Not just knocked around... try 49-3 when they visited OU:D

Shut down Wallace and it's just another ISU team.

With Miami's performance vs Rutgers (RUTGERS!) I know they'll be losing a few of those first place votes to Oklahoma. Hell.. who knows they deserve to lose all of them.. Oklahoma (as usual) pulled of the W against Colorado. A good game by Colorado but Chris Brown (formerly a Heisman candidate) was shut down completely and actually lost a fumble or two.

Both teams played very well though. After Colorado's play I'd expect Oklahoma will have to face them in a rematch for the Big 12 Championship.

My Poor Huskers...

Got back from one of the most up and down games I've ever been to.

The game is 20-17 when Texas scores a touchdown with about 3 minutes to go. So it's 27-17, Texas kicks it short for some reason. We score in like 40 seconds and it's 24-27.
Texas gets a good return on the kickoff, and we get them to 3rd and 7...Roy Williams catches his 14th pass for the first down, and then like 30 seconds after the play is called dead, a flag comes in and the call is offensive pass interference. So it becomes 3rd and 22, which Texas runs the ball to kill the clock. They have to punt to DeJuan Groce who has returned like 4 punts for touchdowns this year, and is leading the NCAA in average return yardage.
The students always chant his name for each punt.

That one sequence right there was huge emotionally, b/c of the disappointment on the first down, to the penalty...

They punt to Groce, and he returns it to the Texas 16 with like 36 seconds or something. The place goes F***ing nuts...absolute pandomonium. I jumped between 4 different rows...It was the most electric atmoshpere I've ever been in. Incredible.

Nebraska runs one option play to the short side of the field for no gain and with like 16 seconds, it is fairly obvious that we should take one shot at the end zone and then kick the field goal to tie. Well, you would think that you wouldn't make the throw unless the guy was wide open...you'd just throw it away if it wasn't there. Well Jammal Lord throws into DOUBLE COVERAGE and it gets picked off at the one yard line!!! Everyone just stood in disbelief...with ten seconds left it was done and it was weird to have the energy of 30 seconds before just sucked out of you.

Anyways, we had every opportunity to win this game, including some missed field goals and turnovers on downs. I certainly hope that we don't lose the confidence we had coming in, b/c we really did outplay Texas (not that they played poorly - Chris Sims had something like 420 passing yards, and Roy Williams had 13 catches).

Kevin 11-03-2002 01:57 AM

I watched... A hardfought game on both sides. Congratulations to the horns. Again they win by 3 points..

Scott - You're smarter than this - Illinois got worked in the Sugar Bowl, but it was a freaking HOME GAME for LSU, and LSU was dropped into that game (although they should have been higher) due to crowd issues. It was a complete mismatch, all the way.

Iowa beat the crap out of ISU in the first half, then some injuries helped Seneca Wallace along - the most prominent was SS Bob Sanders going down, allowing Wallace to throw over the middle w/ no reprocussion, and Freddy Russell getting injured, killing the Iowa running game. It wasn't "domination" by ISU - it was a second half marred by injuries, and Wallace going nuts. See today's game for another example - he had 492 total yards. He doesn't suck as much as I'd wish (although I hate him).

I won't disagree - but both teams beat WSU IMO. I honestly think OSU is the best team in the Big 10, but I would rather have Iowa locked into the Rose Bowl, b/c the Pac-10 opponent will be of lower caliber than the respective opponent in the Sugar Bowl (most likely UGA) . . .

Either way, I'll be at a bowl game again this year - that's fantastic, no matter what.

The Coach's poll just came out.. The Big 12 South still dominant:D

Oklahoma picked up 7 more of Miami's 1st place votes after Miami nearly lost at Rutgers... Should have been more but I expect the AP poll to be a lot more dramatic.

Thrillhouse 11-03-2002 12:07 PM

Rob, I would rather see Iowa in the rose bowl, because who cares about that game, and Ohio St in the only bowl game that matters this year (fiesta). But Wazzou is a good team and they are no Michigan or Wisconsin.

Is the rule in place where if Ohio St is #2, than they bypass the rose bowl for the title game? I sure hope so.

Weekends like this are arguments against a playoff because four unbeatens got run yesterday. Three unbeatens left, four if you count BG:rolleyes: .

KSig RC 11-03-2002 02:41 PM

That's true too - and there's 100% a rule where the Big 10 champ will bypass the Rose Bowl if they get seeded into the BCS title game, which would work out excellent for all parties involved.

chopper816 11-03-2002 04:48 PM

I left the nebraska game with a few minutes left in the fourth, and we went to the house to hang out after the game, anyway, when that passed was picked, i thought one of the guys was ready to go and throw the tv out the window, he was going psycho. im happy i made it out alive, most of the fans i sat around didnt appreciate me yelling hook em horns and dont mess with texas all game, along with other chants.

Anyone check out the new BCS rankings?

1. OU
2. OSU
3. Miami
4. Texas
5. Wash. state
6. Georgia
7. ND
8. IOWA
9. USC
10. VT

there's a very small computer average difference between OSU(2.33) and Miami(2.67) and Miami has a much stronger schedule here on out while OSU really only has Michigan. For some reason ND has a #3 ranking even though they lost to an unranked team and USC has 2 losses and has a #3 ranking (probably b/c their strength of schedule is #1)

Who does everyone pick for the big bowls - Fiesta, Rose, Orange & Sugar?

I watched the Nebraska game on and off until I saw Herian catch that pass in the 4th quarter and I was glued to my TV. Emotional rollercoaster is the best way to describe it...and I was only watching on TV! Even though we lost, this game gave me so much more confidence. This weekend will be much better with Kansas, plus it's homecoming!

My Northwest Missouri State Bearcats are 9-0 and currently rated #4 in D-2. The sad thing is that since I'm so used to Nebraska football and how huge it is, I've found that with the exception of our stomping of Pitt State KS at Arrowhead a couple weeks ago (;) :p Earp...are you over that one yet?) it's really hard to get into Bearcat football. It's fun and all, but not nearly at the same level as Nebraska football (even if they're losing). Once a Husker, always a Husker!

Miami has some decent teams left on their schedule.. Tennessee (which is now healthier) Pittsburgh has been good recently, Va Tech... One problem still remains. It's STILL THE BIG EAST. Their only true test will be in their bowl game against Oklahoma.

And Oklahoma will win :D

In Honor of wasted seasons

For the love of all that's holy!!!

We start a true freshman quarterback and beat the number 1 team in the country....but in that same season we have to suffer losses to ITexasTech, Okie State and a less than par Nebraska????

As i drank in celebration saturday night, it was tempered a bit by the fact that we had the potential this year to actually contend for a Big XII title, now we're just left to play the role of spoiler to Texas. It's freakin frustrating.

I really hope that this has no influence on RC keeping his job. Regardless if we win out and upset t.u. in Austin, (which i'm not holding my breath for) he needs to be held accountable for the early season failures.

I'm glad the Ags won, but i see this as more of an indicator of where we SHOULD be, rather than where we are.

Has A&M faced Texas yet? The way they played on Sunday they should be able to demolish Texas (which in my humble opinion is the most overrated team in football [next to the Buckeyes]).

Being an OU fan I'm pissed things turned out the way they did but you have to give it up for the Aggies. Hell of a game!

Losing by 4 points AT Kyle Field is a lot more respectable than losing by 14 in a neutral field.

It's pretty simple in my mind - teams that don't lose get ranked higher than those who do. Ohio State beat the Wisconsins of the world (this year's Big 10 equivalent of A&M) - fair or not, that's how the polls work . . . I do think OU should be ranked higher than Texas though, the bias against losing late (rather than in the first couple games) sucks.

Either way, tough loss for OU, they're a better team than they showed this weekend. That's why college football is fantastic - home field and momentum can make up for a lot of talent differential.

Agreed and agreed. I saw the AP poll had them tied for 4th.. It'll tighten up as the season moves on.. And if both teams finish the conference with only 1 loss OU gets the title game because they beat Texas. If TX stays ahead in the polls though they may end up seeing Miami or someone in the Fiesta (which would be messed up)

wreckingcrew 11-11-2002 04:06 AM

ktsnake-

A&M plays t.u. the last game of the year, the day after Thanksgiving in Austin. And i agree with you, i think that A&M SHOULD demolish texas, but i fear that we won't, simply because it's a game on the road, and i don't think RC has another big win in him this season.

I'm a realist, i don't expect us to go undefeated every year, but to me there are acceptable losses and unacceptable losses. I can stomach losing to Va Tech, Oklahoma, Nebraska, or, <shudder> even texas occasionally. But to me, A&M should rarely lose to schools like ITTech, Baylor, and Oklahoma State. This stems from the fact that A&M is one of the top public schools in the country, is in the top 5 in enrollment and size, and surely recieves enough money in donations in grants to buy tech outright. My knock on RC is not that he can't win the big game, because he has won big games before, my problem is that he doesn't instill a killer instinct into his teams that cause them to cruise over obviously less talented teams. See Florida, Nebraska of old, FSU ususally, etc.

As far as the talent deficiency between A&M and OU, i really think that the talent levels are rather similar, Stoops is just a much better motivator, is a much better coach, and gets tremendously more out of his athletes than RC. A&M is always at the top of Big XII schools with players in the NFL, you just would think we could parlay that into a little more success while they're here.

Kevin 11-11-2002 10:43 AM

I agree Aggie. That true freshman QB A&M had in there was incredible. Fooling guys like Brandon Everage (FS #7) is NOT easily done but he did it VERY well.

Hopefully Stoops can get Oklahoma fired up for the remaining games where they *should* run the table versus OU, OSU and Baylor.

Kevin 11-11-2002 10:57 AM

As for Slocum...

They should 'promote' the man to AD. I'd feel bad for him if they just canned him after 14 years. He's been a good coach for A&M.

My message to the Aggies, "Thank you, thank you, thank you."

I'd sing your little fight song or whatever it is, but its about UT, (BTW, do ya'll sing that when you play Baylor or whatever? Got to be pretty wierd to be playing Nebraska but singing down with UT.)

It's actually not a fight song, it's a War Hymn :D

And it's never weird to sing down to y'all. We're proud everyday to be the antithesis of what y'all are ;)

That being said, your welcome for the win. But i think we're stroking your egos for just a tad more until we burst your bubble T+1.

As far as RC is concerned, i don't think he'll be canned this year, as by the time we get a new AD hired, it'll be too late in the game and could seriously affect recruting. However, next season RC is staring at away games that include AT Va Tech, AT ITexasTech, AT Nebraska, AT Oklahoma. Unless he vastly changes his approach and we win those games, i anticipate him to be reassigned in the athletic department by next CHRISTMAS.

The Definitive answer...

This makes perfect sense to me...In a really perverted way...

BCS, College Football on
Verge of Complete Disaster

By NORMAN CHAD
AOL Exclusive

This is the time of season in which the BCS reaches a boiling point. And if either Miami (Fla.) or Ohio State loses before the end of the year -- a virtual certainty, my friends -- well, then, the BCS will boil over.

For we will have about 125 college football teams with one defeat, and even if America happens to be at war against Iraq, the BCS brouhaha will overshadow any Baghdad bombs.

Naturally, the whole thing will be decided by a computer.

Before we go any further, let's go over The Big Picture one more time, with feeling:

Should there be a national championship playoff format in college football? Yes.

Do we absolutely need a national championship playoff format in college football? No. (What we absolutely need is health care reform. And shorter lines at the post office.)

Also, before we go any further, please remember:

The BCS is pretty much just BS with a middle initial.

Anyway, absent of a playoff system -- which, incidentally, would not end all the current arguing and shouting, it would simply redirect the arguing and shouting to who's in and who's out -- we are left with the wonder and rapture that is the Bowl Championship Series.

The BCS rankings, as many of you sadly know, are a compilation of the average of the coaches poll and the Associated Press media poll, the average of seven computer evaluations, plus factoring in the variables of strength of schedule, quality victories and total number of defeats.

In other words, it would be easier to chart Drew Barrymore's relationship arcs than it would be to dissect the BCS formula.

The first BCS problem here are the human elements -- who can trust coaches or sportswriters?

Coaches have built-in biases, plus they don't watch too many games.

Sportswriters also have built-in biases, plus they're generally eating while watching too many games.

So when either group tries to tell me which are the nation's top teams, I'm inclined to tune these folks out and tune in to 'Father Knows Best' on Nick at Nite.

(This would be as good a time as any to address the angry e-mails I've received about AOL's own college football ranking, the mysterious and maligned Couch Slouch Eight. Some of the irate mob are missing the point. First and foremost, I'm just trying to have fun. Secondly, I'm just trying to show people that no one can really know who No. 1 or No. 2 or No. 22 is -- we're talking about teams in different parts of a very large country, facing vastly dissimilar schedules and usually not playing each other. It's like trying to decide if Catherine Deneuve or Catherine Zeta-Jones is a better actress -- well, maybe that's a bad example -- or if the Big Mac or the Whopper is a better burger. We all have varying tastes and opinions, and unless the teams or actresses or burgers in question meet in a postseason playoff -- preferably at a neutral field, screen or grill -- it's all conjecture and hot air.)

The second BCS problem here is the inhuman elements -- who can trust a computer, or don't you all remember the HAL 9000 in '2001: A Space Odyssey'?

Jeff Sagarin, my butt.

(These computer programmers are largely rumpled madmen sitting in the basement of their parents' home, alternating between reading data printouts and spitting out sunflower seeds.)

If we went by computer, the New York Mets would never get a chance to win the 1969 World Series and the Baltimore Ravens would never make it to Super Bowl XXXV. If we went by computer, the incomparable Steve Buscemi would be working as a street mime outside a Tallahassee, Fla., dinner theater.

Computers are good for two things -- Tetris and Minesweeper.

I would trust the bastard child of a personal injury lawyer and an insurance claims adjuster before I'd trust a computer.

(Computers? Computers? Please. I'll tell you how unreliable they are: A computer dating service led to my first marriage.)

Besides, on any given day a computer could have a virus, and the next thing you know, Cornell is ranked No. 3 in the nation.

So when Ohio State loses to Michigan this Saturday, or when Miami loses to Pittsburgh, Syracuse or Virginia Tech sometime soon, the nation will turn to Gateway and Dell, and, believe you me, somebody's computer server is going to crash trying to figure out the Bowl Chaos Series possibilities.

Me? I don't need a computer. I have a microwave and a blender -- and the firm belief that Duquesne is No. 1.

The Couch Slouch Eight

With Montana becoming the third consecutive No. 1 team in the Couch Slouch Eight to tumble from the unbeaten ranks, the inevitable finally transpired -- Duquesne now occupies the top spot. Are the Dukes Fiesta Bowl-bound? Of course not. More likely, they will be headed for the ECAC Bowl, despite recording four shutouts this season and outscoring their final five opponents 237-17.

Congratulations to running back Ian Smart of No. 4 C.W. Post, who scored four times in the Pioneers' 35-16 victory over Pace to set an NCAA career all-division record with 94 touchdowns.

Miami (Fla.) remains in its entrenched No. 8 position, after several lackluster practices during its bye week.

This week's Couch Slouch Eight:
1. Duquesne (11-0)
2. Dayton (10-1)
3. Ohio State (12-0)
4. C.W. Post (11-0)
5. Boise State (10-1)
6. Rutgers (1-9)
7. Miami (Ohio) (7-4)
8. Miami (Fla.) (9-0)

Others receiving votes: Maryland, Culinary Institute of America, McDonald's Hamburger University.

Heisman Watch

Our Heisman Trophy favorite, Hawaii's Timmy Chang, completed 35 of 64 passes for 369 yards as the Warriors won at Rice, 33-28. Chang had to shake off jet lag, the time-zone change and "mainland malaise," not to mention it was windy and chilly in Houston, plus, let me tell you, I've never done a good day's work myself in that God-forsaken city, so it was a steady, if unspectacular, Saturday for the sophomore sensation.

Meanwhile, our Heisman Trophy co-favorite, San Diego State's Adam Hall, was carted off the field with a concussion in the second quarter of the Aztecs'
49-21 loss to Colorado State, the victim of a facemask by linebacker Drew Wood. Hall had completed 11 of 15 passes for 120 yards and probably was en route to another 500-yard day. For the season, he has completed 272 of 452 passes for 3,253 yards and 17 touchdowns. "And the Heisman goes to Adam Hall!" Boy, that's got a good ring to it.

The BCS is one crazy system - but for the most part, it works (sometimes ;) )

On another note, my Hawkeyes are #7 and in the Clubhouse with no where to go but up. We get to kick back and watch some football for the next couple of weeks :D

Anyone see news footage of Iowa fans taking down the goal post at Minnesota? Yea, I know some of those people - CRAZY!
