I'm sorry...I really am!! I still haven't heard back from the AI coordinator, confirming whether or not the initiation date I proposed (May 7th) will work for the collegiate chapter.

I'm going to follow up with an e-mail tomorrow if I haven't heard something by then. I need to know if I can put this on my calendar and plan around it. I feel I have to tread carefully so they don't wonder who invited The Nag to membership!!

I'll have to see if the check I sent last week has cleared yet. If they've cashed the check, that's a good sign, right?

:p

pinkyphimu 03-28-2005 09:55 PM

if the check clears...then i think it is a done deal. still keeping my fingers crossed that we get to hear who it is soon....

Jill1228 03-29-2005 05:34 AM

Watching Lake hit refresh on her online banking screen...

Yeah if the check clears, you can start hollering the name from the rooftops! I will loosen the bamboo shoots under your nails when the check clears...

Now time to get the vise grips for more torture! :D

lake 03-29-2005 03:29 PM

Another Update

They still haven't cashed the check, I'm assuming that will happen anytime now.

In response to my e-mail inquiry regarding my proposed initiation date:

"No word yet. I will let you know as soon as I hear"

I'm sad!! I thought the hard part was over!!
:( :( :(

ms_gwyn 03-29-2005 04:01 PM

Lake

I can tell you....THIS is the hard part....but it sounds like (and you know ) that this will happen.

Be secure in that fact and you will become a part of a FABULOUS SISTERHOOD!

I know you want to be initiated tomorrow....just remember how long you've waited and now in only a few weeks time...YOU WILL BE A SISTER....keep that thought

:)

and if you need to talk more feel free to pm me.

May not be a good assumption. Our IH seems to take FOREVER to cash checks......

mini-hijack to answer question:

No, that is incorrect information.

This is directly from Alumni Initiation the thread is titled; "NPC Alumna Initiation Advice"

Alpha Delta Pi - Yes. However, "Alpha Delta Pi alumnae initiates are those who have been approached by an an authorized party of Alpha Delta Pi. ADPi prefers to seek out its own candidates, rather than be approached by PNAMs. Members of ADPi are encouraged to contact Executive Office for AI program details."

My apologies - I knew there was some stipulation on AI.

Something makes me think it isn't ADPi, though.

I totally understand.

I just looked at the clues and took a guess. I mean the way I interpretted the clues is probably completely different than the way someone else might interpret the clues. :)

I could be totally wrong on my guess too.

tinydancer 03-30-2005 04:14 PM

For some reason, I'm thinking Phi Mu here as well. I must figure it's their turn (seriously - it's a wonderful group!)

I guessed Phi Mu earlier, but then she said, "Clue #4: My new group has three Greek letters in its name, not two ". So, Phi Mu can't be the one. :(

.....Kelly :)

tinydancer 03-30-2005 05:04 PM

Oops, my mistake! I got mixed up as to who said that.:o

CougADPi 03-30-2005 08:23 PM

I think its ADPi (and not because I am biased!). Most of the clues are easy enough to interpret to ADPi:

One AI so far
Three letters
Not a "specific shape" pin
Founded in the 19th century
Already mentioned

The St. Patricks Day one is the catch. I think it works because of the McDonalds Shamrock Shakes. I remember during recruitment the PNMs would watch a movie about the Ronald McDonald House while working on the philanthropy project. The part that stands out the most was that the proceeds from Shamrock Shakes used to be (maybe still are) donated to the Ronald McDonald House. I'm not sure Lake would have seen this movie (probably not :) ) but she may have known the connection. Just a thought...the Claddagh hands is a good reason as well. So my guess is ADPi!!

hunnie843 03-30-2005 08:30 PM

Ok, I don't think it's ADPi because of the clue about the specific shaped pin. I think a diamond is a pretty specific shape. I'm thinking it's someone like Chi Omega (I know it's not them) who has a pin with their letters stacked or something.

Not sure if that is a very good description but hopefully it makes sense.

Okay I' totally biased for ADPi ;) but the way I took "specific shape" was this...

DG their badge is an anchor (specific)
Kappa their badge is a key (specific)
Tri Delt, crescent moon w/stars

yes we have a diamond but KD's badge looks a little like a diamond (long ways).

in reality a lot of badges would be considered "specific". us, diamond. DPhiE, triangle (kind of), Gamma Phi circle (again kind of), Phi sig, sigma kappa, tri sig all triangles.

I think that is what is so fun about this b/c people take the clues each a different way and come up with our guesses.

Now if only we knew if we were right or not in our guesses. :)

hunnie843 03-31-2005 10:02 AM

I know! It's like everytime I read the clues I think of them differently!

So, ASUADPi, you took "specific" to mean like, unique to that organization right?

Hadn't thought of it that way...

Hmmm...

*Off to analyze some more...*

Yeah. I also took it to mean like "really" specific. If that makes sense. Like I think our diamond is specific (because it's a specific shape) but Kappa's key is a specific "object". I don't think I'm making sense. I've decided that it's kind of hard to "say" why you thought the way you did. :)

It's so much fun trying to guess. he he.

THat's how I would think of "specific".. like the Kappa key, the Delta Zeta lamp, the AXiD quill and other pins that look like specific objects.

While the diamond is ADPi's symbol, KD's pin is a long-shaped diamond as well. And the Sigma Kappa pin is a triangle shape just like DPhiE's (except DPhiE's has a scroll @ the bottom).

I'm still debating with myself whether I would consider the stacked letter pins to be specific... I guess I could see how they are specific in that they very readily symbolize the specific org. (like AGD or ChiO), on the other hand there are several NPC groups that use the stacked letters.

Maybe she meant "specific" as in there is always something specific in the stacked letter pins? Like all the AOII pin's I have seen are stacked letters, but they have the garnet (or ruby?) at the top of the A.

I guess specific can have so many meanings!

Time for a new clue :p

That's a ruby :)

I have no idea who to guess, other than it's not DZ, SK, Phi Mu, KD, Alpha Phi or DG...I hope that's all of the "two Greek letter" sororities?

You forgot Chi O......:)

It's also not us since we have many more than one AI.....

I took "specific" to mean it's not a recognized shape like a kite or key (or arrow or those things).

I'd say ADPi is looking like a good guess.

Another update and another clue

Yesterday I received in the mail a letter acknowledging my acceptance of an invitation to membership and payment for the necessary fees. I also received a copy of a CD-ROM filled with all sorts of info about my new GLO.

Although most of the info in the CD was already familiar to me (as I've been studying my GLO for the past five years!) there were some items in it that absolutely gave me the chills (in a good way). For example, there were explanations as to how the founder(s) chose some of the symbols for the group and why, and those reasons parallel so closely to some aspects in my own life it's almost eerie!! Friends, I have truly come home and I feel some part of me is now complete!! Thank you for letting me share this happy time with you!! :D

The AI coordinator also forwarded an e-mail to me yesterday from the collegiate chapter they're making initiation arrangements with. In a nutshell, things ARE happening behind the scenes, although of course not as quickly as I want them to!! I expect to hear from someone from the collegiate chapter anytime now about an actual date.

I'm pretty sure it's a line from a poem, but I don't remember what it's called nor do I remember who wrote it!

AGDee 04-01-2005 11:28 PM

A Google of the phrase brings up:

Song called As Darkness Reigns by Oracle

Preambles to the Queen from Australia

Didn't help me a bit!

Dee

blueangel 04-01-2005 11:41 PM

The land: pine tree, pansey
The sea: dolphin, pearl
The sky: crescent and stars

I would guess Tri Delta because this, and the fact there is only one other AI from DDD, except for the fact she said the badge was no specific shape-- and the crescent and stars is. Hmmmmmmm.....? :)

Taualumna 04-02-2005 01:06 AM

Alpha Delta Pi's colours are pale blue and white.....the sky and clouds.

ADPi's mascot is the lion, a land animal.

Ummm...water is also blue???

Actually, it IS a line from a poem - one which I wrote about how much I love my GLO. See if you can finally guess which one it is based on the poem(s) below, keeping in mind that ALL previous clues still apply (I'm so bad...!!) :p

Is it...?

ODE TO ALPHA DELTA PI
The land, the sea, the sky,
none of these can ever contain
my love for Alpha Delta Pi.

...or is it...?

ODE TO PI BETA PHI
Over the land, over the sea, in the sky
my arrow is guided by the ideals
of Pi Beta Phi

...or could it be...?

ODE TO TRI DELTA
On the land, on the sea, in the sky,
wherever I am
I am a Delta Tri

...or maybe...?

ODE TO GAMMA PHI BETA
The land, the sea, the sky,
the fairest of these at which I sigh
cannot compare to the fairest of thee
O lovely Gamma Phi!

...but then again it could be...?

ODE TO ALPHA OMICRON PI
The land, the sea, the sky
A beautiful ruby, rose or pearl
though none is better
than an AOPi girl (sorry...er...woman) :)

...but I'm thinking it might be...?

ODE TO THETA PHI ALPHA
Land of white rose loyalty
sapphire blue in sea and sky
Sisters, I am going home!
Home to Theta Phi!

As you can tell, I'm starting to crack from the pressure of sitting on this secret for so long, and have started to speak in crazy rhymes. It's been two weeks since I found out I've been accepted as a sister, and I never dreamed it would take so long to be able to have an initiation date to share with you!!

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the poetry. :p

Clues

First Clue:
I mentioned earlier that I'm only aware of one other AI mentioned for this group so far in this forum. Yes, I was looking at the AI roll call when I said I was only aware of one other AI for that group.

Second Clue (this one's lame, I admit, I'll do better for the next clue):
It's sort of ironic that I found out I'll be able to pledge my lifelong loyalty to this house on or around St. Patrick's Day.

Clue 2 1/2: My future home is not D Phi E, unfortunately. I had no idea they were founded on St. Patrick's Day when I threw out that hint. That's so ironic!! I'm sure D Phi E is a fantastic group.

Clue #3: Their badge is NOT a specific symbol, such as an anchor or a key.

Clue #4: My new group has three Greek letters in its name, not two.

Clue #5: This organization was founded in the 19th century.

FINAL CLUE: The identity of my new home has been correctly guessed during the course of this thread.

SECOND FINAL CLUE: The land, the sea, the sky.

1: ADP, AGD, DDD, DFE, FM, SK
2: The only thing I can think of- Lake said on or around St. Patty's Day which is March 17th. March 14th (3/14) is "Pi Day" which would relate to ADPi. Otherwise you have the color gold for Tri-Delt. Lake DID say this particular clue was lame! (Threw out the other orgs cause they get eliminated with the later clues.)
3: Specific to that org? Diamond is not exclusive to ADPi. However, I'm interpreting this to mean A specific symbol- as in one. Tri-Delt has both the crescent moon and stars for it's badge.
4: Still leaves ADPi and Tri-Delt.
5: Yup- both still in it.
FC: Both have been guessed.
SFC: Have to go with Tri-Delt here. I can't think of anything that relates to the sea for ADPi.

So I'm going with DDD
Lake- please explain the whole St. Patrick's Day thing!
AND TELL US WHO IT IS!!!!!!!!

Now I'm going to be wishy washy! Knowing that the Second Final Clue is a poem of Lake's own composition I'll have to change my guess to ADP! Personally, I like the ADPi poem better, I AM an ADPI and with Lake's poem, now I have something from the sea to apply to ADPi!

Lake- you're killing me here!

Clue #2 has nothing to do directly with St. Patrick's Day (the holiday). It has nothing to do with the date March 17 and the org wasn't founded during the month of March.

Go back and read clue #2 slowly, word by word, then think of all the possible insignia including symbols, colors, mottos, mascots, etc. available in any organization and that might help clear things up a bit.

AOIIalum 04-02-2005 11:08 AM

Hmmm...I still think it's Delta Delta Delta with a possible nod to Theta Phi Alpha. I could be wrong though! The only thing I think I'm certain of is that it's not AOII :(

No matter who it is, here's hoping for a lifetime of active involvement and sisterhood for you with your new sorority, Lake.

ASUADPi 04-02-2005 11:49 AM

It's really hard for me not to be biased right now b/c the way I interpret the clues (as I posted earlier along in the thread) I came up with ADPi being the "choice".

Now with the poems, I still think it is ADPi.

I went and looked over the clues again and except for number two (where I just sat here for like ten minutes reading and re-reading it but I'm still no closer to understanding it) I'm "fairly" certain I "got it". LOL.

In all honestly I would LOVE it to be us but at this point I JUST WANNA KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, have to add my 2¢!

I really think it's either Delta Delta Delta (from trojangal's first post in congratulations to Lake), or Alpha Delta Pi.

Whichever it is, Lake, you've found a great home!! (Although I'm a bit biased...!)

TCV 04-02-2005 02:08 PM

I am 99.9% sure it is TriDelta...but then again that .01% kills me:)
