Not a lot of people from my high school went to college; even fewer joined sororities or fraternities. One girl (who was a year older than me) became a Kappa Kappa Gamma at a small school in Idaho, and my across-the-road neighbor (who was three years older than me) was a FIJI at UW.

Sigma Sage 08-25-2005 08:02 AM

my closest friends went the following

4 Sigma Chi
2 Sigma Pi
2 TKE
3 Sig Ep
2 Phi Mu
1 SDT
1 Alpha Chi Omega
1 Chi Omega
2 Pi Beta Phi

Kevin 08-25-2005 08:19 AM

None of my HS friends went Greek.

My younger brother went ATO...

cashmoney 08-25-2005 08:30 AM

Here's what my friends from HS did, this is only from my class not all my friends from the 4 years.....

6-Sigma Chi/ Univ of Florida (there were 9 of us in our crew)
12-ADPi/ Univ of Florida
3-XO/ Univ of Florida

You can see why my friends from HS that went to UF were mad at me for not rushing SigmaChi and hence the ill feelings I have for them.

:o

emleepc 08-25-2005 10:19 AM

I don't talk to anybody from high school anymore, never see them so....but there's a couple that went greek, that I know of.

ADPi--me!
ZTA-- 1
Sigma Chi--1
(all at UNA)
AOPi at Bama--1
TBS at Auburn--1
PMA at Samford--1
LXA at UAB--1 (my brother)

tunatartare 08-25-2005 10:34 AM

I went to a huge high school, so this is just the people that I know of:
2 AOII
1 Phi Sigma Kappa
1 AEPhi
1 ADPi
2 Delta Gamma
1 Sigma Kappa
2 Delta Sigma Theta
1 Sigma Phi Epsilon
1 AEPi
1 Delta Gamma Pi
1 Epsilon Kappa Theta (a local at Dartmouth- broke off from Theta)

1 AXP

epchick 08-25-2005 10:41 AM

I'm the only one of my friends from my class that I know of...but my friend from class a year after me, went through Rush with me and when we got to bid day, she chose a different sorority and stopped talking to me! booo...oh well.

From other years:
1 Pi Phi

and i think that's it.

KDChiNicole 08-25-2005 10:43 AM

Out of my core group of friends in High School, I was the one who was least expected to go greek, but I go to a school that only has locals. Otherwise:

1 Chi-O
1 Tri-Delt
2 SAE's
1 Pi Phi
1 ADPi

I think that's it, but I also went to a science and engineering program in high school, so it's not something that you'd expect to produce greek intensive groups of people.

ISUKappa 08-25-2005 11:03 AM

Only about half my graduating class went to a 4-year college and of those, I was one of the few who became Greek. Most of the guys from my hometown are AGRs, though a few joined Delta Sig. There were two girls a year older who joined Kappa Delta, quite a few who were younger who joined AGD and one Gamma Phi.

honeychile 08-25-2005 11:38 AM

I'm fairly certain that most of those with whom I was close in high school went greek, although I don't remember which GLOs are involved, for the most part. Those I know for sure:

Alpha Chi Omega - 1 (depledged)
Alpha Delta Pi - 3
Alpha Xi Delta - 1
Alpha Sigma Alpha - 1
Delta Delta Delta - 3
Delta Zeta - 1
Theta Phi Alpha - 1
Kappa Delta - 1
Kappa Kappa Gamma - 4
Sigma Delta Tau - 1
Sigma Sigma Sigma - 1
Phi Mu - 1
Chi Omega - 1

Beta Theta Pi - 1
Delta Tau Delta - 1
Zeta Beta Tau - 4
Kappa Alpha (Southern Order) - 3
Pi Kappa Alpha - 2
Sigma Chi - 2
Chi Phi - 1

LoggerTheta 08-25-2005 06:34 PM

Girls:
Alpha Xi Delta-2
Alpha Phi-2
Chi Omega-1
Delta Delta Delta-2
Kappa Alpha Theta-Me

Guys:
Kappa Sigma-1
Tau Kappa Epsilon-1
Phi Delta Theta-1
Alpha Gamma Omega-1

I was a band geek in high school, and it's not very common for members of that group to go greek. I'm sure that I know many more people (that weren't necessarily my friends) from my high school that are in houses though.

AlphaSigOU 08-25-2005 07:52 PM

Not very many out of the people I knew in high school went Greek in college:

Delta Delta Delta -1
Phi Sigma Sigma - 1
Kappa Alpha Theta -1
Chi Phi - 1
Sigma Pi - 1
Alpha Sigma Phi - 1 (me)

Kevin 08-25-2005 11:19 PM

I was wrong as to none.. I just remembered that one did go with ZBT, although I think it was only a semester until he flunked out. This was not one of their model chapters at the time.

WCUgirl 08-26-2005 12:43 AM

Alpha Xi Delta - 2 (one was my best friend!)
Kappa Delta - 2 (one was my other best friend!)
Zeta Tau Alpha - 2
Phi Mu -2
Kappa Kappa Gamma - 2
Alpha Chi Omega - 2
Sigma Chi - 2
Kappa Sigma - 1
Pi Kappa Phi - 2

And that's all I can remember, but I know there were more.

Rain Man 08-26-2005 02:09 AM

All my high school senior class officers went greek:

President & Valedictorian: Alpha Phi, Ashland University
V.P. & Salutatorian: Alpha Delta Phi, MIT
Secretary: Alpha Kappa Alpha, Wilberforce University
Treasurer: Delta Sigma Theta, Denison University

I had a friend two classes behind me join Kappa Alpha Psi at Wittenburg University and a friend two classes ahead of me (and the first boyfriend of the above class secretary join Alpha Phi Alpha (I don't know what university--though I want to say OSU, but I doubt it).

Unfortunately, not too many of my HS friends went greek, as most of them got married and started family life immediately after high school.

MSKKG 08-26-2005 04:35 PM

Out of my graduating class of 52, here are the ones I know:

KKG--4
KD--3
Tri-Delta--1
DG--1
ZTA--1

Sigma Chi--2

The only one I know for certain is one girl who went DZ at UTA. And I am almost sure that a guy (a year below me) went Delta Upsilon at UTA.

I'm sure there are quite a few, but I have no idea! :)

blueangel 08-26-2005 05:12 PM

From what I can gather, I'm literally the ONLY Greek in my entire graduating class (of 365 students). I even checked classmates.com to see if anybody that I had lost touch with has mentioned a fraternity or sorority in their bio, but I'm the only one.

It just doesn't seem to be a part of the culture in my area. It was never mentioned at all while I was growing up. Nobody in my family went Greek... and nobody in my family understands it today. They just kind of shrug it off with, "oh that's nice".... they think my alumnae chapter is like the local Women's Club.

Whenever I mention ZTA, my friends outside the sorority look at me like I have two heads. They had never heard of ZTA, and can't for the life of them understand what I find attractive about being a sister. But. how do you explain something like that? It's like trying to explain color to someone who is color blind.

It seems so foreign to read on this forum how much a part sororities play in some families.... and to read how some people had dreamed of being in a sorority ever since they were children.

A sorority was the last thing on my mind when I was in high school because I didn't even think they existed anymore. I thought they went out with racoon coats back in the 1950's... They were never mentioned in school, in the press.. anywhere... just on old 1950's black and white movies on TV!

What a culture shock (in a good way!) I had when I moved to Gainesville Florida! Being from the north where we "wawk duh dawg" and "drink wahduh".. I was totally unprepared for SEC life. But I LOVED it!

I'm back up in the (ugh!) northeast again, and I really miss the south. I'm here just for the job, and that's all... kind of stuck here, actually, because I love my job. But.. I'm lucky, though, that there's an alumnae chapter within an hours drive of me.

KatieKate1244 08-26-2005 05:22 PM

My class had 28 students in it...

One went AOII at WVU
Another went Sigma Sigma Sigma at CCU
One of my best friends from high school is a FIJI at Washington and Lee
And then someone else became a Sig Ep at Marshall
One kid who went to Miami (OH) became something but I'm not sure of what.

My best friend (she didn't go to my HS) went Gamma Phi at Pepperdine, but deactivated.

Most of my entire class went to Marshall. The funny thing is, those who went elsewhere became Greeks.

TheEpitome1920 08-26-2005 05:26 PM

Of my close friends I am the only one who joined a GLO.

Other friends:
Soror @ Bradley Univ.
Soror @ Lewis Univ.
Delta Sigma Theta @ Univ. of Michigan
Alpha Kappa Alpha @ some university in Indiana
Kappa Alpha Psi @ Langston Univ.

irishpipes 08-26-2005 05:39 PM

From my class of about 350:

Me: AOII at Illinois
Allison: AOII at Colorado
Cara: DZ at Iowa
Cindy: DZ at Illinois State
Jackie: SK at Eastern Illinois
Anthony: Sig Ep at Illinois
Eddie: Phi Tau at Illinois
Laura: Pi Beta Phi at Illinois

Friends from classes ahead of me:
Anne Marie: Alpha Phi at Illinois
Gerri: KKG at Illinois
Marietta: Theta at Northwestern
Jenn: AOII at Illinois
Sherry: ZTA at Illinois
Mary Lisa: AXO at Illinois
Joe: Evans Scholars at Illinois
John: AKL at Illinois

I'm sure many others went Greek, but if they weren't at Illinois I wouldn't really have known it. My high school was filled with people that you would guess would go Greek, but oddly I didn't hear of very many who did.

CougADPi 08-26-2005 06:28 PM

Friends who actually attended my high school:
Elizabeth: Alpha Gamma Delta
Hana: pledged Delta Delta Delta, but was never initiated

Friends that I had in high school:
Kelli: Alpha Sigma Alpha
Chelsea: Alpha Gamma Delta
Christina: Kappa Kappa Psi

peanutttu 08-26-2005 06:38 PM

None of my HS friends went greek. I graduated high school from a very small school (graduating class 30).

A girl 3 years younger than me pledged Delta Gamma at Texas Tech where I attended.

TSteven 08-26-2005 08:45 PM

These are the ones I recall from when *I* was in high school. Note: it has been awhile and I may not recall everyone.

Alpha Sigma Alpha

Alpha Delta Pi - 1 at UGA
Alpha Chi Omega - 1 at Birmingham Southern
Kappa Alpha Theta - 1 at Vanderbilt

and of course I'm a Zeta Tau Alpha

PM_Mama00 08-28-2005 10:37 AM

1 Sigma Kappa at Grand Valley State
1 Sigma Kappa at Western Michigan
1 Alpha Chi Omega? at Western Michigan
3 Phi Mu at U of M Dearborn - all 3 deactivated for random reasons
1 Delta Phi Epsilon at U of M Dearborn
1 Phi Sigma Sigma at U of M Dearborn

The two Sigma Kappas were best friends since they were like born and ended up joinign the same sorority! It'd be awesome to have that double bond!

ShyViolet 08-29-2005 01:17 PM

Only a few that I know of, but there could easily be more. One good friend is a Kappa Delta (and I heard that a couple of other girls from high school were as well), one Chi Omega, and there was one Kappa Alpha Theta (who I wasn't really friends w/ in high school but recognised her).
These are only the ones that stayed at the university in the same town as our high school, I don't know about others, and there could have been more. It'll be interesting to find out who else went greek at the 10 year reunion (halfway there).

MooseGirl 08-29-2005 03:22 PM

1 - Delta Zeta

first, I didn't have many friends, 2nd GLOs aren't that huge up here in the Great North. In fact my first uni didn't have any. It wasn't till I transfered to Windsor that I ran into my HS friend who by that time was already in DZ 2 years. She's the reason I checked out Greek Life, but somehow I ended up Phi Sig instead of DZ  (she ended up disaffiliating though the following year, and look at me, still here!)

december 03-26-2006 01:33 PM

My best friend from high school is a founding sister in a local (Delta Pi Omega @ UmassDartmouth). I'm sooo proud of her.

JennRN 03-26-2006 03:40 PM

I went to an all girls high school in Dallas, and we had about 140 in our graduating class. Out of my core friends, none went Greek!

At our 5 year hs reunion, I remember that we had a few Chi O's, a couple of Kappas, a ZTA, a DG, a Pi Phi, and an Alpha Phi-but that was 5 years ago, and I can't really remember who went where.

PhiMuAmberkins 03-26-2006 04:23 PM

As far as I know, I'm the only girl from my high school class who went Greek. Most people from my town don't go to college, and, of the ones who did, I'm pretty sure I'm the only Greek!

My best friends in high school went to 2 other local schools, and neither of them are Greek. It's kinda lonely when I go home...

DeltAlum 03-26-2006 04:50 PM

To the best of my knowledge, I am the only fraternity member out of a graduating class of 500 or so.

enigma_AKA 03-26-2006 07:11 PM

I have a cute story...

Actually, interestingly enough, one of my best friends and I pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha, though at different times. Neither one of us expressed any real interest before coming to college; her mother is a soror and a graduate advisor and I had been involved with AKAteens in middle/high school so we both had an idea of the work and time put into being a member.

Anyways, I crossed in Spring 04 and went abroad the following spring. Our communication had become sort of weak while I was gone; I assumed, being junior year for both of us, that her work load had increased. Upon returning in July, she e-mailed me her new contact info (I lost my planner and phone in Italy), expressing a huge desire to speak to me in person, or at least over the phone. Long story short: I couldn't go, but I did call her ASAP to learn the urgency of her situation. She greeted my "Hey, _____" with a "S-k-double e, W-double e, skee-wee, my soror ______, SKEE-WEE!":D And since she's crossed, we've become super tight (she was a lone ace and has to carry on chapter duties by herself, now--and since I was president before I left and am now vice, I had a lot of info to help her through) through ALL the (AKA and otherwise) thick and thin! ;)

Another one of my close friends turned soror from high school crossed the sands right before me and called me to give me words of encouragement in my journey to Alpha Kappa Alpha! Other good male friend is an Omega and had the nerve to tell my father before me (he's frat), lol! But this, too, was while I was abroad and kinda made since. He made up for it, though! :p

My other HS friends are GDI and my classmates are as well.

JonInKC 03-26-2006 08:14 PM

One of my best friends in high school went TKE the semester after I did, same chapter. Another good friend from high school had an older brother in my chapter, and his father was an alum of the chapter also. Alas, he just wasn't the college type I guess. I think it would be cool to have a father and a brother that shared that bond with you. Although it would suck when your big bro and dad kept scrolling you to do everything...lol

I only know of three people out of my class of about 200 that went Greek. Two went Sigma Nu, one Sigma Chi.

Tom Earp 03-26-2006 08:42 PM

None of Mine did!:(

But, they are all retired now and I am still working!

But talking about Suck!!!!;)

ilikehazing 03-26-2006 10:55 PM

Damn, I've got alot.

Of my graduating class, 60 of 550 went greek. Probably about 40 of them I hung out with on a regular basis.

We have about 5 Sigma Chi's, 5 Sig Taus, 8 Tri-Delts, 5 Kappas, a couple Phi Gam's. Got alot of random people who I expected never to go greek. I got real bored and actually listed who all went to what sororities/fraternities and where.

preciousjeni 03-27-2006 10:29 AM

I just reconnected with a high school friend and found out she went ADPi at College of Charleston. I mentioned to her that I recalled hearing about another girl we graduated with going ADPi at CofC.

She said, "Yes, she was my big sister!" LOL! That was nice to hear. :) Other than that, I know my high school best friend went Alpha Chi Omega but left the school and the sorority behind with it. I don't really know of anyone else but I'm SURE there are others.

FeeFee 03-27-2006 11:48 AM

I only know of one high school friend who went greek. He pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. as an undergrad. He told me about our high school reunion (I didn't attend) and made no mention of anyone else who went Greek. I've only been a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha a year, lol. :)

jubilance1922 03-27-2006 12:35 PM

Thanks to facebook, I know that out of my graduating class there are:

2 Delta Sigma Theta's
1 Omega Psi Phi
1 Zeta Sigma Chi
1 in a local
1 who is a soror (Sigma Gamma Rho)

TheEpitome1920 03-27-2006 12:47 PM

Of my graduating class I've learned of

1 Soror
1 Alpha Kappa Alpha
1 Delta Sigma Theta
1 Kappa Alpha Psi
