what an awesome attitude you have! definately look into COB at GPhiB/other chapters, or if you don't find a home there, AKA. i definately recommend contacting AKA's president, if you felt a bond there! it never hurts to meet other people--whether they're greek or not, or whether you're interested in their chapter or not. i don't know much about NPHC recruitment. there's talk of getting AKA on our campus, but so far there are no NPHC orgs. good luck with whatever you decide!

Leilanimoon,
I understand completely about going for the one group you want. I know that our schools are completely different, but I wanted to register my opinion of COB. When I was a freshman I knew that Formal Recruitment wasn't for me. I didn't even want to be Greek. I was too closed-minded. But once I realized that I did want to be Greek here, I knew that I wouldn't go anywhere else. I wanted to be a Kappa and nothing but a Kappa, so I rushed them full-out and didn't even waste my time with organizations that I knew I wouldn't fit with. That's the beauty of COBs. And if I recall correctly, you did like Gamma Phi, right? Of course, my decision was made after a full year of being on campus and knowing well members of all three groups, so your perspective is different. But I just wanted to encourage you not to give up on NPC and COBs yet. KKC |
I think you should look into finding more info about AKA. Like, go to their board on this forum, go to their website, and call the woman you met. I think you should open your arms to them, just as they have opened the door for you. It can't hurt to see what they have to say. The AKA's at my school were the most down-to-earth, intelligent, outgoing, philanthropic and fun women. I have nothing to say but wonderful things for AKA and they have my utmost respect.
PS things happen for a reason. |
Alpha Kappa Alpha and the other NPHC sorority Delta Sigma Theta at UCSB are both strong chapters that do AMAZING things. AKA won Chapter Excellence for an NPHC group at Greek Awards last year, and DST got Community Service, Campus Involvement & Outstanding New Member Program.
If you are interested in those types of orgs., You should go talk to Stephan in the OSL (he was an Alpha Phi Alpha) because he has lots of information to share. If you PM me I'll give you his phone number and email address. Also, the newly re-vamped Greek website will be up soon, and I will send you the link when it is approved. There are 37 Greek orgs. at UCSB - spanning every interest you can imagine. There IS a home out there waiting for you ;) Delia |
