The reply I get about 70% of the time after telling someone my name (Karen): "Oh, that's my mom's name!"

My aunt's name is Valerie Rae. I always thought it was a pretty name. :)

My parents actually chose it because my grandfather's name was Ray, but apparently it's pretty popular where I'm from because two of my best friends from high school had Rae as their middle name, too! :p

One of my friends from high school had the middle name Rae. During our junior year, we had to take chemistry and the teacher liked to shorten everyone's name down to one syllable. So she called my friend Al instead of Allison, and then we joked that if my friend went by Al Rae, she could become a country-western singer.

Oh my goodness, that's the story of my sister's life too. LOL Her name is "Krystyna" - that's the Polish spelling of Christina. Oh sure, she could get Christina, Kristina, Chrystina, etc....but never *her* name. Never. Not once.

Then, in 2003, I went to Poland to visit my family. Before leaving, I went on a side trip to Warsaw to do some sight-seeing. I was browsing along a marketplace when I saw that one seller had a table full of glass coffee mugs with names and their meanings in Polish on them. Eureka! I found one with "Krystyna" on it!! I was worried that it might break on the trip home, but it made the trip in one piece. When Christmas rolled around, I made sure to keep it aside so that it was the very last present she opened. I even videotaped the big moment. When she saw what it was, she started screaming with delight at the idea of having her very own store-bought item that *didn't* have to be customized! LOL I feel for all of you who have unique names....but almost *too* unique.

I absolutely love the name Jordan. I've always thought of it as a girls' name because the first time I'd come across it was the character Jordan Baker in The Great Gatsby. So when I started meeting guys named Jordan, I was like :confused: :confused:
