No one is saying that a person in their forties can't genuinely be in love or feel giddy. We're saying that Tom Cruise can't. :p

ZTAngel 06-14-2005 10:08 AM

I wonder what Chris Klein thinks of all this....

polarpink 06-14-2005 10:31 AM

I used to think Chris Klein was pretty hot in the American Pie movies and Election, but then, he started making dumb movies, and eh....

It's funny how quickly someone can fall after they make some bad choices.

I caught this interesting little paragraph (read carefully, especially the last line):

Last month, Cruise sent eyebrows skyrocketing with his now infamous appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show, during which he bounded around the stage, springing on and off furniture, before sinking to the floor to declare his rapturous admiration for Cruise.

in this article

Simple mistake, or astute observation? :D

HEHEHEHE one of my friends and I have always said, he's not gay as people have speculated, but really just in love with himself.

Xylochick216 06-17-2005 06:05 AM

He proposed under the Eiffel tower. Supposedly her ring is "oversized" according to the AP (my producer just told me this came over the wires).

Tom Cruise Proposes to Katie Holmes By SOPHIE NICHOLSON, Associated Press Writer
11 minutes ago

PARIS - Actor Tom Cruise said he and girlfriend Katie Holmes are engaged, after he popped the question early Friday morning atop the Eiffel Tower.

Cruise, speaking at a Paris news conference with Holmes, said: "Yes, I proposed to her."

The couple often shared smiles and blushes as Cruise turned to look at her, with a massive diamond ring on her finger.

"It was early this morning at the Eiffel Tower, so I haven't slept at all," he said. "Today is a magnificent day for me, I'm engaged to a magnificent woman."

Asked why he chose the famed Paris landmark, he said: "I've never been to the Eiffel Tower. It's Paris, it's a beautiful city, it's very romantic."

Cruise said no date for a wedding has been set: "We haven't discussed that — one step at a time," he said. "Let's see. We're not sure."

Cruise, 42, was in Paris to promote the French release of the Steven Spielberg film "War of the Worlds" next month. He and 26-year-old Holmes went public with their romantic relationship in April.

Holmes did not speak to reporters, but at one point, Cruise whispered to her: "Are you OK?" Afterward, the two hurried into a car before leaving for a promotional event in Marseilles, southern France.

I was reading in the paper this morning the Tom has hired a female minder to follow Katie around where ever she goes.

That seems a little odd to me.

Further proof that Tom has lost his mind.

WCUgirl 06-17-2005 08:50 AM

I saw that yesterday. She's supposed to be a Scientology advisor or something.

They're "best friends."

Here's a link.

moe.ron 06-17-2005 09:03 AM

Won't be suprised if those two will no longer be a "couple" after their respective movies are no longer in the circuit. Brilliant publicity stunt.

WCUgirl 06-17-2005 09:12 AM

Will she get to keep the ring after all this is over? It's the least she should get. Unless, of course, it's a loaner, like they have for the awards ceremonies.

I can see it now. Their engagement ends b/c she realizes it all just happened so fast, she got caught up in the excitement of it all, and she was in love with the idea of Tom Cruise being in love w/ her, etc. Perhaps their engagement won't end immediately, they'll take a break first.

Or perhaps they'll admit it's all a sham. :) I won't hold my breath.

It seems that engagement is the new thing to do in Hollywood.

chideltjen 06-17-2005 09:12 AM

Yahoo needs to work on coordinating their news stories.

Katie denies rumors of engagement in Rome.

Whether this article was done before or after Paris beats me, but they are both on Yahoo at the same time.

Defamer actually reported yesterday afternoon that there was a rumor going around they got engaged in Rome, so Katie's denial may be abou that.

Perhaps. Now that I've check Yahoo again, the article seems to have disappeared.

TheEpitome1920 06-17-2005 10:07 AM

I saw an article on CNN.com saying that they got engaged in Paris.

It was all over the Today show this morning. He proposed at the Effiel Tower. And she has a huge tear drop shaped diamond on her finger.

mu_agd 06-17-2005 10:30 AM

Someone on TWoP posted a picture of the ring. I didn't really like it.

eta: here it is

BetteDavisEyes 06-17-2005 10:47 AM

Good for them. Even the obnoxious deserve some happiness.

That looks like a man's hand, or someone who needs lotion.

It looks like costume jewelry.

Cosign.

It's not my taste so I think it's ugly, but if she likes, more power to her.

sigirl 06-17-2005 11:31 AM

I think its ugly too.

Interesting article on Radar this morning:

http://www.radaronline.com/fresh-int...#report_001291

He is such a stalker.

Lady Pi Phi 06-17-2005 12:21 PM

...and this is what happens when someone has too much time on their hands. They create crazy religions and get celebrities (who also have too much time on their hands) to join.

I mean come on! How can one possibly consider scientology a religion. L. Ron Hubbard even said so himself, that the best way to make money is to start a religion. Hubbard was after money!!!

It's celebrities like him that make me glad I'm and average Joe Schmoe who no one cares about.

Schmeer 06-17-2005 12:28 PM

haha...yeah, even if it is ugly, i wouldn't turn down that rock! I'd probably resize it and change the setting ;)

MaMaBuddha 06-17-2005 12:36 PM

yo.

this relationship is so fake.

Katie is a coverup for Tom's DL shenanigans.

Rudey 06-17-2005 12:44 PM

I decided to provide a word from urbandictionary.com for the ladies in this thread to read up on:

My friend Angela uses that word all the time... so funny.

I was listening to the radio and they were talking about how Tom had invited Katies' parents to stay at his mansion in Cali, but they thought it was inappropriate and stayed at the Bel Air hotel instead and Katies stayed with them. I don't know when this was, just caught the tail end of it

DeeGeePrincess 06-17-2005 08:42 PM

Im so digusted how theyre just flaunting their FAKE relationship all over the media!!!

and NOW THE ENGAGEMENT! that's the ultimate LOW for both!!!

I totally loved Katie starting from her Dawson Days. Tom's like raping her image and career!! She's his lil puppet and when he's done her he'll just let her rott in the corner all ALONE!

maybe katie likes him and is just too naive and blinded by his stardom!

my 2 cents.

p.s. chris kline needs to come back and claim back his women in a celebrity match with tom! hands down chris will shut up tom! HAHA.

Peaches-n-Cream 06-17-2005 11:01 PM

You guys are so mean! How can you be so critical of a man who is so sincerely in love with his magnificent beard, I mean fiancée?! :p

I really love MaMaBuddha's use of both DL and shenanigans in the same sentence!

I think that my engagement ring is nicer than Katie's. ;)

ASUADPi 06-17-2005 11:21 PM

the ring is gaudy beyond belief.

i think the whole thing is a publicity stunt.

i just find it hard to believe that two people who have been HISTORICALLY picky about putting their relationships INTO THE LIMELIGHT, WILLINGLY did it this time. (come on tom sued a tabloid because it said something negative about his and nicoles relationship).

i too have a feeling that once both of their movies open we will be reading 'tom and katie end their engagement'.

kddani 06-17-2005 11:34 PM

Katie's not exactly innocent here. She's a 26 year old grown woman, not some 18 year old starlet who was just in HS gym class yesterday. If she's dumb enough to let herself be taken advantage of like this, I can't feel too sorry for her. Plus she's getting a hell of a lot of publicity. She'd kinda fallen off the radar, no one really cared about what she was doing until this happened

ASUADPi 06-17-2005 11:47 PM

The stupid thing is, at least for me, this "relationship" doesn't make me want to see their movies anymore than I already did. Based purely on the previews is the reason I wanted to see War of the Worlds and Batman Begins. Had nothing to do with them. Plus with Batman, hello I'M NOT seeing the movie for her, Christian Bale baby!!!!!

As for Tom Cruise, he has lost all appeal to me, so he really isn't the reason to see the movie. I'm all about Steven Spielberg, because he rocks!!!! (plus, he's an AZ native and his wife is a sister. lol)

I agree. I wanted to see the movies before, but it certainly wasn't because those 2 were in them. I feel bad for Christian Bale because Katie is getting all the publicity...hello it's Christian who's playing BATMAN!!!

If anything, I think all this publicity could be harmful to the movies. Look at what happened with Russell Crow and "Cinderella Man".

Magnificent Beard would be a cool name for a band.

And yes, that ring is fugly.

One thing I have learned that has shocked me is the fact that Katie (oh pardon me "Kate") is tall. Every time I've seen a pic of her she looked like she would be 5'2" and 98 lbs.

WCUgirl 06-18-2005 01:44 PM

Yes, but, I'm sure standing next to Tom makes her look taller than she really is. :)
