That was just too awesome. And as for.... Quote:
I once threw myself in front of our closet door on homecoming so that my OWN MOTHER wouldn't go in. It was a sore spot for months, but I wasn't about to let her see "just what's behind that door?" ;-) And.... Quote:
I always tell stories mentioning my "sister so-and-so"specifically to delinate them from my GDI friends ;-) |
...your father is on a road trip and sees someone wearing your letters and HE runs up to her and says, "Hey, my daughter's an XYZ..."
Cracked me up. |

Funny you mention this because just the other day my dad calls me and says, "you'll never believe what I saw today?" I respond with "what dad?" and he proceeds to squeel in my ear like a school girl, "a group of zeta's at the mall and I just HAD to talk to them." Those poor girls....if anyone on here is a Zeta from the Pittsburg area...I'm going to appologize for my dad acting like a goof ball. Oh, and my father will be turning 60 this year and he STILL has all 3 of his Sigma Nu paddles hanging up in the basement (where he spends all his time playing pool - nope, he hasn't grown up just yet) :) |
This past Tuesday. I went to Whole Foods. While I was there, I saw these beautiful wall calendars. There was one with these gorgeous photos of sunflowers. Since that is my sorority's flower, I though it would look great in my room. Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, I didn't buy it. Oh well, I hope I can get it next time. It could probably be the first step in decorating my room to show how much I love my sorority!

One of my housemates wanted to make door tags for us for Parents' Weekend and without even asking, she knew to make them in star shapes because a star is one of the symbols of KLP. Mind you I'm the only one in a suite of 6 that's in a sorority. ;)

Your mom sends you a baby gift for the new baby ~
the baby's first stuffed squirrel and a romper that says "an AGD loves me" for baby's first picture in the hospital! Your brother hasn't called you in a year and the first time you hear from him its because he met an AGD in Austin and he just had to tell you about it |
You know you love SAI when...
...you buy so much SAI stuff at convention that your luggage almost goes over the weight limit at the airport ...you never go a single day without wearing or carrying a set of letters (sometimes a few!) ...suddenly, your wardrobe has a lot of red..... ...red roses make you think of your sisters, not of Valentines Day ...and Valentines' day makes you think of SAI, not guys! :D ...you not only have sung most of the songs in the songbook, but have most of them memorized ...after all this time, you still tear up when you sing the CHorale or So Near, So Dear :) |
....you fly almost 2000 miles to help your collegiate chapter with formal recruitment
....you fly to visit family in the area of your college and you make sure that you hook up with your sisters for at least one night ....you plan to meet up with sisters you've never met at Universal Studios and more than a few of you plan to bring cameras to take "Sister Pictures"! ....you look at a plain jar and figure out a sorority-related Christmas gift for your diamond sister this year ....a trivia game for your entire organization to play on their forum is started :D ....you contemplate becoming an advisor for a chapter in your new area within a year of graduation |
I know most of these have already been named, but they fell so true with me, too!!!
* You have your big sister, twin/co-sister, little sister, cousin who's also a sister, and two other sisters in your wedding as bridesmaids... * You wear your ZTA badge with sapphires and pearls as your "something blue" on your wedding day *You have 50 corsages on hand for your sisters so they can be honorary bridesmaids * The first thing you think of when you find out your having a child is, "I hope it's a girl so SHE can be a Zeta!" (While your husband is sitting there hoping for a boy:D ) * You find yourself singing ZTA songs to your unborn child * When your husband drives your car with your ZTA license plate, he gladly explains to those who ask that ZTA is his wife's sorority * Your husband has become accustomed to counting the points on any crown he sees just to find out if it's one of your beloved "five-pointed crowns" * You are ready to decorate the nursery in ZTA symbols and mascot if it should be a girl... * You are prepared to teach your son, should it be a boy, that a ZTA would be a most preferable wife... (But, as long as she's Greek it's all good.) Also, that he should join a fraternity... * All of your sisters are ready to shower your little legacy even before you find out the sex * You move to another state and find that you have a support system of sisters waiting for you * Your husband is a high school football coach and you find yourself in conversations with teenage girls wanting to know more about sororities... And, you end up trying to get them to "GO GREEK!" * You find yourself on GreekChat talking to your sisters and fellow Greeks at least twice a day |
Or you wear your Phi Sigma Sigam badge with sapphires in it as your something blue on your wedding day! :D

You know you love your GLO when
-your entertainment center has more white tigers and GAO stuff on it then it has DVD's or CD's Everything in your wardrobe is either Navy or Forest You wear your letters everyday. You start off every sentence with once when my sister (insert name) did this. Your biological sister gets jealous because all you talk about is your sorority and your sisters. Your baby girl is only allowed to join your GLO (Go GAO) You coordinate your wardrobe to have at least one item with your letters on at all times. your lavalier never comes off you plan your wedding close to the annivesary date of your chapter becoming a chapter just so you'll have an extra reason to see all your sisters. your email list has tripled in size because you have almost every sisters email (even if you've never met them) Your list on CC has all Gammas and no one else Your daughter has a future Gamma shirt that is always worn to events. :D :) |
Here's a good one. When your chapter president is telling you that you will be the next chapter advisor and youre only a sophomore. Everyone in your chapter makes fun of you because you have been to every Delta Gamma website and are part of every chat group that there is. and you send emails to the chapter everyday with fun facts about people or things relating to your Sorority and you have an anchor tattoo on your foot! They begin to laugh when all my sentences start out "On Greekchat.com......"
im majorly a dork haha!! i love my sorority. and you no longer have any friends you used to have because you spend all your time with the sorority/members. Oh and you replace your high school bestfriend as your maid of honor so your big sis could be |
Kayla, that's terrific!! I already know some collegiates who are graduating this spring and can't wait for the 3 year to be up before they can be advisors. Chapter Advisor is 5, I think. :D

You know that you love your GLO when you take your sons to national conventions from the time that they can walk, so that they won't even think of joining another fraternity.

Delta Gamma Chapter Advisors get paid?!?!?!??! I'm impressed!!!

In Alpha Gamma Delta, I believe that the only one specifically that gets a salary is the Executive Director unless you count travel expenses for certain officers, consultants, etc.
Of course there is definitely a payoff of being an AGD! ;) :D |
Oh sorry girls... i thought you did get paid...but it would still be worth it. Our chapter advisor loves it and she says it is the best thing she has ever done!!!! ?Sorry again!!
Kayla |
OK, so this isn't so much about my particular GLO as it is about being greek in general.
Yesterday I spotted a taxicab with the taxi company's name on the side: "Fraternity Taxi". The first thought that came into my mind was "I wonder which fraternity?" I think I've been greek too long... :p |
You know you love your GLO when after a sucky night at work, you become super happy when u get a yellow balloon tied with a blue ribbon (fraternity colors). :D :p

When you ask your boyfriend if he will become an Alumni initiate if they ever allow men in a sorority.....
|
LOL!

When you live three hours away and you are busting your ass to keep your sorority on campus!!

Also adding... ...you still go to alumni weekend, even though you're going to daytona beach for 2 weekends in a row for car shows...but you just can't miss alumni weekend. ;) ...you make sure EVERYONE in your new office knows your a ZTA (and ask around to see if anyone else is greek). ...you drop everything when one of your pledge sisters (and dearest friends) calls while you're at work and having a REALLY busy day and says Stetson Law dropped her application because of a miscomunication with Stetson Univ. and you try to find a way to help her out. \^^^/ |
You can't stop bragging about how you've met your national president 3 times, and the third time she sat next to you during dinner. And you can't stop bragging about HOW AWESOME SHE IS!!!
|
When people have told you you should quit and you could never do such a thing.

The Alumni let it be known that they are always going to be there for you, no matter how troubling the situation is, be it large or small.

When you almost cry when another chapter on campus folds because you feel so sorry for them and cannot imagine what you would do if that happened to yours.

When you are putting a slide show together for a chapter retreat and you cry the whole time you are making it because you realize even more that these girls mean the world to you!
|
...when you recruit constantly and are always on the lookout aka since I'm a RA in my building there were originally 2 AOII's including me and now there are 8!
...when you constantly keep up with your big sis, after she's transferred and see her often during the year, though she's across the state. ...when you are good friends with alumna you were never collegiates with |
when you root for St. Joes in the NCAAs, because that university's new president is a Phi Psi.
|
when you pay your $145 convention registration fee before your power bill and then have to explain to your parents after you have to ask them for the power bill money that convention was more important becasue you are your chapters official delegate.
|
...when you realize that you need to either buy a new lavaliere or wear your current one less frequently because it's getting so scratched you can barely read your letters.... :)

*bump*
|
*You spend more time on GC than you probably should.
*You start thinking of ways to put Sigma in your wedding- and you're not even an active yet!! *You win Most Dedicated New Member @ Formal this year. *You've already discussed w/ your family what to do w/ your badge if/when you die. *You pretend rush your mom, dad, brother, etc. to prepare for your first recruitment on the other side this fall!!! *You can't wait to be am alumna so you can apply to be a cosultant (and you're still a New Member). *Every other word out of your mouth is "Sigma" or "My sister..." |
