Actually Shenandoah U is in Virginia. My recall as I have several friends and family who attended late 90s/2000s no previous NPC or NPHC group was on campus. Although their campus housing is a bit unique as several of the residence halls are housed in old hotels that closed (i.e. think Quality Inn/Red Roof Inn etc.)

Thanks for the catch. My mind always associates the name Shenandoah with West Virginia for some reason.

Well, Winchester is super close to the WV state line. So you weren't too far off geographically.

Probably because of John Denver.

"Almost heaven, West Virginia.
Blue Ridge Mountains,
Shenandoah River."

LaneSig, how are you able to find which campuses are open to expansion? Do they usually announce on their websites or should I just follow every single university's FSL instagram pages?

Also, Sigma Iota Sigma is chartering a new chapter in Rockland County

I get my information various ways. I do check out the official websites, along with Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Some people will send me information that they would liked shared.

It isn't until Jan. of 2026, but I'm too excited to wait! Gamma Phi Beta will be returning to Northwestern! https://dailynorthwestern.com/2024/1...DwCkeU2Cvcnulg

I'm so happy they're returning after all the crap Northwestern went through with their greek system. I hope the other chapters can return at some point too!

Sciencewoman 10-26-2024 11:02 PM

I'm very happy for the Epsilon chapter alumnae. I do think that Daily Northwestern headline is misleading, as the chapter wasn't "suspended" in the usual definition of that word.

I'm so glad for GPhiB and Northwestern University that this chapter will be returning to campus.

Question-At one point around 2020 wasn't Northwestern Panhellenic trying to completely disband and wanted to prevent any possible future reestablishment of closed chapters?

Oh lord thank goodness it didn't happen. Tri Delta nearly was shut down too, but the housing corp worked hard to keep it open. The chapter is still there and is thriving.

It was more that the campus was caught up in the Abolish Greek Life movement and several chapters closed as a result of members (largely new members, in most cases, I believe) deciding that Greek Life perpetuated discrimination, and some voted to return their charters. I can't speak to what each organization did, but there were organization-led efforts to work with chapters and the university. I don't believe that Northwestern itself was involved in trying to dismantle the Greek system.

During the extensive discussion on here, I noticed schools like NYU and Berkley didn't have this, despite having more liberal populations, as did a lot of the Ivy's. Though Wash U in Missouri had a lot of chapters close due to this.

Alpha Chi Omega is closing their chapter at Washington College effective December 2024.

Oh man I just brought this up in the NY locals thread. I hope they can have a Binghamton style rebuild of their Greek system, as they’ve had a huge problem with underground organizations for a while now.
