I'm hoping my wedding will be really small and really informal. As in, few enough people to fit on my parents' back deck. If there's a first dance -- and there may not be, but hey, I can always just play music while people are chit chatting -- I think it'd be great to play "Let's Call The Whole Thing Off" (an Armstrong/Fitzgerald duet.) But then, to make that work I'd need a guy who didn't take himself too seriously.
Verse Things have come to a pretty pass Our romance is growing flat, For you like this and the other While I go for this and that, Goodness knows what the end will be Oh I don't know where I'm at It looks as if we two will never be one Something must be done: Chorus - 1 You say either and I say either, You say neither and I say neither Either, either Neither, neither, Let's call the whole thing off. You like potato and I like potahto, You like tomato and I like tomahto Potato, potahto, Tomato, tomahto, Let's call the whole thing off But oh, if we call the whole thing off Then we must part And oh, if we ever part, then that might break my heart So if you like pyjamas and I like pyjahmas, I'll wear pyjamas and give up pyajahmas For we know we need each other so we , Better call the whole off off Let's call the whole thing off. Chorus - 2 You say laughter and I say larfter, You say after and I say arfter Laughter, larfter after arfter, Let's call the whole thing off, You like vanilla and I like vanella, You saspiralla, and I saspirella Vanilla vanella chocolate strawberry, Let's call the whole thing off But oh if we call the whole thing of then we must part And oh, if we ever part, then that might break my heart So if you go for oysters and I go for ersters, I'll order oysters and cancel the ersters For we know we need each other so we, Better call the calling off off, Let's call the whole thing off. Chorus - 3 I say father, and you say pater, I saw mother and you say mater Pater, mater Uncle, auntie, let's call the whole thing off. I like bananas and you like banahnahs, I say Havana and I get Havahnah Bananas, banahnahs Havana, Havahnah, Go your way, I'll go mine So if I go for scallops and you go for lobsters, So all right no contest we'll order lobseter For we know we need each other so we, Better call the calling off off, Let's call the whole thing off. |
but then I tried to talk my college roommate into playing "Let's Get It On" as her first dance. So.

my parents first song was "always and forever" - by heatwave -- everytime my ma hears that song, shes like OHHHH ITS MY WEDDING SONG..... lol, its cute :)
and of course - the last song played at ANY wedding that we go to in NY, friends or family, HAS to be "new york, new york" -- dont ask why - but even now, us living in vegas, one of our family friends from NY moved here, got married and had her wedding here in vegas - and the last song played was NY NY..... :) its a nice remembrance of home  as for my wedding song ... At Last is a beautiful song.. and ever since i was little - my mom and i would sing "groovy kind of love" together .. so she wants us to dance to that :p .... here i am planning my wedding songs ... and dont you need like ... a significant other before you can marry ?! :p |

WooWoo, for all the "At Last" by Etta James lovers...
We got married at over a month ago and that was our first dance. I danced with my Dad to Sinatra's "The Way You Look Tonight". My reception was on the Queen Mary (for all of you LA GCers) so the music throughout cocktail hour and dinner was very appropriate for the Queen Mary... lots of big band and standards music... so those two songs fit perfectly! |

If & when:
♥ fly me to the moon- sinatra ♥ |
Our first dance was "Come Away with Me" by Norah Jones.
My father daughter dance was to "In My life" by the Beatles. Our last song was -and this is so cheesy, I'm sorry-" Carolina on my Mind" by James Taylor....because the wedding was in Texas, and we moved to NC....I'm embarrased to admit that. And can you believe, we forgot to have a mother-son dance? It never even crossed my mind, and after the reception, my husbands mom told him that she had wished she could have danced with him. I was like, well, sorry in the midst of planning a wedding 5 states away, you should have said something..... |
I'm favoring "Twilight Time" by The Platters or "Only You" or even "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes"...he wants "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor
|
Our "introduction song" was Accidently in Love by Counting Crows and our first dance was Your Song (the Moulin Rouge version).
|
We danced to Harry Connick Jr's "A Wink and a Smile" from the Sleepless in Seattle Soundtrack.
"We go together....like a wink and a smile." |
We used "Fields of Gold" by Sting. We had them cut it about 2/3 the way through, though, b/c we both felt a little weird all on display while everyone stood there and stared! :)

I've got a couple of things in mind so far for my wedding.
"Finish what we started" - Diamond Rio Lyin' on our backs we stared at the stars Tryin' to count them or guess how far I still remember the way that it felt The night we hung our dreams out on Orion's belt The moonlight danced out on the water's edge We started a walk that hasn't ended yet. Chorus: And step by step and mile by mile Taking each turn together Following the signs that point to forever And side by side True and tenderhearted We'll finish what we started. The road we have traveled has sometimes been steep And we've crossed troubled waters That were raging and deep But with memories to lean on and love as our guide There's no path too winding, no river too wide One foot in front of the other each day Keeping a promise that two young lovers made. Chorus: And step by step and mile by mile Taking each turn together Following the signs that point to forever And side by side True and tenderhearted We'll finish what we started. We'll finish what we started... "In my dreams" - Josh Turner Some men dream of crossign oceans Some men dream one day to fly Spend their whole lifes out there floatin' On the water and the sky Some men dream of buildign fortunes Some men dream of havin' fame Nothin' else is more important Than making money and a name But in my dreams I see A little sky blue house Beside a small stream A front porch, screen door The sound of bare feet runnin' and cartoons In my dreams, your dreams come true I come find you in your garden Pullin' weeds between the rows Trade a kiss for a glass of water Sit and watch what love can grow In my dreams I see A little sky blue house Beside a small stream A front porch, screen door The sound of bare feet runnin' and cartoons In my dreams, your dreams come true In my dreams your dreams Are the only things That really matter to me When you smile I smile What makes you happy makes me happy too In my dreams your dreams come true In my dreams your dreams come true |
