pinkies up 05-17-2007 10:16 PM

My babies wear pink and green, come to the service projects, and see my work for AKA all of the time. My four year old asked me when she could be an AKA, and I told her when she got into college, had the g.p.a., and IF she was accepted. Just because mama made it doesn't mean she deserves it too.

My post is honestly how I feel. I understand that many (maybe even most) people here don't share my viewpoint, but since this is a public discussion board, I feel (and hope) I can contribute too - even if it is a minority viewpoint.

Have a safe trip.

If you do a general search in the NPHC forums (particularly, Omega, DST and AKA, maybe even Kappa) on 'idolatry' or 'religion', you will see the history of the board in relationship to those topics. Only then will you understand why you received the reaction that you did. You may be new to this board but the topic is rather old.

However, I can't help it if someone's heart is pricked while/after reading my post. That wasn't my intent, but if it happens and ultimately someone is helped, I won't be angry.

Is there some rule about who can talk about, or introduce, what?

OP: What would you do if your daughter joined a different org from yours?
Lots of posters: I would be upset.
You: Not me. I don't idolize my org.
Akception: I don't idolize mine either, but I want my niece to share the honor of being in the presence of this circle of women
You: That's idolizing them.

No hostility, I'm just letting you know that most people would see this as you suggesting that others are idolizing their orgs. Expressing YOUR feelings on the subject and suggesting this are not mutually exclusive. Everyone is only expressing her feelings.

LOL, mine too.

Anyway, like Soror SKEEphistAKAte said...Ummm this little boy right here...will NOT be pledging any other fraternity. And that is the end of that! LOL. I would hope that my son chooses Alpha. I'd be super mad if he didn't and I would still pay. After all, he is my only baby.

I am the first greek in my family (second to attend college). My lil sister followed me into AKA. My cousin who is going the UMCP, this year already said she is. She cracks me up when she talks about going greek. Now my other cousin (her sister) who is going to Bowie this fall has decided that she is gonna be a Zeta. Color me floored. I asked her why all the while trying not to strangle her. I don't want to hurt my Sorors feelings as she did mine, so I won't repeat but what she said was not nice. I'm like where did you get those ideas? She says "look at you and Reds (her sister). If that's AKA, count me out". I tried to explain that there's more to AKA than what she's saying. She said she knows already about the service and all that stuff. It's "reputation" she can't get with. ooohhh, I wanted to strangle her then blast a loud skee wee in her ears. :p I asked her why Zeta, though (not hating)? Why not DST or another one? Her favorite teacher at school who 'understands' her is a Zeta.

So, there ya go. Their inspiration can come from anywhere. I guess we have to go where we fit in, right. Well, except my Alpha Jr. I WILL STRANGLE HIM IF HE COMES TO ME DOOR WITH SOMETHING ELSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL

Your son is adorable. I thought he was a girl at first because of the hair and the round face.

I guess I'll never understand the passion that parents have when they want their child to join a particular organization. Just don't shove it down his throat too much. He'll be sure to either join for the wrong reasons or completely run off and join something else.

Everyone thinks that. Even when he has on a slamming basketball outfit with sneakers. LOL.

Yeah, different folks for different folks, right. It's just that we love our organization so much, we want others to experience it also.

And to be honest, I think most of us is more or less j/k when we say what will or won't do if our kids join another organization. Well, let me speak for myself. I'm sure I'll be upset a bit but that's my only child, I don't think there is anything he can do that will make me that upset. (see my sig line)

Hell he knows that now already. He actaully tells on himself. When he makes a mess he goes "Mommmyyy, I spill juice. Mommmy, juice on floor." then when i come in the room, he darts past me and goes running out with a big grin on his face. LOL

Update

BrownSugaBabe your son is a cutie.

Funny story, I was preparing to go to sorority meeting and I was trying to get Mini Me hyped about going with me. She is usually excited to go to sorority events with me but this particular day had been long and she wanted to nap. So I said "If you go to the meeting with me you'll get to see all of the AKA's." She replied with much attitude, "But I LIVE WITH an AKA." LMAO. Like seeing sorors was no big deal to her, lol.

Anyhow, here are some recent pics of my little trainee. She's 5 years old now. When she grows up she wants to be "a lawyer, a pharmacist, a dentist and an AKA" (a combination of her mine and her dad's professions) :D

She is beautiful!!

Too bad she's being bombarded with Greek stuff. ;)

Live_Wire17 05-26-2007 05:02 PM

My husband told our kids, "you don't have to be greek, but you won't bring anything but Krimson and Kream in here." :) His words...not mine. I want my kids to do "them" and hopefully they have seen our work for the cause and lean that way, but you just never know. I do know that My husband and I are very close to our kids (11 yr old girl and 12 yr old boy) and spend a lot of time with them at different functions so they are very familiar with Kappa and Delta.

Only time will tell...hopefully our influence is MAJOR!

:p :p :D

Because we are "connected at the hip" she is exposed to our organization alot. And if she did one day happen to lose her mind and join another organization I would look something like this::mad: . I definitely wouldn't pay for it and I am not going to lie, I would be salty for a LONG time. I would rather her not join a sorority at all than to join one other than AKA. I wouldn't stop talking to her or anything crazy like that, but I would be upset for a minute.

Amen Soror!

I was just being nosy and reading these threads. My son will be a "Ice Cold" Frat of Alpha Phi Alpha. It is either A Phi A or the highway. God has blessed Alpha Phi Alpha Kappa Alpha with a Spirit of Excellence. "We are the head and not the tail."

I agree with you, I would rather have my son not pledge at all!

"Service to all Mankind"
