-nautical themed
-40s and shorties

lots more, but i can't remember.

SigmaGirlTU 01-19-2008 01:22 AM

Alzz 01-22-2008 06:03 PM

I was told to do 40s and shorties but I didn't know what it was? and then I felt stupid asking lol

SNBullet 02-11-2008 01:07 PM

We do this thing called Sigma NuClear. You replace all the light bulbs with red ones and wear masks and such. The top floor is shots, middle is mixed drinks and basement is beer. You have a siren that signals the move to the next floor. once you hit the basement its a pitcher chug and you all get blitzd

SunnyBlueEyes 02-20-2008 11:44 PM

I have went to something called a Stoplight party (not sure if it is posted on here or not)

But you wear red if taken, green if single and yellow if dating someone but options are open type of thing.

Most girls and guys wear black or white and highlight and accessorize their outfits with the colors.

We also do Graffitti/black light parties, Trash-bash, and a high school theme (wear shirt or jersey from your high school or favorite team), a new one I heard last weekend is an after-sex party that people came looking like they just had sex (it got to be pretty funny with things people came up with like handcuffs still attached, condoms taped on them, empty cigarette packs. And one guy even came as a condom dispenser)

The more creative you get with the ideas, the more fun it is.

We often do more laid back socials like BBQs, bonfires and date-parties to hockey or football games. But these are official sorority socials that we are not allowed to have alcohol or have to have a cash bar for 21+

IronManismyVOlS 03-03-2008 02:07 AM

We had something called happy new hour, you dressed up like it was new years, and every hour you celebrated like it was the new year, with shots and all, it was pretty fun.

SigChiRU 03-30-2008 11:27 PM

We had a beach theme mixer that was really fun and before i was in they did it big and filled up the basement of our house with sand and what not all the Alum say it was nuts

SWTXBelle 03-30-2008 11:57 PM

How did you get the sand OUT of the basement??

the SAEs used to do that at my school, and they got the sand out with wet/dry shop vacs. As I remember, the cost of clean-up was actually factored into the budget. (the basement was a walk-out one, so they would open the doors and just shovel it out, then vaccum what was left).

Great Greek Mixer Idea

Check out our website at www.play52cardpickup.com for great mixer party packs that get party goers laughing, mixing, mingling and provides a great way to exchange cell numbers and emails. Let me know if you have any questions about this awesome party used by match.com and nightclubs and bars across the country.

We have a Beta Beach party every early spring, we get bamboo sticks and line our decks, bring in 10 tons of sand to spread throughout the party room - usually about 6 inches deep everywhere, we booked a jimmy buffet cover band, they're called the Keywest Band, absolutely incredible...put out tiki torches, light up palm trees, it was the biggest party of the semester on the entire circle

Clean up wasn't that bad, we cleaned up with a couple shopvacs and then took the sand for horseshoe pits and restored a sand volleyball court - had a great party and racked up philanthropy hours :)

- Anything but clothes party. Dressing up in anything from wrapping paper, shopping bags, ribbon, tin foil, you name it.
- Golf pros and tennis hos
- Rubik's cube party. Everyone wears different pieces of clothing in the six different colors from a Rubik cube. By the end of the night, the goal is to be dressed in only one color.

One date party our social chair planned was called "My Tie". Sisters pulled eachother's names out of a hat. It was your job to find the sister you pulled out of the hat a date. You had to ask the date for a tie and could not tell them who they were going with.
The day of the social the men meet in one room and the girls in another. The guys and girls found out who their date by the tie!

CowboyKappa 06-06-2008 02:36 AM

Here are a few we have done

Destination/suitcase party - everyone comes to the party with their suitcase packed. At some point in the party (11:00 or so) a couple's name is drawn out of a hat and they leave immediately for the destination with the suitcase they have packed!

Half formal - either the top half of you or the bottom half is formal - the other half is casual. You get girls with silky tops and sweatpants for bottoms or guys with shirts and ties and atheltic shorts, etc.

PhiOTillIDie 07-04-2008 02:56 AM

Couple parties we do every year that are really popular are:
Plastard in Plaid- you would be surprised at the different kinds of plaid people come up with.
Harley Party
Pretty in Pink
Our colors are red and white so we did a red hot party dress all in red
For Halloween we did what do you want to be when you grow up
red white and bling

socialite 07-06-2008 02:34 PM

Punk rock parties are really fun i think because people go ALL OUT when it comes to dressing up for these... love it...

Taking a cue from Bridget Jones' Diary (I assume) I went to a Vics and Vicars party once that was...interesting

And since I'm from good ole missourah a favorite is always the cowboy themed party and the redneck party...

socialite 07-06-2008 02:40 PM

Oh god I forgot about my favorite ever...

"Revenge of the Nerds"- Pocket protectors, flannel, pants hawked up to here, glasses with tape around them, etc etc, and one of the girls came with toilet paper duct taped to her shoe it was AWESOMELY fun.

Frat Hard Or Go Home!

Hi! I'm having a late birthday party and I really want everyone, or at least the guys to frat hard. I love it when they where polos, button downs, and sperrys and stuff. But it's not really directly related to my sorority or a fraternity, I'm just using it for my birthday party theme. However, some of my friends, guys and girls don't really like frats. So is there a way to theme it where the guys and some girls if they wanted to, could frat hard, but it wouldn't be obvious. Like I think frat hard or go home might be like offending to some (which is crazy), but I don't want a group to not come because of it.

So, any ideas for fratty themes/names for the party, that isn't like frat hard or go home?
Thanks :)

An annual social we do with one of the fraternities is Boxer Bash. One year, we buy boxers, the guys buy pizza and drinks. The next year, we switch the responsibilities. If it's our turn to buy boxers, our social chair gets a list from the frat's social chair with the size of boxers each guy wants. The two chairs pair us up, and we get only the size of boxers. We buy matching boxers for us and the guy, and give the guy's to our social chair, who gives the boxers to their social chair (with the guys' names on the corresponding boxers). The night of the social, everyone keeps their boxers covered until the revealing. You do a little strip show to find out who you boxer buddy is, and you're with that person through the rest of the social. We get divided up into relay teams, and the losing team(s) pay for the alcohol. Sounds complicated, but always a lot of fun. We've even done to the bars in our boxers afterwards too.

Another we did with a fraternity and sorority at another campus was a Halloween mixer. Our Social chairs grouped us so there was one member from each house in a group, and since we were from different schools, all we got was a name and phone number. As a group, you had to have a theme to your Halloween costumes: nerds, TJ, superheroes, exterminator&insects (that was my group, and we won). Winning group got a handle that they didnt have to share, everyone else had only the keg. Then as a group, we all went out into Isla Vista in our costumes.

Also:
-Speed "Getting to Know You"
-Mafia
-Black&White Ladies Night
-Black&Red Ladies Night
-Scarlet Night
-White Affair
-Masquerade Ball (gotta wear a mask... could even make them as you're coming in)
-Ghetto Drive In (get a projector, set it up on the side of the house, pull your trucks up with the beds facing the wall. bring out a few couches too)
-Movie Night (rent a movie where they say one word repeatedly, last one to raise their hands has to take a shot. sober version: last one to raise their hands gets a truth or dare. Surf's Up [Big Z] and 300 [Sparta] work well. works best with smaller groups)

Obviously the original poster is no longer looking for suggestions, but here are my favorites from years past (some of them were from other sororities and I was just jealous of their themes):
* It Used To Be Cool
* I Got if for $10 (Your whole outfit had to total $10)
* Party Animals (everybody was an animal...some of the guys were hilarious and picked the most obscure animals)
* New Years (nice dresses and everybody went crazy at midnight)
* P is for Party (everybody dresses up as something with the letter P)
* You Are What You Drink (interpret drinks into costumes)
* Sin City (everybody interpreted Vegas hotels)
* I Love the 90s
* Get In The Game (boardgames, sports, whatever)

we did a "rescue me" party, where you can be a nurse, cop, firefighter, or even a super hero... pretty sweet

aeal121 10-09-2008 09:28 PM

Ok, so this one is kinda weird, but it turned out hysterical. Last year, we had a mixer with a fraternity and they suggested we do a Noah's Ark party. The fraternity prez dresses up as Noah and the sorority prez dresses up as mrs. Noah and then all the rest of the members dress up as animals. If you want, you can coordinate to be in pairs with someone from the opposite house, this turned out really funny, the pictures are great!
Other ideas:
-Represent your state
-Famous Lovers
-Flash 'n Trash (flashy/trashy)
-Tacky Wedding

Headbanger's Ball

we recently had a Headbanger's Ball with ΘΞ. it was a lot of fun, we played rock band. we all seperated off into "bands" and we tried to see what band could get the highest score. we wore band t-shirts and "rocker" gear. we all listened to rock music and it was a lot of fun!

More Ideas...

We've had a Mathletes vs Athletes party :-) We all dressed up as jocks or nerds, and then we had different competitions (like nerds vs jocks in flip cup, shot gun races, etc.)... At the end of the night the "team" (nerds or jocks) that won, got something... Our "prize" was to not clean up :-) It definately got everyone comptetive considering we had upwards of 150 people between our sorority and their fraternity...

Robots was one we just had last Friday (8 days ago)... You dress like a robot! Some guys donned cardboard boxes with horizontal glow sticks on their chest... I personally went as a FemBot from Austin Powers... One guy dressed up as Arnold Schwartenager (Terminator)... A girl went as Rosie from the Jestons cartoon... A ton of people went out and bought a roll of aluminum foil...

Lets see, we've also had the regular socials: toga, gangsta, biker/trashy wedding, 70s, Guys&Dolls, GolfPros and Tennis Hoes, Heaven and Hell, Luau, Stop Light, Beer Pong in your PJs (Beer pong championship w/ brackets), WTF are you Wearing? (mismatch), Cocktail, Black and White TV (some one wore a black and white smoking robe), Fast Times at _____ High (We used McComas since its the name of our greek row), In the Army, Cowboys and Indians, Ugly Sweater, Famous Couples...

There's more, I just can't think of them right now... I'm a junior (finally) and we have consistantly had 1 every other friday since I signed my bid back in Fall of 2006... We have had a TON of them, and we haven't repeated any themes... except 80s I think...

ariadrew 11-05-2008 09:14 PM

im not in a greek system but thought i would add since i own a club type establishment and throw themed parties

This one only really work at sor/frats

RUBICS CUBE everyone wears different color clothes like a red shirt blue pants yellow shoes etc then tries to swap clothes with others by doing things. its a tough thing to leave in a solid color clothes and a lot of fun
let me know if anybody does it

LXAGuy08 11-06-2008 12:41 AM

The best social theme we have had so far this year has been the Village People. its was alot of fun and you definitely can get creative with it.

Magmar 11-10-2008 08:53 PM

These are some really good ideas, as we may have a theme coming up.
So far, we just did anything but clothes...

tenev 11-25-2008 02:22 AM

Yea guys, really good ideas.

Here is what we did at my house (Sigma Pi at MSU)

80`s party - Huge Success
Martini Monday - Became a tradition, once per semester
WTF Party - wear something that people would say WTF
Monster Party - sponsored by monster

We had many more but those were the parties that really turned our to be very successful
