busy!! Remember, a watched phone never rings.

Become even more interesting than you are - volunteer for something, study something not on your syllabus, join an organization that has intrigued you, offer to be a tutor - anything to keep your mind off of "the magic email"!!!

As said so many times before, sorority is not the end all, be all - it's wonderful & fulfilling, but so are many other activities. When I went to school, rush didn't start until the end of the first term, so I got involved with an organization that was one of the best things I ever did for myself - and built up my confidence, bid or no bid. Hope you find the same thing!

mmcat 10-06-2005 10:17 PM

ditto...ditto...ditto...move forward and don' t let the present situation stop you.
cheers
lol
