Well, damn - I was going to ask if I could AI!! But if they aren't a Top 6 sorority at Texas, never mind!!!

The SHIMs have more of a northern focus. We sincerely hope and pray that many of our members get asked to Old North - you know, where the brothers of a certain really cool northern fraternity come riding up to us on cows, dressed in overalls and mittens, and ask us to be their dates. We prefer to associate ourselves with the elite sororities/fraternities at schools such as Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, Bradley, Northwestern, etc.

With regards to AI, at this point in time SHIM feels that AI only exists because lesser frarorities don't realize how "tacky" it makes them look to take sister/brothers who could not get a bid during TOP rush at a COMPETITIVE school. Maybe you should try Tau Rho Alpha Nu.

I've heard that "Pat" from Saturday Night Live is a SHIM alumnua/a. Anyone know which school?

Is Boy George a SHIM also?

Pat was an honorary initiate. Boy George is a TPAN, we sould never associate ourselves with his ilk.

And do you think it would be ok if I used the same colors/flowers/motto/badge as another sorority? It's not like I would be copying them because I would change the name "slightly."

Unfortunately, no, and I know the reason why. That picture is from when Divine went through formal recruitment, and when you wear all red to open house rounds, the houses naturally figure you are only looking at AOII, ChiO, Alpha Gam, or maybe Alpha Chi. So SHIM and 14 other houses cut Divine, and Alpha Chi and AOII cut Divine for grades. Divine dropped out because Alpha Gam and ChiO were both in the bottom half of the top tier, and Divine wasn't willing to consider a house that wasn't in the top half of the top tier. This is why it's SO important to keep an open mind! Also DO YOUR RESEARCH ahead of time so you can buy a new wardrobe for recruitment that doesn't reflect any GLO's colors.

I could use SHIMMY and I don't think that would be copying because it is not SHIM.

OMG! You so should be SHIMMY and or recruitment you can brag that your chapter is the only one with it's own dance move -- THE SHIMMY, SHIMMY SHAKE! That's so much better than having your pin on the moon or something else like that ;)

I'm just reading this thread for the first time and I think it's absolutely hysterical, kinda hard to read it while my roomate's sleeping though...
One question though, if you aren't one of the lucky few to get a bid to SHIM or even *gasp* TRAN, how many times can you keep on doing the surgery in order to join more sororities that way. A lot of them have colors I like, it's so hard to limit myself to just one.

If you have more than 1 surgery, you have to join SHAM. Or TPAN might still take you, because you don't even need a surgery to join them. Those 2 aren't "top-tier" though, I'll warn you.

OMG well what happened to me is right after I initiated into SHIM I had to transfer...my chapter of SHIM never gave out shirts or did the secret ceremonies right....we are all supposed to be dressed like this and instead they made us wear red gloves and gowns ugh....I want to start a chapter of SHIM at my school but they keep saying they aren't expanding and I don't think that's fair since I am the only SHIM here...no one knows what my letters are (not that I have any shirts since my big sisterbrother never gave me any) but ugh, I think some of the other SHIMS need to start a chapter with me.

I'll start a SHIM chapter with you. It'll be a breeze, girl! :)

You should start a chapter of SKEPi so that you can have dual membership. I hear that they really need members.

Anyone considering this option, though, should be forewarned. If you attend LSU, you can only join SHAM if you are a woman having surgery to become a man. If you are a man having the surgery to become a woman, you will not get a bid because of their "once cut, always cut" policy.
