"Dream in Your Sleep," "Tonight" and "Remember" are my favorites. We do those on pref/serious night. I believe all three have been posted already.

I'll also share a cute song to the tune of the Goldfish jingle that one of my sisters wrote:

Bye from Gamma Phi, we're glad you came,
Gotta go Gamma Phi, gotta go Gamma Phi.
We grow as sisters every day,
and we are proud to say,
We are the Gamma Phis, gotta go Gamma Phi!

man, i think we have used that song forever! hehe.. are there any NEW ones? as an active & now an advisor, we have used the same songs going on 10 years! hehe ;) if you have any dirty ones PM me! that could get dangerous too... i know some & at retreat last year the sisters were trying to get me to sing them! yeah, no. haha

At Final Party (Preference for you NPC girls out there), we always sing "Closer to Fine" by the Indigo Girls when we talk about our sisterhood. And then when the girls are getting ready to leave, we bring them into a circle and cross arms and hold hands and sing our sorority song...

"Dear tomo dachi,
we will ever be true
show by our lives that we honor
the white and the blue

in our circle we learn to know
the dearest finest girls
we will be true as through life we go
wearing the circle
of pearls. "
(PS, I cried when we sang it this year at Final, because I was a Rho Chi and had been away from the girls for almost a month).

but other than that...we have "We love you Deltas"

We love you Deltas deep down in our hearts
we love you deltas deep down in our hearts
talkin' bout deep deep
o down down
deep down in our hearts!

Fraternity no.2 had Brothers sing a Gaelic Blessing in a glee club-esque way before the event was over. At first, I thought the singing thing was kinda weird, but the actual song was touching. I think it works for sororities too...

Gaelic Blessing

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
and the rain fall upon your fields

and until we meet again
until we meet again
may the sun shine warm upon your face
until we meet again

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
and the rain fall upon your fields

So until we meet again
until we meet again
may you live long in the heart ofyour home
until we meet again

In high school, I was in choir and each May at our concerts we would sing that song to our seniors. (Almost exactly this song at least... these words don't seem quite right to me.) It's absolutely beautiful!

There goes an ADPi, she holds her head up high.
The Kappa Sig's love her and gaze in her eye.
She flirts with Lambda Chi's.
She make the KA's sigh.
She can be found in the lap of a handsome Phi Delt.
She loves the Pi Kappa Phi's, and all those ATO guys.
She love the Sigma Nu boys, who make the campus noise.
She's happy as can be, with any SAE.
So fellas give a sigh,
There goes an ADPi.

We did this, too - only with different fraternities! ;)

I've always loved the song we sang at Preference.

Mmmm My Sisters

Mmmm my sisters, mmmm my sisters
Couldn't get along without you now.
Got along without you before we met you,
Couldn't get along without you now.
We gave our hearts, and so can you.
Now you can be a Delta sister too.

As for chants, my favorite is probably "Who's that Walking"

Who's that walking down the street,
Looks so cute and dressed so neat?
Folks all turn around to say,
Those Tri Delts are out today.
La di da (Go Tri Delt! Go Tri Delt!)
La di da (Go Tri Delt! Go Tri Delt!)
La di da (Go Tri Delt! Go Tri Delt!)
La di da, La di da, la di da, TRI DELT!

Got along without you before I met you can't get along without you know
I like you so but it's time to go, won't you come again anyhow.
It's been so great but it's getting late
Still we want you know that with us you rate
So to our new friends 'til we meet again
Alpha Gam says goodbye to you
So long, so long
Alpha Gam says goodbye to you

This one is my favorite

A-l-p (A-l-p)
H-a (H-a)
It sounds so good to me
Well well well well well
A-l-p (A-l-p)
H-a (H-a)
It really sounds good to me
Well well well well well
Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh
It really sounds good to me
Well well well well well

Then you repeat it with gamma and delta. It's a really pretty song.

I'm really surprised that there aren't many Alpha Gam songs on this thread

Pep and Vitality!!

If you love to laugh, and we know you do...
Gamma Phi Beta is the one for you....

A Hey Hey... Gamma Phi...
A Hay Hey... Gamma Phi...

Gamma Phi Beta is the one for you!

I also love tick tock, but I can't remember all the words!
Something like..

It's time to go it's time to say good bye...
The hands on the clock are whispering tick tock
Now RUSH along....and remember this song...

thats all I remember. Anyone else know it?

SarahGrace mentioned the Theta song that always gets caught in PNMs heads - "There's a Kite Called a Theta Kite." I definitely went home singing it after I went through Pref. ;)

Here are 2 of my other favorite Theta exit songs:

Boom Boom

Boom Boom, there'll be nothin' but Theta
Boom Boom, for the one that I love
Boom Boom, there'll be nothin' but Theta
And the twin stars up above.
There's a Theta kite for every girl that's right
And two stars up above shining down so bright.
Boom Boom, there'll be nothin' but Theta
Boom Boom for the one that I love.

Remember the Black
We sing this one at Pref.

Remember the black dear,
Remember the gold.
Remember the story that's always been told.
Remember the bonds, so faithful and true.
Remember that Theta loves no one but you.

Once you have found her, You'll find heaven there.
And for the Thetas you can't help but care.
Remember she's with you wherever you are,
Just always look for the kite and twin stars.

Remember the Black & Gold dear,
Remember the kite we fly.
Remember, when you are old dear,
Theta's with you until you die.
Remember the twin stars shining throughout eternity.
And if you remember Theta,
She'll always remember thee.

We sang that verse at camp too!!! OMG.......just thinking about "Linger" reminds me of the last night of camp every year, when we'd always have a big closing campfire with the whole camp, and we'd start out singing really loud, fun, "action" songs, and then we'd do more mellow, sentimental songs at the end, and by the time the campfire was over, and we all went to get our snacks and go to bed, a LOT of people (including me!!!) would be crying. Oh, and there was also a candle-lighting ceremony in the chapel on either the last night, or the second-last night of camp, just for the older girls (senior--age 13--right up to the female counsellors and senior staff). Basically, people would get up and do songs and poems about camp, and friendship and other stuff like that, and then at the end, we'd each get a candle with a piece of gimp tied around it, the person at the front (a counsellor) would light her candle, and then pass the flame to the person next to her, and so on, until all our candles were lit. We were told that if the wax dripped, that meant we'd be back.....the year I was sixteen, it was my last year of Leadership, and I really wanted to be a counsellor the next year, but I didn't get hired, and I was really upset about it, as I'd been going to that camp since I was ten, and I had so many friends and memories there.....heck, I still have the paddle I decorated in my last year. But you know what? My candle wax dripped, so maybe I will go back someday, you never know.

Edited to add: I'm sorry for hijacking your thread with my pointless story, lol.

GammaIota1009 05-19-2005 10:23 AM

This song is called Pass it on. It always makes me cry at Pref night.

A house thats filled with love, a sisterhood thats growing
Each time we leave this place we always come back knowing
we found the love of Alpha Gam. Once you've experienced it the feelings rare and one thats shared youll want to pass it on.
We're sisters old and new together now and always.
And when school days are through, we always come back knowing.
We found the love of Alpha Gam, Once you've experienced it the feeling's rare and one that shared, you'll want to pass it on.

Another song I love is-

We are the sisters of Alpha Gam
Alpha- Gamma-Delt-a
We want the whole wide world to know that we love our sisters so.
We love our colors we love our squirrels and our pearls too and our pearls too.
Our re and buff roses, everone knows that we love them we do, we love them we do.
In our hearts there's love and there's laughter. Sorority life is just what we're after, we want to tell. We want to tell ya- Welcome to Alpha Gamma Delt-a

We sang Linger at my GS camp as well. Our candlelight ceremony was really special too. It started with the camp director with only their candle lit and all the girls around the pool, and the camp director would read the first paragraph. After the first paragraph there was apause and the candlelight would be past from girl to girl. After the poem, the candles were left to float on the pool.

"a candle is but a simple thing
it starts with just a bit of string
yet dipped and dipped with patient hand
it gathers wax upon the strand
until complete and snowy white
it gives at last, a lovely light

life is so like that bit of string
each deed we do a simple thing
Yet day-by-day if on life's strand
We work with patient heart and hand
It gathers joy, makes dark days bright
And gives at last a lovely light."

I want to use that for final party SO FREAKING BADLY. The reason we used it at girl scout camp was to inspire the girls to become women. Even when I became a counselor, I cried every single time we had candlelight. Singing Taps and the camp song was always really really hard.

That's really beautiful, PhoenixAzul!!! :) You know, I think you should use it maybe for initiation if you want to (and if it's okay with the other girls in your chapter, of course), because if it can inspire young Girl Scouts to become women, then I think it could also have the power to inspire newly-initiated Tau Delta sisters to give their heart and soul to the sorority, or if you're using it for pref night, it could inspire the rushees to listen to their hearts, and do their best to become an asset to whichever group they choose in the end. By the way, I'm sorry if suggesting that you use that song for initiation crosses any kind of "secret ritual" boundaries, I just thought that since it's already meaningful to you, and appropriate for the situation, it'd be perfect.

Favorite Phi Sig song/chant... which we do all the time, and it is sadly getting old is

Northern Girls are tough
Southern Girls are sweet
East has got the stuff
West has got the beat

We know how to slam
We know how to Jam
Phi Sig! Phi Sig!
Oh hot damn....

Whoahhh
*Phi Sigma Sigma
Phi *Sigma Sigma
Phi Sigma *Sigma
Hoat

Favorite song though would probably be our sister song... I'll remember you....

hottytoddy 05-25-2005 03:48 AM

My fav of ours is

My Phi Mu lady, won't you be my baby
you know I love you, indeed I do
And in the springtime, it will be ring time
in a cottage that's built for 2,3,4,5,6
you know I love you and want you only--
(screamed) CAN'T YOU HEAR ME SAYIN THAT I LOVE YOU TRUE!
MYYY PHIII MU!
La-dy, won't you be my baby
my phi mu lady, I love you (clap clap)

then start over

It's kinda hard to describe the tune of it, but it's fun to sing.

alphaxikt 07-27-2005 11:49 PM

Alpha Xi Coke Song

here's the version my chapter used:

do do do do do we're Alpha Xi Delta
do do do do do always Alpha Xi
do do do do do we're Alpha Xi Delta
do do do do do always Alpha Xi

(swaying)

Alpha Xi, Alpha Xi, Delta, Delta
Alpha Xi, Alpha Xi, Delta, Delta
Alpha Xi will always be the very best sorority
Alpha, we're Alpha Xi

never saw a house so good
Alpha Alpha
never saw a house so good
Delta Delta

never saw a house so good
join us now, we think you should

Alpha, we're Alpha Xi DELTA!

AUDeltaGam 07-28-2005 12:51 AM

Our coke song (or as much as I can remember:p )

The stars will always shine, the birds will always sing
As long as you're a DG you're doing the right thing
Delta Gamma sisters are always the one
It's here that you belong, Delta G is the real one

There are more verses, but it's quite cute. When I find my lists of songs, I'll add to it :)

sigmaK619 08-02-2005 09:42 PM

I love, love, love this becuase it is a song that we get to snap to instead of clap..

Goodbye ladies from your host
We are the best sorority from coast to coast
A look at us will tell you why, ask any guy he'll tell you no lie

You gotta look sharp, be sharp too, you gotta feel fine swinging through, you gotta be sharp everyday, that's why they all say go Sigma K

Ladies when your home in bed
Let Sigma K run through your head
As for us our hope for you
We hope our hope is your hope too

(Repeat "you gotta look sharp...")

I recently learned a new exit song from the Alpha Xi's at GA State:

We're Alpha Xi Delta and we're glad you came
We hope that tomorrow you'll be back again
The time will go so fast, that you will see
You'll wanna be an Alpha Xi, Like me

(tune similar to "this is the song that doesnt end" - not exactly, but very close)

Here's my favorite song that we sing.

Smile Pep
You can tell a Chi O by her
Charm style
Men around her all the while
Smile pep charm style
That's what we have
Most of all you'll love our laugh!

BUT one of my favorite non-XO songs is the one from Alpha Chi (and someone correct me if I say it wrong)

A-L-P-H-A
C-e-a hi Omega
A-L-P-H-A C-H-I
Omega!

We are the Alpha Chi's and we are really great!
We wear the golden lyre there is no mistake!
We are the greatest girls here at (enter school letters)

(Repeat spelling part)

It was so catchy I always walked around the rest of the day humming it!

You can add to that one too at the end

some people say "Like Me" the next group says "Like Me" the last group says "Like Us" of course it's all done really fast

At UNCA, Alpha Xi does this great song:

A-L-P-H-A, Alpha, A-L-P-H-A
D-E-L-T-A, Delta, D-E-L-T-A
We are the Alpha Xi Delta's
We are the ones for you and you
We are the Alpha Xi Delta's
Dont you wanna be an Alpha Xi too?

and a good welcoming in song (sorry I had to do this one too)

I AM AN ALPHA
I AM A XI
I AM AN ALPHA XI DELTA SORORITY GIRL
AND I HAVE AZD SPIRIT IN MY H-E-A-R-T
AND I WILL L-O-V-E LOVE IT
ALL THE T-I-M-E TIME!

:)

I am VP of recruitment/head Rho Chi so I don't get to sing these songs...its going to be SO hard to have to listen to my girls doing it :( Yeah AZD!

Hey hey I wanta go ADPI
Hey hey and baby that aint no lie
hey hey I wanta go ADPI
Dont you, dont you *and you do a cute little point at the people lol*

Hey hey I wanta wear white and blue
hey hey and wear that diamond too
hey hey I wanta go ADPI
dont you, dont you

No doubt there is no other
so come on in and see
sisterhood forever
ADPI for you and me
hey hey hey

And Pi Phi's was great also, but again a little different..

Pi Pi Beta Phi
P-I- P-H-I Pi Phi
me for Pi for Beta Phi
for I just love Pi Beta Phi

Chi Omega's went like this (entrance song):

Chi Omega, Chi Chi Omega
C-H-I-O-M-E-G-A,
Chi Omega you'll agree
is the best sorority
Chi Omega, Go Chi O
Go, Go, Go!

We did "Boom Boom" too, but when I was there we changed the "booms" or "heys" to just claps. We also got rid of the slow "we really are sisters...." ending part. Sounded SO much better!!!

I also LOVE those Pi Phi and Chi-O songs! The chapters on my campus sang those, and I ALWAYS remembered those from rush!

My all-time favorite was Pi Pi ADPi (not sure if it has been posted yet).

Pi Pi ADPi
Like it love it ADPi
Want it, need it, gotta repeat it
I just love my ADPi

When I was a growin high
Always wanted ADPi
Even then I always knew
How much I loved that white and blue

:D

I'm probably aging myself here but ADPi had a different song when I went through recruitment. I'm sure adpiucf would know it better but their song use to be:

Alpha, Alpha, Alpha Delta Pi
Like it? Love it!
Yes oh-me oh-my (I think...)
I'm in the best sorority,
It may be on earth but it's heaven to me
Alpha, Alpha, Alpha Delta Pi

I know ZTA changed their song, too. It used to be:

Zeta, Zeta, I'm a UCF Z-T-A
Zeta, Zeta, I'm a UCF Z-T-A
Z is for Zeta
T is for Tau
A is for Alpha
And together they all spell
Zeta, Zeta, I'm a UCF Z-T-A

Yup! It really is "Boom Boom," but we adapted it--- We changed it from "Boom Boom" to "Hey Hey" to suit our chapter. The UCF Tri-Deltas have long-used a chant that goes "Ba-doom, Ba-doom Tri-Delta" and since we introduced "Boom Boom" in 2000, we decided to adapt our song-- less confusion for PNMs trying to learn songs and out of respect for our Pan-sisters across the street! :)

ZTAngel, it changed the year after you came through! We sang "Alpha Alpha" FOR years and then decided to mix it up!

And some trivia for YOU! When I came through, ZTA sang that song, but it was:

Zeta, Zeta, Zeta Zeta Z-T-A
Zeta, Zeta, Zeta Zeta Z-T-A
Z is for Zeta
T is for Tau
A is for Alpha
And together they all spell
Zeta, Zeta, Zeta Zeta Z-T-A!

They changed it the year you went through. I remember standing at the ZTA house (I was one of the recruitment counselors!) and thinking "Oh I love that little change!"

ADPi's who sing "Bye Bye"-- talk about the song that doesn't end! To this day, if any person says "Bye Bye" to me, whether in person, on the phone, etc., I start hearing that song in my head!!!!

My favorite chapter song is "Now and Forever"-- we changed the words a little to suit our sisterhood and no matter where I am when I hear it (like bye-bye!!!) it always says "ADPi" to me!

ETA: I still have UCF sorority recruitment songs in my head! You know how you're supposed to brush your teeth for at least 2 minutes? Well, if you sing the Greek Alphabet 4 times in a row... you're about there!
