I have, but mostly handbags and jewelry--accessories that I can get a lot of use out of. I did order a pair of leather pants from Bluefly which totally rock, but I got them on sale for just $80.
I have shoes that range from Prada to Coach to Nine West to Payless knockoffs. My closet's mostly a lot of Express, Limited, Tommy, Ralph Lauren, AE, etc. Standard mall brands. |
I have everything from Target T-shirts to a mink in my closet and I have to admit, I have no problem paying top dollar for things-----PROVIDED they are classic, fit well and are something I will use often. Unless you are Paris Hilton, I cannot see spending thousands on some item that will be totally passe next season. For example, I am a LV whore myself and when the Murakami bags came out I was salivating. But I just knew deep in my heart that the real thing wouldn't last long and pretty soon there would be a million people running around with fake ones....those bags are actually very hard to find and I feel like if I broke down and bought one everyone would think it was a fake anyway! My husband is on this quest to find me the one I want even if it costs him $2000 but I think he is crazy. (We don't trust the ones on Ebay)
My point is, if you can afford it and you enjoy it I think it's totally fine to buy clothes that make you feel good no matter how much they cost. It's the people who can't afford it who I just wonder what they are thinking.....like the Outkast song that talks about shaking your ass to buy that phat bag but you don't have any food in your refigerator. |
i got my girl something from tiffany's that cost a grip.

I agree, Loehmanns can have some good deals! I got a pair of 400 dollar Calvin Klein Collection pants for 30 dollars! whoo hoo-best deal ever. And they are cute!

I've become pickier over the years, and now quality and fit in my clothes is very important to me.
The most expensive things I used to buy were not expensive at all... until I started shopping with my own money. I felt guilty asking my parents to buy me an expensive skirt or pants, but now that I have no one else to be accountable to, I'm saving for a new wardrobe! I think I'm even going to get a second job to go all out. Whoo-hoo! |
One thing I've found for me is that the more expensive clothes fit me better. They just seem to have a touch more material.
Also, way back in this thread, someone mentioned the colors. Perfect example-I was going to buy my son a Ralph Lauren shirt that was pastel (sherbert) orange. I pulled one out and it was $165.00:eek: Now I'm not about to spend that on a shirt he'd wear and probably get beer all over, so the lady said-"This is our PURPLE (or some color) tag line." I went to another store and bought him the regular tag line for $60 something. There was a difference. The more expensive color was a softer hue. It WAS a better looking color. However, after he get's done washing it 10-20 times-they will look the same!:p I saw the most beautiful Channel outfit. WOW was it expensive. The skirt was black on white polka dots. I see LOTS of white on black, but am searching for the reverse. If you window shop at the most expensive stores and develop your eye as to what is "high end" sometimes you can find something that will mimic the effect. I do buy a couple of high end items a year, but they must be classic and tailored so they will last a LOOOOOOOOOONG time. I will NOT skimp on jewelry. |

Don't you just miss our home town?! ;) |
If i had the money, i probably wouldn't...
being in college has taught me how to copy really expensive looks :) I love Filene's Basement, I bought this BCBG dress there for like $45. I also go to H&M and Zara (i got soo hooked when i lived in Europe) I will admit, i have a few expensive accessories, but not too many. I rather spend my hard earned cash on other things, like alcohol and traveling. |
I'm a name brand chick. I'll look online for things and want to get stuff, but DEFINITELY can't afford them. lol
|
OK. So I've decided to buy a Louis V. On eBay or Overstock auction. I've checked out the counterfeit info and well see what happens! Wish me luck!

For the most part, rich people don't stay rich by spending obscene amounts of money of things like clothes. Save millions and spend pennies.
Usually it's the people that try to come off as rich that spend large amounts of money on clothes. If that makes you feel better about yourself-more power to you. |
Oh, I am the queen of bargain shopping. My friends tease me that I don't see anything in a store unless it's under a SALE sign. :D I get a lot of my clothes at Kohl's...the prices are reasonable to begin with and they're ALWAYS having good sales. If something I want isn't on sale this week, it probably will be next. ;) Target is a good place for basics (I get a lot of t-shirts there) and Meijer has some department-store brands. I am also a big fan of the off-price stores: Nordstrom Rack (Shoe heaven! My friend Laura and I have been known to do serious damage there!), Marshalls/TJ Maxx, Filene's Basement, Loehmann's, Syms, Century 21 when I'm in NYC. Outlet shopping rocks too, although some stores have better deals than others.

This sounds like me! hehe:P The majority of my clothing actually comes from Old Navy (or sales racks at like AE or wherever) simply because My weight bounces around alot (I have jeans in like...every size, lol. It's ridiculous! But I'm actually getting back on my diet- so here I go!!!!) I see people who've lost weight and their pants are sagging and whatnot- but I would NEVER allow myself to wear clothes like that, so in my mind, it's much cheaper/easier to just replace the cheapish clothing from there than blow all of my money on expensive jeans-only to not be able to wear them, lol. |
I have a few classic pieces that could be considered high end, but they are pieces that I'll have for a long time (at least as long as I can squeeze into them!). I usually like things that are by designers that aren't very mainstream. For beachwear I'm addicted to OndadeMar!
|
I look for quality, not just designer names. However, most high-quality stuff is made by designers. For my every day wear, I stick to basics from mall stores like J.Crew/Banana, but for accessories and dressing up, I buy most of my pieces from boutiques and "nicer" department stores (like Saks). So I'm a mix-n-matcher as well.
ETA: I forget to mention that a lot of my nicer pieces have been handed down to me from my mother, so that costs $0! She tends to go through phases of types of clothes that she likes, so once a year, she'll go through a major wardrobe overall, and I reap the benefits of that. |
