Musiq & Prince for Musiq's 3rd CD

Grammar purists beware.

Musiq, whose credits include Aijuswanaseing and Juslisen, is planning a collaboration with Prince, who once used a symbol for his name and has basically created his own number-inspired alphabet.

The two soul singers, who performed live together at a Prince show last year, will likely join forces for Musiq's third album.

"I think it's important to collaborate with other people, just to bring together two worlds and see what comes out of it," Musiq said recently. "It's all about inspiring people and keeping the ball rolling. What one does now contributes to the future. If you're not putting nothing out there that's substantial, there won't be a future in music."

Musiq's not sure who else he will record with for the follow-up to Juslisen, but the singer will next be seen teaming with Carlos Santana on "Nothing at All," his contribution to the guitarist's Shaman and the album's next single.

"He was going to put someone else on the song, but I was suggested by his friend's son and he liked what he heard," Musiq said. "It meant a lot to me to be able to work with Carlos. It was a very peaceful experience."

Musiq loved the opportunity to salute a legend so much, he signed on for two upcoming tribute albums, for Stevie Wonder and Jimi Hendrix.

For the former project, Musiq recorded "Visions." "It's the most beautiful song I've heard in my entire life," he said. "I translated it into a way that I would do it."

Conception: An Interpretation of Stevie Wonder's Songs, which also features Mary J. Blige, Brian McKnight, Joe, Glenn Lewis, Eric Clapton, Angie Stone, India.Arie and others, is due Tuesday.

MCA Records is releasing the Hendrix tribute, which will include tracks from Seal, Santana, Prince, Bootsy Collins, Vernon Reid, and Earth, Wind & Fire. Musiq recorded "Are You Experienced?" for the album, which does not yet have a release date.

"Everyone knows I love Stevie, but I'm very influenced and inspired by all people who are passionate about their music, and Jimi was definitely that," Musiq said.

Hendrix's half-sister Janie, who is organizing the album, suggested the song. "I did it and I loved it," Musiq said. "I didn't want to do it exactly like it, but I wanted to contribute to the space he was in as much as I could. I'm playing bass with my band. We cut it straight in one take."

With both tribute tracks in the can, Musiq is now focusing on his own album, which he plans to finish by June and release in September. The singer, who recently signed on for Coca-Cola and Levi's ad campaigns, said to expect a new and improved Musiq.

"I don't like doing the same thing," he said. "Just in my approach, I try to introduce alternative ways of listening to music. It's all in the name of soul, but just being more innovative with it."

The music duo Ruff Endz has been dropped from their record label. Ruff Endz has the hit ‘Someone to love you’.

Congratulations to Coko from SWV. Coko and her husband are the proud parents of a baby boy.

Alicia Keys is having problems with her skin. Alicia’s acne is out of control and it looks worse when she tries to cover it up with make-up. Alicia should find out who helped Usher and Vanessa Williams with their skin problems. Years ago they both had bad skin and now they look fabulous.

Earth Wind and Fire has a new Lp coming out in May. The Lp ‘Promise of a New Day’ was co-produced by Maurice White. Maurice is still battling Parkinson’s disease and it is not known if he will join them on tour this summer.

The romance is over for Actor Omar Epps and Actress Sanaa Lathan. The two lit up the big screen in the film Love and Basketball and their romance was the talk of the town. In the latest issue of Honey Magazine Omar talked about it and he said it just ended, he says they dated on and off for four years and that it was time to end. Omar revealed how he wasn’t faithful to Sanaa during the relationship and that he has moved on with his life. Omar will be starring in the boxing film ‘Against the Ropes’ with Meg Ryan this spring. I was surprised at how candid Omar was… but don’t cry for Sanaa she’s teaming up with Denzel Washington later this year for the movie ‘Out of Time’. Now that Omar Epps is no longer dating Actress Sanaa Lathan who’s he dating? Omar is dating Singer Keisha Spivey from the group Total. Keisha says they have been dating since November. Keisha says they were both available and they didn’t want unnecessary elements in their life.

Singer Heather Headley is topping the charts with the song ‘He is’ and she’s gearing up for her September wedding. Heather is marrying former NFL Star Brian Musso. They are getting married at his Parents farm in Indiana and they are to fly in sand from her native Trinidad. Heather’s career is being directed by the one and only Industry Mogul Clive Davis. Eddie Griffin and Anthony Anderson will be joining The Wayans Brothers in the new Scary Movie series. It will be called ‘Scary Movie 3: Lord of the Brooms’.

La Lakers Basketball star Rick Fox has some explaining to do. According to published reports Rick was at a wild Hollywood party and everybody was buzzing about the shenanigans supposedly involving him, some blondes and a chair in the shower. Rick says he was at the party but he was not doing anything wrong. So where was Rick’s wife Vanessa Williams? Vanessa was working in New York on a musical.

American Idol Judge Paula Abdul is looking for love and she is willing to pay to get it. Paula is paying a matchmaking service ten thousand dollars to help her find a man. Paula has been married twice and she is tired of dating losers and phonies. Paula turns 40 in June and she wants to settle down. Paula is tired of being lonely she wants to find Mr. Right. Starting this week you will notice some changes on the Popular Show American Idol. Starting this week you will notice a different celebrity judge to help Simon, Randy and Paula. The contestants will also be doing theme shows as part of the competition. For example one week it will be the music of Stevie Wonder, the next week the music of Paul McCartney.

Jennifer Lopez has made some dancers on her new music video mad. J-Lo hired some Ballerina’s to perform and they claim they were only paid 150 dollars and they had to work all night. They also complained about working conditions. The dancers say they had to stand outside in the cold and then, when they were let into a basement it was unheated and infested with cockroaches. This was probably not Jen’s fault; blame the directors and producers of the video. Whatever...

Director Antoine Fugua has a lot of explaining to do. Fugua directed Denzel Washington in ‘Training Day’ and he has a new movie out right now with Bruce Willis called ‘Tears of the Sun’. Fugua is also married to Actress Lela Rochon (Waiting to Exhale, Harlem Nights) and they have a daughter who is six months old. Last Week I mentioned how he was having problems with a stalker. Well this stalker claims she and Fugua were lovers for ten months and when the affair ended he started harassing her. The woman Tonya Evans is a 30 year old personal trainer from Los Angeles. Evans says Fugua harassed her and her teenage daughter. She says Fugua told her she would end up missing like Chandra Levy if she ever went public about their affair. She also claims Fugua has a sex addiction. Fugua allegedly told Evans he was involved with ten women at the same time. Last year Fugua had Evans arrested for trespassing on his property and harassing his wife. Tanya would call Lela and taunt her about her affair with her husband. Last Week Fugua, Lela and their family posed on the cover of Jet magazine. In the article Lela talked about her difficult pregnancy and how she had to stop working. Lela was on bedrest with this pregnancy. Lela miscarried in her fifth month during a previous pregnancy and she had to leave the lifetime show ‘The Division’. Lela says she loves being a mommy and she looks forward to returning to work. Lela married Fugua in 1999 they also take care of his son from a previous relationship. Will Fugua have to pay this woman off to keep her quiet? How will his marriage hold up against these charges? If he was cheating do you think he learned his lesson?

The CBS Talent show ‘Star Search’ has had to silence one of their judges. Country Superstar Naomi Judd made some statement that many people believed were racist. When Naomi was judging one performer a black guy, she referred to him as a street performer, she called another guy a funky monkey and she said she loves it when white people tap dance.

Mary J Blige is hard at work on a new LP. Love and Life is due out this summer.

Back in the 60’s the legendary Eartha Kitt donned the black leather to play Catwoman against Batman and Robin and now Oscar Winner Halle Berry is going to do the same in the new movie version.

Toni Braxton has left Arista Records. Toni’s last album did not do well at all. Toni started her career at Arista and at one time she could do no wrong but her last Lp ‘More than a Woman’ was awful. Toni is now with Blackground Records. Toni signed a three album deal worth Ten Million dollars. A new album should be out by the fall. She is getting ready to give birth to her second child. Haaaaaaaaaaated it. The problem was not the label; it was the production and her choice of songs. Toni should stick with what worked for her first 2 CDs -- BALLADS and a couple of uptempo songs. I listened to the newest one ONCE and it will be going to a CD EXCHANGE this week along with Blackstreet.

See, back then I just KNEW the darker one (with the short) hair was a lesbian because she had "that look". She is very masculine. Then, I "found out" that it was the other one with the short hair that was supposedly tutti fruitti. I was really, really  becuase I thought it was the darker one.

Beyonce & Sean Paul

Sean Paul isn't letting the heat from his Dutty Rock album cool down. The dancehall star has just finished tracking the song "Baby Boy" with Beyoncé Knowles for the Destiny's Child singer's first solo album, Dangerously in Love, due on May 20.

"I've been a fan of her work for a long time," Sean Paul said while taking a break from recording the song in a Miami studio on Thursday night. "She expressed to me that she's been listening to a lot of my music. She wrote a great song."

Knowles has just a few more weeks of recording left on the album, according to a Columbia Records spokesperson.

Based on Sean Paul's description, the mid-tempo track is a sequel of sorts to " '03 Bonnie & Clyde," Beyoncé's recent hit duet with Jay-Z. "She's telling me about her fantasies and picturing me and her going here and there, all over the world," Paul said. "I'm answering back, like, 'I'm wit it.' " The track was produced by Scott Storch (Christina Aguilera, Dr. Dre), who co-wrote it with Beyoncé.

Weary from a full day of studio time, Sean Paul attempted to sing a few lines of the song a cappella. "Telling me all about the thing that you would fantasize/ I know you dig the way me step on all this track/ Baby girl I listen to ya ..."

"That's it, man," he said with a laugh after a few more attempts at the hook. "I can't remember no more right now."

Among the 20 songs recorded for the album so far are tracks with Missy Elliott and Luther Vandross, according to Beyoncé's manager and father, Mathew Knowles (see "Beyonce Working It With Missy Elliott On Solo Album"). Within the next two weeks, Beyoncé is scheduled to hit the studio to record with Jay-Z, P. Diddy and the Neptunes, he said. No more than 14 tracks will end up on the finished album, so it is currently unclear which of the collaborations will make the final cut.

"[Fans] will see a vocal edge of Beyoncé [on the album] that they have not seen in Destiny's Child," Matthew Knowles said. "This is a pure R&B record."

In addition, Knowles said a bonus DVD will be packaged with the initial pressing of the album. It will feature some live performance footage as well as in-the-studio clips shot during the making of the LP.

While Beyoncé is slated to record a duet with Aretha Franklin for the soul legend's upcoming studio album, Sean Paul is keeping up his torrid pace as well. The dancehall don recently tracked a song with 112 for their upcoming album, and he joined hip-hop legends De La Soul on "Shoomp," slated to appear on their next record.

And I didn't think that was no four years ago, neither. Is time really flying like that? I'ma hafta check the date on that VIBE, cuz I know I still have it. :)

I LOVE MUSIQ!!! I LOVE MUSIQ!!!! That's all. :)

Alicia should try Proactiv. :p

Sean Paul has been a fan of Beyonce's work for a long time? Exactly how long is a long time? Is a long time relative? Cuz I can't really say she's been famous for a long time. I guess it's relative. I try to hate on her, lol, but I do like the song she has on Missy's CD. I tried not to like it, too.

I remember that article as well. I was disenchanted with him after that, but just hoped for the best. Kind of sad that Sanaa did not "listen" to his words. That would have been back in 99 because The Wood came out in 99.

Dat's all right Sanaa, just keep on rising to the top.

Dixie Chicks criticized for exercising free speech!

Mar 20, 6:15 AM EST

Lawmakers: Chicks Should Do Free Concert

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina House members say the Dixie Chicks should apologize for lead singer Natalie Maines' criticism of President Bush by performing a free concert for troops.

Republican state Rep. Catherine Ceips introduced a resolution Wednesday calling for the country music trio to perform for South Carolina troops and their families.

Maines, speaking about President Bush's push for military action against Iraq, told a London audience last week, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."

Radio stations nationwide are boycotting the Dixie Chicks even though Maines, a native of Lubbock, Texas, has publicly apologized.

Cindi Berger, the Dixie Chicks' publicist, had no comment on the resolution, which passed the House on a 50-35 vote and left some lawmakers angry and others confused.

"I think it's an olive branch to the Dixie Chicks," Ceips said.

"But only after they apologize first for exercising their free speech, is that correct?" asked House Minority Leader James Smith, a Democrat.

The Dixie Chicks have been in Europe promoting their recent release "Home," which won a Grammy last month for best country album.

911 Tape: Williams' Brother Claims Suicide

By KATHY HENNESSY
Associated Press Writer

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- The brother of former NBA star Jayson Williams told a police dispatcher that a limousine driver shot himself, according to a newspaper's account of the 911 tape released Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, a state appeals court ordered the release of the 911 tape, made after the Feb. 14, 2002 shooting at Williams' home.

Williams, 35, is charged with first-degree manslaughter and other offenses in the death of driver Costas Christofi. Williams, who is accused of shooting Christofi and then trying to make it look like a suicide, could face nearly 55 years in prison if convicted on all counts.

Attorneys for the Courier News of Bridgewater sought the tape, arguing that it should be released under the state's open records law. But the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office contended that releasing the tapes would make it difficult to pick a jury.

On the tape, Williams' brother, Victor, implored the dispatcher to send an ambulance.

"This man has just got shot, he picked up a gun that was loaded and it shot him," he said, according to the Courier News. Authorities have said Victor Williams was not present at the time of the shooting.

According to the newspaper, background voices were audible on the unedited tape. At one point, someone demanded that Victor Williams tell the dispatcher to send help immediately.

Judy Smith, a spokeswoman for Jayson Williams, said 16-minute call shows the "pandemonium and chaos surrounding the event."

"The call, which was made immediately after the accidental shooting, clearly demonstrates the concern that Jayson Williams and others had for Mr. Christofi and the desperate attempt they made to get him immediate medical assistance," Smith said.

The appeals court judges said New Jersey's Supreme Court has long held that extreme pretrial publicity does not prevent an impartial jury. The unanimous decision also said the state's recently adopted open public records law applied to criminal proceedings.

"The fact that media coverage may make it more difficult to select and impanel a fair and impartial jury is not a basis to deny access to government records," the court ruled.

James Flachsenhaar, executive editor of the Courier News, said the newspaper was pleased the court established a precedent regarding the state's new open records law.

"Their ruling embodies the law as we understood it in the first place," Flachsenhaar said.

First Assistant Hunterdon County Prosecutor Steven C. Lember said state prosecutors decided against fighting the ruling, but he refused to immediately release the tape to other media.

At the trial, prosecutors plan to play an "enhanced" version of the tape, on which background voices can clearly be heard.

The 6-foot-10 Williams was among the NBA's best rebounders when leg injuries led to his retirement from the New Jersey Nets in 2000. After the shooting, he was suspended from his job as an NBA analyst for NBC.

No trial date has been set. An arraignment was scheduled for Thursday.

Yep, we do. But at the same time, we live in a country where folks can boycott, speak out, etc. at stupid stuff that people say. The Dixie Chicks know who their core audience is. I say if you man/woman enough to say it, be man/woman enough to deal with the consequences. I give their (former??) fans props for putting principle over popularity and entertainment. Did anyone else just see the new Pepsi commercial featuring Beyonce? It was kind of........... I don't know. Let me run and eat dinner and I'll have a better answer on a full stomach.

In the mean time, mingle and talk amongst yourselves about your thought of the spot. I'll be back.

It was ok...but the one with Shakira was funny :D

I was...I don't know how to discribe it. I tell ya what, though. It didn't make me wanna run out and grab a Pepsi. I just wish homegirl would get a new hair stylist. Her hair ALWAYS looks kinda jacked to me. I can't believe she is a spokesperson/model for a hair care company!

She's using that L'oreal stuff. She knows she should be promoting Dudley's or some product with the lady on the back.

ROWLAND READY TO DISROBE? Kelly and DCers say bring on the steamy scenes.

Kelly Rowland
(Mar. 20, 2003) *Kelly Rowland may be taking a cue from fellow pop princess Christina Aguilera. While Aguilera recently released her sophomore album titled "Stripped," Rowland says she's ready to strip, too, for the big screen.
World Entertainment News Network says that Rowland, nor her Destiny's Child are afraid of doing steamy movie scenes and would even disrobe for the cameras, if it was the right role.

The "right" role is considered by Rowland to be something along the lines of Halle Berry's steamy scene in her Oscar-winning performance in "Monster's Ball."

"What I love about Halle is she was doing her thing, it wasn't just, 'I'm gonna be in a sex scene.' The movie had depth and reason. I would like to do a sex scene like that," Rowland.

CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER AND FAMILY JOIN FORCES WITH MOTHER OF MANY: They sent MOM's Middle East Peace Boxes to Marines and sailors in Kuwait

(Mar. 21, 2003) As the countdown to Operation Iraqi Freedom struck the 43rd hour, Mother Of Many shipped "M.O.M.'s Middle East Peace Boxes" to Camp Pendleton Marines and Navy Sailors in Kuwait.
King of Comedy, Cedric "The Entertainer" and his wife Lorna donated socks, tooth paste, deodorant, baby wipes, dental supplies, shaving supplies, toiletries and other much needed items from home. M.O.M.'s Middle East Peace Boxes also included DVD's of Cedric The Entertainer Presents the Starting Lineup Platinum Comedy Series and a stuffed Marine Bulldog with a personal Cedric "The Entertainer" voice recorded message wishing the troops a safe and speedy return home.

Mother Of Many (M.O.M.) has joined forces with Operation Interdependence (O.I.), a history-making civilian to military delivery system, to deliver some back home love to deployed Camp Pendleton Marines and Navy Sailors. Each member of a unit receives various items from civilians who purchase, pack and ship the care packages. The New Hope Church of God In Christ Sunday school children help M.O.M. pack the Middle East Peace Boxes.

"The purpose of M.O.M.'s Middle East Peace Box is to let deployed Marines and Navy Sailors know that we're praying for their safe return home and for a peaceful end to President Bush's war against Iraq. Now that the war has begun we must provide moral and spiritual support for our servicemen and servicewomen," states Mother Of Many founder and president Daphne Bradford.

Mother Of Many, Inc. (M.O.M.) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to preserving the rich culture of American history, music, literature, and film. M.O.M.'s mission is to "Plant the Seeds of Wisdom" from the past and present for sound learning, understanding and judgment for future generations.
