Most of the people I work with are older and don't really talk about college life...but I do work with a graduate student who is a Delta Sigma Theta. She's SO awesome...we have these great conversations about Classics stuff. :)

HotDamnImAPhiMu 08-18-2003 06:08 PM

Is it just me or do y'all find you have a special link when you're dating other greeks?

I've dated three and felt like each time I was a little better "understood" -- maybe because those of us who take greek life so seriously (i.e. feel the need to participate on greekchat!) usually had a very different experience than others realize.

I'm not at school anymore, but still have a ton of Phi Mu stuff, wear my letters occasionally (especially to run -- who else has a ton of event t-shirts?) and am excited to go to sisterhood events. I find myself explaining again and again that no, it's not just a college thing and no, it's not just about getting drunk and sleeping with fraternity members.

There's just something about a guy who doesn't have to be told all that. :D

The very first conversation we had, Mr. Hi I'm 20 And A Sigma Chi said, "You're one of the weird ones, aren't you?" I just kinda blinked and frowned, and he said -- "It's OK. I am too. One of the ones that wears letters everywhere and knows all the words to all the songs."

*sigh* He's so pretty.

I work with a Phi Sigma Kappa and at one of our stores near school there are 3 Lambda Chi Alphas that work there and an ADPi (that went alum before I joined) used to work there.

DeltAlum 08-19-2003 10:57 AM

There are only two people in the company I work for now, but there is an older Delt from the University of Colorado (Beta Kappa) whom I've known for quite a while working in the office immediately next door.

We have worked together on a number of projects for the local alumni group.

gamma_girl52 08-19-2003 12:27 PM

I work for the Student Services Department so there are quite a few Greeks:

Greek Advisor: Alpha Xi Delta
Student Advocate: Phi Beta Sigma
Diversity: Zeta Phi Beta
New Sudent Orientation: Delta Sigma Theta
Housing: Alpha Kappa Alpha

And then us student workers:
Me: Gamma Sigma Sigma
Community Service: Alpha Phi Alpha
SGA: Phi Beta Sigma

There are probably more on both ends, but these are people I know!

One of the secrataries is/was a Sigma Omicron Pi (SOPi):D IF I keep digging, I'll find more dirt! (insert evil laugh here):p

CrimsonTide4 08-27-2003 02:26 PM

I work with about 6 or 7 sorors, a Zeta, an Alpha, a Kappa, a Que. . .D9 Represent!! :D

MeLikey 09-09-2003 07:18 PM

Just found out today, my supervisor's an SAE-- I immediately lit up and was like I love SAEs!

HotDamnImAPhiMu 09-09-2003 08:45 PM

So I gotta admit I have butterflies. The Sigma Chi and I got to talking about pinning, and I told him I wanted to see his pledges get pinned -- I really do love seeing it. It makes me think of when I was pinned.

So I kind of invited myself, and then later he was like, "yeah, don't forget about Saturday... I'll take you to the wine & cheese before, as my date."

date? yes/no? thoughts?

Man. If only he wasn't 20. I have so never, ever dated a guy younger than me -- he's 2 yrs. And I highly suspect he's in a "sleep with anything that moves" stage....

bluz4 09-09-2003 08:49 PM

at my paper, i know of 3 AKAs, 1 Delta, 1 Alpha, and another reporter and I are Zetas.

volgirl2376 09-09-2003 09:06 PM

My boss is a ZTA, and I also work with an AXO and KKG. My BF is a Phi Tau :)

DeltaBetaBaby 09-29-2003 08:50 PM

Okay, one guy has a huge Pike paddle hanging in his cube. I want to do something subtler to indicate that I am a Greek to maybe get some others to talk about it. Any ideas how to bring it up in the workplace in a classy manner?

MereMere21 09-29-2003 09:15 PM

hmm the ones I know of:

Kappa Delta

Alpha Omicron Pi

Alpha Gamma Delta x 3 - all of whom I went to school with :D

Sigma Nu

Its hard to bring it up at work unless you or someone else has a t-shirt or jewelry on - its so much fun though when you do find out!

I have a pic of the girls standing on the steps of the house hanging in my cubicle - other Greeks have noticed it and asked me about it. It's the kind of thing that other Greeks will notice but civilians (LOL) will not. Unless of course, you are in the sort of workplace where any personal pics are verboten.

HotDamnImAPhiMu 09-29-2003 11:24 PM

in which case, time to invest in a screen-printed t-shirt.

BabyBlue91 09-30-2003 01:08 PM

I only know of one full-timer, a Kappa Alpha Psi, but I think some of the adjuncts may be Greeks as well (I work at a college).

ZTAngel 09-30-2003 01:22 PM

The office I work at is smaller since I don't work out of the main headquarters. There are no greek people in my office besides me. There was a ZBT when I first started working here but he transfered to another office.

OleMissGlitter 09-30-2003 02:47 PM

Greeks in my Office:

TexasOphiA 09-30-2003 03:52 PM

there is me (OPA) and then one of the girls is a ZTA.

KerriMarie 10-01-2003 12:37 PM

I work at a Girl Scout camp in the summer, and I thought my little sister and I were the only Greeks who worked there... but I found out last night that there are a bunch of former counselors who went greek after their camping days - a Kappa Delta, an Alpha Phi, a Gamma Phi Beta, and an Alpha Xi Delta. Wow! That's more sorority girls than I would expect to be in the woods... :)

babyhootie 10-02-2003 11:13 AM

One of my instructors this semester is also a Sigma Alpha Epsilon from Marshall University.

New Job...

I posted here last while at my old job where I was the ONLY member of any type of GLO.

Now I am at a new very large company (large enough that you have all probably heard of it) so I know that I am no longer the only greek there...and actually an ADPi really was the driving force behind me while I was applying.

I love having GLO members all around me...:D

It's been a while but I found out one of our lawyers is either a Theta Delta Chi or Gamma Delta Chi from Dartmouth.

rho4life 10-27-2003 09:01 PM

Not my workplace, but close by...

We recently had a fire drill, where we had to walk down several flights of stairs, and then we could take the elevator back up to our floor. Imagine my suprise when I noticed a poster for an Omega Psi Phi event near the elevators. I resisted the urge to do my call to see if I could find the Omega, b/c I'm sure it would have scared my co-workers. My GLO certs w/ induction dates are on the wall in my office, and when my boss first saw them she said "Oh no, you're a sorority girl!" I pointed out to her that I was also a fraternity girl, b/c I'm in a professional org. She didn't take that well, but she's not a "people" person.

The second instance of a greek near my office was actually one that my mom found. She and a woman in her office were talking, and they realized that my mom's co-worker and I are in the same sorority. We finally met for lunch, and it was like we had known each other forever, even though this soror had crossed in '89, and on the east coast, and we met in CA.

Whew, sorry for that run on sentence, but I just got carried away!

At the department I work at, the dean is an AKA.

DigitalAngel126 10-28-2003 04:02 PM

One of the nurses that trained me at the first nursing home I was at was an Alpha Phi. She was neat. That is all.

He's neither. He pledged Alpha Delta.:)

Beryana 10-28-2003 05:32 PM

I just started a new job a few weeks ago and found out that one of my co-workers is an Alpha Chi Omega from Ripon! This is really cool since there are only about 10 people that work there are we are in central Wisconsin.

But so far, that is all that I've noticed.
Also, I have a Soror (Alpha Kappa Alpha) that works there at Florida Tech. My boss is also an Alpha Kappa Alpha Woman! :D

ThetaGrrl 10-28-2003 07:18 PM

We've got a Sigma Nu, a Sigma Kappa, a G-Phi, a Sigma Pi, and me, a Theta!

In my old office, there was another Theta, a Tri-Delt, a Sig Ep, and the old National President of SAE (Bill Woods)...

ADqtPiMel 10-30-2003 07:35 PM

in our office we have 2 ADPis, 2 GPhiBs, 1 AOPi, 1 Kappa, and 1 Chi O. :D

lifesaver 10-31-2003 03:51 AM

I work with a Sigma Chi from SWT. I Think thats it.

DaisyCrazy 10-31-2003 10:44 AM

The Greeks in my office consist of me (AXO) and my boss (AZD). I work at the airport w/ a bunch of technicians who did not go to 4-year colleges, but 2-year trade schools. Therefore, not many Greeks!

mccoyred 10-31-2003 02:25 PM

Out of approximately 600 people in my dept in my bldg, I personally know at least a dozen sorors, a handful of AKAs, and a couple of Kappas, Alphas and Omegas.

One of my quadmates is a Gamma Sigma Sigma.

dzrose93 10-31-2003 04:16 PM

I work with 2 ZTA's, a D Phi E, a Phi Sigma Sigma, and an LXA.
