So happy for all of you. Your girls trusted the system and will find lifetime friends
Where ever they end up! Living this process from afar is so difficult for all of us. Believe it or not my daughter says being a Pi Chi has been more stressful than going through recruitment as so many girls are disappointed thinking they would get all houses back. There is so much conversation in the dorms about who "is the best" and who is the smartest etc. . My daughters heart breaks every time when a girl doesn't get back what she wanted but knows that each and every house is fantastic and that each sisterhood is forever. My gal is beautiful, smart, a leader, and has grown so much from this experience and I know your beautiful daughters will too. Good luck at 1 pm ( 2 my time) and I will be thinking of each and everyone of you!

Missouri Ivy 08-24-2014 01:02 PM

Hope everyone stays hydrated. It's another hot one today.

DaffyKD 08-24-2014 01:26 PM

Wouldn't it be fun if everyone's daughters ended up joining the same sorority!

Can't wait to hear what chapter they found to be their home.

Here's hoping all the girls that find homes are eagerly looking forward to becoming part of something that will be special for them. For those that don't, find different ways to become a part of an amazing college life at Mizzou.

So true mumom and NorthernMom. These girls are getting practice in thinking for themselves and whether to "go Greek" or not is just one of those decisions. Mizzou is a wonderful place with so many opportunities to connect and explore yourself and your life. My college roommate went through rush with me and chose to withdraw. It was the right decision for her. Whatever the outcome this week I hope that the connections all of the girls made with their Pi Chi groups, their recruitment counselors and in the houses will support them in getting acclimated to college life.

I don't think it's ethical to list it if you really don't see yourself there...and she felt that was a spot another girl could have/want....so she was prepared to not be greek if that was the case.

NorthernMom yes I agree it is a very strange feeling, not to be there. And I know she will text me or call or send a pic when it is a good time for her, but not sure when that will be as it looks like, from watching the videos, they all run right over to the groups of actives for their new sorority homes. I have cried a fair amount myself this week and I expect I will be in for the real shocker next week when she quits calling home every day. She has always been a very independent kid, yet we've been close and I'm used to hearing about the ups and downs of her days. Even though I know that her growing up and finding other places to process her daily life is natural and expected, I will miss talking to her so much. Oh, being a parent is hard sometimes!

I agree with SunflowerState--wish there was a live feed! I will be looking for youtube uploads this afternoon!

SunflowerState 08-24-2014 01:55 PM

So I'm sitting here, watching the clock. I'm out of the country right now. Calling is a very pricey option as is texting so I'm keeping my email open. This morning, I told my 82-year-old mom to skype me as soon as she heard, in case she hears before I do.

You all are my connection! Once you start hearing, I know there is a chance the email will come soon. I do not remember this tension when I went through but we got our bids privately in our dorm rooms.

mumom 08-24-2014 01:57 PM

Dying to hear!!!

SunflowerState 08-24-2014 02:00 PM

Ok, so it is 20 seconds after the hour where I am....why haven't we heard? I'm laughing at us, all sitting around our computers and phones, waiting. Don't those girls realize they are giving us (more) gray hair!

mom2many 08-24-2014 02:02 PM

Good luck ladies - I've been watching you all over the last few days - I'm so excited for all you....and your daughters... But yes, mostly for you!

wsucalsigmakapp 08-24-2014 02:02 PM

I have seen 2 different chapters report 130 new members!! Good luck!!

WalkintheWoods 08-24-2014 02:07 PM

I am losing my mind here and also laughing at myself. I know they're supposed to run right over to their group as soon as they open their envelope so probably they can't text right away. I don't remember being this nervous on my own bid day

NUalumMUmom 08-24-2014 02:38 PM

Finally word, my daughter is beyond thrilled to be a....

NUalumMUmom 08-24-2014 02:39 PM

Kappa Alpha Theta, and that's how she told me with 10 minutes between texts! She is so excited!

AZTheta 08-24-2014 02:42 PM

YES! Congratulations, and it sounds like Theta got another good one!

mumom 08-24-2014 02:42 PM

AGDAlum 08-24-2014 02:43 PM

Congratulations to NUalumMUmom's daughter!
Can't wait to hear from everyone else.

I always get nostalgic this time of year....Mizzou + recruitment + back to school. (44 years ago for me.)

SunflowerState 08-24-2014 02:49 PM

Just heard the news. She is a very happy member of Kappa Kappa Gamma!

NorthernMom 08-24-2014 02:51 PM

I have a very happy Zeta Tau Alpha!!!!

AZTheta 08-24-2014 02:51 PM

YAY For a new Kappa! This is wonderful news!!!!!

two down, two to go.

You can start collecting keys, and fleur de lis, and owls. I have enough kites to share with NUalumMUmom.

ETA: A ZETA? Oh boy, this is even more wonderful news!

mom2many 08-24-2014 02:52 PM

Congrats to both of you! And your daughters!

SunflowerState 08-24-2014 02:52 PM

I'm told bids were not handed out until 1:20 so there was a delay for some reason.

UWyoKD 08-24-2014 02:52 PM

Congratulations, NUNUalumMUmom, SunflowerState, and NorthernMom and to your daughters! I am so thrilled for all of you! Now you can relax and breathe. I hope that your daughters have wonderful times ahead. Hoping to hear good news very soon from the rest of you waiting anxiously at home.

Yay! Time to shop for strawberries and five pointed crowns!
Congrats to your daughter and welcome to Zeta Tau Alpha.

SunflowerState 08-24-2014 03:01 PM

I'll be interested how many pledged. There were 1978 registered. No clue how many started. Someone on this topic posted that 2 houses have 130 pledges. With numbers like that, they can't have lost too many to dropping out.

And congrats to my fellow moms/aunts! A Zeta, a Theta, a Kappa and....come on, WalkintheWoods' daughter! Don't keep us in suspense!

Sorry for the delay! I've been texting all my friends like crazy. I'm very happy to say that my daughter is a Kappa Alpha Theta! So how fun that two of our own are in the same house! I happened to be a Theta at Mizzou too so, that adds another element of specialness for me. I was of course wanting her to be happy and trusting that she had her own journey to make--and I'm delighted. Big congratulations to the new members/pledges and to their moms and aunts!! And to the wonderful chapter houses that will be welcoming these wonderful girls.

How fun!!! NUalumMUmom my daughter is a Theta too! I was a Theta at Mizzou as well.

Oh my gosh how funny that she texted you that with 10 minutes in between! You must have been so frustrated! Hilarious now that you know!

AZTheta 08-24-2014 03:19 PM

YES! Congratulations. And I'm going to PM you! I know a Mizzou Theta and you might have been there at the same time. Just let me remember her name first.

<>~~~x~~~x~~~ and pansies and twin stars, black and gold!

Great AZ Theta how fun! Let's fly a Theta kite, up to the highest height....

ladybug12 08-24-2014 03:30 PM

I have it from a reliable source that quota was 90 at Mizzouri.

130 sounds more like what I have heard from Arkansas....

33girl 08-24-2014 03:36 PM

Yay!!!

I think that the excitement yet coolness and graciousness which all the moms have shown on this thread goes a long way toward explaining why their daughters are sorority material. :)

NUalumMUmom 08-24-2014 03:58 PM

Congrats to all the girls and Moms! Maybe WalkintheWoods and I can connect on Family Weekend!

amIblue? 08-24-2014 04:05 PM

Hooray for a new Kappa, two new Thetas, and a Zeta!

ZTA1550 08-24-2014 04:10 PM

Congratulations to your girls, NUalumMUmom, SunflowerState, WalkintheWoods and NorthernMom! As classy as you ladies have been on this board all week long, I am certain those chapters got some classy young women who will be assets to their respective GLOs.

NorthernMom, since your daughter is now my sister, I can probably give you some gift ideas for birthdays, etc. I've had lots of practice shopping for turquoise blue and steel gray items, along with five-point crowns, strawberries and white violets! Sending some Zeta love in your daughter's direction!

Lovemybulldog 08-24-2014 04:42 PM

Congrats all you MIZZOU moms and daughters! Two Thetas, a Zeta and a Kappa! Sunflower state, my daughter is a Kappa too! They will be spending the day together! She will LOVE Kappa! I'm sure they will all love their sororities. Now you can all relax and get some sleep tonight...zZzZzZ

You are completely correct, my bad!! That is what I get for trying to watch my son play football and looking through Instagram! Thanks for the clarification!

Uoftstudent 08-24-2014 05:48 PM

Congrats to all you moms/aunts. :) It was great reading about your daughters/niece's successful recruitment stories! I hope I'm as lucky as them when I go through recruitment in the coming weeks.
