He liked the fountain pen. Thanks for the suggestion, Munchkin. I gave him other gifts, too. He gave me a diamond heart pendant necklace. He said that something else will arrive on Monday. :) In an hour we will leave for midnight mass.

is liquor wrong? We've only been dating about a month. He and his roommate are crazy about GM.

The "not-BF" (that was for you, etahannah! ;) ) jumped up and down when he opened his gift -- Jordan's Carolina Blue sweater pants outfit complete with the visor and shoes. I even threw in a burned CD to listen to while he's sleeping on the bus to the game.
"A perfect gameday outfit," he said. I'm glad he liked it, the reaction was priceless. |

Is it the Backstreet Boys or N'Sync with the highly suspicious 40 year old member?

I'm bumping this b/c I have a question about gifts for boyfriends. My friend is planning on giving her boyfriend a scrapbook of them together for their 1 year anniversary. She got mad at me when I told her that while the gift is very thoughtful , it's not the kind of thing men really want. I told her she'd be better off giving him something he can really use and appreciate like something for his guitar, or something that's surfing related since that's what he likes. I also told her that a scrapbook is a great gift for women but not really the ideal gift for men. She's now mad at me b/c she thinks I insulted her gift. In hindsight, I probably was a little tactless but was I right to tell her this or should I have kept my mouth shut? I don't know b/c I've always gotten my fiance gifts I know he would use & want like sports gifts, movies, & stuff like that.
|
Okay, I'm a woman and I'd be pissed if somebody gave me a scrapbook as a gift.
Well, "pissed" might be an exaggeration, but I think people either really like scrapbooks or they don't, and I'm having a hard time imagining a guy who would like one. It sounds more like a gift your friend is really making for herself, you know? She can still make the scrapbook, but I agree with you that it's a bad gift idea. Gifts are supposed to be about the recipient, not the giver. |

I know of a few friends who've made scrapbooks for their boyfriends, I don't think I'd ever give one to my guy though. I'm really into scrapbooking and arts and crafts and all that stuff and I made a scrapbook for my best friend for her birthday. In between the book, the papers, the stickers, etc. it ended up being really expensive.

buy him concert tickets to favorite band, that will always be a winner, I'd be like hell yeah what a cool girlfriend she likes |\| | |/| and can score tix, I will let this one in a little closer now, yeah.

I've got to buy a gift for the BF's b-day in a few weeks. We had just started dating when my birthday came up so we went out to a nice place for dinner & drinks. But now it's 4 months later & his birthday. And like Rudey, he's a man who has everything. SOOOO I'm thinking a night out for something in NYC. Perhaps something slightly cheesy & touristy like the evening night loop on the double decker buses or the night boat cruise.

Is he in to the touristy type stuff? |

However, I think my current bf would love one. He always sees me scrapbooking for myself so I'm sure he'd like one for himself. |

Here's an update. They broke up. Shortly after the gift fiasco (he gave her pajama's) all she could do was go on and on about how he didn't like the scrapbook and all she got were crappy pajamas. Then they broke up.

what about an ex-bf, but now friend?
So long story short, a guy is now my ex boyfriend... we're kinda friends, like we're civil to each other b/c we have a lot of mutual friends and we both hang out w/ our mutual friends a lot (sometimes he's there, sometimes he's not)
Every year the mutual friends have a christmas party, and everyone exchanges gifts... (everyone will usually buy something for everyone else) so what should I get the ex boyfriend? Should I get him something? |
It's a ways off till Christmas but here's my opinion:
If you're still friends AND if you're getting something for everyone else it would seem petty not to get him something too. I wouldn't get him anything big, probably about equal to what you would get for the person you're least friendly with at the party. (If that made any sense.) |
