some echos

Ok, so I'd like to concur (sp?) with some that have been mentioned already:

Event Horizon (gets my award for most disturbing scene EVER in a movie... when they show that video log... people eating eachother or something... pretty f'ed up)
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (ok so everyone laughs at me for this, but when I was a kid this movie freaked the shit out of me... I mean, kids getting turned into blueberries and getting sucked up chocolate tubes... come on, that's pretty creepy!)
Seven (duh.)
Stigmata (don't really know why... it just creeped me out)
House of 1000 Corpses (most recently, very good movie but so f'ed up. Rob Zombie is the man, even though they made him tone this down a bit, I really can't think of a movie that's more disturbing than this)

On a side not, the Ring was pretty creepy too... was afriad to sleep with my computer monitor right next to my bed that night... I had to put a towel over it... no swampy bitch was comin after me that night...

AXPGoBot 08-13-2003 11:16 AM

forgot

Oh, I forgot, has anyone heard of a movie called CLOSETLAND? It's got the guy who plays Snape in Harry Potter and Lemeditron in Dogma. I've never made ita ll the way through, but everyone always says what a disturbing, psycological movie that is.

moe.ron 08-13-2003 11:20 AM

I still way this without hesitation: Glitter. IT's still scares me to death

I totally agree with that scene.

Also Jeepers Screeper in the basement with all those dead naked people on the wall. Creepy.

Yeah, that movie creeped me out when I was a kid, too. The Ooompa Loompas really get to me.

It is supposed to show you not to be greedy or you'll get what's coming to you
I love that movie
I own the DVD and soundtrack

rhosigmazeta 08-13-2003 01:25 PM

Man, I have so many but the only ones that come to mind are:

Pet Semetary...when that kid Gaige like slices that guys ankle then like bits a hunk out of him...I was so freaked to take a shower after that i had to huddle in the corner...don't ask long story lol

IT...i can not stand clowns and even though i have never seen the whole movie i never will

CatStarESP4 08-13-2003 01:39 PM

Silence of the Lambs
Pet Semetery

I have a friend who is an actor and he appeared in these three disturbing films:
Session Nine (the fact that it took place in an abandoned mental institution could creep anyone out)
Black Hawk Down (he was seen very briefly and the bloodshed)
Boys Don't Cry (some of the scenes were very disturbing)

One movie I remember seeing as a child that really threw me out of wack was "Driving Miss Daisy". Just thinking of it gives me the creeps!

It wasn't the Ooompa Loompas' message that freaked me out, it was the little people with their scary orange faces and green hair and their weird pants and their dead blank eyes...ick!

DeltaSig 08-13-2003 02:05 PM

Love Kubrick have his DVD collection, not really disturbing but very analytical. I'm a huge film buff. The most disturbing film I've ever seen was a movie called "SANTA SANGRE". Came out in the 80's kind of twisted plot about a boy and his deranged mother. The actors are from latin america but are speaking english. So it's not subtitled since their speaking in english but they all have heavy spanish accents. Watch "delicatessen" or "city of lost children" beautiful movies that some people would find strange.

PiKA2001 08-13-2003 02:14 PM

Ohhh, I have a good one!

Dolphingirl14 08-13-2003 03:46 PM

A lot of the movies that disturb me are mentioned. 8mm, Seven, the Shining, The Ring, Requiem of a Dream, Stigmata.

One that scared the $hit out of me when I was a kid was a movie called Cat's Eye. There was this little demon that came out of the wall at night that had me totally terrified and the cat sucked out peoples breath. Also a scene with a pigeon that terrified me, which brings me to another terrifying film

The Birds. I have had a phobia of birds ever since.

Moxie 08-13-2003 04:03 PM

i would say that most david lynch films are disturbing - blue velvet, muholland drive, the elephant man, etc.

kstar 08-13-2003 04:18 PM

I love all the Kubric movies and Stephen King's It.

But man, no movies have ever affected me like "And the Band Played On."

Session 9 and Jeepers Creepers came close.

MeLikey 08-14-2003 01:26 AM

The Life of David Gayle
The Others-- I haven't even seen the whole thing, but the parts I did see freaked me out.

Glitter650 08-14-2003 04:11 AM

Gotta go with Requim for a dream... SERIOUSLY disturbing can deifnitely take off your rose colored glasses REAL fast...

Pumpkin disturbed me too... not AS much as Requim.. but still disturbing.. Let's see here...

Ohh what's that movie called about the reality show where people are trying to kill each other ??? THAT movie was disturbing...

Monster's Ball kinda disturbed me as well... I was just like  through out the whole thing plus.... some of billy bob's prostitute action just kinda got to me.... just a little graphic..

AXPGoBot 08-15-2003 07:46 AM

I just watched Feardotcom last night... that movies was WAY disturbing!

It was disturbing how awful it was and how it made no sense and was just like someone saw the Ring and wanted to do a cheesy rip-off. It was disturbing how such an awful movie can get made and distributed. Most of all, it was disturbing how I actually shelled out about $3.50 to rent it.

That movie was Series 7. And yes it was pretty freaky, because it looked so real

fingerbang 08-16-2003 12:19 AM

2 words muhlholland drive..........it will change the way you see movies its the strangest most disturbing movie i have ever seen. i had to look on the internet to figure out what the hell was going on

KillarneyRose 08-16-2003 01:00 AM

In the course of the past week I have been subjected to several movies that featured the height of 80's-ness: Staying Alive (sequal to Saturday Night Fever), Perfect and Wall Street. It disturbs me that when I saw these movies in the theater I thought they were really, really cool (and I was really, really skinny and young :( )

MareImbrium 08-16-2003 03:52 AM

Off the top of my head, I can only think of Fight Club.

The Ring is a cheesy rip off, the original was a Japanese film called Ringu, it's available in the US with subtitles. It is creepier and better explained.

decadence 08-16-2003 09:05 AM

Agreed, it's [imaginatively titled] sequel Ring 2 (aka erm Ringu 2 I guess) is also surprisingly good. Much to make you jump in it :).I heard there was a Ringu 3 but can't confirm.

Virtual Violet 08-16-2003 09:59 AM

"Blue Velvet" was just plain weird!

Lady Pi Phi 08-16-2003 11:44 AM

I would have to say was one of the most disturbing films I've seen. It was also very disgusting. I could never understand how kids could behave in that manner.

I've also seen Sophie's Choice. For me it was very sad, but I can honestly say I was not that disturbed by the choice she faced. I don't want anyone one to think I'm a cold-hearted B****, but it just didn't affect me the same way my mother told me it affected her. She will never ever watch that movie again. I think it's because I am not a mother that I don't truely understand the situation that she was placed in. Perhaps if I watch it again as a mother I will have a different reaction.

cougarchic 08-16-2003 01:34 PM

House Of 1000 Corpses by Rob Zombie was sick. He has problems.

AGREE!!! The Virgin Suicides was the most disturbing movie that I have ever seen. I mean what were they thinking when they came up with that. How depressing.

I must give it to my friend who got me with that one though. Since I hadnt heard of it, she was hyping it up talking about how good it was and all I could do while I was watching it was   .

She was laughing sooooooo hard. It was cool though, but I never wanna see that again.

sugar and spice 08-16-2003 09:39 PM

The Virgin Suicides was a book before it was a movie, actually. I think it might have been one of those stories that worked well as a book but was too disturbing to put into a more visual form.

For the record, I hated the book but I know a lot of people who loved it.

Crazy stuff there, especially when he's naked and running around with the chainsaw.

I was waiting for someone to mention this movie. I was in shock for weeks after watching it. THIS MOVIE WAS SICK AND PURPOSELESS.

Also, I love American History X, but the scene with the curb made me sick. Literally.

MeLikey 08-17-2003 07:04 PM

Ha, yeah I watched American Psycho with this guy I liked at the time... he really likes the movie... I wasn't really paying that much attention to the movie because I was a little nervous since I liked this guy... but from what I saw I totally didn't understand it-- it was really weird.

I don't know what's more disturbing, the movie or someone who loves it. I would RUN from any man who likes that movie.

There was a lot in the book that didn't make it into the movie. The girls are more differentiated and in the movie they're all basically ciphers except for Kirsten Dunst.

I also think that you have to be over a certain age (LOL) to really get certain things in the book...I know that there were parts that I was like "oh wow!" but that if you are too young to remember it, it might not have the same resonance.

The all time shittiest book-to-movie translation though, has to be Endless Love. The book is a masterpiece, and the movie....well, Brooke Shields was the star. Need I say more?

Rudey 08-17-2003 11:44 PM

Any Ernest movie.

-Rudey
--I used to like them too.

MareImbrium 08-18-2003 03:15 AM

Yes there is a Ringu 3. It's supposed to be a trilogy. I wonder how much anyone can make a continuation of that when the people who've seen already know what it's really about. The Ring scared the living daylights out of me! A movie that comes close to the level I was freaked out has to be The Shining. I still get chills.

Arlington Road...yes it was very disturbing but I loved it too! So many twists and turns and the ending...oh my goodness. I always wanted to know how it all turned out the way it did but I guess it's one of those things no one ever asks. You just have to take it at face value that things just happened the way it did.

I loved Vanilla Sky. It's one of those thinking movies filled with intensity. Same with Dark City if anyone ever saw that one.

I just saw Stephen King's Storm of the Century and the ending was really disturbing...well not really the entire ending but at the last half hour or so. The movie reminded me a lot of the short story The Lottery by Shirley Jackson.

MareImbrium 08-18-2003 03:23 AM

I forgot to add Once Were Warriors and Better Luck Tomorrow.

White_Chocolate 08-19-2003 09:35 AM

pretty woman is disturbing
somewhere out there, there's a hooker turning tricks
and hoping that she'll end up like 'julia roberts and the prince charming at the end'

That reminds me of an old Mad magazine parody of Grease. At the end Sandy says "In order to get the man you love...you have to be a slut! What a wonderful message for the youth of America!"

Pretty Woman was originally called $3000 and had a much darker ending, but got Disneyfied. Bleah.

That is a movie as well. It's only about 30mins long but I watched it in high school and was in a daze for the rest of the day. I was blown away.

My list:
The Ring- I was in a brightly lit room w/ people walking in and out and talking while I watched this and it still freaked me out. Visually, that was an AMAZING film. The images from the "movie" are haunting. Specifically the woman combing her hair in the mirror. That one always pops into my head for some reason, and I freak out.
Apocalypse Now
A Clockwork Orange
Silence of the Lambs
Dancer In The Dark- I cried, the end is so messed up it's disturbing.
The Craft-I guess because my name is Sarah and I had a friend named Nancy that creeped me out...
Swing Kids- About the Hitler Youth. Before I watched it, I'd had no idea any of that existed.

33girl 08-20-2003 12:25 AM

I thought of another one due to the TCM Gregory Peck marathon - On the Beach. It's about nuclear war. There's nothing graphic in it at all, but man, does it mess with your brain, especially the last scene. Do not watch it alone in the dark before going to bed.
