Good luck! Have fun and let us all know how it all went!
|
Rachel,
Have a wonderful time throughout recruitment...I know you'll knock them dead! :) (Anyone else a little shocked by the 4-5 minute first round parties????) |
Rachel,
Good Luck tomorrow! |
I'm back!!!!
Well I lost the sheet with the different color translations so I guess I'll just make up new colors for all the other houses not previously discussed...... purple: You know when everyone says that they can just tell they were at home? I finally know what everyone has been talking about. I just felt it. Like I felt so comfortable....I could just see myself there. Brown: I wasn't really crazy about the girl I was talking to though, but one of my rush group buddies LOVED so who knows, I'm sure it could be awesome! Black: While the girl I talked to I LOVED, I saw like half of my high school, and I just really don't know if it was for me...I know I could never really see myself there but I could be happy still. Red: I was so ridiculously nervous at this house that I am sure I sounded like a complete wreck. I really hope they invite me back though!!! (Their outfits were really cute here too, I loved the matching black Steve Madden sandals!!) Pink: Well, I had preconcieved notions coming into this house, and one of the girls I talked to confirmed it, but the second girl, the Panhellenic Rep, made me fall in love with this house. I talked about how I was interested in being the NPC Rep here and by the end, I really loved the house. The girl reminded me of my rho chi at USC, who I also loved. Orange: I had a good conversation with my rusher, but as this is one of the houses towards the middle, my memory is getting a little bit hazy. However, I know I could be at home here as well. Yellow: The girl I talked to here was nice, but looking at the girls in this house, I knew I would never really feel at home here. This is the only house that I think I would probably not accept a bid at. Green: The girl I talked to here wasn't a particularly great rusher, but I could tell she LOVED her house sooo much. I know I could feel at home here because of my friend in this house from Psych. White: Don't remember much about this house, but I could have been at home here. If I get invited back, I will tell you tomorrow. Blue: My rusher was awesome here and I really enjoyed the house. I would be happy here. Coral: Well, I loved this house. These girls definitly lived up to their reputation of beingthe "intelligent" house. I had such an awesome convo with my rusher about psychology and economics and direction in life. The girls also were dressed so nicely and had the cutest matching red shoes, belts, and bows on their nametags!! I have a feeling that I will be dropped here because of my grades, but if not, I would be happy here! The only other thing that worries me here is the fact that I was totally looking at a girl in purple, not paying attention to this house when I was supposed to go in. Oh well, we'll know tomorrow. While writing this I managed to burn the quesadilla I was cooking (and ignoring) so now I smell Vera Wang mixed with burnt tortilla. |
I can't wait to hear about the rest of your experience! Sounds like you had a blast! I hope it continues!
|
Glad you had a good time! Keep us updated!
|
Ok, so I was just looking at Purple's website and I am just so much in love with this house...if I get cut from them tomorrow morning (not even 11 hours away!!!) I think (ok, I KNOW) that I will be devastated....I'm praying that I'm asked back!!! Oh well, I will know tomorrow morning. And since it's getting so "late" given that I have to be up before seven to drive to the MU to get my list, I think I'm going to get ready for bed. I will post with where I got invited back to (purple, please....) tomorrow morning.
|
i am glad that you had a good time! ***hoping that you get purple invites
|
Good luck with your invitations!!!!

I loved all the houses except for pink and yellow. Pink seemed very into the fake n' bake and peppiness...not me....but I loved purple and coral soooooo much!!! Ok, well I'm off now, I'll let you all know more later!!!
|
it's so exciting you are having a great time!!!
best wishes!!!! |
I'm crossing my fingers for you!:D
|
thinking good thoughts for you today....
|
Well, I just got the news....I was cut from:
Pink: Alpha Chi Omega Brown: Pi Beta Phi White: Gamma Phi Beta Looking back on yesterday though, these were all the houses that I wasn't a fan of. Today I'm going back to Yellow, Purple, Orange, and Coral. The last three I LOVE!!! The only thing I'm worried about is that I have less than five invites back.....and that I already KNOW the three that I want to pref with. What should I do/say so I'm not cut?! I'm really afraid that I will be, and I don't at all want to be, because I LOVE all these chapters!!! Also, I've already asked about philanthropies, leadership, date parties, etc....what other questions can I ask? |
HELP!!!!!!

Well first off, CALM DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:) No one can tell you what to do or say. To be the GC broken record: BE YOURSELF. They've liked you so far, so don't change now. These are people that you are going to be spending a VERY large portion of your college career with. DON'T's don't act like a total idiot (i think you've got that one covered) don't talk about other groups don't talk about how you don't like the 4th house don't try to plan out your conversations- have a couple questions in mind, yeah, but don't write a script :) Let it flow! DO's be calm, cool, and collected (easier said than done) HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!! (majorly important) make sure the house knows how much you're interested- but don't be like "this is the only house i want" etc. etc. Find the fuzzy medium :) Just settle down- go take a walk, do something, anything to get your mind off of it. Don't stress and freak out, it's not going to help you :) |
Rachel, remember that you're only going to be able to accept ONE bid, so don't stress out that you don't have the full compliment of invitations right now. You have 3 houses that you LOVE, and that's what's important.
What do you talk about? What does Rachel like? Just like everyone else has stressed, be yourself. You've shown yourself to be an outgoing, fun woman this far (and here on GC), so whatever you're doing, just keep it up. I would suggest that, if you've talked to Sister A about something in particular, ask her about it to show that you remembered talking to her. Every example I can think of right now sounds contrived, but say that Sister A mentioned that she went to Florida for Spring Break last year. Ask her if she plans to go there again, where did she stay, would she recommend it - that sort of thing. Yeah, weird example, but I'm running on fumes... :) Have fun, and be yourself! |
Rachael,
Don't worry about what to talk about...that is why we in the chapters train for recruitment. Just show your enthusiasm for being there and things will work themselves through. |
the important thing is that you are very much still in the game...
and you've got places you love still available. can you ask for better? just plan on having a good time and some good conversation and i bet you'll be real happy. |
Best PNM advice that I was given and have given is to be Genuine!
After I first joined and even after that, I had members tell me that they loved me and I stuck out during rush because they could tell I was really genuine and really wanted to be part of their sisterhood. When you meet twenty to thirty girls a day, a rusher can usually easily see through the ones that are faking their enthusiasm and those that are truly excited. So, just be yourself and it will all work out! A little side note, I don't know if people will agree with me but what I did when I was entering the house was to let my rusher know that I was so excited to be back. Similarly, when I was leaving the house, I also nonchalantly told my rusher that I hoped to see her tomorrow. Houses are not allowed to tell you anything like that (its like a verbal bid or promise) but there are no rules (or at least at my school) against a PNM saying it. However, its key NOT TO OVERDO IT. Just say it casually and it the flow of conversation and not too needy or overstated. Okay, sorry if that is too wordy or lond-winded but my cousin who was Recuitment Chair of her sorority said it is a good way to let the house know you like them and want to come back. It sounds like you have three amazing houses to go to today and I wish you lots of luck! |
Again, as others have said...just be yourself! I think most would agree that we want sisters who are genuinely excited about being there, and we can pick out who's really being sincere and who's there because "they have to be" and aren't interested in our organization. You'll do wonderfully....any of your remaining organizations would be thrilled to have a peach of a woman like you!
|
Aww sweetie its ok. Really just be yourself, the conversation will come, you have just got to relax and hav fun. and dont worry so much about being cut, you will end up where you belong :) Good Luck and I hope everthing works out for ya :)

Just be yourself, girl - and good luck! :)
|
