Hollister DXiChi, I don't know how your school does this, but at my school, the student activities people have a list of faculty that can be advisors. You should find out if your school has one, and if it does, you can go to those teachers's offices and ask them about it. Good luck! Pm me if you have any other questions/concerns.

Possibly Quitting

Okay, so I know that I've been the Phi Gam cheerleader, but I can't take this anymore. I can't do everything anymore and my sisters seem to not do much compared to everything I've done. This has taken a tole on my grades, my personal relationships, and my relationship with God (a very big part of my life). I feel like I'm letting my sorority down because once I quit, we'll fold. :( I dunno... There's the latest update from my neck of the woods.

TriDeltaGal 02-24-2004 01:59 AM

Ahh, I'm sorry to hear about all of your up and downs in your sorority. Good Luck with any decision you make!

HollisterDXiChi 02-24-2004 11:42 AM

All I can say is hang in there girl. Don't give up. Running DXi on my own is really hard. Im taking some hard classes too that require a lot of my time. But also running this sorority requires a lot of my time. You can only do so much at a time. Budget your time and keep to it. Give yourself this much time for the sorority and that much time for school and keep to it. Like I said, you can only do so much-you only have so many hands and so many legs. The ladies in my sorority thought that as President I was supposed to do absolutely everything-Im not. There are chairs and offices that are assigned specific duties and they should keep to them and not expect you to do everything...thats not how it works. There is no U in Sisterhood (that was cheesey, yeah I know:rolleyes: ) ...make time for yourself, school and your sorority and Do Not Give up or Give In! Good luck girl!

Sometimes I really think it's better for a chapter to close than to continue struggling - if you're truly lacking in members and are having a hard time accomplishing anything due to your size, why stay open? Sure, sororities are work, but they're also supposed to be fun.

HollisterDXiChi 02-24-2004 11:56 AM

It also depends on how long they have been trying. Did she say how long their sorority had been up and running? I may have missed that but if its only been like a semester or two...don't close down. You may want to try new ways of getting girls in, make your sorority a little more "appealing"-a sisterhood girls would want to join. I dunno...If you are not happy in it and you know that feeling wont change anytime soon...you know what you need to do :) Good luck with whatever decision that is :

Officially Quitting

As much as I love my sisters, I feel newly betrayed. I talked to the Greek advisor about Songfest while we were at Panhel last night and I felt like a moron. :( She explained to me that our Songfest chair and IGPB rep should have done more than complain to me that they had no idea of what was going on. She explained to me that they should have approached people and they didn't. As I said, I feel embarrassed and betrayed because had my sisters put in even a little bit of effort we would be participating in Songfest.

Please do not think this in the only factor because it's much more than feeling betrayed- I need a sisterhood where not only can I trust my sisters, but I will not be doing all of the work. I also need a sisterhood that is more than just four or five friends whom depend on one person to make the sorority survive. Sororities are about teamwork. I need a sorority I can put my heart into and, quite honestly, my heart is no longer in Phi Gamma Pi. Thank you all for your support.

Greek to Greek,

Hugs.

Your decision is understandable. Kudos to you for putting your heart into the group though - although it was a challenge from the start of the thread you did persevere against the odds; like the old James Brown (?) lyrics, it is better to die on your feet than live on your knees.

When it comes to a point that something has irretrievably ended or broken down however, that is the time to step backwards from it. Knowing that and acting on it can take courage.

That1LoudChick, well done. Well done.

I'm sorry, That1LoudChick!!!! *HUGS*:(

Disaffiliated

I de-activated/disaffiliated from Phi Gamma Pi last night. I wish my former sisters the best of luck. A colony of ABC will be up-and-running in the fall so I may look there, but right now I'm focusing on my relationships as well as my studies. I think the best thing anyone said to me was when my Big called me last night and said "You always have a place here." I honestly think that was one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me. :)

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you find the true happiness you deserved. Good Luck to you.

ADPiAkron 03-03-2004 09:01 PM

I am so sorry to hear that! Hopefully you will find your home at KSU elsewhere....greek or not!!
