More fun stuff to play with in photo shop!!

BetteDavisEyes 03-26-2005 05:01 PM

I'll have to start trying this. I'm not generally that imaginative but what the heck. It's always fun to try something new.

Greek Banner Tutorial

I'll work on some more requests in a little bit (read: probably tomorrow).

Thanks for the tutorial! I tried to follow it, but got stuck on step 11. I'm using Photoshop 5.0, so I guess it's a little different...

When I double click on the layer name to try to add a shadow and bevel the edge, it doesn't come up with a menu where I can do that. (It just comes up with an option to rename the layer.) Anyone know how I get to the shadow-adding part?

WhiteDaisy: Thanks for making this banner for me! I'm so glad I PM'd you with my request...this banner is wonderful! Like RocketGirl said, all of our sisters LOVE it! :D

amandadyer 03-29-2005 02:22 PM

TigerLilly,

I also tried it with Photoshop 5.0 and got stuck in the same spot, with the same problem. I thought it was because I was using a demo version, but I guess not. If you figure out how to solve the problem, I'm love to hear it!

In case any of you are on Macs and care, the new version of Photoshop is coming out and is supposed to have a lot of new add-ins. I don't know how it works with Tiger but they leaked the press release early.

Ok, so here was my attempt. I had a lot of trouble getting the colours to display properly after adding special effects. :( Oh well, I guess it's ok for my first time trying to do some of this.

Just an FYI - I am on a Macintosh using Photoshop 5.5 and I had no trouble. Then again, I wasn't following the instructions word for word - I had to look in other menus to get to some of the items she talked about.

Thanks so much for the tutorial - WhiteDaisy128, you rock!

WhiteDaisy128 04-04-2005 12:51 AM

That looks fantastic! Great job!! I'm impressed!

FloridaTish 04-04-2005 11:46 AM

You did a great job on the GPhiB banner! It looks very nice...especially since it is the 1st time you ever did one! :)

Measi 04-05-2005 12:09 PM

I was going to request a Tau Beta Sigma one-- and then found it back a couple pages-- yay!

And thanks for the tips in Photoshop... I may have to play around with them and see what ones I can come up with.

Diamond4 04-08-2005 03:40 PM

Hey so I tiried out a banner...But I just want to know how you can make the background one of an object rather than just a color. Lets say I wanted to my the background a white lily or diamond or roses or tigers...how can I set that as the backdrop?

HELP!!

Ok, so someone posted a neat picture of a KD badge in Trojangal's AI thread. I liked it - it inspired me enough to become the subject of my next practice try at a banner. Now if only I could figure out how to add structure to my banners through the use of lines and color blocks. I guess I just don't have an eye for design like some of you all.

.....Kelly :)

kddani 04-12-2005 08:30 AM

Navane, that's very pretty. However, KD Policy (KD's, check the Norman Shield, p. 44 in the new edition) is that the badge may not be used on paper, letterhead of stationery or on clothing, and I think an internet banner may fall under those restrictions.

No way you would've known though ;)

Just wanted to point it out before any KDs used it

WhiteDaisy128 04-12-2005 12:04 PM

Ladies these all look awesome!! I'm so impressed! It's not all that hard once you get the basics, is it?

As for having a rose background or something, find a large picture of a rose (high quality and use the select or lasso tool to select the region you want to use as the background (can be larger than the banner image), then use the move tool to bring the selected portion over the banner image - move it around until it looks right.

Nice banner. The lines and color blocks come from just playing around with photoshop and determining what works among the graphic elements.

Your banners are incredible!! Thanks.

blueangel 05-27-2005 06:29 AM

These are just gorgeous! And while you say that it's not that hard, it does take quite an artistic eye to make them look so beautiful! Great job, I'm impressed!

Wow! I was just about to ask if you can do an SAO banner, but that is perfect!!! Thank you so much WhiteDaisy!!!

jadis96 06-01-2005 12:20 AM

while this isn't that hard to do, it IS hard to make them look that artistic and beautiful... I went ahead adn linked to my pitiful attempts at tri sigma banners, but really I am blown away by how great the ones that WhiteDaisy128 made are.

Thank You so much. I really appreciate it. I'm going to try and email her. We have already scetched something, but we were just wondering what exactly she does, in order to get the actual banner.

Thanks for your time. It was very much appreciated.

WhiteDaisy128 08-10-2005 10:35 PM

I should have guessed that this got brought back up to the top...guys, I've had soooo many requests via PM...and I'm an elementary school teacher that is three weeks deep in the school year and just swamped. You'll have to wait a while for any requests...there are many other talented GCers who can use photoshop...try it out, see what you can do. I just am way to busy right now. Sorry if that sounds mean, but after like 15 PMs, I'm getting frustrated.

DGMarie 08-10-2005 11:46 PM

The instructions that were given for making the Photoshop banners is really easy to follow. I would suggest you give it a try since WhiteDaisy is so swamped. Play around with it. It is fun.

JohnsDGsweethrt 08-11-2005 06:27 AM

I just want to give CJ props for making all these wonderful banners! She is so talented and I'm so proud to call her my sister!

THANKS CJ!!!
