BTW, do we know for sure that the Pledge House is gone after the series ends? I'd be curious whether or not the Pledge House was part of the contract with MTV and that Sigma retained ownership after the show. Christin |

IMHO, the first episode came pretty close to being a decent
documentary about sorority rush. The scenes where Leah, Leslie, and Pauli were debating how doing rush with the cameras there was going to affect the chapter were really quite good and reminded me of debates that took place in my chapter during rush. Even putting the issue of the Pledge House aside, any documentary about pledges isn't going to be as interesting as focusing on the actives because they are the sorority, not the pledges, duh... However all indications are that the series will slowly go downhill from here. There are not going to be any real hardcore conflicts (i.e., Puck on the old Real World or the infamous "Slap Episode"), so why bother? It's too realistic for cheap thrills and to artificial to be an interesting depiction of it's subject matter. It just occupies a middle ground where nothing really interesting happens. |
Jordan's complete lack of respect of the rules really pissed me off. Just about everyone living in a sorority house has to abide by similar rules. No alcohol, no boys, etc. What the hell did these girls expect?! For the Sigma's to hand them their letters and the keys to the pledge house and say have at it??
And for all of you fans of Jessica, what about when Candace and Jordan asked if they were invited to that party thing she was going to. She didn't even bother to answer them! That was seriously the rudest thing I have ever heard in my life! She's not making an effort to be friends with them either! Okay MTV what the hell happened to Dede! She's never on the show anymore! Someone said that Candace and Jordan don't end up initiating, well gee that's a surprise! Not! Those girls are so transparent, they just want to have their pretty vapid faces on TV. Besides Sigma must have known that people were going to drop after the cameras were gone. I went to the Sigma AEPi website and it has all of their pledge classes since their founding and this most recent pledge class is by far the largest they've ever had. Clearly a lot of girls came out because of MTV. One last thing (Sorry I know I'm rambling), the website with all of the pictures is almost like cheating. We can see who's still in the chapter up until a certain date, we can see that Jordan didn't take that Justin dude to her formal so we assume that they aren't together anymore. And one little observation of my own. Jessica is with another pledge named Jessica in a great deal of the pictures and so I'm guessing that she hangs out with her a lot rather than the other pledge house girls. Anyone have some other guesses....hehe, this is fun! |
Ok, this opinion is totally based on my experiences with my school, Panhellenic, and the GLOs on my campus....to me it seems that candace and jordan's behaviors could have gotten them in trouble before...i wondered if they rushed NPC and didn't get in or got depledged before they joined sigma.

Well, if the series is going to go downhill and get more boring, that can only be good. If fewer potential rushees are watching, that's fewer notions to overcome come rush time!

sorority life = all girl real world
Episode 3 was boring to me.
If I wanted to watch The Real World, I'd tune in. But I want to see more about Sorority Life. |
Did anyone tape the first episode?
Hey did anyone tape the first episode? I want to use it as an example at my Rush retreat.. There's a lot of great examples of how NOT to act.

I agree totally with this being the Jordan and Candace show. It would be much more interesting if they showed the actives lives and other pledges (or at least the rest of the pledge house) more often. I must say though that things could be worse and I'm not too terribly mad that it's a little on the boring side. Just think how mad we'd be if they were ALL out of control and totally misrepresenting what sorority life is all about!

I understand why this sorority was picked by MTV, given that they didn't have any constraints from a National HQ, but I wish we could see more of the actual sorority activities. They may be different than more established NPC groups, but I have to think a lot of the important things--sisterly bonding, forming life-long friendships, learning how to live and work well with others--are similar? |
