Here is my make-up tip for the day...
If you are going to wear lipliner, you must ALSO wear lipstick. It's true. I promise. The lipliner without lipstick look does NOT WORK for you. It doesn't look good on anyone, you can't pull it off. |

AMEN!!!! Someone here already posted that they go in makeup phases where they prefer one brand to another. Right now I am in love with Mary Kay. Velocity works!!! Medium Coverage Fondation works! Eye shadows....stay on and I can not tell you how much I love their mascara!!!! :D :D :D I always have a problem with my mascara coming off through the day above and under my eyes. Not once in my 2-week span has my new mascara done this! Okay, now I'm done professing my love!! Hootie : which facial scrubber is "AWESOME"? Are you talking about the beads inside Velocity? OR am I lost? |

However if you wear a lighter shade of lipliner (as long as you MAKE SURE it's not dark) you can get away with just putting on some light colored lipgloss without looking like a freak. This looks good most of the time as long as there's not a really dark line of lip liner. |

Prescriptives in fringe on the lids. Then take prescriptives shadow in blush and blen this in the crease paying more attention to the inner corner right above the dark. Make sure it's blended well. Then take a white or off white color (I like these with a little sparkle as well) and hightlight the browbone. I also like to use a eyebrow pencil...but not too dark--you don't want to look like Maleficent from Sleeping beauty. Then line the lids lightly with an eyeliner... if you have a liner brush use the shadow color fringe to line the bottom lid then go over it with your finger or a Q-tip to make it smokey. It may take you a few times playing with it to get it how you like. Let me know if you have anymore Q's. |
Also, I like to highlight around the eyes before putting any shadow on...this will make your eyes stand out no matter what look you're going for.
Depending on your skin color try either a light bronzer or prescriptives sheen creme. |
So how about I have a pretty rotten time with makeup.
I've just started trying eyeliner in the last year and can NOT seem to get the hint of how to make it sexy and not trashy. I always seem to have gaps between the liner and my eye -- you know, not getting close enough to the lash line. Also, I bought my first eyelash curler, but can't really see any appreciable difference. Am I supposed to curl before the mascara or after? Because I've been curling before. |

1) I dont really know what brand of eyeliner pencil you are using, but one of the best things I can say is that it is one of those things that you should drop the extra cash and invest in a good one. Cheap eyeliners like covergirl are hard pencils and will give you that cheap trailer trash look. I use a bobby brown pencil which is a softer pencil and is not as harsh 2) I'm not sure when you put eyeliner on in the process of putting on your eye make-up, but I put it on before I put on my eye shadow. That way it blends in with my eye make-up rather then being a harsh line 3) Use a sponge brush to blend in the line a little and make it less harsh. Like one of those little sponge brush that comes with cheap eyeshadow. I know that my eyeliner brush comes with one at the other end. This also makes the eyeliner look less harsh and gives eyes the smoky look. The basic key to all of this is to smooth out the line a little so it doesnt look so harsh, and give eyes the smokey look. My overall make-up advice is that it is definently worth it to invest a little more money in really good make-up instead of buying cheap crap. When you buy cheap make-up from the drug store, you look like how much it cost.....cheap. It is worth it to buy a couple of pieces that cost a little more and look great. I recomend Bobby Brown for eye shadow, blush, and mascara, and always clinique for foundation. Bobby Brown is great for everything. You can always buy the cheap funky crap like glittery blue eyeshadow for certain occasions....but have the expensive stuff for everything else. A tip on bobby brown...you dont need the super expensive brushes....those you can pick up at a drug store |
Actually, I use cheap eyeliner sometimes. I like Revlon Wet/Dry. eyeliner. It goes on sooo smooth and can be as dark or as light as you want.
Your problem is probably either the shade of eyeliner you're using not the brand. I don't know about your skincolor, but perhaps you should try a softer color...soft black or medium brown. I am not crazy about colored eyeliners but there are ways to make them work....but it's not easy. I would try Revlon Wet/dry pencil in Coffee Bean |
Thanks ladies :) I have blue eyes so it's hard to figure out what color to wear sometimes.

i like some mary kay stuff, i just got hooked on that stuff not too long ago.

I'm not sure which colors you use right now, but at my recent Mary Kay party - my consultant made me try on this liner called Bronze. It's real brown, but not a deep dark brown. I was hesitant b/c I'm used to lilac and slate/steely colors. But I can not tell you how much I love this liner. I have gotten so many compliments, even people I don't know will come up to me and say 'you're eyes are so pretty'. I swear it doesn't look like much, but it does wonders. besides that, I'm a color girl - I love lilac, and MAC has a yellow frost shade that isn't overwhelming and it really pops out the blue eyes! but that may just be me |

MAC for sure.........it is not expensive........ if you want to talk expensive try Chanel or YSL. I have a few pieces from them. :) I just LOVE them. But MAC and Shiseido are my fave pieces for everyday use. I dont know if you know your colors?
anyways........ Yes I also love urban decay for the night time look. I dont know if you heard of Make Up For Ever. it is a french brand... really cool they also have body paint stuff......... |
i have blue eyes as well
for everyday i use bobby brown bone or petal as my base shadow and bobby brown heather as my lid color. when i go out i use the petal as my base color and then bobby brown bronze as my lid color my eyeliner color is called smoke....its sort of a charcol grey color i still contend that its not just the color eyeliner pencil.....but it looks like the concept that make-up is for enhancing natural beauty and that you are not suposed to really notice that is it there is completely lost on most of you buy cheap look cheap. i mean how many of you buy most of your clothes from wallmart? and you put cheap make-up ON YOUR FACE in regards to colors....go to a professional (ie your department store make-up counter girl). PICK ONE WHO LOOKS GOOD. most of the time they know what they are talking about. even if you are not really going to buy there and are really looking for just color suggestions to go buy somewhere else just be like "i'm interested in some eyeshadow and i need some advice" i mean, its pretty lame to bother a sales person to find the color and then not buy something from them when they probably get commission, but you get the color suggestions |

You can buy the most expensive makeup in the world and if you don't know how to apply it you will look like a cheap whore. You can get stuff at Dollar Tree and if you apply it correctly you will look like a million bucks. It's not the brand or price, it's how you work it. More expensive shadows & blushes are more finely milled and make it harder to put on too much, but believe me, there are LOTS of women who manage it. :p No one is saying to wear superbright makeup in a professional or everyday setting, but every once in a while it's fun to wear makeup that stands out. Day in day out of neutrals is BLAH, BORING. |
There's a cosmetics lab in a place near my hometown too...My roommate's mom is an industrial nurse for them or something and she gets all kinds of free stuff...Lancome, Clinique, prescriptives, etc...It's ALL made at the same places!! Some kinds are just better for different skin types and colors.
I have found that neutrogena has a great foundadtion..as does prescriptives. I don't really think that you always have to spend a lot of money to look good. |
I just found some new make up that I really like. It's about the middle of the road prices. It's called Soho. I don't know if it's sold in the U.S. I just saw it in my local drugstore a few weeks ago.
I bought some of their eye liner and eye shadow. They eye shadow I bought is creamy, but drys like a powder and I love it. It does on so well. I love the eyeliner too. It's a pencil, but it goes on really smoothly. Which is great because I hate liquid liner because it always smudges on me. I use Rimmel mascara. I don't wear blush and I hate powder and foundation. I don't like wearing all that stuff on my face. My skin is really dry to begin with and all it does is dry it out more. I might use a little concealer to hide some of my more noticable blemishes. I'm always trying new brands of make up. I haven't found one that I'm loyal too. My biggest thing is putting on my eye makeup. I never get it the way I want it to look. What's the best techiniq for putting on eye shadow? |

Ok whoever is saying this stuff about cheap makeup...
I will agree that there are a few brands that are so cheap that they'll clump up on your face or unevenly blend.... But the majority of drugstore cosmetics are owned by designer brands. Cheap eyeliner can be hard, but I've found designer stuff to be harder b/c as someone already said, they're made so that you don't put on too much. The absolute cheapest makeup ever, Wet n Wild, costs me 99 cents for a 7 inch long eyeliner, that is the softest and longest lasting I've ever used. You want good, cheap makeup? Rimmel is KICK ASS. To whoever had the eyeliner problem: try to get it as close to the base of your eyelashes as possible. I prefer to put on a little extra and then smudge it with my finger....but I apply almost all my makeup with my fingers b/c it warms it up and makes it easier to spread. If you apply it and it looks too far away or "gappy"...just apply some powder similar to that color along the lashline with a brush...it should make it all blend. In fact,I would say makeup is the one area of your appearance/wardrobe that it's OK to do cheaply... |
I like to look in the mirror and rub lipstick on...but it usually goes beyond the lips - at least a full inch above and below.
-Rudey --My favorite color is red. |
I always imagined Rudith's favorite color as being pink. Like a bright bubblegum shade of pink. With sparkles.

Can anyone recommend a good eyeliner with staying power? I've tried Lancome and MAC and by 1pm, its gone.
Plus, I am kinda due for some new make-up brushes.... Suggestions? |

Yeah, who makes the best brushes. I bought some brushes today, but they aren't the best quality. I'd like to invest in some good brushes but I don't really want to pay an arm an a leg.
Also, what's the best style brush for applying eyeshadow? |
my eyeliner/eyelid gap solving problem -
i'm right handed so i take my left hand and place my middle finger about 1cm away from the outer cr. of my eye and gently pull outwards toward my temples so that my top lid makes more of a straight line. it's alot easier to apply liner on yourself if you have a taut eyelid. just don't pull to hard! also, if you are right handed like me, doing your right eye is tricky, but it is possible! :) |

we need a pic of Homer and his Makeup Gun. In all seriousness, they always say to go to art supply stores for good quality brushes that cost less, but I've been in art supply stores w/ Mr 33 and haven't seen anything I would like to use on my face. |
Victoria's Secret has good brushes. Of course, you have to have one near you that carries makeup. But it's worth it!
|
I have MAC, Make Up For Ever and Prescriptive brushes, but if you want one that is not bad on the price level try Sephora.
Trust me you can tell when makeup is cheap, when it comes off, runs and doesnt last. My expensive makeup last for over a year while cheap makeup a few months maximum. |

As far as eyeliner goes I am the biggest eyeliner klutz ever. I have however had have luck with Almay hypoallergenic Amazing Lasting 16 hour eye pencil. It stays on and is good for us that are sensitive or contact lense wearers. The colors are good too. There is a grey that is much less harsh than black if you're fair and blue eyed like me. |
For the record, I have dark brown eyes :)
I have always hated putting on eyeliner, until I found Smashbox. They have a cream eyeliner that is really easy to apply. This is the duo that I have -- smashing caviar and thunder. I love both of the colors, but I probably wear smashing caviar more because it seems more natural to me. http://www.smashbox.com/_images/prod...ar-thunder.jpg I use a conglomeration of brands of make-up, but I love Smashbox for their eyeshadows, eyeliner and lip stick. I will say, though, that it's not for everyone. My sister, who has hazel eyes, ordered a few things and hated all of them. |

I am not going to argue anymore about whether or not to buy expensive makeup. Sometimes you just have to buy a few things that aren't for you before you find what is right for you. Everyone's skin is different. That's why there are so many differnt choices of makeup. |
