I believe the Giants just got brought down by David. LOL The Royals played a hell of a game last night. On to 7! :-D
|
Last night KC played small ball; the Giants are doing what they do - giving us all heart attacks and fits. Tonight we'll see how it all ends. I'm just hoping the game ends after nine innings.
Play ball! |
If you wondered what that gust of air was, it was the entirety of the Midwest letting out a sigh of relief. All the talking heads said 7 games and I thought naaaah. The Royals are on such a hot streak they will either smash the Giants or the balloon will burst and we'll get spanked. Proving once again that my psychic abilities are not what they might be.
GAME 7!!!! |
Holy Cow, what a blow out!
Now we are down to a one (1) game World Series! When The Royals win, the noise from Kansas City will be heard all over!!:D |
Here's a little more back-patting. Yeah us!
http://www.kansascity.com/living/sta...le3223401.html With apologies to Tina Turner, we do need another hero. In a world increasingly obsessed with villains — the Islamic State, Boko Haram, the ebola virus — we desperately need some old-fashioned good guys to cheer for. To me, that explains everything about the Royals’ implausible, delightful Cinderella run in the postseason. Whether our hometown team takes the crown in the World Series, it has already been crowned “America’s team” by writers and commentators from sea to shining sea, and in some ways that is an even sweeter victory. The country’s infatuation with the Royals is easy to understand. They are everything we have come to not expect in championship-caliber athletes: humble, team-oriented and just plain nice. In a you-couldn’t-make-this-up development, we learned that Lorde’s hit song “Royals” was inspired by a photo of George Brett, who happened to play on the last Royals team to play in the World Series, back in 1985. The 1976 photo was not of Brett at bat, crushing a long ball the year he won the American League batting title, but of the cherubic young star smiling in a sea of outstretched fan hands clutching baseballs to be signed. The lyrics of the song uncannily mirror what America loves about our Royals, which is precisely that they don’t act like royalty. “And we’ll never be royals/It don’t run in our blood/ That kind of luxe just ain’t for us/we crave a different kind of buzz.” Indeed. The Royals get their buzz in wholesome ways that have charmed the rest of the country: Eric Hosmer inviting fans via Twitter to a bar after sweeping the Angels and picking up part of the tab, Salvador Perez posting G-rated locker-room videos of Lorenzo Cain, pitcher Scott Downs playing catch with Baltimore fans in Camden Yards, pitcher Brandon Finnegan buying tickets for a broke fan who tweeted him. It helps that Kansas City has the same squeaky-clean image as its ball club. Fans here celebrate by adopting adorable puppies. Our cops are so nice they sent barbecue to the Baltimore cops even though they won their division series bet with them. Our town was recently named the coolest city in America in a deeply unscientific survey by Huffington Post, and most telling were the decidedly unhip resasons: good food, affordability and nice people. President Barack Obama, in honoring Sporting Kansas City this month for its soccer achievements, gave our city a shout-out, noting the recent accomplishments of the Royals, the Chiefs and even the Kansas City roots of his new press secretary. “It’s a pretty good day to be from Kansas City. You guys are kind of cocky right now,” the president said. He meant it as a compliment, but the fact is, we are not cocky at all. And that’s why this fall the whole country has fallen for our boys in royal blue. Read more here: http://www.kansascity.com/living/sta...#storylink=cpy And one more, just for fun: https://scontent-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...7e&oe=54AAEFC4 Yes, that is Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas being silly on game day. |
^^^Thank you for sharing this. IMO we have two "implausible" teams (neither was supposed to make it this far), and it's going to be a GREAT night for baseball! Then comes the long, dark winter until the Boys of Summer show up for Spring Training and the earth will smile again.

Don't really care who wins, as baseball mostly bores me. Either way, it's done after tonight and the NFL and NBA take center stage. |
It's 2 wild card teams playing each other in the World Series. That is highly unlikely.
It's also 2 teams that are generally liked for being minimally douchy. Also pretty unlikely. |
Thanks, DS for explaining "implausible" to Tony (although I thought that "neither was supposed to make it this far" was pretty self-explanatory), who has stated that he is bored by baseball, so clearly he doesn't understand the skill, athleticism, and strategy involved in America's game. There is nothing boring about this game. Nothing whatsoever.
Football, on the other hand, is a game that causes permanent brain injury (CTE), along with a host of other physical impairments. Never ever liked it, never will. I do like high school and college basketball, but the pros bore me. |
Baseball is a thinking man's sport and while bulk CAN help (as proven in the juicing era) it is a game of finesse. The game really isn't about blasting every ball out of the park; it's about the dinker into deep right field (instead of left field)that allows the double to get home, or the shift that puts the defense all cattywampus but correctly guesses where the next hit ball will go.
It's also about guys who are of normal human height and structure with great bodies and uniforms that display that as opposed to being buried under VERY necessary padding, just to keep them alive. just sayin. |
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN OF CYBERLAND, PLEASE ALLOW ME TO INTRODUCE....

Did you hear me screaming with joy?
What a terrific series. Kudos to Kansas City. |

I agree! |
NP, will you be able to catch the parade? PKT, what about you? I'm not sure I know where StealthMode is, but if you're in the Bay Area, lucky you!
One of my friends who works in The City has an office along the parade route. They've done a potluck and watched the parade. MadBum - what a class act. |

I was at the airport while the game was on and several flights were delayed because passengers would not move from the TVs until it was over. The pilot couldn't just take off without 40-ish people. It was like a baseball sit-in. :p My hat's off to KC, they were very worthy adversaries. Congrats to them for making it so far, they really gave us a run for our money! |

Yes I will be going to the parade, this will be my 3rd. Great series, lots of ups and downs. KC played well! |
NP, have a fantastic time in NYC. This past week four friends went there for vacation. Apparently the Halloween decorations are fantastic. Makes me think about visiting there. Someday. When I've seen the entire rest of my bucket list. Including Antarctica. PKT, enjoy your third parade :D. Great story about delayed airline flights, StealthMode.
For our KC fans, who are disappointed, I say - be proud of your team, and there's always next year. Always. Seeing that stadium in a sea of blue was spectacular. I love baseball. It comes down to the bottom of the ninth - and you just don't know for sure how it's gonna end. Never ever have I left a game early. Ever. As a result I've seen some turnarounds and upsets that those in a hurry to get to their cars in the parking lots missed. It's not over until the fat lady sings. And the Boys of Summer will be starting up again in March. It's not that far away. Spring training is a big deal in Arizona. In the meantime, college ball starts in February. 14 weeks away. No problem. |
Congratulations, Giants. Third World Series win in 5 years. That's a nice dynasty.
|
Good game. Let's do it again next year. :D
|
Well the season is over. I am sure Dubisis was yelling as hard as I was!!
But got to give kudos to The Giants and Bum for pitching so great. As Sis said, lets do it again next year!!!!! |
The Royals are a classy team. Ditto for their fans. The fountains at Kauffmann Stadium went orange after the Giants victory. That was a huge gesture on the Royals' part. Didn't have to do that.
Again, kudos to the Royals team. |
Damn, it is pouring rain outside!! I love the Giants but I am not going to stand in heavy rain.

I just thought I'd share one last moment, per a Giants fan.

^^^ I visited Kansas City, spent about a week in the area, and can attest to the friendliness of the residents. And the tastiness of the BBQ.
My dumbass brother told me AFTER THE FACT that he had the opportunity to fly from CA to attend games 6 & 7 - free tickets were offered to him (he has friends in high places) - he had a place to stay, just had to pay for a plane ticket plus incidentals. He passed on the opportunity. I wanted to choke him. Why he didn't pass this on to me is the reason why I'm titling my autobiography "my brother was an only child". |
And you know you could have stayed with me!
|
Thank you!
PS I look really, really good in blue. Especially that gorgeous Royals Blue. |
Stealing this :)
