While we're at it...

I just want to tell Erin S that she makes me feel really great because she will PM me now and then and will just see how I am doing. I love that. Erin S. ROCKS!

gcsmith 10-07-2005 02:35 PM

hey

I think that Arin T rocks!! THanks for keeping me posted on the collegiate front. YOu know that I will ALWAYS be in your face asking questions when Recruitment starts in January!!!

Yesterday, the Hawai`i alums held our annual Alpha Gam Always at the beautiful Kahala home of Leah Davis Rowland -- a "1930ish" Westminster College initiate.

I hadn't realized how much I was missing out on when I skipped out on alum events just because I had to work. I missed so many wine bottlings, winetastings, Color me Mines, etc.

It's always a blast to hear our "Slightly Older Sisters" talk about Alpha Gam "in their day". Seeing them talk about the looseness of this generation was also hilarious -- apparently they just saw the new Cameron Diaz movie.

I can't wait till the next event!

I love Connie YB!!:D :D

It's wonderful to know that your president listens to you and can present your chapter's views when the NPC prez's get together!

Went to a GPhi/Atl Alumnae Chapter dessert night last night. Hooked up with a GPhi alumnae that I haven't seen since about 1987 when I took over being Corresp. Sec. from her.

Her dau is now our sister.....and the sister mother of another Phi alumna's daughter!!

:D

Gamma Tau Welcomes 23 New Sisters!

Yea...got home before midnight, lol.

AGDLynn 01-20-2006 10:12 PM

Where are the other post-ers?

Was over at the hall tonight, waiting on an officer to come for training (she never showed up).

Anyway while I was waiting, I looked in a bound book of old Quarterlys, specifically 1970-72.

I was able to read about Gamma Rho, Gamma Sigma, Gamma Tau (104 YEA!!) and Alpha Omega installations.

There was a lot more articles about specific sisters, events, Alpha Gam man, Kappa Delta Pi (?) back then.

Also.....remember when Neil Armstrong and the other guys were on the moon and they called back, and "Houston" answered "Roger!"....well..I can't remember his name but his mom's an Alpha Gam!;) :D

Kappa Delta Pi as in the education honor society? Not sure if there is another KDP out there.....

Alphagamuga and I met for lunch the other day and talked for 2 hours!

(Actually, we "met" at the post office because she recognized my AGD license plate.)

Afterwards I went to Coldwater Creek to use one of my gift cards. Then to the bank..where I realized that I didn't have my wallet..rushed back to CC and then Mellow Mushroom...where it was on the floor under the table, thank goodnesss!)

UGAalum94 01-01-2007 02:33 AM

Lunch was fun!

I'm glad the wallet was still there, and I hope you got everything you wanted at Coldwater Creek.

Talked with my sister-mother for the 1st time in a couple of years. Before that, it was a couple of decades.

Super excited cause she's gonna help us with our reorganizing the House Association!:D

AGDLynn 02-02-2007 07:14 PM

Laurie Upshaw Hale - Chapter Grand

I have never met our sister but I read her obit in today's AJC. She was born in 1910 and initiated into Gamma Alpha Chapter in 1930.

AGDLynn 04-12-2007 09:58 PM

A pledge sister that I haven't talked to in about a decade called me tonight and we chatted for about an hour. It's like we never lost touch!

We hope to relocate near where she's living now so that will be cool!

Oh..forgot to mention that she works in a judge's office and knows the husband of a chapter sister...but didn't realize it, lol. He's a probation officer but retiring in a couple of weeks.

It's fun getting reconnected!

AGDLynn 11-09-2007 12:08 AM

Gamma Tau has 15 new Sisters!

:D
Yea!

I am very proud to call her my sister.

AGDee 03-26-2008 07:51 PM

I got this in an email today and it reminded me of all of my Alpha Gam sisters:

Time passes.
Life happens.
Distance separates
Children grow up.
Jobs come and go.
Love waxes and wanes.
Men don't do what they're supposed to do.
Hearts break.
Parents die
Colleagues forget favors.
Careers end.
BUT - Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how many miles
are between you. A girlfriend is never farther away than needing her.
When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you have to walk it by
yourself, the women in your life will be on the valley's rim, cheering
you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf,
and waiting with open arms at the valley's end.
Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you, or
come in and carry you out.
Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters, daughters-in-law, sisters,
sisters-in-law, mothers, grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins and
extended family all bless our life.
When we began this adventure called womanhood, we had no idea of the
incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead, nor did we know how much we
would need each other.
Every day, we need each other still.

AGDLynn 05-20-2008 11:33 PM

Tonight at dinner, there were (if I remember correctly),
2 GTaus
2 GAs
2 Mus (okay, there were 5 but 3 got there late and had to sit somewhere else)
2 TIs
1 Sigma
1GPhi
:D

Talking about going to the Laser Show in June.

AGDLynn 08-18-2008 11:20 PM

Cool to read in the U of Alabama Panhellenic page for Alpha Gam about Bear Bryant's Alpha Gams in the family.:D

DoctorD 09-02-2008 05:15 PM

became facebook friends with the brother of my Sister-Mom yesterday... and today he sent me her email address prior to me even asking him how she is doing. I haven't talked to her in a few years. We've already emailed each other today.

DoctorD 09-16-2008 10:22 PM

I got an email that one of my pledge sisters died unexpectedly in her sleep Saturday evening. She had 2 small children.

I haven't talked with her in years - we did some things together when we lived in the house near each other, but I lost touch with her after graduation.

Always hits too close to home, though, when it is someone you remember vividly - and I would guess she was 39 or 40.

AGDLynn 09-17-2008 05:43 AM

DD, that's so sad!

It's very hard to understand why things like that happen.

agzg 09-26-2008 05:59 PM

I thought of this thread earlier this week when I signed on to facebook, and the newest member of my tree friended me and posted on my wall.

I've never met her (in fact, I've never me the three youngest members of my tree), but I thought it was so sweet that she was reaching out!

AGDee 05-03-2009 07:21 PM

My daughter was awarded her Girl Scouts Silver Award today at a big banquet and awards ceremony. We had to pick up her folder at the registration table and I noticed that another member of the Western Wayne County Alumnae Club's daughter was also going to be there to get her Silver Award. (Natalie, for those who are familiar with our club). Then I was browsing through the program and saw ANOTHER name that was familiar.. our Treasurer's daughter was ALSO getting her Silver Award. We took a picture of the 3 Alpha Gam moms and our daughters after they'd received their awards. It was very cool. We all knew the others were involved in Girl Scouts too and we talk about Scouts a lot and how much it is like being in a sorority but none of us realized the others were getting their Silvers today too! It was fun :) Inspiring our Daughters, Impacting the World!

greeklawgirl 05-04-2009 03:41 PM

Getting a Silver Award is a big deal! Congratulations to your little one, AGDee! And congratulations to all three legacies! :)

AGDLynn 02-08-2010 10:41 PM

Sad to read in the Q that a Gamma Alpha has passed away. I met Anne and her sister Bonnie when we lived in the GA house one summer.

AGDAlum 03-01-2010 03:18 PM

I read in the E-Quarterly that one of my pledge sisters passed away last fall. We pledged the same day, were initiated together, and sat next to one another in Chapter meetings. We exchanged a couple of Christmas cards over the years, but not consistently. When I was in Kansas City in 2001 I had hopes of getting together for an evening, but it didn't come to pass. I looked up her obituary but it didn't give the cause of death.....Lots of memories!

AGDLynn 03-11-2010 07:14 PM

Very sad to get a FB message that a Gamma Tau was killed yesterday in a car accident. Ironically, it was her birthday. Brooke was initiated 1999. I am not sure but I don't think she was married and/or had children.

I only met her a few times; I think she was a senior or had just graduated when I started advising.

DoctorD 09-25-2011 09:19 PM

Had a housewarming for my new house, and AGDee helped me throw it and AGDLynn came :) - so glad to see both of them!

Thank you, AGDee, for being the catalyst for me getting unpacked!

AGDLynn 10-27-2011 08:13 PM

LOVE that a young alumna from my chapter is moving to North Carolina and that I am connecting her with the AGDs that I actually know up there!

Hope she has a wonderful time with the new group - I told her I was a bit jealous because I am in the mood to move somewhere new.

Surrounded by Sisterhood!

(Yea, I know we've got the newer motto! ;) )

AlwaysSAI 10-27-2011 09:52 PM

^^^I'll add you to our email list, so you can attend our events by-proxy. ;)

I was just thinking about my sis-mom the other day, but didn't call her because I got busy. She called me tonight & we're going to meet for lunch on Sunday!

And, it kind of makes me chuckle that my sister, who was initiated in 2005, is asking me, initiated in 2009, about how to do officer elections in an alumnae chapter and what AGD Always is.

AGDLynn 10-27-2011 11:07 PM

Go, girl!!

agzg 11-17-2014 09:01 PM

How fitting that Lynn was the last (before me, of course) to post in this thread, as I read a lovely article in the quarterly about the Kara necklace tonight. What a beautiful soul.
