Spears, 23, announced on her Web site that she and husband Kevin Federline are expecting their first child.

Spears had expressed an interest in having children, and magazines have been speculating on her expanding waistline. While it would be the first child for Spears, her husband, Kevin Federline, is already father to two children with his ex-girlfriend, Shar Jackson.

The following message was posted on Britney's official Web site:

Dear fans,

The time has finally come to share our wonderful news that we are expecting our first child together. There are reports that I was in the hospital this weekend. Kevin and I just want everyone to know that all is well. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

In an earlier interview with People magazine, Spears discussed her desire to start a family. After she and Federline, 27, were married on Sept. 18, 2004, in a ceremony at a private home in Studio City, Calif., Spears said: "I want to be a young mom. I can see us as parents."

Just before Thanksgiving last year, Spears posted a letter to fans talking about her desires to take a break from music and focus on motherhood.

"I've had a career since I was 16, have traveled around the world and back, and even kissed Madonna! The only thing I haven't done so far is experience the closest thing to God, and that's having a baby. I can't wait!" she wrote.

I think it's pretty funny how everyone was saying she was preggers and noticed she gained a lot of weight and she denied it.. and then she had everyone with the 'why is someone automatically pregnant if they gain weight' getting started, and then like a week later confirms she is pregnant.

God help Baby Spears.. he or she is going to live in one messed up family.

at least now that they have another addition on the way they can finally upgrade to the double-wide they've always wanted :p

I have to say that before I knew she was pregnant I was unsure on how I"d feel. But I"m really excited!! I can't wait to see what they name baby Spears. :) That baby will have so much love and family around it!

I"m just hoping she doesn't name it something stupid like Gwen Paltrow did. Yuck!

Oh and I think that Demi Moore type picture thing is just a rumor. That picture was ugly the first time, no remake pictures ever need to be copied.

The New York Daily News' Lloyd Grove reports today in his "Lowdown" column that Spears just learned she is carrying twins -- and that she's already begun reigning in the spending habits of her husband Kevin Federline to prepare for the added expense.

The report was not confirmed by Spears' rep.

Spears and Federline most recently starred in the UPN reality show, "Britney and Kevin: Chaotic." The six-episode series featured pre-pregnancy home videos of the couple's dating, engagement and wedding.

I had a feeling something like this would happen sooner or later.

The pop star and husband Kevin Federline are struggling to fund their celebrity lifestyle and the recent $7 million purchase of and renovations on a new Malibu, Calif., house, because neither is working -- Spears rested her mike after conceiving the couple's first child, and dancer Federline hasn't worked for over a year.

According to New York Post columnist Cindy Adams, the panicking pop princess wants to release another money-making disc.

Adams reports, "Mrs. Federline recently made a quiet call to her record label. The gist of the discussion: We've got to get money in the house. Cash flow is going down. How about we cut another album?"

To me it's disgusting because she's Britney and 9 times out of 10 looks trashy. I've seen pregnant women expose their bellies and look 10 times better then her.

I feel that being very exposed is not in good taste....but a gentle thought to this comment on stretch marks...Stretch marks come with pregnancy, weight lose/gain, and sometimes age. They are a natural mark and should not be degraded as unflattering. Granted, I would not choose to walk around town in an outfit that showed my stretch marks with pride, but I do not feel that they make me "disgusting" either...

Will y'all RELAX, I was just joking about the fact that she managed to not get stretch marks (something millions of women would die for). It was a joke, I didn't mean to start a whole new thread over it, don't take that one seriously :).

I think it's disturbing because she doesn't even look good. I don't know why we tend to think pregnant women should be more "modest" in their dress, but really we do. So to see her showing off her belly offends some people, ESPECIALLY since the outfit isn't tasteful, regardless.

It doesn't bother me! She's still early in her pregnancy, although she's reportedly carrying twins, she's pretty big already. The stretch marks WILL come. I didn't get any until two weeks before I delivered! Life can be very cruel! LOL!

I had a horrible dream about Britney last night. She gave birth to twins, but one did not make it . She may be getting on my nerves and I may find her somewhat tacky, but I don't wish that upon her. :(
