Whatever the diagnosis, Dr. John Carter's residency at Chicago's County General has come to an abrupt halt.


After almost a decade with NBC's top-rated medical drama ER, Noah Wyle will be taking a break this season.


E! Online's TV columnist Kristin reported last month that Wyle would be exiting to spend more time with his wife, makeup artist Tracy Warbin, and their nine-month-old son, Owen.


No word on how long Wyle's hiatus will be, but this week, the actor's rep assured TV Guide that Wyle was "not leaving" the series.


Wyle is scheduled to appear in the first two episodes of the upcoming season, which will resolve a two-part cliffhanger that straddled both last season's finale and this season's opener. The two-parter features Dr. Carter and Dr. Luka Kovac in the African Congo, where the two doctors traveled to treat victims of a civil war.


In the meantime, producers plan to introduce several new characters to fill the void, including Bend It Like Beckham's Parminder K. Nagra.


Wyle could be back in November, suggests TV Guide. Indeed, "it's not like he's gone away forever," said an executive with the show.


However, it's an about-face from Wyle's attitude last May when the show celebrated its 200th episode. At the time, the good doctor told reporters his "commitment to the show is as strong as ever."


Staying power was something producers were counting on--Wyle's contract extends through 2004, the show's 10th season--as his veteran character has increasingly taken center stage in the emergency room.


He remains the only series regular to stick with ER through all nine seasons, evolving from frazzled med student to mature physician. For his tenure, he's handsomely compensated, earning an estimated $400,000 per episode, which makes him one of TV's highest-paid stars.


That's a long way from the bits parts Wyle played in TV movies in the early '90s. Then came a role in 1992's A Few Good Men and two years later a part in NBC's new drama ER, which originally touted George Clooney (news) as the one to watch, until Dr. Doug Ross left in 1999. The leading-man stethoscope was then passed to Anthony Edwards (news)' Dr. Mark Greene before he left in 2002.


Wyle, who now rules County General, has also been adding to his movie credits. Last year, he starred opposite luscious leading ladies Michelle Pfeiffer (news) in White Oleander and Jennifer Lopez (news) in the underperforming Enough.


Wyle met his very own leading lady, Warbin, in 1996, while both were working on the set of the indie film The Myth of Fingerprints, in which Wyle costarred. The pair started dating soon afterwards and wed in 2000.


Their first child, Owen Strausser Wyle, was born in a Los Angeles-area hospital on November 9.

"I dont want to miss one thing about his growing up, his adolescence, his learning to walk," Wyle told E! Online during a set visit in May.

Founders may divvy up the Roc-A-Fella center


Jay-Z and Beyonce may be 'Crazy in Love,' but the rapper's other serious relationship isn't going as well. He & Roc-a-Fella co-founder Damon Dash are said to be on the outs.

Are rap superstar Jay-Z and hip-hop mogul Damon Dash ready to call it a day? Insiders have been buzzing for months that the co-founders of Roc-A-Fella Records aren't the big-pimpin', hard-knock buddies they once were. Now that Jay has announced he's retiring as a performer, he's easing out of their partnership, according to sources. "Damon wants to be a baby Puffy [Combs]," says one source, referring to the more famous Bad Boy Records chieftain. "He's spending aimlessly on the company. He signed [former Wu Tang Clan member] ODB against Jay-Z's consent. Jay has had enough of it." "This has been brewing for years," contends the insider. "Jay is reserved and cool. Damon is flashy. He's had liposuction twice." (Damon's rep denies he's had fat extracted.) One of Dash's friends argues that the two guys haven't been hanging out as much because "Jay has a girlfriend" - the bootylicious Beyoncé Knowles. The two men are said to be in the early stages of divvying up their mini-empire of music, fashion and movie production. Last year, Roc-A-Fella signed a four-year extension of its agreement with Island Def Jam, which distributes the label's artists, including Beanie Sigel, Cam'ron and Victoria (Posh) Beckham. But according to one source, Def Jam honcho Lyor Cohen has sanctioned a plan that would allow Dash and Jay (aka Shawn Carter) to each have his own label and artists under the Roc-A-Fella umbrella. Sources say Jay may want to develop artists with Steve Stoute, the former Universal Music executive who helped launch his "S. Carter Collection" sneaker line for Reebok, and is planning a black sneaker laced to "The Black Album," Jay's supposedly final CD, due in November. Word is that Dash has also approached other record companies with new artists. Dash's spokeswoman denies any friction between him and Jay, but admits he's approached other labels. "We have 21 acts coming out," says the rep. "Damon is not sure they could all come out on Def Jam. A couple of them might come out of another company. But it's not for sure." An Island Def Jam spokesperson says, "The company is working all Roc-A-Fella acts as usual."

Guuurrrl, ODB is out on parole, with a 9pm curfew. VH1 aired a show about him, "ODB Out on Parole". The show was a bona-fide hot mess I tell ya!!! Check listings for rebroadcast dates. Yes, they showed when Damon signed him on the Roc label. ODB also had some contractual agreement with his cousin RZA (that got squashed as well). ODB also has his own clothing line out, Dirt McGirt.

I saw that show. I was CTFU the entire time. ODB is so fat and nasty, and girls were still talking to him! :eek: :rolleyes: The show is called (Inside)Out. There will also be an upcoming episode following Toni Braxton as she was pregnant with her second child.


On another note, it's clear to see that Jay and Damon are going separate ways. At least Jay's (besides Beyonce) trying to act like he's 33 years old. I will be sad to see him retire though, he's my favorite rapper.

It was reported in the Daily News on Monday I think, or it could have been Sunday's paper that Joe Bryant and his wife have not had any contact with Kobe. They didn't go to Cali when he turned himself in in Colorado, nor have they seen their granddaughter since she has been born. It was reported that the riff that came when Kobe married Vanessa against his parents wishes is starting to mend, but not fast enough.

It was reported this morning on Russ Parr that Jay-Z and Beyonce got married this weekend in Vegas.

Actor Terrance Howard has joined the cast of the Showtime series Street Time. Erika Alexander who starred as “Max” on the show Living Single also stars. The show airs on Showtime Wednesday nights at 10pm. Terrance has added his middle name to his professional name. Terrance Dashon Howard. Terrance is best known for his role as the “Playboy” in the movie The Best Man.

Don’t look for The Fugees to get back together. Back in the 90’s, Wyclef Jean, Lauryn Hill and Pras topped the charts and ruled the music world but now the trio is not on speaking terms. Wyclef broke Lauryn’s heart with their affair and Pras and Wyclef had a falling out. In a recent interview Pras dissed Wyclef saying he remembers when Wyclef used to wear a Jheri Curl when he worked in a beauty store. :D *LOL*

Okay, this is her logic behind that thought. She says that before Robert and Brandy got married, Rodney was telling Brandy that she could do better and that Robert wasnt the man for her and just plain downing him and trying to talk himself up. He was saying this about his own cousin. I mean, where is the support?

Then, she says that Rodney was saying that because him and Brandy were secretly seeing each other and that the baby was really by him, but if you look at the baby, she really does resemble Rodney.

Hmmmmmmm, something to think about.

(8/11/03, 3 p.m. ET) -- R&B singer Monica titled her latest CD After The Storm because of the many emotional events the singer has had to overcome, in particular witnessing the suicide death of her boyfriend, Jarvis Weems, in July of 2000.


According to the World Entertainment News Networks, Weems' mother doesn't believe that Monica is being honest about what she saw the day Jarvis died. According to Monica, Weems called and told her to meet him at the gravesite of his brother and when the singer arrived, he refused to unlock the doors of his car and shot himself in the head in front of her.


Tyra Weems has a different theory, "I don't believe my son killed himself. I feel Monica knows a lot more than she's admitting. The bullet went in on the right side of his head, but he was left-handed. Why would he use the wrong hand to shoot himself? The cops just took her word for what happened. Now I wish my son had never met her."


Calls to Monica's representatives at J Records were not returned at press time.


In related news, Monica's "So Gone" was recently knocked off the top of the charts. The song is presently at Number Six on the urban Radio & Records National Airplay chart. The singer will release two new singles later this month, "Knock, Knock," and "Get It Off."


Monica's latest release, After The Storm, is Number 36 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The set has sold more than 469,000 copies since its release according to Nielsen Soundscan.

I'm sorry that Ms. Weems lost her son, but she wasn't there the night he died neither. A lot of kids do things to themselves that parents would swear up and down is impossible. Never underestimate a child's capabilities/talents/methods, whether good or bad. Her son might have been left-handed, but it's possible that he was able to do somethings with his right hand, including holding a handgun and pulling the trigger. Wishing that her son never met Monica isn't going to change things. She act like Monica shot her boy or something. Lying about someone committing suicide? That's a bit much, IMO.

Another thing is, if he were sitting in the drivers seat, and he was left handed, it would kind of make more sense that he did use his right hand, more room for his arm, the window would get in the way with the left arm.....just something to think about.

Not only that, if Monica was sitting next to him in the passenger seat, he would've had to use his right hand so that he wouldn't accidentally shoot her in the process.

I thought that the article said that Monica met him at the cemetary, and when she arrived he refused to unlock the doors and exit his car. So that would mean that she was outside of the car, and not in the passenger seat. I may be wrong, but that was the way that I read the passage.

This is what Monica stated on 20/20 a few weeks ago. She said she had gone back to her car to call for assistance and while doing so, the go shot himself. Supposedly, he had been really depressed because he had lost his brother. :confused:

Bobby Brown A Wanted Man Again
 

Citing a failure to complete any of the conditions of his probation from a drunk-driving conviction, a judge in Georgia's DeKalb County has issued a misdemeanor arrest warrant for troubled singer Bobby Brown.

Brown, who potentially faces jail time for the alleged violations, has not been heard from or seen by deputies since the warrant was issued nearly a month ago, according to a DeKalb County sheriff's office spokesperson.

The R&B singer has failed to complete the conditions of his probation from the April 1996 arrest, which included participation in a risk-reduction program, completion of 240 hours of community service, six months of twice-weekly Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and an order to submit to random alcohol and drug screenings, the spokesperson said. Deputies have been unable to locate Brown since the warrant was issued on July 17, despite looking for him at his Atlanta-area home and several other locations in the area.

Though it is up to the judge in the case to decide, it is possible that such violations could result in jail time.

A spokesperson for Brown could not be reached by press time.

This is the second time this year that a warrant has been issued for Brown's arrest. A bench warrant was issued in January after the singer attended the American Music Awards in Los Angeles instead of a court appointment in DeKalb County, where he was awaiting trial for the 1996 arrest. During that incident, police stopped Brown for driving his red Mercedes erratically and he was charged with driving under the influence, speeding, failing to maintain a lane and having no proof of insurance.

In January, Brown's lawyer, Xavier Dicks, said his client's failure to appear stemmed from a scheduling conflict, since Brown had requested that the judge reconsider allowing him to travel to California for the awards show. "It'd be like asking a football player not to play the Super Bowl," Dicks said. Brown was later sentenced to eight days in jail after turning himself in to authorities.

Brown was arrested in Atlanta on November 7 of last year on charges of marijuana possession, speeding and having no driver's license or proof of insurance (. It was at that point that authorities realized the older case had fallen through the cracks when Brown failed to show for his original court date in 1997.

The singer has not been entirely out of the public eye. He and wife Whitney Houston made a well-publicized visit to Israel in May for a spiritual retreat with the Black Hebrews sect, during which she was considering recording songs for a Christmas album.

there are things left out that i remember hearing when this happened. am i the only one that remembers hearing that when dude wouldn't unlock the car door and maybe after he had already shot himself, monica pulled her own peice out of her purse and shot the window out? :confused:

I remember her saying that on 20/20. She said she always carried a gun and when she arrived, he was locked inside the car. When he shot himself she shot the window out to get to him. She said he talked to her for a few minutes. She wouldn't repeat what he said because it was for her ears only. Now this mother wishing her son never met Monica thingy. Monica said he was a big time drug dealer who did things not so nice to other people but he shielded her from a lot of things he did. Why is mom acting like Monica is the blame for his death? The street life would have caught up with him eventually.

Monica said that she had "2 lives" if you will. Her father was "in the game"; while her mother wasn't. Her parents were not together, so she lived her mother's "life" while with her. When she visited her father, she lived his "life". It was 2 different worlds and 2 different ways of surviving/living. This is all according to Monica. Sooooo, is it hard to believe that she is into "gangstas"? I guess she doesn't discriminate. Shoooootttt, there are MANY college-educated gangstas out there, too. :p ;)

Nicole Kidman and Lenny Kravitz are spending a lot of time in each other's company. And, according to a friend, it's love.

"It's the real thing," a friend told the Sunday Mirror. "They'll step out together in public sooner rather than later."


"He makes her laugh and is very attentive. They're both very happy."

So much so, in fact, that the unlikely pair - Hollywood star and maverick rocker - are hiring a luxury yacht to take them on a three-week Mediterranean cruise next month.

Aussie Nicole, 37, who has been linked to the likes of Robbie Williams and Spiderman's Tobey Maguire since splitting from husband Tom Cruise, met Lenny late last year.

Tongues began wagging last month when the couple were spotted canoodling in New York's Soho House.

Within days they had reappeared at P Diddy's birthday party and the in-crowd nightspot Bungalow 8.

Kravitz, 39, is busy recording a new album, while Kidman completes work on the remake of The Stepford Wives.

NEWS - Bow Wow & B2K May Record Joint Album

(8/13/03, 5 p.m. ET) -- This year rapper and actor Bow Wow opted not to participate in the Scream III tour which he helped to launch in 2001. The tour's present line-up includes B2K, Mario, and Nick Cannon. On Tuesday (August 12), LAUNCH spoke with Bow Wow who said that he has no beefs with anyone on the tour and that he and B2K are presently taking about recording and touring together.

"You know me and B2K, we talking about doing something next year," Bow Wow said. "Talking about doing an album together and then touring together, just us two. So there's no telling what's going to happen."

Bow Wow will release his third solo set, Unleashed, on Tuesday (August 19). The first single from the set, "Let's Get Down," is presently Number 18 on the urban Radio & Records National Airplay charts.


Bow Wow will be launching his Unleashed tour in September. The rapper recently replaced opening singer/rapper Lumidee with several up-and-coming acts that he's developing.

When LAUNCH spoke to Bow Wow he explained that Lumidee missed a warm up date for the tour which prompted him to consider using his own acts. "I understand why you know Lumi didn't show up," Bow Wow said. "I understand that. I'm willing and would love to have a talk with her cause I think they really blew that whole thing out of proportion. It's not a diss. It's just a fact that it's really hard you know to really work with people that you haven't been working with and to depend on them after one incident happens. I know it's not her fault. I really understand that but then again it's just always safe just to make sure everything is right."

Bow Wow will have his chance to talk to Lumidee on Thursday (August 21) when the singer opens for him at New York's Pier 54.
