Katie Bailey, Miss Arkansas, is a member of Pi Beta Phi from Ole Miss.

NutBrnHair 12-11-2007 12:23 PM

Alyssa Anne George, Miss Kansas, is a Chi Omega from Lambda Chapter at the Univ. of Kansas. She was serving as Recruitment Chair for the chapter when she won her state title and had to give up her Exec. Board position two months before formal recruitment.

Good Luck, Alyssa!

Katie is a doll! I hope she does really well in the competition. She's really smart too!

There's one contestant that I know of (forgot which one) who is in med school at Vanderbilt and her platform is audiology. I was pretty impressed!

WOW!! I am so excited that she's from Sam!! And I'm really surprised that our school isn't as vocal about it. Other than prison break-outs, the most exciting thing is that Dan Rather went here.

But Chi Alpha isn't considered greek, they are just a Christian organization.

SthrnZeta 12-11-2007 03:35 PM

^^ I figured it was a GLO so it counted, lol.

Quote from the movie A Time To Kill: "2: So what brings you to Mississippi, Row Ark, slumming? 1: Law school at Ole' Miss, it's a family tradition, Mom was a sweet little sorority girl there till dad- till dad married her. 2:I married a sweet little sorority girl from Ole' Miss myself. 1: Well they, have an excellent selection."

Just had to throw this out there...

Sister Havana 12-11-2007 08:23 PM

Ashley Hatfield, Miss Illinois, is a Phi Mu from Ole Miss.

khfadpi 12-12-2007 01:11 AM

Miss North Carolina is an ADPi from UNC-Chapel Hill.

I thought so, but I wasn't sure if she won Miss North Carolina, or Miss North Carolina USA.

This is Jessica Jacobs, Miss North Carolina:

SthrnZeta 12-12-2007 09:53 AM

So...

Phi Mu (2)
Alpha Delta Pi (1)
Kappa Delta (1)
Pi Beta Phi (1)

Did I miss any so far?

Yes! Miss Kansas is a Chi Omega.

FSUZeta 12-12-2007 10:01 AM

miss florida, kylie williams, is an adpi from fl. state.

SthrnZeta 12-12-2007 10:03 AM

Nut, LOL, of course you'd catch that one ;)

Totals so far:

Kappa Delta (1) - Colorado
Phi Mu (2) - Georgia, Illinois
Alpha Delta Pi (2) - North Carolina, Florida
Pi Beta Phi (1) - Arkansas
Chi Omega (1) - Kansas

Interesting to note that both Phi Mus went to Ole Miss but neither are from Mississippi... How weird it must be for them both, sisters from the same chapter competing for Miss America!

I would imagine winning Miss Mississippi is a very tough state pageant -- sometimes it's easier to win the qualifying crown in a "lesser" state pageant! LOL (I'm laughing, but I'm sure there is a grain of truth in that.)

Oh...and I "caught" something else...the two Phi Mus are from different chapters. One from Ole Miss and one from Valdosta State. ;)

A couple of my friends from college competed in the Miss Illinois circut, where one of the Phi Mus is from. It's not a cakewalk, that's for sure. Chicago's got a ton of districts that all send candidates - sheer numbers make it hard to stand out.

I think they are called Pageant Hoppers. They hop from pageant to pageant in their state until they win a local title. I know one year at Ole Miss when a non-Mississippian won Miss University there was some big uproar. But she really was the best contestant that year, even if she was an out-of-state student from Tennessee!

Having a sorority sister in the pageant system - although she's in med school now, I haven't checked up on her lately - she's been qualified to compete in Missouri and Illinois and would do so in both until she won a local one. It is apparently very common.

ETA: Alphafrog's right, my sister found Missouri easier than Illinois, at least at the local/regional levels.

I'm sure that is true -- I've heard Oklahoma is a tough win too.

Benzgirl 12-12-2007 11:25 AM

Here is a bit of trivia:
Ohio representatives have won the Miss America Pageant six times, joining California and Oklahoma as the only states with six crowns, and is the only state to have a contestant who won Miss America twice.

I have never heard of this before!!! Seems a little shady and unfair to me.

Miss Oklahoma is a Pi Beta Phi at OU.

(and even though we aren't counting, Miss New Jersey is a member of a local called Tau Kappa Sigma)

Just out of curiosity, where did you read this? I was researching this for another project, and came up with some different figures.

What I found really intriguing was that there has never been a Miss Louisiana win the Miss America pagaent. Miss Louisiana had, however, won the Miss USA pagaent several times.

Hmmm, let's see...what does this tell us?? Pageant girls from Louisiana have no talent? :p

Couldn't you make more positive remarks about an organization that has helped many women? Pettiness shows your own insecurities.

You are so BrandiRae (KDLady00-the KD Ole Miss perp) it's not even funny. You conveniently pop up under different usernames whenever we discuss pageants. Go away.
