About this Harry dying thing, Daniel Radcliff said that he could see it happening. That's all. There is no big annoucement that this is actually happening. If you ever hear anything and aren't sure, just go to the Leaky Cauldron. They have a great relationship with WB and JKR's people, so they check all the rumors out. This one is definitely *not* true.

Tigerlilly, how are you getting to go a day early? Did you win tickets? I'm stuck going Friday afternoon, I'm working at 7am that morning and don't think I can stay up for the line party Thursday night. I don't have a costume though, so maybe that's a good thing. :)

I would rather enjoying the movie than get crossed by noises such as children crying, baby squeaking and such, even though perhaps HP movies are all ages movies.

Anyway, still very excited about POA.

I always take children to see the movie, but I understand wanting a children-free show...they are noisy.

However, when I went to see the first movie, the parents were my problem. Two parents almost came to blows. One complained about a child crying. The other retorted that this is a kid's movie and she needs to get a grip. They proceeded to go back and forth. One finally threatening to jump over the seat and kick the other's arse. Can you say scared? I could not believe that they were behaving that way in front of all of those children.

starang21 05-31-2004 08:34 PM

could the rumor of harry dying be more on the lines of him dying in a book then somehow coming back to life at the end of the book? this would put much of the story line on the other characters, or something to that extent.

My friend is actually going to still be in Germany when it is released (part of a college trip) but I made her SWORE she won't see it until she comes back to America. She was also nervous that it was going to be in German (like they dubbed the voices, instead of German subtitles). Do you know how it is going to be done?

tinydancer 05-31-2004 11:21 PM

Just got off the phone with my friend who is going to buy tickets for a group of us to go on Fri. I've seen the other two on opening day as well. I'm re-reading POA now because it's been a while and I need to refresh my memory.

polarpi 05-31-2004 11:35 PM

Still in the processof convincing my grandma to go with me....I probably won't see it for another couple of weeks, because I'm sure by now a lot of the theaters have already pre-sold many of the showings and I wouldn't get in to see it until sometime in the next few weeks, anyways :(

In most cases in Italy, it will be dubbed into Italian (and same rules for Germany and France). But more German actually speak English than Italian, so they might just have the subtitle. It should be mentioned on the advertisement/theater billboard whether it is dubbed or in English.

In Berlin, we were trapped into the German speaking IMAX theater in Potsdamer Platz, it sucks. I wish I spoke German.

And if it makes you feel any better, Intense, I knew about that little tidbit of information before I read the 5th book, and it didn't ruin it for me :)

As did I. But when I found out... then I read the book... I forgot all about the spoiler.
(And I read the spoiler on GC too. Serves me right. :p )

YAY! I'm seeing the movie Friday!

Anxiously awaiting the 6th and currently re-reading the 3rd.

I really think this is a red herring!. I know she *said* he was dead...but I don't believe he is going to stay gone. When what happened to him happened...no one in the book EVER said he was dead. He *passed through* the portal, he *went* to the other side, he *is not with us* anymore...

Those were all lines in reference to the event. Think about it.

That's very true. Everyone just assumed Sirius was dead.

However I don't see her bringing him back. She's not afraid to talk about death and dying and loss in her books and I think it's a theme that she wants the readers and her characters to deal with.

True... I often wondered about that. Watch... he'll return at the end of book 7.

****Book 5 speculation/spoiler****

But didn't Luna's parents go thru that portal too? (Or was it Nelville's? Can't remember...)

It must have been Luna's. Weren't Neville's parents in the hospital because they had been cursed by Voldermort. That's why he lived with his grandmother.

(I really need to re-read the books)

The one I'm going to see will be dubbed in German. (But that's OK for me because I speak German.) Some theaters are showing it in English, no subtitles, but none in Heidelberg where I live. If your friend wants to see it in Germany (even though she promised not to ;)) she should look for somewhere showing the original version.

And lauralaylin, I get to see it early because it comes out a day earlier in Germany. No idea why. So with the time difference, I get to see it a full 30 hours before anyone in America. :D

JKR has said in several interviews that when people die in HP, they stay dead. I highly doubt that Sirius is coming back.

Anyhoo, back to the topic at hand, my boyfriend and I Fandango'd our tickets for Saturday night. We're going at 10 pm, so hopefully there won't be any annoying screaming kiddies around!

ms_gwyn 06-01-2004 07:40 PM

I pre-ordered my tickets last week for the IMAX showing at 10:00 am, I know that I'm asking for kids, but I think that since school is not out yet, I have a fighting chance of *not* too much noise.

As for Sirius....he is DEAD, it kills me to "say" it, remember the "double" sided mirror and harry attempted to contact him? it didn't happen.

If I recall Luna's mother is dead. Neville's parents are in St. Mungo's because an unforgivable curse was performed on them, the name escapes me at the moment. I also knew (don't remember when) that Neville was going to be just as/ could have been as important as Harry.

I knew in the middle of GOF that Percy was going to be a problem and he is.

I still think (and I truly hope that I'm wrong) that Ron is going to turn on Harry and side with Voldy, but in the end come back from "the dark side" (oh my that was way to star wars even from a SW geek). Just think back to PS/SS and the Mirror and GOF and to some extent OoTP, Ron very easily turns on Harry or gets embarrased when something good happens to him and not Harry. He also has a big complex about his older brothers and to some extent Ginny.

Okay, so I've convinced my grandma to go, AND we're going to a 10:30 showing this Friday (I love Fandango!)

I am not buying it. A red herring is that a red herring. It can make the story more exciting. Just cause he couldn't be contacted with the other side of the mirror....different dimension, realm etc.

When Harry's parents are referred to the word "dead" is used, when those that were killed by Peter whatshisname (wormtail) were killed the word killed and dead were used. With Sirius it is never used. Phrases such as "he is not with us", "he is on the other side" "he has passed over" are used. Maybe, just maybe, this archway is difficult to get back through again. Until then, I am going to keep hoping Sirius is still *alive* and just not with us.

TigerLilly 06-02-2004 03:35 AM

When Sirius went through the archway, did Bellatrix Lestrange go with him? I remember that's who he was fighting at the time. I, too, think they're dancing around it a bit much. *Something* happens when you go through that arch, and it's not normal death.

Good insight... I forgot about Nelville. He and Harry have the same birthday and wasn't there some important "fact" about that in the 5th book? Like Voldy might have the two boys confused? Or something. I just finished re-reading the 3rd book for Friday... now I am wondering if I need to re-read the last two.

Ok... how are you all getting Fandango tix for Saturday? I went there today (Wednesday) and it told me they weren't selling any tickets until tomorrow and they were for the 12:01 shows on Thursday/Friday. I really want to pre-order them because I am afraid it will be packed, but it's not letting me. Is there a trick?

Straight from JKR, via the HP Lexicon:
Quote:

I think what I was trying to do with the death in this book was show how very arbitrary and sudden death is. This is a death where you didn't have a big death bed scene. It happened almost accidentally, and that is one of the very cruel things about death, and they're now in a war situation where that really does happen, where one minute you're talking to your friend and the next minute he's gone. It's so shocking and so inexplicable... "Where did they go?" I found it upsetting to write, because I knew what it would mean to Harry.
Sorry sageofages, he's gone.

I actually went to the theater that I'm going too and pre-ordered there, I think it went thourgh....Movietickets.com but I think its only for certain theaters. I went to fandango and they had a show on sale for tonight (which I think its really strange....and its sold out), but I could not find for other dates. You can try moviefone.com and movies.com, they may have them, I'm sure they do.

tinydancer 06-02-2004 04:43 PM

I am "ticketed" and it is for the first showing Friday at 10 a.m.!!

polarpi 06-02-2004 08:29 PM

I went to Yahoo movies, put in Harry Potter and the Friday date, and it came up with the nearest theaters to where I am and the movie times, and I clicked on the movie time I wanted and went from there to order the tickets.

Maybe it depends on if the theater does online ticketing???

No Bellatrix Lestrange did not go through the Veil....she escaped with Voldermort right before the Minister came into the Ministry. She is actually the one who was battling Harry in the "Lobby" and called Voldermort to come into the Ministry.

I ordered my tickets from the AMC theatres website. We have tickets for the 3:00 p.m. show this Friday. I just happened to luck out that my work changed our hours for the summer so I get off at noon so I didn't have to wait until a late show to go see it.

A day and a half and counting

But I can't wait to see it!
