that was down on yonge st.

Man oh man, sens won 3-0 again, 3 times a charm...poor fliers, i can hear them crying already, and they haven't left the ice yet.

damn if they don't score a goal all series....that's gotta be a record or some s&%*.

I've never seen a team dominate one other so much...as the old saying goes: na na na na, na na na na. wayyyheeeyehhhhh gooooodbyyeeeee

NeonPi 04-25-2002 09:00 AM

Are you kidding?

Gee... don't you just love it when the referees get to decide the game? That penalty shot (TOR vs NYI) was a penalty, but he wasn't even clearly broken away...

Agh .... well, now it's a best of 3 ....

And please let my Mats be okay ... (he got smacked on his left wrist in Game 1, had it taped Game 2, and skated the warnup last night but was scratched..... amazing TOR held on as long as it did with being short 1 forward...)

Gotta love those Habs & Sens, eh? I just love that OTT is wiping that schwarmy smile off of Bobby Clarke's face ....

(And yes, I love those Canucks too!)

:)

Thrillhouse 04-25-2002 09:18 AM

Canucks president complains about officiating. Yeah woe is us the red wings aren't getting any calls, boohoo, check this out. The last paragraph is great:)

From espn.com

Burke said he was prepared to pay a fine for his comments, then added several specific points about the officiating.

"I want to point out to the officials that Todd Bertuzzi does not play for Detroit," Burke said of his power forward, who has been involved in several incidents in front of the Detroit net throughout the series. "It just looks like that because he is wearing two or three red sweaters all the time. I didn't know that tackling was an acceptable tactic; I didn t see it in the rulebook.

"Another point," he added, comparing Vancouver's Daniel Cloutier to Hasek, "our goaltender can be identified by the large pads and mask that he wears. He's also the goaltender on the ice that does not dive when he gets brushed."

LeslieAGD 04-25-2002 10:03 AM

Ex Greek, great article, thanks for making my morning.

Neither team is happy with the officiating in the Wings/Canucks series. Notice though that Burke wasn't complaining after game two when the Cancucks were leading the series. Yes, there have been plays where penalties should have been called on Detroit, AND vice a versa, but how many 5 on 3 opportunities has Vancouver had vs. Detroit...? That's what I thought...Cry on, Burke, cry on.

WingNut 04-25-2002 11:46 AM

power plays

Yeah, in that third game when the Canucks had about five or six minutes of straight power plays in the second period and they only scored on the first one. That's their own fault that they didnt capitalize more, not the refs.

I think this goes under the "it should have never came to whining about officiating" for Detroit. No excuse why a game 5 had to be played tonight. The greatest show on ice should have wrapped this one up already.

And they showed re-plays of hasek diving two nights ago, doesn't hurt to let the refs know.

Had to comment

Sorry, but the comment about Canadians BURNING american flags is BULLSH*T. Total bull. I live in Toronto and have COUNTLESS friends who partied on Yonge Street that night. There was no flag burning. A hell of a lot of beer drinking maybe, but not flag burning.

And I think Americans placing a Canadian flag on the floor of the locker room as 'incentive' to win the game in the Olympics is hardly what I'd call good gamesmenship. I'd LOVE to see what would have happened if was the Canadians who had the American flag on the ground. Anyone remember the accidental upsidedown flag incident??? Maybe the 'rumours' that flags were burned her stemmed from the fact that Candians were peeved(right fully so) about the flag on the floor incident. But I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that we did not burn American flags.

Booing another country's national anthem is just plain rude. ESPECIALLY given the fact that just TWO days prior to the boofest there was that little 'accident' in Afganistan. We'd hope our American friends would be a bit nicer to us given the situation. Granted, I don't think any time is ever appropriate to be booing a nation. I don't think anything justifies that.

I'm sorry for the rant, but it is completely untrue that Candians burned U.S. flags after the gold medal game. Needed to set the records straight....

chscrew144 04-25-2002 06:04 PM

They were

Dude, I saw some burn.... I live like 2 blocks from yonge st and my self have countless friends... they weren;t huge flags but decent sized ones maybe a foot across like the type u can buy outside the ROM so i dunno where you were that night but i was definitely there.

Man, Cloutier pulled in the first!!! Like the announcer said: The Wings are making a mockery out of the Canucks tonight so far.

The question remains, which team booed the other countries anthem first? The game in vancouver vs the red wings or the pistons game.

An account from someone who was there.

Lil_G 04-25-2002 10:15 PM

...back to the topic at hand...
i'm feeling these playoffs are the ugliest in recent years. Not sure what's going on with the other games but in Moreal i saw the dirtiest elbow on Zednik, coming from a no-talent goon in McLaren. He's their best player and will probably miss the series now. If any of the fliers go after ottawa stars if they lose tommorrow night there's gonna be hell to pay -
end communication.

LeslieAGD 04-25-2002 10:21 PM

One word: Gorgeous!!! :D

I was really glad to see Hasek get a shut-out and only a little disappointed that Fedorov didn't get a hat trick. If we continue to play this way on Saturday, it'll be off to St. Louis!

Siobhan 04-26-2002 12:21 PM

Well that sucked - oh well - the Canucks have proven that when they are faced with a do or die situation, they do. Coming down the stretch they HAD to win every game they played to make the playoffs and they did, so I hope they do so again. If they don't, oh well, we did better than last year and they are still an awesome team!

One positive from last night's game though was that finally for the 1st time since I've been following the Canucks (12 years now) we have a good back up goalie - I actually prefer Skudra to Cloutier - and he has the coolest goalie's mask :).

Despite everything, tomorrow is another day...

chscrew144 04-26-2002 10:34 PM

Ottawa wins!

go sens!

Lil_G 04-26-2002 10:37 PM

man oh man, i gotta get some tickets to next round...i went to a playoff game back in the day when alfie got a hat trick vs the devils...it's insane.

Siobhan 04-27-2002 12:34 PM

Awesome - Ottawa wins :)

WingNut 04-27-2002 10:32 PM

WINGS WIN!!! YEAH!!

Star Turtle 04-27-2002 10:42 PM

damn it!!!!

damn it, my devils lost!!!

how in the world? i mean come on!!! ugh - that's what we get i suppose for trading arnott and mckay (i'm still pretty hung up on that)

anyway ~ my hockey season is over now ~ g*luck to anyone else's teams!

LeslieAGD 04-27-2002 10:57 PM

Yeah Wings! :D The Hull hat trick was a wonderful end to that series!

I don't really have a preference as to playing St. Louis or LA...I certainly don't want Colorado to win, but the time difference to LA stinks. Oh well, I guess we're used to it after playing Vancouver and it would be nice to pay LA back for last year.

The commentators said that the last time Scotty Bowman had a team come back and win from a 2-0 deficit, they won the cup (Pittsburg, '92). Hopefully that's a good omen.

WingNut 04-27-2002 11:11 PM

I would like to see Detroit play LA for a couple reasons. I think it would be better than going up against a goaltender (Johnson) who had many shut outs in the first round and plus Detroit would get to deal out some revenge for last year. I think they would have more of a motivation against LA.

Plus playing LA would be easier than the blues so it would keep people like you on the bandwagon for another year.

WingNut 04-28-2002 01:27 PM

What?!!!

1. Just because I happen to be a fan of a good team does not mean I am a bandwagon fan.

2. A bandwagon fan would no longer be with the wings after their choke last year, I am.

3. Anyone would want their team to play the easier team, not just me. It's common sense.

4. I grew up in Detroit and I take offense to your "people like you" statement. If you cannot act mature on this message board, please go post somewhere else.

Talk hockey or shut-up.

Now to my wishes for the final three second round teams:
Go Kings
Go Habs
Go Leafs

Tom Earp 04-28-2002 01:32 PM

"2. A bandwagon fan would no longer be with the wings after their choke last year, I am."

But they would like the team after their all of their signings during the offseason last year. They've had the cup won since day one and most people have known that.

"3. Anyone would want their team to play the easier team, not just me. It's common sense."

This is mostly true, but there are the group of people that want to see them play LA and than Colorado for revenge, not just because they are the easier team.

"4. I grew up in Detroit and I take offense to your "people like you" statement. If you cannot act mature on this message board, please go post somewhere else. Talk hockey or shut-up."

Immature? I see statements like this all of the time by the same group of people that were cussing out the wings after games 1 and 2 on the wings board. When has a post of mine in here not been about hockey?

As lil g would say, just drink a labatts and watch the damn games.

I pretty much stopped watching hockey anyways and detroit continuing their sucky ways won't help me watch it again. I even made a bet at work that the canucks would beat the wings so vanc. better win.

BTW: If they win the stanley cup it won't change my opinion of the wings, lol

Are you sure you're not just a little bitter that you lost your bet? ;)

Not bitter at all, I did a double or nothing even though I know I will lose that too. Thats all I have to say about the wings, I usually don't talk to the bandwagoner fans here so the same applies to you.

I'm right there with you. I was so disappointed yesterday, mainly because no more Canucks hockey til October, but I was so proud of them. They fought hard to the end and the cheers from the fans was so awesome. They way they were cheering if I didn't know the score of that game I would have thought the Nucks were winning, not about to be eliminated on home ice.

Cannot wait til next season!!

But now my energy must go to Ottawa (most of friends are now cheering for the Habs.)

Go Sens!

Canucks Fans

I was really impressed at how the Canucks fans cheered them off the ice after the game yesterday. The Canucks never stopped, even had me thinking a possible game seven at points. They kept inching their way back into the game. But definitely kudos to the home fans.

yup, wings fans wouldn't do that.
Ottawa will slaughter anyone in the next round, hopefully the leafs.

WingNut 04-28-2002 10:40 PM

You're right Lil g I doubt the fans would cheer them off the ice if they lost.

But if you look at it from the point of view that Detroit is "supposed to" win the cup this year, I could see why they would boo (I'm not saying I agree they should boo them though).
Vancouver on the other hand had nothing to lose in losing to the number one seed, thus the crowd cheered them for doing as well as they did and not giving up.

I disagree, Wings fans would have been angry but I would hope (and believe they would) cheer their team...I mean, two minutes before Vancouver lost, the fans were chucking bottles and pops onto the ice so it's not like they weren't pissed off too.

On a brighter note: Great saves by Ozzie and some high action fighting going on in the late third period of the NYI vs. Toronto game. Yeah Islanders! :)

Thats just the few drunken fans there. Wingnut's last comment brings up a good point. Since Detroit already has the cup won, if they lost don't you think most of their fans would throw stuff on the ice? You can't say all Vancouver fans throw bottles and soda on the ice when it is just a few that do it. All stadiums have those "few" that commit acts like that.

Lil g, sorry for using labatts, you always tell me that you drink camo all the time, my bad. Drink camo and watch the damn games.

First, I never said it was all the fans.

Second, when did the Wings win the cup...did I miss the parade?!? As much as I would love to see my team win, the playoffs aren't over yet. I'm not going to start celebrating until/unless we win the Western Conference Finals.

The wings have had it won the day the signed hasek. Maybe LA can pull off the upset in game 7, that would be interesting. Not having Forsberg in the lineup in game 6 was a huge loss for them.
