I think this is called belaboring the point...

This is "JR" (Just Right), THE Champion Bichon Frise. They didn't post the BEST photo - when JR won, he jumped right into the trophy, and peeked out soooo cute!

The Eukanuba Show, Best In Show

The Westminster, Best In Show
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/n...BIS_normal.jpg

I'm not wild about the show cut, though - Buffy's is more of a puppy cut. JR's son won the Bichon Frise & Non-Sporting Classes at this year's Championship!

<--------- too into dog shows!!

ETA: I promise this is the last one (for now!)! This is when JR won the Westminster, one of his 98 BIS wins!

Schnauzers are sooooo great. They are very smart and great with kids! I love my salt and pepper Standard (Silver)!!

Here's a link to a photo gallery of the Standards (I am working late in the lab and don't have access to my comp's photo album!

This is my mom's carin terrier, Jolie, right after she got her about a year ago. She's grown a bit since then though, and gotten a little redder... I adore her, though she isn't much of a lap dog:p

Does anyone like whippets? A friend of mine has one and I think they're so funny looking with their long pointy muzzles! The dog is so sweet though, and seems very docile.

UKTriDelt 11-13-2005 12:53 PM

I love all big dogs, and I can't seem to pick a favorite. So I've come to the decision that when I'm older and established, I'm going to have somewhat of a herd of big dogs.

Top of my list, because I've grown up around them, is the German Shepherd:
http://www.1stopfordogs.com/images/d...alexmonth5.jpg

Next is the Newfoundland:

And the Great Pyrenees:

Nothing can beat a good ol' Mutt, though :)

A Puganese is a mutt.

I know, it's a crossbreed. They're so darn cute. I would never pay $800 for one, though. We got our Australian Cattle Dog from the Humane Society. She's gorgeous :)

As soon as I can remember my username and password to photobucket, I can post pictures...

My "child" is a VERY spoile English Bulldog. (He even sleeps under the covers with us.

I grew up with Saint Bernards.

Now my parents have mastiffs....The latest is Merlin. A 200+ pound dog who loves laps and gets bossed worund by Winston.

I'll post pictures soon!

I can't understand why people pay so much for mixed breed dogs.

I am all about rescue dogs, which are usually mutts. We have two: a Collie/Rottweiler mix and a Rhodesian Ridgeback/Boxer mix.

Me neither. Especially when you can usually find the exact same mix in an animal shelter and save a life instead of buying from a breeder.

I can't say I really have a favorite. Working in rescue and volunteering at the animal shelter I have come across so many cute cute dogs.

My 3 girls are a purebred Bichon (that we rescued!) She is 17 yrs old now:

A Border Terrier (possibly purebred) but she was rescued too and a Pit Bull mix who is my heart and soul. Here they are on the couch:

I typically like the so-called "bad" breeds: Boxers, AmStaffs, Rotties, Pibbles (Pit Bulls), Dobermans, GSDs, Akitas, et cetera.

A pit bull or pit bull mix will be the next addition. Maybe for Channukah?

ETA: I meant to say originally that both of my dogs were rescued on their last day. If I hadn't taken them home they wouldn't be alive. Why breed and buy, while so many good dogs die?

These are my babies: Belle Lee is the Ridgeback/Boxer mix (tan, with the shorter head) and Boomer Bug is the Collie/Rottweiler (obviously the one with the Rottie coloring and the Collie nose)

My mother's Bichon (Buffy) was rescued. He had been the sire in a puppy mill, and is officially "retired". He still donates to the ASPCA and Small Paws Rescue.

I can't believe how beautiful everyone's dogs are! Having been bitten in the face by a Doberman, I'm not very trusting of the larger dogs with bad reps, but they're still gorgeous!

HC, in our shop, we're more likely to be bitten by the cockers, shih tzus, lhasas, and poodles than any rottie, dobie, or boxer...

I will say that we dread pits and German shepards. We never know how they are going to react. Both me and my sis have been bitten by GSD clients. Most of our pits are wonderful. Although, we have had some pits who we "think" have been trained to fight. We had no proof, so there was nothing we could do but turn them away when they became vicious.

Point being, I worry more about dogs like Dalmations and Cockers WAY more than I worry about the "bad boy" breeds. :)

Me too. I got mauled when I was a kid, by a BEAGLE. People who know me from when I was little are all, why are you buying dogs that are vicious? It was a supposed "bad" breed that helped me learn to trust dogs again.

Standard poodles don't scare me, but mini poodles do along with most of the smaller breeds. I've only been bitten by smaller breeds, and never the "bad" ones.

It makes me so angry when people train dogs to be aggressive. It's not the dog's fault. Blame the owner, not the breed.

I believe it! I take partial responsibility for being bitten - I didn't know that the Dobie was sleep walking! I guess I'm saying that I can appreciate most dogs' beauty (except the slobbery ones - yuk!), but if I was going to own a dog, it will be a small one, especially a Bichon Frise! (I have allergies.)

UKTriDelt 11-14-2005 02:42 AM

Forgot to include a picture of our cutie. Her name is Frieda, and she has great bloodlines. We didn't get to pick the name... the people that bred and trained her as a protective dog named her.

My grandmother's german shepard tried to attack me when I was about 8...I've never been very fond of them since.

As far as big dogs go...I loooove huskies, they're gorgeous! I also like labs.

Sister Havana 11-14-2005 10:59 AM

Here in the Chicago area, breed banning has come up again because of a couple pit bull attacks in the area. I think breed banning is a horrible idea...although I do think there are some people who should be banned from owning dogs!

I have met several pit bulls at the dog parks where I've taken Barney or at Petsmart. All have been very sweet dogs. The meanest dogs I ever met? Pomeranians!

I have two (one just passed on). My mother has 4. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE pugs. There are a couple of pugs who may be coming up for adoption. They are the sweetest babies. But, their mom has a respiratory disease and is not supposed to be around them. I am really hoping I can talk the husband into letting me bring them home.

Pugs are the coolest lap dogs ever. They aren't meant to go walking or jogging with someone. They can't handle it. They also cannot handle cold or hot conditions very well. They are indoor dogs. That being said, THEY SHED EVERYWHERE. If you don't like having dog hair on your couch, clothes, etc. DON'T GET A PUG. :)

If you decide to get one, you will really enjoy it. They are, IMO, awesome!

AGDee 11-14-2005 11:58 AM

I never knew I'd come to love the breed, but my Sammigirl is so cuddly yet looks so majestic, so my pick is the Alaskan Malamute

If you decide to adopt a Pit Bull check out www.pbrc.net. It has great resources as well as profiles for Pits that are up for adoption. The next dog I add to my pack will be a male pit bull or american bulldog, but that will be in another couple years.

Oh, there are a bunch of pit bulls and pit mixes in the shelter that I work with, so I think I'll go local.

And your right, that site is a great one. It's on our lists of sites that we give people for further research.

I'm glad you like the "bully" breeds. Hopefully since you're in CO, you're helping with the protests against BSL?

BASSET HOUNDS! They have a wonderful, playful personality despite the sad face. Forrest is my baby, and even though he is seven now, I thoght I would post some of his baby pics.
