OKAY!! Glad I’m the next one to post. I’ll continue my second Pfizer shot saga ⬆️ from yesterday...last night was ROUGH: I slept 10 hours, alternating freezing and sweating all night; one hour I couldn’t get warm enough, the next hour I was throwing off covers. I had a sore throat and kept rolling over on my sore arm which was at least a 6/10 when I went to bed. This morning my eyes were almost matted shut...like I’ve had from the effects of the flu.
This morning—I’m OVER THE HUMP! I woke up much improved and starved! I drank a quick cup of coffee and downed a yogurt and toast. My arm is still sore (4/10) but overall I’m better. No headache fortunately. So that’s my saga. PLEASE you all—keep these going. Your previous stories helped me immensely in knowing what to expect. |
:eek: Well, I'll prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
I desperately want to be scheduled for a Friday so I won't get side effects in front of my class. |
I was scheduled for my second Pfizer shot on 2/22. Received a call yesterday letting me know it will have to be delayed. Because of the midwest weather, no deliveries have been received. They are hoping to reschedule us by the end of the week.

I was able to score an appointment last night when they dropped just before midnight- for 3/13. I'm glad I got Saturday as it will give me a day after without having to work in case I'm feeling crummy.
|
I got the second one--I ran a mild fever and had a kind of sore arm for a day but it wasn't as bad as the first time.
Now teachers can get the vaccine and I'm glad for my co-workers! Our students have been in person, mostly unmasked, all year. Still, our Covid rate has been quite a bit lower than that of other schools in the region, even masked ones. |
We had a major debacle last week...the university sent out an email inviting all faculty, students, and staff for leftover vaccines due to cancelled appointments. I called and scheduled my son and I for the next day. It turns out only those in clinical placements (student teachers, nurses, clinical faculty) were supposed to be invited. It appears some top administrators had a heads up an scheduled/went that afternoon, along with others who had called and got in that afternoon. By the next morning, they had figured out the error and our appointments were cancelled. It made the news.

I am eligible in California to get my vaccine and I’ve been trying for an appointment for days. Just got confirmation that I get my first shot tomorrow. So I’m either getting Moderna, Pfizer or Astra Zeneca. (Even though these are two different items, I’m glad I’m not getting the Johnson and Johnson vaccine because they can’t even get baby powder right! Apologies if anybody works for J&J.) I live less than a mile from the vaccination center and it’s a drive-through.
So excited! I had COVID-19 last year early on. And while I did not have to go to the hospital it took a long time to recover. I am still dealing with long-hauler symptoms and the vaccine is supposed to get rid of those. Cannot wait! |
I'm still ineligible to get the vaccine. Louisiana has received quite a number of doses, and there are mass distribution sites throughout the state (I could walk to one of them), but nope. Even though I'm a cancer survivor and have other comorbidities - I'm still ineligible. (Eligibility: 55+ with comorbidities, 65+ regardless of comorbidities, medical personnel, police, teachers, and pregnant women.)
The evil part of me wants to find someone who's pregnant, get her to pee on a stick, and use that as "proof" that I'm "pregnant" and should get my jabs. The ethical and moral part of me is stronger, so I will wait my turn. But I wish I could just get my jabs already... :( |
My husband was the first to get his - Moderna - no effect whatsoever.
Next, I drove to Pearland and got my first - Moderna - sore arm for a few days, lethargy. My younger son got his Saturday - drove to Bay City - Pfizer - no effect, really. Elder son is not yet scheduled. I am waiting to be scheduled for my second. My son is already scheduled, so it will be another drive down to Bay City (about an hour and a half). |
Two of my sons are interning in schools. I wish that made them eligible for the vaccine now. They managed to get through fall without getting Covid.
|
My school district is holding a clinic for interested staff members to get their first shot this Wednesday. My husband works for a very large metro Atlanta school district. They are very slowly assigning appointments for staff beginning today. He's not waiting. He was able to get an appointment at a Walgreens about an hour from our home.
|
There was an article in today's local paper about percentage per school district of employees who took advantage of the mass vaccines. What I couldn't decipher was whether they were speaking of teachers or ALL staff.
The school district where I live had 67% of "staff" receive the vaccine. I know of several bus drivers who have been very vocal that they don't plan to get the shot because of the "microchip Bill Gates put inside the vax". (yeah, I went to high school with them). Most districts in the county were in the 65-75% range with 3 outliers. The 2 Catholic schools had a 90% compliance rate. The other, for which I'll withhold my opinion of the district, only had a 55% compliance rate. |

I got in at Meijer for March 10. I was contacted by them, and by Spectrum (who had cancelled us) a few hours after the cancellation. Not exactly a smooth operation!
|
I'm signed up for my first shot!
Here in Louisiana, the requirements were pretty tight: 65+, 55+ with comorbidities, pregnant, and certain professions (healthcare providers, teachers, daycare workers, police). But they just loosened the restrictions so that any adult with a comorbidity can get the shot. Obesity is a comorbidity. I've never before been happy to be fat. :D (Next COVID project: Lose weight.) |
^^^ LOL! Just got my first Pfizer dose today. No ill effects at this point....
I'm glad it was Pfizer, because of the 3 week vs. 4 week interval before the next dose. |
I was able to receive the Johnson & Johnson, one and done!!!!! According to the local news -New Orleans is leading the nation getting people vaccinated.

My Goddaughter (Theta, now an alumna) got the Moderna vaccine. She said the first shot was no big deal but the second shot made her arm feel like she had pitched a doubleheader in softball. I bought some magnets and I’m going to make a sleeve with them so I can wear it after my second shot (magnet therapy).
|
I got the first Moderna shot yesterday! My arm hurts like hell-they really put the intramuscular in intramuscular injection-but other than that I've noticed no side effects. New York has opened appointments to people with a variety of disabilities but I didn't need to provide proof of that to get it, which was nice because I didn't have to rifle through my medical records to figure out how to prove it. The New York State Fairgrounds site in Syracuse had helium balloons and the NC State-Cuse basketball game on, so it was actually almost fun!

I will almost certainly be getting the Pfizer shot. I'm sure they'll tell me when I should schedule my second jab. They may even have scheduled it for me automatically when I signed up for the first shot - obviously I will confirm. Quote:
With the newly relaxed vaccine restrictions in Louisiana, there will be a lot more shots in arms in the next few weeks. Maybe we can actually have our rescheduled Jazz Fest and French Quarter Fest in the fall this year. |
The only person in our family currently eligible for a covid vaccine wants to wait for a one-and-done J&J shot. As slow and haphazard as the vaccine rollout seems in her area, by patiently waiting she may get her wish.

Got my first shot this morning! There's a vaccination center set up at the convention center here in New Orleans, and my husband and I were able to get appointments at the same time. We got the Pfizer shot, and we've been automatically scheduled for our second shot in 3 weeks.
It was all very efficient. I uploaded scans of my ID and insurance card ahead of time, so I wasn't asked for them when I arrived. We had to get our temperatures checked, answer a few screening questions, then we got our jabs and a few pages of information about the shot (like what side effects we might experience), then we had to wait 15 minutes in case of an adverse reaction, and off we went. (So far, no side effects, but I understand that they sometimes kick in the day after you get the shot.) They had a very New Orleanian theme going, including urging people to "be in that number". They also gave everyone a face mask with a big smiley face. We still have a mask mandate in Louisiana, and apparently it's unclear whether vaccinated people can still carry and transmit the coronavirus, so we still have to mask up. I'm so glad I've gotten the shot. I know I won't be fully safe until a couple of weeks after I get my second jab, but I'm on my way - I'm in that number! |
Got my first Pfizer shot on Friday, 3/12. It was held at the University. There are a few sites where to get them. My 2nd shot was automatically scheduled then rescheduled for a few days later. The University site was not going to be administering shot on Good Friday. Hubby got the shot the same day. MIL was able to get the Johnson and Johnson shot at a local church.
I did get a headache for about 3 hours and a sore arm for two days. Hubby and MIL had no side effects. The county I live is has been reported as the worse in distributions for the state. Hopefully things get better. |
Anyone have any info on getting a vaccine in New York?
My bf apparently qualifies as of tomorrow (public-facing non-profit employees) but I want to know if there's a way if I can get one soon. I understand that I'm low-priority (in my 30s, no underlying conditions, able to work from home), but I've heard of many people across the country signing up and receiving one if there are "extras" that would be thrown out if not used within a certain time frame. I've tried searching online, but I'm having no luck. P.S. I'm in Yonkers, Westchester County, right outside NYC. |
There are "waste lists". Call your local CVS, Walgreens, Duane Reade, your primary care provider, wherever. If someone makes an appointment and is a no-show, they'll call people on the waste lists. The vaccine, once unfrozen, cannot be refrozen, so it's better to get it into someone's arm rather than throw it away. I don't know if they're doing this in New York, but they are doing it in Louisiana ... it's worth a phone call.

^^^ That's what my daughter is trying to do through Meijer. Her boyfriend's mom has a pharmacist friend who will call her if they have left overs. Suddenly pharmacists are everyone's best friends.
If I hear from her, I'll message you so you can pass it on to your son. |
I think it crappy that people do not cancel their COVID vaccine appointment and are a no show. They are taking away a spot from someone who truly wants to be vaccinated.

I got my first dose of Moderna on 03/07/21. My arm was pretty sore the day I got the shot (about a 5/10) but the next day went up to about a 7/10 and I started to feel like I was coming down with a cold. I took some Tylenol and it was smooth sailing from there! Scheduled for my second dose on 04/06/21.

I want to report that my wife had her last shot—Moderna—yesterday afternoon (3/19).
She was fine till about 9:30 p.m. and was getting tired so she turned it early. Last night was rough: chills and fever. She slept 11 hours and woke up with a headache. (Ibuprofen helped a little). She ate sparingly today and has dozed on and off. We’re watching NCAA March Madness now and she keeps falling asleep on the sofa ! (I resisted the temptation to take unflattering photos!) But she says it’s a SMALL PRICE to pay; she’s grateful that I’ve shared many of your reactions with her. |
I got my first Moderna shot on Friday. I had a sore upper arm (felt like I had just finished a very intense workout) for a couple days, but that was it. I hope that's all I get after the second shot!
Oh yeah, for those of you who are needlephobic like I am: I did feel the shot go in, but it wasn't too bad. My cat kneading me with his claws is much more painful! (I guess he's been toughening me up!) |
Got the first Moderna vaccine the other day. I was a bit tired that evening, so I went to bed early. My arm was pretty sore that day too. I felt fine the next day and the arm soreness wore off by the afternoon. I think not babying my arm helped, possibly. I played basketball with my son, and my arm felt completely better within an hour or two.
|
Had both, no side effects. I look forward to being able to eat in restaurants again.
|
Y'all's restaurants aren't open?
