Don't have Publix around here so I take what I can get. It's not TOO bad... but it makes you want the good stuff. I consider it a hold-over until I get the real stuff.

Now sushi at Paramount's Great America is another story. But my friend and I were daring. ;)

ladyj39 07-30-2004 03:21 PM

I've been craving some fresh maguro and hamachi sashimi and this thread isn't helping! :) I'm addicted to sushi. Thank God I live in San Francisco where it's so easily accessible. I don't know how I would survive if I couldn't get my sushi fix!

chideltjen- Sushi at Great America??? I've never seen that there. You are brave!

norcalchick 07-30-2004 11:21 PM

Todai rocks! You get all of those heated entrees like chow mein and chicken and some other stuff. And they have really good crepes and lil desserts :) The only sushi I like are California rolls, spicy California rolls, and the one that has cooked shrimp on top of a roll of rice.

I love Todai because dinner's on the house if it's your birthday. :)

Any of the Boston people have favorites in the city? I've had Ginza, which was pretty good.

Back when I lived in the Boston area, my favorite was Kaya. There's one in Porter Sq. near the T stop, and another on (I think) Boylston St. They have tons of other things besides sushi.

About putting lots of wasabi in your soy sauce, I've been given to understand that it's bad form / insulting not to at least taste your nigiri or maki before doing so, because sushi chefs often use wasabi when they make these items, and you should taste first rather than arbitrarily deciding they didn't use enough. The same is not true for sashimi.

Dionysus 07-31-2004 12:16 PM

Ummm...like ewwww! Even if it is cooked...

lyrica9 07-31-2004 08:07 PM

sushi has been my favorite food for a decade, which is saying something at the age of 19. im the sushi officianado of my friends, and i spend way too much money at the only sushi bar in denton.

oh, and i can make it!
(hmm... GC sushi making party for those in the DFW area??....hmmm....)

My boyfriend loves sushi. I am the world's pickiest eater in rehab and I'm warming up to it slowly. Every time we go I try something new or start to like what I do have a little bit more. Sooner or later I'll turn into a real affeciando. In the meantime, I still kind of eat Sushi for Beginners.... California Rolls, Tuna Rolls, Avocado Rolls, etc, etc.

Big sushi fan. Eat it about once a week. I don't care if they are not authentic, I love California rolls. My fav is baked scallop on California rolls. I totally plan to branch out into yellowtail and eel.

smiley21 02-13-2005 10:00 PM

i still LOVE sushi. and i am a wasabi fanatic. i was just thinking today that i want to eat some on wednesday.

ykimber 02-13-2005 11:04 PM

I love sushi! I eat California rolls, cucumber rolls, spicy shrimp rolls, Shrimp tempura hand rolls and I especially love octopus salad.

AWJDZ 02-14-2005 10:28 AM

sushi! Can someone get me takeout for lunch? Salmon rolls and tuna rolls are my favorite. man...I am hungry now and all i have for lunch is a lean cusine pizza :(

RUgreek 02-14-2005 01:49 PM

if you don't like spider rolls, you are not a true sushi fan. I usually take down 4 rolls on my own, and try to fit in some edamame for that hunger deep inside

Optimist Prime 02-14-2005 02:45 PM

sushi is great! I haven't had in like two months, so I think I'm due for some!

XOMichelle 02-14-2005 05:17 PM

smiley21 02-14-2005 05:46 PM

I had some incredible sushi today. There is this great place that is only ten min. from my house and they actually serve really good sushi! The other places near my house have OK sushi. Nothing spectacular. Anyway, today I had Dynamite Roll and California Roll. AHH heaven:D

Buttonz 02-14-2005 05:57 PM

Sushi.....yum...thankfully it's both mine and the BF's fav food :)

AWJDZ 02-14-2005 08:07 PM

I just had a tuna roll, a philly roll, and tuna sashimi. It was pretty darn tasty! I wish I had gotten the banana tempura also for dessert.

AznSAE 02-14-2005 08:13 PM

our university has a sushi bar and i get it at least 2 times a week. i switch back and forth between chick-fi-la, pizza hut, and sushi. do not eat that ignari (i think thats what its called), egg roll looking thing with nothing but sugary rice in the middle and soggy on the outside.

aephi alum 02-14-2005 09:05 PM

A word of warning about sushi: You can't be too careful about where you get it.

The cafeteria at my office offers sushi once a week. People from a local sushi restaurant come in and set up a station. I had their sushi for lunch a few times... it was decent. I figured it was more likely to be safe because it came from a sushi restaurant and, presumably, was prepared by a properly trained sushi chef.

Then, one day, one of my coworkers got very sick after eating their sushi.

I found out later that this restaurant supplies sushi to a few different area companies, and whatever doesn't sell at Company X on Monday, they bring to Company Y on Tuesday.

Needless to say, I don't get sushi at the cafeteria any more, nor will I ever go to that restaurant!!

RUgreek 02-15-2005 04:41 PM

if you've had it long enough, you can tell right away if somethings wrong. My favorite test is if it smells fishy, then it's bad:) The color and smell haven't failed me yet, but I'm careful about the raw food i eat.

It's hard to find really good (and cheap) sushi places outside of a big city. I had an awesome place back in Boston, made the best and tightest rolls, yummy.

qteasied 02-15-2005 06:12 PM

OMG I just had like 7 spicy tuna rolls today dipped in soy sauce! Mmmmmm:D

AznSAE 02-04-2006 03:50 PM

I don't think there's a real difference besides the color. They both taste the same. I think it's just a variation of nori color.

I really enjoy those seaweed packets of the roasted kind they sell as snacks. The Korean style's the best, IMO.

Buttonz 02-04-2006 08:11 PM

I had some decent sushi last night, but nothing it like my place back home. I love sushi, and when I'm home its all I eat because it's a pain for me to get it up here in school.

SigmaChiCard 02-04-2006 08:23 PM

i love sushi...i could spend the rest of my life eating that..

tnxbutterfly 02-04-2006 10:38 PM

I was never a big sushi fan. My mom loves it. So i took her to this place near my apartment and boy did have the best sushi I'd ever tasted:D It was philly rolls that we had,but boy were they great. I'm addicted now. I stopped and got some on the way home tonight. It made everything better:D

I still eat Cali rolls, but I've ventured to other sushi. I love nigiri and sashimi. It will take me a minute to acquire a taste for tamago. And, I like unagi more than I thought I would.

Oh, and I've learned how to make sushi; Maki, nigiri, handrolls.

mystikchick 05-13-2007 10:13 PM

mmmm sushi. maybe when this damn econ exam of mine is finally handed in tomorrow, i'll go treat myself to a nice lunch :D love the stuff, but it sucks not being able to eat crab/shrimp/scallops :(

Laak 315 05-13-2007 10:53 PM

sashimi...that's a tasty slice of heaven right there

aephi alum 05-14-2007 09:11 PM

I just had sashimi tonight for dinner! Yum :)

guardedbystars 05-27-2007 02:05 AM

I was sooo craving sushi tonight, but instead had lobster ravioli at this okay to pretty good Italian place.

BUT... sushi THIS week.

AznSAE 06-09-2010 10:18 PM

starang21 06-09-2010 10:52 PM

yep.

LucyKKG 06-10-2010 02:18 AM

It's been wayyyy too long since the last time I had sushi. The dinky piece of Safeway sushi I had at the last Kappa (undergrad) event I went to doesn't count. :( (Sorry ladies)
