Great ideas, aephialum! Okay, how about if I adopt her suggestions and only use non-identifying information to show the track that each girl is taking? Like--"today Amanda cut Topaz and went to Pearl and Diamond for prefs and Heather cut Moonstone and went to Pearl and Emerald"? But not this:"they said that the Secret Agent party at Turquoise really sucked!"

I'm just trying to figure out how I can post anything otherwise--other than what they pledge on the last day!

Is Valadosta near University of West Florida? That is where I will be going for my junior yr of college starting in August!

Even though Valdosta is only 18 miles from the Florida border, the University of West Florida is about 4 to 41/2 hours away. FSU and Florida are the closest universitys.

as cool as

the Carnation watch is, this needs to be bumped to the top....
we are all now into the count.
smiles for your and your girls, Carnation.
:D

33girl 07-23-2002 08:55 PM

carnation~

If there were only 5 sororities there, you could name them after members of N'Sync or the Backstreet Boys.

"she thought the Joey Fatones were dorks, but she really loved the Chris Kirkpatricks!" hee hee. :D

ZTABullwinkle 07-26-2002 12:01 PM

Carnation,
I am somewhat new to Greek Chat and have been swept in to the excitement of your "twins" at Valdosta. Any news yet? Best of luck to the both of them. I bet you can guess who I am pulling for...:D

carnation 07-26-2002 12:10 PM

Gee, ZTABullwinkle, which sorority are you pulling for?;)

The girls just got assigned their permanent dorms and roommates yesterday. Here's the good news: their permanent dorm is the rush dorm so they won't have to move halfway through rush!

So now I'm off to buy comforters and other dorm room supplies. I think we all need tranquilizers at this house, the excitement is running so high! Three moms of PNMs have called me today and I think that the rest of the family would like me to take some heavy drugs and calm down! Yess! Rush is on the way!!!:)

You guys have been such good support!:) :) :)

mmcat 07-26-2002 11:46 PM

yeah carnations...

all of you...
too cool a thread to languish....bumpity bump bump...
:D

dzrose93 07-26-2002 11:50 PM

I can't wait to hear your stories, Carnation!! :D

theta sig agd 07-27-2002 07:34 AM

Hey Carnation!

Is the dorm Patterson again this year!!:)

I can guess why they didnt choose to room with each other, but are they in the same Rho Chi group, or Gamma Chi group? I forget what they call them at Valdosta....

AGDLynn 07-27-2002 09:56 AM

How many kids are still at home?

How many might be going thru Recruitment next year?;) :D

I know that I am getting pumped up being an advisor. I can't imagine how stressed out I'd be having 2 PNMs at once.

Lynn

justamom 07-27-2002 10:16 AM

Carnation, I just thought of something!

Do you realize that by the time you have grandchildren in college, you could have every NPC GLO represented!!! Now THAT's a thought!:D

carnation 07-27-2002 12:08 PM

justamom---Aieeee! Well, if each of the 13 kids has 13 kids, it could happen!

Lynn, I think it is more stressful for me with my girls rushing than when I rushed. This strange, fatalistic calm settled over me then--like, "Whatever happens will happen." With my girls, I dread their getting hurt. I've seen the pain of rushees on GC and at the various schools I've attended when they think ABC is the chapter for them, this is THE match, and then the invitation to prefs doesn't come. The rush gospel around here is "be open to all chapters".

I get a break for next year and then we'll have 1 rushing in each of the next three years:eek: --if we can convince the current HS sophomore to leave the stables long enough!

Today, all the girls are coming home from their camp counseling jobs. Pandemonium will reign for the next week--loads of shopping trips, late night yackfests until their dad shuts them down at midnight, the phone being tied up until ? with friends and fellow PNMs--then the AOPi leaves next weekend for Pre-Rush and the others leave the following weekend. Pray for us!

Carnation,

Your posts about your daughters just makes me more excited for my little sister to get out of HS and on to college! And she's just a freshmen! The 6th grader too. I think they want to go somewhere here in the South near home so I won't be able to help with their Recruitment experienes too much except to cheer for a certain org. of coure. I can just see it during their college application process "SO what if they have the best financial aid package...they don't have Zeta so you can't go there!!!" Our parents will just LOVE me. :D

Best of Luck to your daughters and to you too!!!

sweetie adpi 07-28-2002 01:36 AM

hey carnation, i'm so excited for you and your daughters! this will be the first recruitment i'll get to "experience" on gc, and i'm looking forward to your posts :D good luck to your daughters(not that they need it  ), i'm sure that they will have a great time and their new chapter(s) will be lucky to have them!!!

theta sig agd 08-02-2002 09:15 PM

I just wanted to say a quick last good luck to your girls! We have even more girls signing up for rush as of now! This will be a huge rush this year and everyone is excited!!!

I cant wait to hear your girls preceptions of rush!!!

PS. How old is the next oldest girl...Are we gonna have another thread like this pretty soon???;)

carnation 08-02-2002 11:04 PM

I only get a one-year break from rush and then we'll have one for each of the next 3 years! Aieeee!

Then we have boys rushing for a few years and start up with girls again in ten years. Somebody call me at the nursing home and tell me what they pledge!!

justamom 08-03-2002 08:06 AM

Carnation wrote-Somebody call me at the nursing home and tell me what they pledge!!

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

carnation 08-04-2002 06:47 PM

Well, justamom--it's true!;)

The drama increases....yesterday we took the oldest to her sorority house to move in for pre-rush. The twins were duly impressed with the house, although Valdosta doesn't have them! Then today we did the Big WalMart Shop (the one you do for room supplies).

Please Lord, get us all through this week....and next....

Angels&Arrows 08-04-2002 07:01 PM

Carnation...

I am soooo excited for you and the girls!!!!

We are here for your roller coaster... but I have a feeling it will only be up!!!!

PPL,
Shelly

and DITTO to JAM "ROFLAMO" about the nursing home comment!!!

AOIIAngel 08-04-2002 08:05 PM

I am getting those "about to rush" goosebumps! I am very late in reading all this, but Carnation, congrats on the great start your girls are getting. I was a college cheerleader, so that was making me all teary reading it. Ah, the old days......best of luck to your girls, we all anxiously await the drama to unfold!!!

carnation 08-06-2002 11:38 AM

LOL!!!!! I got out of my car a couple of hours ago at the mall and somebody screamed, "GOOOOOOOO, ZETA!" I turned around and it was this little elderly lady we know--screaming and jumping up and down!

She stopped and said, "Wait. Are the girls with you?" and I told her no, they were at home. She said, "Do you mean to tell me I made an idiot out of myself for no reason right here in front of all these people?" and I had to agree that it kind of looked like it! I assured her that I loved her Greek spirit anyway!:) :) :)

Well, I hope she writes recs for the girls, too! LOL

And I like the idea of using gems as ID for the groups. Just make sure the gem can't be associated with that particular group, for example if you said Diamond I might automatically associate it with ADPi, turquoise with Zeta, etc.

YEAH! That is too funny. Might be me in 50 years! :D

maggieaxid 08-06-2002 12:27 PM

ok, so i totally just got into this thread!

carnation- first off, congrats!! Your girls sound wonderful and I know they will find the right place/places for them! I knew twins that rushed on my hall with me and they decided to keep where they were going a secret from one another and hoped they would end up at the same place...and they did! and they only ran into each other once during the different rounds!

as for id'ing the different groups, i think insted of using gem stones, maybe just stick with the greek alphabet. like "twin one loved alpha and beta, got dropped by delta and dropped gamma"...that way its really vague and will not offend anyone. i don't think.....

Carnation...

This story reminds me.... About 10 years ago, two of my sisters were shopping in New Orleans, it was a Saturday morning. So they ran out in party t-shirts... Out of nowhere, they hear.. Ring ching ching... ring ching ching... Over and over again... It took them a minute, to realize... They turn around and this cute, petite, elderly lady, walking (as quickly as possible) toward them, trying to wave her cane. Turns out she was a LA Alpha Pi Phi... They told that story Sunday night at Chapter meeting... It is so wonderful to see sisters before and after us, carry on the heritage and spirit!!!! LOVE IT... LOVE IT!!!
