I voted 3 times!!

trojangal 03-18-2005 08:23 AM

have family members who have voted for you :)

I sent you a pm...I think this might help

_Lisa_ 03-18-2005 10:54 AM

We'll just keep voting & asking people to vote. I've mentioned this contest a few times in my live journal asking for help from friends & I'll see if I can get some buddies from work to help vote too.

BetteDavisEyes 03-18-2005 11:22 AM

I used the e-mails addresses of 3 of my sisters, my fiance, & his brother. Michael is now up by 107 votes! I'll go through my entire directory w/all my e-mail addresses later tonight!

agdbirmingham 03-18-2005 11:24 AM

Thanks everyone for all your support! I guess I just needed to vent a little. It just frustrates me that you try to do something nice for someone, and then you realize how ridiculous the whole voting process is. It's just crazy that they make the finalists all fight it out. Maybe I am a little naive.

My husband and I had a long talk about this late last night, and we're just going to lay low for the next week, week and a half, then the last few days of the contest is when I think the votes are really going to be important. The last day or two I think are going to be crazy!!!!

Ok, I'm done venting. Thanks for listening and for all your support!!! You all have been so wonderful!! I think I'm going to turn the computer off for the weekend. That may help me get back to reality!!

Have a GREAT weekend everyone!!!

Oooooh...good idea! I'll do it too for my friends to see.

ambición6 03-18-2005 06:18 PM

The trick is to opt out of spam and just type in email addresses galore.

ex. ambicion6@whatever.com
then hit the back button and go ambicion7@whatever.com
and so forth til you get tired.

i did this like 30 times. so I m bored at work and im gonna keep doing this cuz I want your hubby to win and cuz the other lady whos in the running is fugly.

and you after submitting the first "real" email you dont get a confirmation or anything so it's not like theyre checking emails. just make sure to opt-out !!! or you will get spammed!!!

BetteDavisEyes 03-20-2005 07:03 PM

Let's keep voting people! That lady is catching up.

DolphinChicaDDD 03-20-2005 08:36 PM

in addition to my livejournal, i'll add it to myspace- my new fav addiction

mmcat 03-20-2005 09:18 PM

got you a few more times.

agdbirmingham 03-21-2005 04:58 PM

Thanks everyone! I had to take a few days off from the computer. I think I'm just about blind!!

It's ok if other people are ahead right now. We still have about 10 days left. It actually may be better if others are ahead and get overly confident so we can sneak up on them the last day or two!! We still have lots of ideas for the last few days next week. So keep your fingers crossed for us! And thanks again for asking all your friends to vote for us!

Thats what I've been planning to do! A few friends have all given me permission to use their email addresses because I want to save them for the last couple days. I've got about 50 here.

agdbirmingham 03-22-2005 06:11 PM

A little over a week to go....We're still about 250 votes ahead! We're just hoping to maintain a small lead or just stay in the running at this point until the last day.

Keep your fingers crossed!

RhoSigma2003 03-22-2005 08:50 PM

7x's

Voted 7 times!!! Good Luck!

AGDLynn 03-22-2005 11:53 PM

Back in the ollldden days when Miller Beer sponsored recycling drives, they collected bags each week. We only gave them a few each week and then the last day ..really piled it on!!

ambición6 03-23-2005 12:08 PM

you almost feel bad for the Jason guy from Utah with only a 100 votes, until you remember that you want to win!
He must look at the numbers and feel like a loser. I would!

agdbirmingham 03-23-2005 03:27 PM

Yeah, we felt kind of bad for him too at first. I actually considered asking a few people to vote for him to make me feel better :)

BUT...He is probably sitting back and laughing at the rest of us. He may have some big macro or computer program all ready to go on the last day!! You got to admit, having only like 100 votes is a little suspicious like he's up to something!!

agdbirmingham 03-24-2005 10:29 PM

One more week! Yippee! We're almost to the finish line....

but unfortunately we're in second right now and behind by about 150+ votes. That's ok though, still lots of time!

As of a couple of minutes ago, you were ahead by 10 votes...I went to vote with an email that I just got yesterday, and it told me that "our records indicate that you've voted with this address" or some such thing - I think that'd be hard to do since I just got it yesterday because of the hotel having dial up connection only and we had to go get an AOL free trial disk :p

Oh, well - good luck! :)

winnieb 03-26-2005 04:52 AM

I voted with 2 more email addresses-- and emailed the link to about 20 Alpha Gams...I am sure they will forward it on as well!

I got the same message with a few emails I KNOW were brand new, lol. Maybe they are NOW using cookies.

AGDee 03-26-2005 09:43 AM

The message no longer says "one email address", now it says..

Online voting is limited to one vote per person, e-mail address or computer/IP address. Multiple votes will not be counted. Grand prize winner will be announced on Monday, April 4.

I haven't voted using my daughter's PC or my laptop, but they may all register as the same IP address. I haven't voted from work yet though.. there are about 130 computers I have access to there!

agdbirmingham 03-26-2005 11:32 AM

Hi everyone!

Well, as some of you have already noticed there have been some changes. We were hoping to get more details last night from them so I was holding off on posting, but we should know more on Monday.

To make a VERY long story short, my husband talked to them yesterday and they are now limiting voting to 1 per IP address (some of you may understand IP addresses better than I do). Sounds like that was the original plan but no one on their end noticed there were some problems with the website. I don't know if IP addresses are related to "cookies" so if anyone would like to teach us about "cookies" and "IP addresses" I apparently could use a little computer lesson. Might as well learn a little something through all of this :)

Anyhow.... they are supposed to be recalculating the score in the next few days last we heard. From what we understand this means all votes that came from one IP address will be eliminated. I think most computers have 1 IP address depending on how you connect to the internet. I know where my husband works all of their computers (thousands of them) have 1 IP address so no one else in his company can vote from work (which really stinks). But If you reconnect to the internet on other computers (like at home through dial-up/high speed) sometimes you get a different IP address so I'm not sure what this all means.

Hopefully we'll get more info on Monday and at least know when they're going to recalculate the scores! Thanks again everyone!

Have a great weekend!

FirstAndFinest 03-26-2005 11:36 AM

WOW - that's too bad about the 1 vote per IP! (Now I don't feel as bad about having only one address!!!)

I sent the link to about 20 co-workers yesterday and asked that they forward to their friends. Today I'm going to forward it to my personal email address-book!

Good luck!

SATX*APhi 03-26-2005 03:17 PM

I don't know much about IP addresses, but I am sure someone here will know the answer:

If I reset my cable connection (unplug and re-plug), won't I have a new IP address?

AGDee 03-26-2005 07:04 PM

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. The computer tries to get the same IP over again usually, but if that IP has been assigned to someone else in the meantime, then you'll get a new one. Dial-up users will almost always get a new IP with each connection.

Optimist Prime 03-27-2005 02:46 AM

Finalism is an outgrowth of racism. How can you be a finalist? Don't you know others are suffering?

AOII_LB93 03-27-2005 02:56 AM

Keep voting people, he's two votes behind!!

I have a feeling it might - I tried voting yesterday with that new email (on my laptop, which we'd taken on the trip with us and I used to vote the other times), and then I just tried voting on my mom's computer (same house, same cable modem, maybe same IP address???)

I tried, but I'm hoping there are others out there who'll see Michael's story and shoot him to the front! :)

_Lisa_ 03-27-2005 04:14 PM

The good part is if you use AOL you have the possibility of using several different IP addresses. Everytime you sign on you get a new IP address (but it tends to usually be a rotation of 3-5 addresses) but thats 3-5 chances to vote!

I don't use AOL but I can vote using some of the other desktop PC's I have access to at work!

agdbirmingham 03-28-2005 02:01 PM

Doesn't sound like they're going to be able to recalculate the scores until the contest is actually over on Thursday! Not sure if that's good or bad, but hoping that's good!! They're still just taking one vote per IP address and I'm still trying to understand all this IP address stuff, maybe I'll start a new thread...

_Lisa_ 03-28-2005 03:22 PM

I just know that when I had AOL we had a small pool of IP addresses that we were assigned when we signed online. Most often it would be one of the same 3-5 IP addresses. Now that I've got broadband its pretty much always the same IP address. I wish I could help more!

AGDee 03-28-2005 04:01 PM

I voted from my mom's house yesterday as her. I also voted as a co-worker here at work today. My kids said maybe I can vote from their dad's computer too :)

lifesaver 03-28-2005 05:31 PM

Nancy's goin down. lol.

Unregistered- 03-28-2005 05:42 PM

I was able to vote multiple times just now without a problem.

sdblonde07 03-28-2005 05:51 PM

Yeah, yesterday I could only vote once but I just voted for you like 5x! Michael just went up to 41% when I voted!!:)

agdbirmingham 03-28-2005 07:15 PM

They must have changed the system back. We haven't heard back from them this afternoon and just got a few emails from friends saying that it was allowing multiple votes again. This is crazy!!!!

The bad news is that from what it sounded like they will still delete multiple IP address votes after the contest is over. So that means we may not really be in the lead, we have no way of knowing! UGH!!

AGDLynn 03-28-2005 09:42 PM

Can you say Florida?;)
