Ok, when I rushed (didn't pledge or anything) at USC I TOTALLY still remember two or three lines from two houses' songs:
We love delta gamma..... Don't you want to be a D-G too? Don't you want to be a D-G too? A-L-P-H-A-P-H-I...Alpha Phi! A-L-P-H-A-P-H-I...Alpha Phi!! I doubt these are particularly identifying quotes, but I somehow still remember them!! |

Your chapter didn't sing the middle verse to "A Rose ever blooming? I love the middle verse! Anyhow, DG did a chant a my rush that I always remember and still think of any time that I see DG letters, it goes: D-ELTA G-A-double M-A. DG yeah say DG woo! And Gamma Phi had: G Phi, G Phi B Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta G Phi, G Phi B, Gamma Phi Beta girls. My chapter actually has a new one that we swiped from somewhere (another AOII chapter) and ALL the Rho Chis were singing it the last two years. It has a really snappy tune that just would not come across in a post very well at all...but I sing it to myself as I clean the house all the time. :) And then there is my absolute favorite AOII chant: Toast to AOII, which if I wrote out the whole thing it would be longer than all of my posts combined on GC. |
This is my favorite from my chapter:
(It's a real song called "I've got a friend like you". We changed a few of the names at the beginning to make it more current) Batman and Robin Chandler and Joey ______ and ______ ( I can't remember these names) and Snoopy and Charlie Friends through the thick and thin Friends till the very end I will be by your side 'Cause you and I are friends for life I-I-I-I-I want to you know I need you I-I-I-I-I want you to know it's true There's no no no no way I'd make it without you It's so good to know That I've got a friend like you You say it's black I see it's white You say it's left But I know it's right No matter where we go Be it through the highs or lows I will be by your side 'Cause you and I are friends for life I-I-I-I-I want to you know I need you I-I-I-I-I want you to know it's true There's no no no no way I'd make it without you It's so good to know That I've got a friend like you |

Alpha Chi Goodbye song
I cannot remember a single song from my formal rush. However, I do remember a few that we did this past spring that are STILL in my head.
The goodbye song is awesome: It's time to go we (pause) hate to say goodbye Hope that you had (pause) fun with Alpha Chi We must part for (pause) just a little while Chi-chi-alpha chi omega alpha chi-chi alpha chi omega alpha chi and then I didn't like this following song becaues it sounded so self-righteous sort of: A Chi O is the only way to go we are the best forget the rest we want you all to know It's only A l P h A c H i O m E g AAAAA we're number one we're second to none We're alpha chi omegaaaaaaa That's it :) |

HMMMMM....I remember that song too, but I don't remember it being that clean! LOL! Which makes me wonder...do other chapters have 'dirty' songs? My old roommates were XO's and we used to compare songs. Should I be talking about this? LOL! aj |
I know atleast some chapters at USC do have "dirty songs"...or so some friends have told me :)
|
Quote:
So yes, we have "dirty" songs.... ;) ;) ;) |
Generally we try to avoid dirty songs on GC - although we busted out a few in chat last night. ;) I think it just gives poor impressions to the PNMs on here, and I'm sure some groups have songs which are derogatory to others...
|
The rest of that Phi Mu chant that SoTrue was thinking of goes like this:
I will be T-R-U-E true to P-H-I-M-U Phi Mu And I will L-O-V-E love her just as you will D-O do And if you want F-U-N fun she is the O-N-E the oooooooooooooone.... And you will find your jolly times have B-E-G-U-N begun! Our chapter uses a version of Linger that has three verses... Mmmm mmm I wanna linger Mmmm mmm a little longer Mmmm mmm a little longer here with you. Mmmm mmm it's such a perfect night Mmmm mmm it doesn't seem quite right Mmmm mmm that this should be my last with you. Mmmm mmm so as the years go by Mmmm mmm we'll all look back and sigh-- Mmmm mmm this is good-night, and not good-bye! I loved that AXO Jimmy Buffett song! Sigma Sigma Sigma also did a version of "Fins" which was like "Sigmas to the left, Sigmas to the right" something something something. Actually, anything the Sigmas chanted was catchy. :) |
The Phi Mus on my campus always sing, (I think I got it right)
Flim Flam, Hot Damn! Who the hell are you? We're the best of all the rest 'cuz we're Phi Mu! I love it! It's so catchy! Re: "Dirty" songs, we had a risque one, but never any mean ones. If anyone on our campus has one, I don't think I've heard it. The Delts on my campus have a dirty song that is just  The song is very catchy, and it used to go through my head all the time and make me giggle. All I have to say is, those boys got some confidence! LOL |
During our second round we sing this one:
Weeeell the time has come and we fear you must go, We are happy to have had you and we want you all to know, The Alpha Chi's all hope you enjoyed your stay, And that you'll come back(clap clap)another day We've got spark, pep, personality, We're all the things a college girl should be, The Al-pha Chis are hard to beat bop-bop bop-bop and there is snapping and stuff all throughout the song |
Here's a chant that's so easy...and it's so easy to stick in your head, it drove me NUTS the night after Pref Night:
Hey all you alpha chis? What's up? A! Pump it up, pump it up! Chi! O! What else? What else? We're proud to be Red and Green all day! Here we go, here we go (Repeat about a billion times) |
I like the song we sing when the PNM's leave each party:
When you're at home all safe in bed Sigma-Tri spirit running through your head When you wake you'll know it's true Sigma Sigma Sigma needs a sister like you. Bye bye bye bye bye bye from sigma-tri When you wake you'll know it's true Sigma Sigma Sigma needs a sister like you Bye bye bye bye bye bye from sigma-tri When you wake you'll know it's true Sigma Sigma Sigma needs a sister like you I know that one was stuck in my head forever after I went through recruitment. Courtney |
my absolute favorite alpha phi songs (i don't remember any of the other songs i've heard) are...
With An A with an a, with an a, with an a-l-p with a p, with a p, with p-h-a with an alp and a pha, ALPHA PHI sing it ivy, sing it ivy, sing it to the sky...WHAT shout it ivy, shout it ivy, shout it til we die with an a, with an a, with an a-l-p with a p, with a p, with p-h-a with an alp and a pha, ALPHA PHI All I Needed (this is a long song, but my favorite verse is...) As we branch out on our own We still have our home And our sisters Friendships growing stronger with time Like the ivy that twines Last forever and my favorite favorite... Who is She? Who is she? She's an Alpha Phi (x3) Alpha Phi, the best sorority. She's got grace, style, personality (x3) Three great traits of every Alpha Phi. So we say, come on and see, Come and see, see an Alpha Phi. When you do, you will agree That the best to be is to be an Alpha Phi. Who is she? She's an Alpha Phi (x3) Alpha Phi, the best sorority. |
Oh! The owl, the key, the fleur-de-lis
Symbol, badge, color, flower of our fraternity Loyalty, sincerity, honor, and fidelity Kappa Kappa Gamma is for me! Kappa Gamma, KKG walla walla walla! ::act silly.. jazz hands!:: Kappa Gamma: you're for me! Its a fun chant that my chapter's PDC taught us from Chi.. and its also a fun way to learn about Kappa! |
We use several songs that are popular and change the words last year we did
Madonna Material Girl as Sorority Girl Brittany Spears Crazy as Fuzzies N'Sync It's Gonna be me as It's Gonna be Xi We have new popular song sfor this year, If any anyone want the words to these pm me and I'll send them to ya. Oh yes and chants... A-L-P-H-A alpha A-L-P-H-A D-E-L-T-A delta D-E-L-T-A We are the Alpha Xi's We are the ones for you uh-huh We are the Alpha Xi's Don't you wanna be a Fuzzie too Don't you wanna be a Fuzzie too |
Quote:
That one stuck with me too... "I'm Chi O born and Chi O bred and when I die, I'll be Chi O dead, so rah rah for Chi Omega! Rah rah for Chi Omega! Rah rah for Chi Omeeeega!" And there was also one from Chi Omega that involved clapping and went somehting like: "Hi le hi lo hi lep lep lep. These Chi O girls have pep pep pep" I don't really remember that one so well. AST did one that was: "Talkin' bout Alpha (Alpha) Alpha (Alpha) Alpha Sigma Tau. Talkin' bout Alpha Sigma Tau. Alpha Sigma Tau." I wound up joining a co-ed service frat. instead, but rush was fun... and the songs still stick with me :) |
We did the "With an A, with an A, with an A L P".. but did three rounds and it was Alpha Gamma Delta. Then Alpha Xi's started doing it and I remember us being angry that they "stole" our song. It looks like many sororities have used this song!
The one I remember most was Fourteen Pearls "I just wanna be an Alpha Gamma Delta (boom boom) I just wanna wear 14 pearls (boom boom boom boom) If I can't have this, which I know is best I don't want no badge at all" (Boom boom boom boom)" "I don't wanna be an Alpha Alpha Alpha (boom boom) I don't wanna be a Beta Beta Beta (boom boom) If I can't have this, which I know is best, I don't want no badge at all (boom boom boom boom)" "I don't wanna wear a sapphire or a ruby(Boom boom_, Oh no those aren't the jewels for me (boom boom boom boom) If I can't have this, which I know is best, I don't want no badge at all" Most of the chapters I talk to don't use this one anymore because it's Non-Panhellenic and they say it encourages ISP and they are afraid they'll get recruitment infractions for singing it. The one that got me at Pref goes like this.. I was in tears and still find myself in tears when I hear it: AGD AGD, AGD, That's my Fraternity, We are true sisters now, And evermore shall be, And where ever life may lead us, throughout the coming years, We will always remember our Fraternity so dear. Our bond of sisterhood, can never be denied Share each by each of us, by this we do abide You may search the world all over, and never ever find, That special kind of feeling, it's ours all the time, AGD. There's one other that always brings tears to my eyes.. Our Time is Short Our time is short, our moments fleeting, like floating grains of sand. But wherever you go and whatever you do, Take the love of Alpha Gam. For it seems that our days pass so quickly away, And there's so much left to do. But still there is much that we can share We can give our love to you. It is sung in rounds and very pretty. After the last convention though, I couldn't get this one out of my head: How I love those Alpha Gams so deep deep, so down down, so deep deep so down down in my heart (kiss) Whoo! |

I started crying just reading that Dee! I have it stuck in my head again now :)

I guess AEPhi's chants aren't memorable enough... nobody's mentioned one :(
We did a very catchy one to the tune of "Supercalifragilistic": A-L-P-H-A-E-P-S-I-L-O-N-Phi I know that you can say it if you really give a try When asked the best sorority I always do reply A-L-P-H-A-E-P-S-I-L-O-N-Phi ! The year I rushed, AXO did a Coca-Cola theme that used the "Always Coca-Cola" song from the ads. "Always Coca-Cola" became "Alpha Chi Omega" and there was a line about "always the real thing" in there. It was a while before I could get a soda without thinking of AXO. :p The only "bad" thing with that theme is that their t-shirts said "Alpha Chi Classic" (written out like the Coca-Cola logo) and AXO never goes by Alpha Chi at my school... a bunch of us PNMs thought we'd wandered into Alpha Phi's rush room by mistake... When I was a rho chi, I "accidentally" learned a Sigma Kappa cheer. A couple of us, missing our chants and cheers, decided to try to come up with a rho chi cheer. One of us (a SK) suggested: R-R-R-H-O C-C-C-H-I R-H-O---C-H-I Rhoooooooo Chi! Another SK rho chi pointed out that we couldn't use that, because (she whispered): S-I-G-M-A K-A-P-P-A S-I-G---K-A-P Siiiiiiigma Kappa! (I think that's how it went.) We never did figure out a rho chi cheer that was sufficiently different from any of the sororities' cheers... *shrug* |
I think most of my favorite Zeta chants have been mentioned except for one from my rush days in the early 60's.
ZETATAUALPHA ZETATAUALPHA That is the way to say You are a ZTA Best sorority at Alabam! Zeeeta Zeeeta Best sorority at Alabam! The one I remember most from my rush was from Pi Phi. I've never forgotten the words - they stick in my head! Pi Phi Beta Phi P-I-P-H-I Pi Phi You for Pi Phi Me for Pi Phi We are all for Pi Beta Phi! The other was from Alpha Gam - Alpha Gama Alpha Gamma Delta Alpha Gamma Alpha Gamma Delt! Alpha Gam! Alpha Gam! They did it over and over and over!!! I've thoroughly enjoyed this thread. What fun! Yes, many of the songs are sung by the many sororities - just the name has been changed. In addition, many have been sung for over forty years. Thanks everybody for sharing. |
way back in the dark ages(1978) when i was a rush counselor, the theta's did the cutest song to the tune of the current(at that moment) dr. pepper song. they sang the whole song with appropriate theta lyrics and did a dance(at fsu then we all did yard dances in front of our houses after the "rushees" had assembled and awaited the start of the party. anyway, it was the "i'm a pepper, you're a pepper, he's a pepper, she's a pepper, wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?", except theta replaced pepper. the dr. pepper ad was showing on tv at the time, so i felt they were very clever to use it, because everytime the ad came on, i thought "theta" and i am sure the rushees must have too. the chi o's always did this cute ditty on the first day of rush, where they broke up into groups by the part of the state(or country) they were from and each group came out of the front door as a group and said a poem about their city-it sounds hokey, but it really was cute. and the tri delts had this cheer they did after the girls had been escorted out of the house that went "oh, oh(long and drawn out) the delta, the delta, the delta, delta delta, and then i could never catch the words, because clapping was involved and they said them really fast in a rythmic beat, but they ended the cheer the same way it started and it did stick in your mind. we ended our parties with that old standby, the greek alphabet song-another mind sticker! i wonder if the sororities banded together way back when and collectively commissioned a study for someone to develope rush songs and chants that could never be forgotten?

I rushed at Indiana University. I remember bits and pieces of a couple other chants. Delta Zeta had one with a line in the middle that went "We're loyal to you DELTA ZETA!" (It could have been something else. I just remember the shouted DELTA ZETA very clearly!) Pi Beta Phi did one that went like "Pi Beta Phi, Pi Phi, Pi Beta Phi!" And Delta Delta Delta did the song that sigma3 posted for the PNMs leaving, only it was Delta Tri and Tri Delt, of course. :) I didn't join a sorority back then but I still remember these chants and songs. |
he's a theta?
of course not! i was quoting the original ad. it was "she's a theta, she's a theta." lisa
|
This chant was pretty popular over at Alpha Sigma Phi's Gamma Theta (University of Miami) chapter:
We're from Alpha Sig! We're here to stay you dig! We're gonna romp, we're gonna stomp We're gonna make it big! Gimme an Alpha! (ALPHA!!!) Gimme a Sigma! (SIGMA!!!) Gimme a Phi (PHI!!!) THE LOYALTY SONG Now everyone knows Alpha Sigma Phi, That they are the best just cannot be denied; They have that style, that smile, that friendly way, No matter where you'll go you'll recognize them, and you'll say, "Now they're the Greeks I'd like to know They've got that Alpha Sig fight, zip and go, And just to see them smile is quite a treat, Can't be beat, Alpha Sigma Phi! FOR HE'S AN ALPHA SIG For he's an Alpha Sig, He's a man you ought to know, For he's an Alpha Sig, He's not too fast and not too slow, He's a gentleman and a scholar with a heart beneath his vest; He looks like all the others, but he's better than the rest! For he's an Alpha Sig, He's a man you ought to, a man you want to, a man you're sure to know! Usually added to the songs above is the chant: Alpha Sigma Phi! (Hey!) Alpha Sigma Phi! (Hey!) Alpha Sigma Phi!!! And my personal favorite of all the Alpha Sig songs: COME LET'S GATHER Come, let's gather once again and sing a song with spirits bold and high From our lips the praises proudly ring of dear old Alpha Sigma Phi. We'll pledge our hearts, our lives, our love as in the happy days gone by; Let the words that ever linger near, be the name of dear old Alpha Sigma Phi! |

I remember the Alpha Gam's did one to the tune of "Macho Man" by the Village People...I only remember this because it's so catchy. I really hate it when I get it in my head because I can't get it out!!! It goes: Al-pha Al-pha Gam You've got to be an Alpha Gam and of course they made up words to the verses, and they had these cute little hand motions. |

I am a T I am a T-H I am a T-H-E-T-A And I have T-H-E-T-A love in my H-E-A-R-T That's why I F-L-Y my K-I-T-E here at (school initials) [repeat, getting faster and faster :)] Funny thing is, I remember learning the song in church school as: I am a C I am a C-H I am a C-H-R-I-S-T-I-A-N And I have C-H-R-I-S-T in my H-E-A-R-T And I will L-I-V-E E-T-E-R-N-A-L-L-Y |
Who who who am I?
I'm an Alpha Delta Pi Who who who am I? A D PI (whoo!) *** This was a great cheer for right after the women left (since they were all in the hallway outside our door!) The S is for Super The U is for Unique The P is for Pi and you know we can't be beat The E is for Excellence The R is for Refined We are number 1 so keep that in mind Super Pi (uh uh uh-uh) Super Pi (uh uh uh-uh) Pi Pi ADPi Like it Love it ADPi Want it need it gotta repeat it I just love that ADPi When I was a'growin high Always wanted ADPi Even then I always knew How much I loved that white and blue A-L-P-H-A D-E-L-T-A P-I Pi O My Alpha Delta Pi (whoo!) Give Me An A (A we got your A we got your A) Give Me A D (D we got your D we got your D) Give Me A Pi (Pi we got your Pi we got your Pi) Now shhh, hush, you don't want to mess with us! Do ya? Do ya? Do ya? Do ya? Do ya? Do ya? NO...I don't think so! :) At the end of the Give me an A cheer, our TCC taught us a new ending, that went (instead of shh, hush...) Now what does that spell? A-D-PI I can't hear you! A-D-PI ADPi once, ADPi twice, ADPi all the time sure is nice Ohhhh, yeah! When I went through recruitment, I remembered the ADPi's from the very beginning because they sang the Greek Alphabet song, and I use it often and since I've graduated, no one in my chapter knows the song, so my diamond sister is always calling me and having me remind her of it over the phone! :D We also sing Linger at Pref, but our chapter uses this instead for the second verse: Hmmm, it's such a perfect night Hmmm, it almost seems quite right Hmmm, that this should be our first with you. The one chant I remember from Gamma Phi Beta (they would sing this at all sorority gatherings/competitions....Derby Days, Greek Week, etc) went: G-A-M-M-A Gamma Phi Beta, hey! I know I heard a lot of Pi Phi and Tri-Delta chants when recruitment was going on (since we shared a hallway along with Gamma Phi Beta for our CR's), but for the life of me I can't remember them...usually we were cheering as loudly as we could to drown them out of the PNM's hearing! :) We also have a Hottie Tottie we sing, but I will refrain from typing it all out! ;) |
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH BIM BAM HOT DAYUM
WE'RE THE GIRLS OF DELTA GAM FIRED UP AND READY TO GO WE'RE THE GIRLS YOU NEED TO KNOW LOOK AROUND AND YOU WILL SEE NUMBER ONE IS DELTA GEE!!! DELTAAAAAAAAAA GAMMAAAAA DELTAAAAAAAAAA GAMMAAAAA :) |
Waaaaay back in the day when my cousin pledged Pi Phi, they made up a song to the tune of "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" that was real catchy. I remember the chorus:
Kappa Kappa key is not for me Theta Theta kite does not fly right Chi Omega owl is oh so foul Pi Phi is the one for me! |
Re: he's a theta?
Quote:
I'm a Theta, She's a Theta, Wouldn't you like to be a Theta too? (start clapping) Be a Theta, Kappa Alpha Theta, Woo Be a Theta, Kappa Alpha Theta (repeating) I think it's really catchy and we often heard when I was there how it had gotten stuck into people's heads. Our Gamma Phi Beta chapter also did the chant that, I can only remember the chorus for, because they also had alternating arm gestures to go with it while the chanted, "Gam-ma Phi Be-ta, Gam-ma Phi Be-ta" I remember them using that when I went thru Formal in 1997 and I'm pretty sure they still do. I never realized how many other chapter's had "Boom-Boom" and "Remember" songs. |
