Singer Barry White undergoing dialysis, awaits kidney
Thursday, September 26, 2002 Posted: 1:31 AM EDT (0531 GMT) White had suffered kidney failure. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://i.cnn.net/cnn/2002/SHOWBIZ/Mu...y.white.ap.jpg -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- Soul singer Barry White, battling kidney failure brought on by years of high blood pressure, is undergoing dialysis and is hoping to receive a kidney transplant, his record label said Wednesday. At the request of White's family, no details about his condition were disclosed, and it was not revealed whether he was hospitalized or living at home while receiving treatment on an out-patient basis. "Doctors confirm that Barry White has a history of hypertension (high blood pressure), which has led to a decline of kidney function," according to a statement from Island Def Jam Music Group. "He has started a course of maintenance dialysis therapy. Once stabilized, he will be a candidate for a kidney transplant." A spokeswoman at the label said White had suffered kidney failure. The hefty 58-year-old performer, known for his rich bass vocals and musical love-maestro persona, has provided "the mood" for countless candlelight dinners and late-night trysts with such ballads as "Can't Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe," and "You're the First, the Last, My Everything." He won the first two Grammys of his 40-year career 2 1/2 years ago for the album "Staying Power." Hopefully, after he stabilized, they will be able to find a kidney that will match. Organ donations among the AA community are low. :( |

Moving on...... Lamman Rucker, the tall-dark-and-handsome actor who plays attorney T. Marshall Travers on the Emmy-award-winning soap opera, "As The World Turns," is set to appear on a new TV series called, "A Dating Story." The new show, which premiers tonight on TLC, will be hooking him up on a blind date with singer Chanelle Haynes from the gospel group Trin-I-tee 5:7. During an interview yesterday with the BET Radio Network, Lamman said that he was asked to be on the show because things didn't work out with someone else. He explained, "Paul Taylor, who is also on [`As The World Turns']—he plays the character Isaac—was originally slated to be the guy from our show that was supposed to be on the date with Chanelle, but that didn't work out… I think there ended up being scheduling conflicts." Lamman says he was happy that it ended up being him. Lamman and Chanelle's "Dating Story" begins with separate interviews, and then the camera pals around them as they individually prepare for their date and finally acts as a voyeur to their encounter. For the results, watch TLC tonight for the premiere of "A Dating Story." The "Page Six" section of the "New York Post" reports that rap mogul Sean "P. Diddy" Combs will most likely fly a bunch of his friends to an exotic location for his 33rd birthday on November 4th. According to the paper, Diddy is planning to blow $1.5 million to fly 100 of his closest friends to Punta Canta in the Dominican Republic where he'll host a bash at Oscar de la Renta's swanky villa. However, Combs' reps told the Post that, although he'll most likely have a party out of town, details have yet to be decided. The "New York Post" reports that there was a sighting of Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles taking golf lessons together in the Bahamas. Jennifer Lopez will reportedly play a hot bisexual babe on HBO's "Sex and the City." According to the Internet Movie Database web site, J.Lo will play, quote, a slut who seduces Kim Cattrall's character [Samantha] only to wind up stealing her boyfriend." Meanwhile, J.Lo has helped pump up those rumors about her being engaged to Ben Affleck. During a radio interview last week (with Wendy Williams of New York's WBLS), J.Lo said she could neither "confirm nor deny" reports that she and Affleck are heading toward the altar. And what about the National Enquirer story that said Lopez started dating Affleck while she was still married to Cris Judd? (Cris Judd's dad gave that story to the Enquirer.) J.Lo says that's completely untrue because she's "a very faithful person" who "believes in loyalty. Meanwhile, filmmaker Joel Schumacher hopes to direct Jennifer Lopez and Will Smith in a remake of "A Star Is Born." Will told TV Guide back in July that he was down for the idea. TLC's fourth album, "3D," will include a special tribute to the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes (who died in an automobile accident in Honduras in April). The new TLC album (which is due out on November 12 on Arista Records) features a joint called "Dirty" (written and produced by Missy Elliott and Timbaland) which features T-Boz and Chilli saying: the remaining members of TLC take time to "Left Eye would want us to break it down like this… Left Eye gets a moment of silence." Another song, called "Turntable," sounds like T-Boz and Chilli's way of dealing with the sadness of Left Eye's death. The Rodney Jerkins-produced jam doesn't mention Left Eye by name, but the lyrics talk about overcoming a tragedy: "You had your ups and downs/It happened for a reason/'Cause after there was showers/There will come a change of seasons/So please don't give up now/'Cause sun shines through the clouds/It's gonna be all right." Then, the chorus says: "Don't ask yourself why/Just look to the sky/Believe it/So you'll see the other side." |
Lakers new "Daddy"
Bryant's Wife Expecting First Child
Mon Sep 30, 8:23 PM ET EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) - Kobe Bryant, a three-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, is going to be a first-time father. Bryant said Monday his wife, Vanessa, is expecting a daughter in February. "Beautiful, isn't it?" Bryant said, grinning. Bryant said the couple is mulling names. "We change our mind like every other day," he said. "We're just taking our time with it." The couple married in April 2001. Teammate Shaquille O'Neal, the unmarried father of five children, has volunteered to be a godparent, but Bryant said he has family members who will fill that role. "Experience is the best teacher," O'Neal said. "The only lesson it's probably going to teach him is the same lesson it taught me: Don't bring your stresses home. Because the kids see that, the wife sees that, so you have to leave the stresses of the job here." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright © 2002 Yahoo! Posthumous Aaliyah CD Planned
by Julie Keller Oct 7, 2002, 12:15 PM PT Aaliyah is gone, but her music will live on. A CD featuring several previously unreleased tracks from the late R&B star--killed in an August 2001 plane crash--is set for release in November. The currently untitled album from Blackground Records and Universal will compile the aforementioned new tunes, as well as old hits and remixes of other songs in her catalog. a d v e r t i s e m e n t Blackground says the new songs, which Aaliyah recorded just prior to her death, are a blend of up-tempo numbers and soul-wrenching ballads. Though it has been more than a year since her death, she still has devoted fans who say they'll honor her memory by purchasing her new disc. "Aaliyah is the one and only princess of hip hop and R&B. Let's keep her name alive," pleads one fan on a VH1 message board. The album is the latest Aaliyah-related project to surface after her death. Warner Bros. released the vampire flick The Queen of Damned, with Aaliyah in the title role, in February to mediocre box office. She also received posthumous musical nods for her self-titled 2001 release, including nominations in top categories in the 2002 Grammy and Soul Train Awards. TUNE-IN ALERT! Aaliyah: The E! True Hollywood Story An in-depth look at her life and tragic death, featuring exclusive footage and new interviews. Airs October 23 The 22-year-old singer and her crew were killed August 25, 2001, when their twin-engine Cessna crashed in the Bahamas shortly after takeoff. Since then, a steady stream of controversy has swirled around the incident. Toxicology tests released in July determined that the pilot of the plane had cocaine and alcohol in his system at the time of the crash. He was also not authorized to fly the Cessna and had been recently convicted of drug possession and theft. The plane itself was also overloaded when it lifted off from Marsh Harbour Airport on Abaco Island. There's also an ongoing criminal investigation targeting the plane's owner. Meanwhile, families of the deceased have launched several wrongful death suits over the crash and the Bahamian funeral home that prepared Aaliyah's body is considering legal action against Virgin Records for an unpaid bill. |

Braxton Accuses Duo of Swiping Song
Thu Oct 10,10:36 AM ET NEW YORK (AP) - Toni Braxton (news) says one of her songs was stolen by Jay-Z and Destiny's Child singer Beyonce Knowles. Braxton says a few months ago, she laid down tracks for "Me and My Boyfriend" and was going to include the tune in her new CD, due out next month. But a rep for her label says she let her friend, Def Jam Records chief Kevin Liles, get a sneak preview of the song, which also includes a sample from Tupac Shakur's song "Me And My Girlfriend." Braxton says Jay-Z and Knowles heard the song and used part of the hook and melody for their duet, "Bonnie and Clyde." The publicist says Braxton sees what happened with the song as "unethical." In an interview on a New York radio station, Braxton was even more forthright with her feelings, saying Knowles and Jay-Z are taking money out of her kids' college funds. Braxton is currently expecting her second child, with her husband, Keri Lewis of Mint Condition. Jay-Z's camp is defending the rapper against Braxton's allegations. Kayne West, who produced the duet, tells MTV he "had no idea" that Braxton was planning to re-do the song. As for the idea that someone at Def Jam got wind of the idea and beat her to the punch, West says "she can't act like ain't nobody ever heard 'Me and My Girlfriend." West says he could understand Braxton's beef if it was an original song, but notes that people hear Tupac's song all the time. "It's just coincidence. I came up with the idea while listening to Shakur's music." |
BBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Whatever to all of them. Unethical?????!!!?????? Folks would not have this problem if their music was ORIGINAL. |
RIP Get Christie Love
I was 10 years old when Get Christie Love was on ABC-TV. Christie Love was a cleaned-up version of Cleopatra Jones and Foxy Brown.
From abc7.com: Blaze Kills Actress LOS ANGELES — Actress Teresa Graves, who appeared regularly on "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" and starred in the television series "Get Christie Love," died early Thursday after a fire raced through her Hyde Park home, authorities said. Graves, 54, was found unconscious in a rear bedroom by firefighters, said police Sgt. Henry Miller. She was taken to an area hospital where she died. The blaze began shortly before 12:30 a.m. at Graves' 1,600-square-foot home, city fire spokesman Brian Humphrey said. When firefighters arrived they found the rear part of the home engulfed in flames. The blaze appeared to have started in a 200-square-foot enclosed patio that was added on to the original home, Humphrey said. Smoke alarms inside the home were functional, fire officials said. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Graves started her career as a singer with the Doodletown Pipers. She later turned to acting, appearing on "Laugh-In" in 1969 and 1970. She also played supporting roles in several films during the 1970s, including "Black Eye," "That Man Bolt" and "Vampira." She landed a leading spot in the TV series "Get Christie Love," which ran from September 1974 to July 1975. She left acting in the mid-1970s in favor of religion, according to Sandra Brennan of All Movie Guide. Soror, I added the picture. http://a1259.g.akamai.net/f/1259/558...0/10053717.jpg |

3-genre threat Murphy signs with DreamWorks
Thu Oct 10, 2:20 AM ET By Zorianna Kit and Chris Gardner LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) --- Following a successful collaboration on the blockbuster feature "Shrek," for which a sequel is due out in the summer, the film's co-star Eddie Murphy (news) has inked a two-year, first-look production deal with DreamWorks Pictures. The deal cements a long-standing relationship between the star and studio topper Jeffrey Katzenberg that goes back 20 years to when Katzenberg was an executive at Paramount and Murphy was a rising comedian making his big-screen debut in the studio's 1982 feature film "48 HRS." Their relationship continued on such Paramount features as "Trading Places" and "Beverly Hills Cop" before Katzenberg left to join the Walt Disney Co. in 1984. Murphy, who hasn't formally had a production deal with any studio, has enjoyed a close relationship with Imagine Entertainment, for whom he has made such films as "The Nutty Professor" and its sequel. And he has had successful ties with DreamWorks on the studio's hit CGI family film "Shrek" and its sequel. "Eddie works in not one but three genres: family, action-comedy and irreverent comedy," DreamWorks production head Michael De Luca said. "He has a wealth of ideas that have yet to be exploited, and between him and our writers and director relationships, we can come up with great projects." Murphy, repped by WMA, is in production on Revolution Studios' "Daddy Day Care." He next stars in Columbia Pictures' "I Spy." In addition to Murphy, DreamWorks has signed "In the Bedroom" writer-director Todd Field to a two-year deal. Details of the deal -- which does include overhead -- are being kept under wraps. After bowing at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival (news - web sites), "Bedroom" went on to be a critical favorite, nominated for a multitude of awards this year, including five Oscar noms. More recently, Field received the American Film Institute (news - web sites)'s 12th annual Franklin J. Schaffner Alumni Medal at the Tom Hanks (news) life achievement award fete. Field, who has yet to direct a follow-up to "Bedroom," declined comment on the deal. The writer-director, repped by Endeavor, began his career as an actor playing a Swedish goalie in the Canadian/French co-production "He Shoots, He Scores." His more recent credits include "Eyes Wide Shut," "Walking and Talking" and "Twister." ********* SUING SINGER NOT ‘GHETTO ENOUGH' -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- October 9, 2002 -- Naturi Naughton, a former member of the platinum-selling teen group 3LW, claims she was forced out of the R&B trio because she was not "ghetto enough." Naughton, a native of East Orange, N.J., charged that the "purported" manager of the group, Michelle Williams, said Naughton, 18, "did not present the appropriate ‘project girl image,' " and berated her as "Ms. Two Parent Household." The lawsuit was filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Newark against group members Kiely Williams, 16, of Annandale, N.J., and Adrienne Bailon, 18, of New York. Also sued was Michelle Williams, who is Kiely's sister and another sister, Tse Williams, owner of Nine Lives Entertainment of Newark; Big Cat Management of New York, and Sony Music. Messages seeking comment from a publicist and Big Cat Management were not immediately returned. AP |

Coolidge courts Berry's 'Girl' for director position
LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) --- Director Martha Coolidge is near a deal to board the Halle Berry starrer "Brown Eyed Girl" for MGM and studio-based Trilogy Entertainment. Coolidge is in final negotiations to develop and direct the project, described as a character piece about the ups and downs in love and life of a contemporary woman. Garry Williams penned the screenplay and is working on a rewrite with Coolidge, sources said. The project reteams the duo, who worked together on HBO's "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge," a telefilm that landed Berry a Golden Globe and an Emmy for her work as Dandridge, the first black woman to earn a best actress Oscar nomination. Berry is producing "Girl" with her manager Vincent Cirrincione along with Trilogy toppers Pen Densham and John Watson. Guy McElwaine will also produce. At the studio, the project is being shepherded by executive vp production Elizabeth Ingold. "Girl" is one of two projects Berry has in development with MGM -- the other being a remake of 1974's "Foxy Brown" -- after her work in the studio's upcoming James Bond flick, "Die Another Day." The project does not yet have a start date, so it's unclear when it would fit into Berry's schedule. She is also on board to star in "The Guide" for Paramount Pictures and producer Mark Gordon. Lee Tamahori just signed on to direct that project, which is due to begin lensing early next year (HR 10/4). **Has Beens? I guess not, pt. 2 New Edition May Sign With Puffy's Bad Boy Label Posted by MusicMan on Thursday, October 10 @ 01:14:35 EDT MTV News reports New Edition is in talks with Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs' Bad Boy Records label to sign a deal. Johnny Gill says that Diddy will in fact be contributing tracks to the group's 20th anniversary LP, which is slated for release next year. "We're going to be working with Puffy on the album," Gill revealed. "He's helping get the album together. He just came out to several of the shows. He's such a big fan. I looked around and saw him at a few shows. He said, 'I saw you guys and, excuse my expression, but y'all got me acting like a bitch. I'm here to take notes'." |
Ex-3LW Member Makes Sex Accusation
There are more details coming out about the 3LW lawsuit — including allegations of pimping one of its members.
Naturi Naughton is suing the other two members of the R&B group, Kiely Williams and Adrienne Bailon, as well its management, which includes two of Williams' sisters, Michelle and Tse. Naughton says she was forced out of the group. Naughton claims she was expected to do more than just sing and dance for the group; she says she was being urged to get into a romantic relationship with a member of the rap group St. Lunatics so the group would ask 3LW to tour with them. Naughton says in her suit she went to a meeting with a member of the St. Lunatics. When she returned, she told the three Williams sisters and Bailon she did not get intimate with the group member. Michelle Williams (news) berated her for not getting her "mack game up," according to the suit. Naughton says she got the impression she needed to use sex or intimacy to get 3LW a place on the Nellyville tour with St. Lunatics, which didn't happen. Naughton says Michelle Williams harassed her more because she failed to "close the deal." Williams and Bailon say Naughton walked out on them. There's been no immediate response to the lawsuit by the defendants in the case. |

P Diddy - - Baby Mama Drama #3?
Well, I don't know if this is all true or not...but it's in British tabloids....
(you can check out a pic of this Alicia chick here...http://www.theladsmag.co.uk/ice/aug02/) ALICIA: I'M PREGNANT AND PUFF'S THE DADDY CELEBRITY man-eater Alicia Douvall is pregnant - after a night of passion with US rap star P Diddy. The posh model with 32EE breasts  told The People how he plied her with exotic cocktails while whispering his "secret sexual fantasies" in her ear. Then the multi-millionaire producer - who found fame as Puff Daddy - made "amazing" love to her over a mixing desk at his recording studio. Days later, former public schoolgirl Alicia left a shock message on P Diddy's mobile phone telling him he was going to be a dad. And last night she told The People how she hoped rap music's bad boy would now MARRY her. She said: "There's no way it could be anyone else but Puffy's baby and I know he'll make a great father to our child. "I've tried to reach him to tell him the good news but have only been able to leave a message on his mobile." Alicia - who has bedded a string of celebrities including singer Mick Hucknall, footballer Dwight Yorke and pop guru Simon Cowel - met up with P Diddy during his mammoth week-long 32nd birthday celebrations in London last month. After sipping cocktails in the trendy Buddha Bar, they headed for the members-only Mayfair club in the West End. Alicia said: "Puffy confessed that big boobs were his biggest turn-on. "Then he really turned me on whispering what he wanted to do to me as we were in each others' arms - so to hot things up I told him of my huge sexual apetite and how I love to have sex all night! "I could tell he was really turned on by my fantasy of having champagne poured over every inch of my body - and him LICKING it off. "It got very heated as we made each other wild by talking about sex. He had a thing about water and I suggested making love in the shower. "We had an amazing night making love. The strange thing was, I never thought I'd end up pregnant. I was so drunk and carried away by the fact I was with P Diddy that I didn't even consider contraception. "He really flattered me saying that he was the lucky one to be with me and that I was the beautiful, special one." Alicia already has a six-year-old daughter Georgia, from a previous relationship. She lives with her grandparents at their large house in Surrey and Alicia visits every week. "Since I found out on Friday I am pregnant I can't stop thinking about being a mum again," said Alicia. "I keep looking at babies in prams and thinking what our child will look like. He or she will be gorgeous. I'll be a great mum and I hope Puffy will want to be as involved as possible." P Diddy - real name Sean Combs - was unavailable for comment last night when Alicia's claims were put to his spokesman. |

I saw a picture of Ms. Douvall. The girl is gross, and I hope this is proven false. Because if it's true, Sean Combs is one stupid a** who thinks with his c***, not his brain.

JENNIFER LOPEZ will be crowned the "Most Influential Artist Of The Year" tonight at the VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards in New York City.   The show will be broadcast live at 9 P.M. from Radio City Music Hall. J. Lo's ex, P. DIDDY, will be among the stars attending along with EVE, LL COOL J, TYRA BANKS, VENUS & SERENA WILLIAMS, and OPRAH WINFREY. Jennifer will release her third album called "This Is Me…Then" on November 26th, and her next movie "Made In Manhattan" will open just in time for Christmas.
According to New York Post gossip writer Cindy Adams, Jennifer Lopez didn't like standing next to Alicia Keys for the all-star cover of Vanity Fair's new music issue. We don't know what the beef is supposed to be, but rumor has it that J.Lo has no love for the Grammy-winning Keys. Get ready for "Barbershop" part two! MGM studios has signed producers Robert Teitel and George Tillman Jr. and director Tim Story to create a sequel to the hit hair-cutting comedy. MGM is still in talks with Ice Cube. It's no surprise that MGM wants to do a "Barbershop 2." The original movie only cost $12 million to produced and it has generated $65 million in ticket sales! "Barbershop" was one of the few bona fide hits for MGM this year. Last week (maybe even longer ago) Snoop Dogg announced that he'd stopped smoking weed. Now it looks like the Doggfather might have stopped drinking as well! When the management of the NV club in New York's SoHo district heard that Snoop was going to be rollin' through the other night, they went out and bought a bunch Veuve Clicquot, which is one of the rapper's preferred libations. But when Snoop got to the club he ordered… water! A lot of recording stars can't wait to get into the movies. But rap star Cam'ron isn't really trippin' off Hollywood. Cam has a role in the movie "Paid In Full" (which opens next Friday, October 25) but he's not breaking his neck to find another role: "I'm not going to sit here and take a part that I'm don't feel comfortable doing, you know what I mean, 'cause I love to do music regardless, you know what I mean? I got a long career getting ready to come ahead of me in music, but if a movie comes along and I feel comfortable with the character, then sure I'll do it, but I'm not going chasing it. I'm not going chasing any parts or anything." *EDITED TO ADD .... I just heard on the radio that Kelly (Destiny's Child) and Nas are an item. Ok, who cares about that, right? But that news reminded me that I meant to post this a while ago, but did anyone else see in the latest Ebony that Tweet is supposed to be dating Maxwell?!? See, to me, that's the most unlikely couple ever. |
