Chances are that she is still in a social, or it is just about to end. My daughter texted about 20 minutes ago that there was one more to go and then stopped texting pretty abruptly, so I'm assumng that meant the social was starting.
Looking forward to an update on your daughter's day! Hang in there. |
Oops got confused. Northern mom I was thinking you were the mom of the PNM, but you are the mom of an active right?
|
Yes....this is her first year on the "other side" ;)
|
A friend's daughter is going through recruitment right now at another competitive SEC school, and their bid day is tomorrow, so I feel a little like a PNM Mom again ;-)
|
My daughter is a sophomore this year as well. I'm really anxious to hear how it is going for her on this side of recruitment.
Hope all goes well for your friend's daughter! |
Hi all. My daughter said today was exciting and tiring. She visited 7 houses today and will go to 8 tomorrow. I just got off of the phone with her. She sounded exhausted but very happy with all of the girls she met. She felt like she had great conversations at three houses in particular and liked everyone overall. She was surprised to hear other pi chi groups having different experiences than she did and I reminded her not to listen to that and make her own decisions. The dining hall closed earlier than she realized so she didn't get a proper dinner! I encouraged her to get to bed since tomorrow will be a full day. I am missing her but am also very excited to witness this adventure she is on :). Mizzou seems to have a great Greek system. Very impressed so far :)
|
My senior dd said she met so many great girls today. Momoftiger, glad you are encouraging your daughter to make her own choices. No better advice can be given. Also, hopefully she has some good snacks in her room! And she is right, MU does have an amazing greek system and they are all good friends with each other. Several of my daughters closest friends are in different houses.
Cheers to a great week! Please keep us posted. I'm loving hearing how the PNM's are feeling about the process this year. |

Oh boy. I sadly just looked at that horrible site Greek Rank for Mizzou. That was a huge mistake and devastating to see. There is a person writing absolutely horrible things on there about chapters. I wish somebody moderated that site better. It's pure group cyber bullying :(
|
I just checked it out. It is sad that the stress and competition of recruitment brings out hurtful comments. I think the PNM's can see through the hateful posts for what they are. It would be hard to read those kinds of hateful things about your own sisterhood, but it seems like the majority of people don't believe the hate that one person in particular is spewing. Hopefully the girls are too busy at their parties to have time to look at that ridiculous site. Hoping all goes well for your daughter with invites this morning!
|
It is awful. And sadly, some PNM's .... and even their mothers .... base opinions off what they read there. It's bad at a lot of schools, but it seems particularly nasty at Mizzou. If they read it last night they'd be pretty much hard pressed to come up with a "good" option for recruitment.
Anyone can post on greek rank, and I noticed they charge a fee to have comments removed within 24 hours. So what's the philosophy of the owner of the site? Would be far better if there was forum, where people had to register, to ask any genuine questions and come together as a Greek community. |
That website is strictly for bullying purposes. It sickens me that it even exists. Wish there was something we could do about it.
|
Please don't trust a single thing you see on that site. It is hateful and vile. Someone admitted a while back that her unaffiliated neighbor would post on there pretending to be a sorority member, just to amuse herself and trash talk. It is awful. I know the chapter I advise very well, and that site is nothing but hate and lies.
|
In happier news, I hope the PNMs get the invites they would like today, and the actives are excited to do house tours and show off their philanthropy. This is the first year that this day is held during round 2. R2 used to be skits, with philo/house tours R3. It will be interesting to see if this changes anything with PNM preferences!
Also, I cannot get over the weather. Last year was so hot and humid PNMs were miserable all week. Today the high is 67. The out-of-state PNMs are getting an interesting introduction to Missouri weather!! Here's hoping the rain holds off the rest of the week. (But especially on bid day!!!) |

That's why I like to come to this site--so many helpful people and good information. And of course, as people keep saying, in terms of "ranks" the only important thing is the way each girl feels when she visits the houses, which will usually shift upon multiple visits. Momoftiger I'm pulling for your daughter this morning, and for all the PNMs who are finding out where they will be returning today! Important to remember that the active members are excited and nervous as well--they find out which of the people they made a connection with will be returning. |
Thank you all for pulling for my daughter! She had a great return this morning. She will be attending a full 11 houses over the next two days. She is over the top excited with her invites back. So many great houses to see and get to know! :)
|
Great news for her!! (and you!)
Hope she has a great 2 days! So many great houses and great philanthropies they support! |

One thing to keep in mind is that your daughter and her friends may (or may not) experience more cuts on the next round, just because of the nature of RFM. You may want to prepare her for that. I knew some girls last year who had a full dance card second round and then went down to 5 or 6 (when they were hoping to fill their schedule with 8) for the following round and were really devastated-- when there's no need to be. It happens and isn't anything to be alarmed about. I don't want to be a damper at all and your daughter could very well have 8 parties in the next round; I just think it's easier to have the information and not be surprised/dismayed if the numbers are less later on. So excited for her and good luck to all the PNMs and houses in this round! |
Yes, I will be preparing her for just that tomorrow! Thanks for the heads up. I wouldn't know to do that without this website full of great advice :)
|
Same here.

She, too, is happy with her full 2nd round schedule with all of her favorites. FYI, I just checked the website, and it looks like there will be 7 parties in the 3rd round this year. |

Hang in there, all of you Moms! |
Awesome news! So glad things are going well for your daughters! Keep us posted pretty please!
|
Momoftiger and Beagled1 so happy for your daughters (and you!) that things went so well for them today. I hope they had great experiences learning about all the philanthropies. Hoping tomorrow goes just as well!
|
Thank you!
|
Feeling nervous as we await to hear about return invites to The Sisterhood Round Today! nervous...nervous...nervous They can attend up to 7 houses today. Everyone has said to be prepared for big cuts.....
|
Momoftiger and beagled1 I'm thinking of you this morning! i know how hard that waiting is. Good luck to your daughters! Let us know how it goes this morning. Keep breathing!
|
Thank you! She is going back to 7. It's going to be a long day for her. But, I hope the sisterhood round really helps her put the right things she is looking for into perspective. I think she has a good head on her shoulders and wants a house full of genuine sisterhood and passion for service. I think with the 7 she has on her list, she will find her home! I am happy for her and excited and nervous and everything in between!

Long time reader, first time poster. Like I did last year, I'm sure many moms are reading Greekchat to learn more about formal recruitment. I wasn't in a sorority, so finding this site helped me learn about RFM and recruitment in general.
Don't be too upset if your daughter experiences heavy cuts today. My daughter lost more than half the houses on her schedule between Rounds 2 & 3 (can't say that was the best day of her life, but it didn't matter in the end, as she received a bid from her day-one favorite!!!). I'm not a RFM expert, but I always assumed the heaviest cuts happen between rounds 2 & 3. It seems the chapters that aren't as strong in Round 1 become much stronger recruiting chapters after round 2. PNM's have all the same houses to choose from after round 1, but everyone's schedule is very different during Round 2. In the later rounds, mid- to weaker recruiting chapters aren't directly competing with the historically strong recruiting chapters for as many girls. Those strong recruiting chapters have to make a lot of cuts after round 1, and many girls don't have more than one or two (or any) of those chapters left on their invite lists. Girls are getting second looks at these other chapters, and they are are now becoming very popular, as they should be! That's why I like RFM. It's been said many times before, but ALL the chapters at Mizzou are fantastic, and girls have friends in all of the houses. No matter what chapters your daughter has left on her schedule today, one will soon be her new home! How exciting! |
Yay - good for her!! Sounds like she is having a successful recruitment and I don't doubt will continue to do so!

Update.

It's ok. My super special snowflake only had 4 this time last year ;-)
|
MIZparent, nice to "meet" you! I appreciate your feedback and everyone's on here! I am getting texts in between each house. She is also starting to reach out to her pi chi which is good. She can help her more than I can in terms of knowing more about the personalities of each house. All of the chapters seem strong in various ways. Her biggest fear is a repeat of high school where she was one of the few that didn't party regularly and one of the few that didn't belong to the country club that the "cool kids" did and ended feeling a bit on the outside. I believe she will find the right fit at Mizzou...but the mom in me worries because I can't do anything else but that and pray for her :)
|
Just popping in to say how much I love all the mutual support and good humor in this thread. :)
|
That's the great thing. Different personalities of chapters.....and different personalities within those. There are definitely girls who are not party girls. And I am sure lots that are not country club girls (I know mine isn't!!). She sounds well on her way to find a good fit.

I have been following this thread all week. I had a son graduate from Mizzou who was a Delt, and a daughter at Iowa who is a Theta. It looks like my daughter (#3 of 4) will be attending Mizzou next year and going through the recruitment process. So, I'm always happy to see the Mizzou threads full of great advice and encouragement for PNM moms. I know 2 girls from our high school going through this year. I heard from a mom today that one of them is having a good experience and got back her top choices back this morning. Haven't heard about the other one yet. Momoftiger and beagled1 - hang in there! We are all sending good thoughts your way.
|
Thanks all!
|
As an aside, they are doing a live stream of Tiger Walk. Bid day will have happened at this point, and hopefully the girls going through here will be wearing their bid day shirts as they pass through the columns formally entering what I think is the best university in the country!!
I don't think I watched it live last year, but it was available for replay and I found my daughter go through. Here is the link! http://livestream.com/mizzou/tigerwalk2015 |
Yay! Thanks for sharing NorthernMom!
|
Yay
So glad to hear things are continuing to go well for your girls!
Nice to see some other Mizzou moms joining the conversation here, too. Welcome. When my daughter was going through recruitment I came here frequently and read posts from other moms, but didn't post myself. It was so helpful to hear from moms who had been through the process already with their own daughters at Mizzou. Rush was SO different when I went through it (back in the dark ages), and, I'm sure there is a great deal that I have forgotten from back in the day. Excited to hear how they like the skits today. |
I think I cried watching it.
Mizzou is so rich in wonderful traditions. We looked at a lot of schools in theory. Far fewer in person. The thing that attracted me most (not that it was ultimately up to me, but she saw it too, obviously) was all Mizzou had to offer, not only in greek life, but in general. It's such a diverse and vibrant place. |
