one day during our process the room we usually had our meetings in was reserved. being resourceful, i offered use of my dorm room for the day. well....at a very solemn, quiet point in the meeting we noticed a loud moaning coming from the room above us. sure enough, as we stayed quiet, we realized that there was a couple above us having very...vocal sex. we all laughed our asses off, even though we got fussed for it. i mean, how can you just stand there listening and NOT laugh after awhile?

YES (and that's to a very general "we", I'm guessing we could all use it)

One year, we had ours in a hotel banquet room which had one of thos retractable walls and it was on a sunday morning. Next to the room was a very loud church service with gospel singers with tambourines and all. It's hard to keep a straight face when all you can hear in the background are gospel songs and the occasional "praise jesus". The best part of the day was after the new members were finished being initiated, one of them asked if the gospel singers were part of the ceremony -- and she was serious.

There was one sister in my collegiate chapter who passed out during every Initiation she attended, excluding her own, fortunately. After we all got over the shock of the first time it happened, it almost became a running (albeit, slightly twisted) joke.

Also, during one Initiation my chapter was visited by a fairly high up national officer, and we were on strict orders from the chapter president to be on our best behavior (stifling the usual giggles, etc)...which was really really difficult considering the national officer was wearing a very visible BRIGHT PURPLE BRA & UNDERWEAR underneath her Initiation attire.

Well during one part this girl was sooo into the ceremony, she didn't notice a balloon was drifting from the ceiling. BUT I did...:) SO the balloon string brushes against the girl's shoulder, she lets out a yelp and nearly hits the ceiling, I'm about to die laughing during this solemn ceremony I thought I would have to leave. It was so awful, but hilarious from a sister's point of view!

We have this one ceremony where we all were standing in a circle doing our thing the night before initiation, so clearly everything is very serious and not supposed to be amusing at all. Well, the seniors around me were gettin rowdy this year and one of my friends grabs this BIG monstrous stuffed lion from behind her in the circle (we have them laying all around the house) and instructs one of the pledges to ride the lion and starts dancing during the ceremony. Of course I'm about to fall over and the new member didn't know what to do, so she gets on the lion in the MIDDLE OF THE CEREMONY! The three of us (old girls) had to leave the room for a minute and the rest of the chapter didn't know whether to laugh or stay solemn. It was probably one of the most humorous Fireside's that we've ever had and definitely the most memorable with the poor new member riding the lion and everyone else standing around her not knowing how to react.

I have a Phi Mu castle...

I thought I'd read the end of this post only, but had to read some of the beginning to know what it was about. Some of the posts were pretty funny, but when I got to this one I could not stop laughing and just had to resurrect it (originally from 2002). I'm still laughing!!!

Reminds me of a story...

A member of my chapter walked into Initiation obviously not wearing any underwear. It was very distracting to everyone in the ceremony b/c you could see her the whole time. (She was a brunette and this was in the days before brazilian waxes, if you know what I mean...)

I almost spit out my breakfast reading this. My grandmother has some very loud neighbors (although they are not immediately next to her) that have a very loud church where they sing loud on Saturday nights. I got reminded of this when I went to her house earlier this summer.

I can't go into too much detail, but when one of the sisters came to take my pledge class into the initiation room, she was sooo serious! (completely out of character for her). She was in her ritual attire, and we thought that was kinda funny. The whole thing scared us, b/c we weren't expecting it, and we tried so hard not to laugh! I think Alpha Gams will know what I'm talking about.

We had an OPhiA ceremony at an alumna's house one semester. It's a long, emotional ceremony, with everyone sitting in a large circle. After a while, you started to notice sisters along one side moving in, with strange looks on their faces. The circle became very deformed. No one could even pay attention to the ceremony - you wanted to know what was going on over there. They looked like they were going to throw up. Apparently, the alumna's sickly and very old dog had gas and was farting uncontrollably on that side of the room ...

When I joined my late sorority, I wasn't saved.

Giiiiiirl, I made 71$ and scored two condoms. THe girls had their purses in the corna of the room. The room was all dark, I sneaked back there and had myself a field day.

One year, we held our initiation in one of the religious buildings on campus (I don't remember if it was the Baptist Student Union, or the Methodist Center, or what, but you get the picture). We were in a sanctuary of sorts, and there was this big huge cross hanging on the wall. We had set up part of the ceremony to take place just under the cross because it actually seemed appropriate. Well, wouldn't you know, just as we got to that part of the ceremony, the cross FELL OFF THE WALL. It scared the sister under it something fierce! We never held initiation in that room ever again.

Another time, one of the sisters was in a car accident on her way to initiation. She wasn't badly injured, but the windshield had broken, and her face was cut up. Her little sister was being initiated and she told the ER staff that she had to go, and if she felt like she needed more medical attention she'd come back. Well, at one point during the ceremony, a piece of glass became dislodged from her forehead. She brushed the glass away with her hand. Unfortunately, she brushed the glass into her eyeball. She refused to leave until she saw her little go through. She watched the majority of initiation with one eye closed. There are sisters who, to this day, still call her "One-Eye Erin".

Sounds like Fred Hatchett was trying to send you a message.

No passing out yet

I'm a charter member, so I've only seen one initiation (my own). No one passed out in ours, but I've heard it happens pretty frequently. I'm the Marshal (in charge of ritual in Kappa), so I'll make sure we have plenty of fans and glasses of water just in case!

That is almost eerie.

OMG, I had totally forgotten about that! That dog reeked! At first we were all, "Look at the dog, how cute, let's stand over here," and then that dog let loose...

What sorority is this, Daughters of Satan (Theta Sigma in Greek)?:)Just joking!!!!

So Coyote had initiation earlier this week (hooray!), and we had a couple of mishaps...

First, there's a part that...well, let's just say it's in a moderately open location, but at a time you wouldn't expect anyone to be in this particular place. Well, this guy literally just up and walks straight through our ceremony! I mean, you'd think it'd be pretty obvious that it's not something you can just waltz into, and...yeah, pretty disrespectful.

Second, there's a part involving candles, and let's just say that something caught on fire...:D

We've had our far share of dumb things happen but yesterday takes the cake.

We were setting up in the basement for our Big/Little revealing and were just about done when we noticed water dripping out of the ceiling right in the middle of the room. All of a sudden the flow of water increases and water starts gushing out of the ceiling and flooding the floor. We had to grab all of our stuff and run it up stairs and call maintenance. We moved our ceremony upstairs and during the middle, the maintenance people got there to fix the toilet, so we're trying to do our nice serious ceremony and we hear them talking, "yea, it looks like the toilets leaking". Kind of killed the mood.

It was just a good thing it happened before we started the ceremony. The little sisters would have been standing directly under where the leak started. That would have been horrifying for them.
