Queen Latifah, Chaka Khan at awards
Queen Latifah needs to lose the hippy-dippy clothes. Peasant doesn't get it.
Also, Chaka shouldn't wear tight clothing. Speaking as, ahem, one who has a similar "pooch," loose is better. |

[B]4-1-1 ENTERTAINMENT FOR THE WEEK OF JUNE 2, 2003 Did Ruben win by default? A telecommunications company claims there were 240 thousand misdialed calls. OH PLEEEZZZEEE! IT’S OVER RUBEN WON…GET OVER IT! I am so sick of these stories. HE WON..HE WON…RUBEN WON! Last week I mentioned how Simon would be leaving the show. Trust me Simon will be back for a third season of American Idol. There is too much money involved and Simon is part owner of the show. Last week Star Jones from the ABC Show ‘The View’ revealed how she got a lots of hate emails because she supported Ruben as the choice for American Idol. Star said she got hundreds of emails telling her to go back to Africa and take Ruben with her. Sometimes we think everything is okay and that we have made great strides but there will always be someone or something that will remind us that racism is alive and well in America. __________________________________________________ It's soooo funny how that when Tamyra lost, no one was hollering DEFAULT or Telecom error then. Why don't they just accept the fact that Rueben won and be done with this whole thing. It's been how long since the show ended..........    |
For the Legally Blonde Fans......

I cannot wait for Bad Boys 2!! I know it's going to be great. Did anyone see National Security? I really enjoyed it too...
Ashanti is defintely switching up styles. I'm sure it has to do with moving her away from the 'Murder' image. Being part of a company that's being investigated for drugs can't be good for your career. But not being able to sing all that well hasn't hurt her, so you never know... I'm glad Vivian Green is getting recognition. She has a great voice and is talented. I can't wait to see her in concert next week!!:D |

Malika Yoba's Whereabouts
Phoenix, AZ - What seems to be a throw back to the Twilight Zone is actually a stirring piece of cinema that has recently won BEST SHORT FILM at the 2003 Phoenix Film Festival. Directed by up and comer Joe Eckardt, this film challenges you to reassess where we are today in regards to race. Malik Yoba stars in the 17 minute film and delivers a powerful performance as a black man lost in a white man's world. Yoba, made famous in the series television series New York Undercover, plays an independent black man who finds himself lost. What he finds is a pocket of life stuck in another era, where prejudice and intolerance are accepted. Ultimately, he must try to escape without losing his life. As the story unfolds, so do our ideas about how far we have really come since the civil rights era. Eckardt, being Colombian, knew that he wanted to tell a story that could transcend races and gender, which is what he did. The film played to a packed audience who hopefully took home their own interpretation of DREAMING IN BLACK AND WHITE. Currently the film can be seen at the upcoming SAN FRANCISCO BLACK FILM FESTIVAL and will screen in HOLLYWOOD in July at HYPEFEST. |

Eminem's Ex-Wife Facing Possible Cocaine Charges
Eminem's ex-wife, Kimberly Mathers, is facing possible cocaine possession charges after police found a white powder in her car early Tuesday morning.
The rapper's 28-year-old former high school sweetheart was pulled over near Detroit around 2:30 a.m. and arrested for driving without a license, according to a spokesperson for the St. Clair Shores Police Department. Authorities searched Mathers and the white Cadillac Escalade she was driving and turned up two small bags of what they believe to be cocaine. The material is being tested by the Michigan State Police crime lab. Mathers was traveling with another woman on Interstate 94 near 12 Mile Road when she was pulled over for an undisclosed traffic violation. She was later freed pending charges, according to the spokesperson, who said officers are still investigating. In July 2001 Mathers was arrested on felony cocaine possession, but the charges were later dropped. Eminem and Mathers divorced in October 2001 but have reportedly reconciled. Mathers is the subject of some of Eminem's most violent songs, including one called "Kim," a fictional account of the rapper murdering her. —Corey Moss |

Y'all are some crazy so and so's...
I don't think the outfits from the Diva's Live show was Tina Knowles. Those outfits were from a REPUTABLE designer. :o :p I think that's what I heard on Extra, ET, or E! Tina's designs are more "cut up". Afrochic doesn't post regularly, but you can count on her to give us the SKOOP! Thanks! :D |

Orlando Jones to Get Late-Night Talk Show
Jun 16, 2:12 PM (ET)
By The Associated Press LOS ANGELES (AP) - In the crowded neighborhood of late-night talk shows, Orlando Jones wants to move in and become the rowdy resident who shakes up the block. The "The Orlando Jones Show," debuting Monday night on the FX cable network, features the popular former 7-Up TV spokesman pledging to break what he called the stale humor of his late-night rivals. Among the sketches, Jones plays a researcher at an institute studying the palm-slapping, finger-jabbing moves of street handshakes. He also plays the pitchman for bandages that match the skin tones of black people, from "Morgan Freeman Black (with freckles)" to "Halle Berry Latte." If that sounds offensive, Jones says you're too uptight - or too old. The 35-year-old actor-comedian said he's "not looking at the world the way people who are 50 look at it." Instead of having a band, he hired pop and R&B producer Dallas Austin to add music to the show. He also discarded the traditional talk-show decor. "A desk and a cityscape is really kind of boring," Jones said. "It's not me. ... I want a sofa, something Italian, sexy, sleek, that looks like a club I'm going to." Among his first guests: Adrien Brody, the Oscar-winning star of "The Pianist," and Michael Chiklis of FX's crime series "The Shield," a program that proved to Jones that the network would stand by edgy material. Half-hour episodes will air Monday through Thursday with a rerun on Fridays. |

RIP Blacula
'Blacula' actor William Marshall dead
Tuesday, June 17, 2003 Posted: 11:00 AM EDT (1500 GMT) LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Actor William Marshall, who played a variety of roles, from Shakespeare's "Othello" on stage, to "Blacula" in the camp movie classic, died Wednesday. He was 78. Marshall, who suffered in recent years from Alzheimer's disease, died in a Los Angeles rest home. The actor appeared in dozens of films and in popular TV series such as "Star Trek" in the 1960s and "The Jeffersons" in the 1980s. He taught acting workshops at colleges and at the Mufandi Institute in Watts, where he served as director in the 1960s. On stage, Marshall portrayed singer Paul Robeson and statesman Frederick Douglass, a role he spent 15 years researching. He eventually played the part of the famed abolitionist on television. Marshall was born in Gary, Indiana, and studied acting at the Actors Studio and the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City after spending several years as an art student at New York University. He played the Moorish king in "Othello" in Europe and in the United States. The London Sunday Times once hailed him as "the best Othello of our time." Marshall brought the same dignity to the title role in the 1972 movie, "Blacula" and its sequel, "Scream, Blacula, Scream!" First conceived as a dimwitted count, Marshall modeled the character on the original Count Dracula in Bram Stoker's 19th century novel. |
Mekhi Phifer slams ex-wife
The 8 Mile star Mekhi Phifer has launched a harsh attack on his ex-wife Malinda Williams, after she spoke out about his infidelity. Actress Williams, who has a son with the ER star, blames the actor for their marriage meltdown -- and now he's fired back. He rants, "I was 23 when she got pregnant. You want to do the right thing – what society deems as being the right thing. She wanted a structured family lifestyle that she was used to growing up. The women are dominant matriarchs in her family and the men are subversive, subservient and subdued. Me? I come from a family of men – grown-ass men handling their business. "It's easy for a woman to say, 'He cheated on me and did this and that.' Look, I'm a very sexual person – I love to make love. In the morning, stink breath? I want to make love. At night after champagne, I want to make love. Women have to let men be men, not walk over them. If you are dealing with a yellow-bellied, no backbone muthaf***a, then okay. I'm a mover and a shaker – a king. "I didn't want to be home anymore. We had nothing to talk about because she didn't know the people I knew. Any argument that we had, 90 percent of the time, I didn't know what the f**k she was talking about. There was just tension in the house and she couldn't be sympathetic. I didn't ask her to cook, clean, nothing. I had cleaning ladies, all that s**t. "But if you want your man to be there with you, you have to be there with him, too – a stimulus for a muthaf***a. For most of the relationship, I was the mover and shaker, she was home complaining. "I was young. I had an ideology of what I was doing, but it wasn't the right thing with that particular person. She's a great mom; I'm a great dad. But we weren't made for each other. You can't teach an old dog new tricks." :( I don't want anyone talking bad about "Bird" (Malinda Williams)... have ya'll read her interview in Honey? |
Yes, I read the article in Honey. She said that she used to always find numbers in his pants pockets or in his car. She even had to BEG him to come to the birth of their child. ***SMH***

Reportedly, Brandy and her husband are separated.
I got a tip on a new book by Michael Jordan's sister. I heard part of the interview this morning on my way to work. It sounded juicy. Sis and Mike have not spoken in 5 years. |

She also said that nobody in her family wanted her to publish the book but she's been trying since early 90's. Its out but only via website(claiming that barnes/noble, walden books and other outlets will not sell the book b/c mj was the greatest, etc.). |
